Now working at Lower House Equine Clinic, Maddy Baly graduated from Nottingham Vet School in 2025 and had already scoped out a potential career path during her time on EMS. Kate wasn't sure she wanted to be a vet and without the required subjects for traditional course entry, she embarked on Nottingham's 'prelim' course. She took her time exploring options with mixed practice, first opinion equine, before undertaking an internship. Following this she used her 'veterinary passport' to make the most of seeing the worlds and has settled for an antipodean life as a repro vet... for now! Imogen is a first opinion practitioner at Bell Equine, in Kent. Talking about our feelings may still seem a bit fluffy to many of us in the equine veterinary profession but did you know it can improve patient safety as well as team cohesion and retention? Sarah Emptage from Bell Equine shares how they conduct "wellbeing rounds", what these are and how to set them up as well as the beneficial effects that running them has had on the team. With a growing evidence base in the medical profession to support these sorts of discussions listen in to hear how you can implement them within your practice.

Following on from the publication of BEVA's Schedule 3 guidelines in 2023, Marie and the BEVA Nurse Committee have been working hard with Jim Green at BARTA to understand the role of the equine RVN in emergency rescue situations. The new guidelines being published jointly by BEVA and BARTA aim to highlight the role of the RVN during these high stress and challenging situations to further improve animal welfare, client communication and team work with other professionals. It is hoped that these guidelines will help to empower RVNs to utilise their skills and develop new and rewarding roles within the equine veterinary profession. Check out the guidance here.
