We are Living in MERCY-WORLD, at least for now.That is, we live in a mercy-world, yet we won’t always live in a mercy-world.Our charge today is to do the right thing while we live in mercy-world. What should I do with the worst person in my life? How hard was the temptation in the desert for Jesus? How do we know the "difficulty level" of those temptations?Well, angels show up.  That's how we know.  They show us to minister to Jesus's needs.  Wait, why does Jesus have NEEDS? Falling is a big deal. Falls can be life-changing, watershed moments.  Further, WHAT YOU FALL for, the reason you fall is A BIG DEAL.Fall-down-worship is a big deal too. We now interrupt this baptism for a party amongst the Trinity. They are approving, endorsing, agreeing, and delighting amongst each other. Jesus goes to particular trouble to meet people at "the baptism of repentance." It is not His place of repentance, but our place of repentance.Jesus comes to the “Baptism of repentance” not because He Himself Had sin  But because WE have sin         This is exactly the place of contact. It is as if Jesus is saying with this picture:  "I will meet people in repentance. Mary betrays Joseph during their betrothal period.  At least Joseph thinks Mary has betrayed him.Joseph has something to say about what happens next.  Shame and stoning are on the menu in response to this great injustice.  But Joseph decides NO. He saves Mary's life and the unborn Jesus' life, 4 months in the womb, by this resolving.We find Joseph is just and is unwilling to put Mary to shame. He saves the life of Mary. The beatitudes, in a sense, start with a genealogy. For a long time, God has seen the rebellion of humans, even the rebellion of His chosen people. It is all recounted, in a sense, by the recalling in a genealogy. It isn't a pretty picture.  We end with our great need.
