Politics and Conflict: Post-Election Discussion
Feeling exhausted by the divisiveness and toxicity of politics? The recent election was yet another example of how political battles can derail communities from working together toward shared goals. When two sides become more focused on winning than listening, it reflects a deeper issue that goes beyond government. This ‘us vs. them’ mentality doesn’t just stay confined to Capitol Hill—it seeps into our workplaces, our families, and even our friendships. When politicians resort to personal attacks to secure a win, it’s a reflection of how we often handle conflict in our own lives. Think about it—how often do we let our emotions take over, preventing us from having a meaningful conversation with a colleague or loved one simply because we feel the need to be right? It’s a pattern that keeps us stuck, holding us back from true progress. In my latest episode, I explore how emotions can take the driver’s seat, stopping us from having the open, honest conversations we need. I challenge you to shift your mindset: approach differences with curiosity instead of judgment, and see conflict as a chance for growth—not just individually, but collectively. True progress happens when we’re willing to listen, respect diverse perspectives, and work toward common ground, even when it’s difficult. If you're craving more harmony and deeper connections, whether at work, at home, or in your community, this episode is for you. Let’s move beyond division together. STEP 5 to Collaborative Conflict: EXPANSION
In this episode, I dive deep into the final step of the PAUSE framework - "E" for EXPANSION. Conflict can be either destructive or constructive, and the key is to approach it with the mindset of helping everyone expand and grow, not just yourself. Conflict is inevitable, but it doesn't have to be hard or negative - it can be an opportunity to create something new and exciting when approached the right way. If you're tired of conflict bringing you down, and want to learn how to turn it into a positive, growth-oriented experience, you won't want to miss this episode. Tune in to discover the power of the PAUSE framework and how it can transform the way you handle differences. It just might change the way you approach conflict. #conflictresolution #conflictmanagement #conflictculture #successmethod #authenticleadershipacademy #successmethod #corporateamerica #expansion #everyonewins

STEP 4 to Create Collaborative Conflict: SPEAK
In this episode, I discuss the 4th step of my 'PAUSE' technique - "S" for SPEAK. Despite popular belief, you don't always need to say the things...I believe in the importance of carefully considering what you say, why you're saying it, and whether it's necessary to say it at all. I also share examples of how speaking reactively can escalate conflicts, versus speaking with the intention of de-escalating and finding a collaborative solution. Productive conversations require reflection and choice. #selectiveconversations #collaboration #collaborativeconflict #generativeconflict #examples #escalation #conflictmanagement #conflictresolution #conflictsuccess #successmethod #successful #corporateamerica #personalskills #authenticleadershipacademy

Welcome back to *Being Unapologetically Authentic*! In this episode, we dive into the third step of my five-step framework for transforming destructive conflict into productive conflict: Understanding. We’ve already covered Pause and Acceptance, and now it’s time to explore how understanding the diverse perspectives of others can unlock solutions that truly benefit everyone. By embracing the differences in thought and experience, especially in today’s diverse workforce, we can create stronger teams, innovative solutions, and lasting relationships. Remember, understanding is the bridge that turns conflict into opportunity. Share your thoughts—how do you approach understanding in your conflicts? Let’s continue this conversation together! #beingunapologeticallyauthentic #newepisode #JeanTien #ConflictResolution #Leadership #DiversityOfThought #Understanding #WorkplaceHarmony #UnapologeticallyAuthentic #Podcast #authenticleadershipacademy

Ever feel intimidated at your doctor's office? It can be scary to walk into your doctor's office. We see them as an expert and the key to our health. This is why it's so important to have open and honest conversations with your doctors. This is why I'm so excited to have Brooke Hoover on my show. Through her own experience of misdiagnoses, Brooke believes that patients should take an active role in their healthcare by asking questions, taking notes, and advocating for themselves. Let’s Talk About EXPECTATIONS!
Have you ever wondered how your expectations are ruining your life? In this episode, I explore how my expectations have been feeding my need to control my life. Whether it's in my career, family life, or friendships - my expectations have led me to experience so much personal conflict. Internal and external. The inspiration for this episode came to me recently from chatting with friends. One friend can't figure out what to do because her husband expects her to help him run his business, while another friend expects people to think like her. Both friends are constantly angry and disappointed that people seem to fail them. Ever have one of those days? I have!!! So why do we do this to ourselves? Why do we expect others to be just like us? Or expect our husbands to be our knights in shining armor when he doesn't even own a metal suit? Debunking the Myths of Success: Keep Your Head Down and Work Hard
"Keep your head down and Work Hard." We've all heard this advice at some point in our lives. It suggests that to succeed; we should focus solely on our work, avoid distractions and keep a low profile. Undoubtedly, there is some truth to it. Diligence and dedication are essential for achieving our goals. You have to know when to look up, however, to truly excel and reach new heights. Keeping your head down may shield you from distractions in the short term, allowing you to accomplish tasks efficiently. Problem is that it also narrows your perspective and limits your awareness of the broader opportunities and possibilities that surround you. By solely fixating on the task at hand, you may miss out on innovative ideas, valuable connections, and unforeseen avenues for growth. To become even more successful, you must lift your gaze and look up. This broader perspective can spark creativity, inspire fresh ideas, and open doors to unexplored opportunities. Looking up also fosters a growth mindset. When do you look down vs up? Tune in to find out! Debunking the Myths of Success: Success is an Outside Job
I grew up thinking that success was only possible when someone else decided it was time for me to succeed. For example, you work hard for that promotion and every year, you hope and pray that your hard work gets noticed by your manager or someone senior within the firm willing to champion your career in the organization. Sound familiar? That's waiting for someone else to recognize your success before you allow yourself to do so...and this brings the question of which came first? Evidence of your success or your beliefs around your success? I believe it's the latter. When you believe in your success, you can easily persuade others. Ever heard of the cliche, "It's not what you say; it's how you say it?" It's the ENERGY behind how you say it. The more confident you sound, the less likely others will question you. The easier it is for others to believe in what you're saying too. Want to learn how to find success within yourself? Check out my book, Your S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Blueprint. Does Education Really Equate to Success?
Growing up, education was always seen as the path to success. It's how my parents grew up and it's what they instilled in us. This was a shared experience with many, if not most, of my Asian friends. Our parents pushed us to excel in school because they grew up under a system where better grades meant better opportunities upon graduation. As John Spinks, senior adviser to the vice chancellor at the University of Hong Kong, said "Education is the driver of social mobility". As I learn more about the roots of education in the United States; however, I start to wonder is education really the key to success? Join me in this episode as I share about: 1. the objective of education in the U.S.; 2. is our cultural beliefs around education hurting us or helping us when it comes to Corporate America; and 3. some thoughts on when it's time to step outside of our cultural comfort zone, especially as Asian-American parents raising children in the U.S. Have you subscribed to my YouTube channel yet? While there may be plenty of junior level employees who are of Asian descent, the number seems to drop once you cross the threshold into senior management. Asians can't seem to advance to senior management roles within Corporate America. Is this due to the unconscious biases or perhaps even conscious prejudices against Asians? Or is this a symptom of cultural differences that lead to inconsistent management styles? In this episode of Being Unapologetically Authentic, I share some of my personal observations and career strategies that can help bridge the gap so that more Asians can advance in Corporate America. S2 Ep2 Breaking Cultural Norms
Being Unapologetically Authentic, S2 Ep 2 How can you be authentic to you if you're conditioned to be someone else? Great question...yet, one that we rarely ask ourselves. We've been rewarded by everyone around us to follow the norm; to fit into the norm. Those who can't fit into the norm are labeled as outcasts or as rebels, yet it's the same rebels who change the course of the human species. Problem with following the norm is that there are many of you who were never meant to fit in with the masses. When you don't allow yourself to be authentic to your truest form, you create the perfect pathway for dis-ease and un-wellbeing. Have questions? S1 Ep 10: Money and Success
In this episode of Being Unapologetically Authentic, I look at society's inclination to measure success through monetary gains. Money is so ingrained in our society as a measurement of success. It's no wonder that financial gains are the predominant measurement of one's ability to "do well" in life. What if, however, money was just a tool for expansion? What if it was never meant to be used the way it is today, and would it still have so much meaning in our lives if money was unlimited? If you have ever measured your success by the amount of money you earn? If so, then I invite you to listen to this episode and see if money is still an authentic measurement of YOUR success.

S1 Ep 11: Lessons from a Working Mom on Parenting with Authenticity
In this episode of Being Unapologetically Authentic podcast, host, Jean Tien, shares her experiences on raising children authentically. As a parent, navigating the world of authenticity can be tricky. We are the product of our parents, friends, culture, society, and everything around us. From the day we enter this world, survival depended on our ability to conform to the expectations placed on us. When we conform, we're obedient and rewarded. When we don't conform, however, we run the chance of being disregarded and disciplined. As a conscious parent focused on raising authentic, conscious children, Jean shares: her frustrations with the education system; the questions she's had to ask of herself in order to define her authenticity as a parent; the conversations she and her husband have had in order to find the best way to support their children; and her experience in challenging the status quo. Supporting children in a "different" way can be challenging but it is so rewarding when the risk pays big reward. Tune in to learn more about her story, and for more information about Jean and the work she does, you can check out her website at https://jeantien.com.
