Do I really need a will? A hard but important chat. Law for mummies not dummies, with - Tess, wills and estate lawyer

Have you written a Will? This episode has been *highly* requested by Bumpies so we spoke to Tessa from Lyden Lane to discuss estate planning and future-proofing for our children after we are gone. Yes, it feels confronting but we know we need to adult-up and get it done for the benefit of our family. We discuss… What actually is a Will?  What happens if you pass away without one? And is it just needed when one parent dies or both!? Does debt get passed down if it’s not paid off? Boomer wealth, granny flats, intergenerational living and the Bank of Mum and Dad Divorce - does it impact a Will? The toughest part - who will care for your kids!? We were both in SHOCK with just how complex this decision is legally The up front cost of estate planning How superannuation might be an asset you hadn’t considered Tessa shares the voice note she’s leaving behind for her kids - we were not okay! So, where do we begin if we want to set up an estate plan after today?  If you’d like to, find out more from Tessa at Lyden Lane’s website here. Whilst there's been so much important information shared in this episode, it is shared as general information for education purposes only. Bumpie group chat: are we overdoing kids’ birthday parties? Some positive “just you waits” and AITA for wanting to change my kids' friends?

Bumpies, today really is a mixed bag, so strap in for this rollercoaster. We discuss everything from vaping to religion, if we actually need yearly birthday parties for kids and the most beautiful ‘just you wait’ moments that had us tearing up. We dive into… It’s Week 2 of Harry being away - how is Jayde going this week with solo parenting? The mental load around extra-curricular activities and why it can be anxiety inducing The classic trap of who has it harder and why we probably need to take that straight to couple’s counselling 😅 Possibly controversial, but should we veto yearly birthday parties for kids…? Sophie posted a positive ‘just you wait’ moment on Instagram and the comment section definitely passed the vibe check!  We have a new AITA and it’s a Bumpie wondering if it’s okay to try and sway her teenager’s friendships - is it for the good of your child or does it become dangerous territory? What do you do when your child wants black and white answers around family values? REPLAY: Anyone else feeling overwhelmed by motherhood? Being compassionate with ourselves - with Belinda Haan

This week we are replaying this episode which contains honest, personal discussions about difficult emotions such as rage and anger. Motherhood provides plenty of experiences of joy, love and gratitude but it also contains frustration, exhaustion, anger and overwhelm among many other emotional states.  When we know that difficult emotions are an inherent part of motherhood, and being human, it can help us feel less alone or prevent us from experiencing shame. Emotions are an automatic response to internal or external stimuli. We don’t get to choose what arises but we can learn to work with what comes up and how to meet our needs to feel okay.  There were a few ideas shared on how to work with difficult emotions on this episode and there are plenty more in The Emotional Support for Mothers toolkit. However, we all know that the reality is that it can be hard to experience and make sense of these emotions on our own.  If you are experiencing persistent painful feelings you need and deserve love, care and support. Bumpie Group Chat (unfiltered) - Guess who’s back together?!

This week Soph pulls off the ultimate surprise - joining Jayde in person for the first time in 12 months to record the last episode of the year!  Back in the same room, we reflect on what it’s been like recording long-distance, what it's like for Soph being back in her hometown and just how different the energy feels when they’re face to face again.  We also dive into the next stages of parenthood, with Jayde reflecting on the reality of heading into parenting a high schooler and how quickly this chapter has arrived. Together, they talk about evolving identities as mums, and why the 'just you wait' conversation surrounding parenting teenage girls isn't always accurate... Bumpie Group Chat (unfiltered) - To post or not to post your kids online? Do butterflies really only live 24hrs and tips on how NOT to record a podcast.

Recording this episode was truly a comedy of errors in tech land - think mics dropping out, Wi-Fi giving up on life, and Jayde forgetting how headphones work. But! Amongst the chaos, we dive into a super honest chat about something many parents grapple with: sharing their kids online. Sophie opens up about why she’s stepped back from posting images of her little ones, from privacy worries to the weirdness of strangers recognising them. Jayde shares the flip side: why she still feels comfortable posting her kids and how she navigates it in a way that feels safe and right for her family. No judgement, no rules - just two friends unpacking a very modern parenting dilemma. And because it wouldn’t be a  without a little chaos… we also get into the intrusive repeative thoughts. From everyday “what ifs” to Jayde’s completely unhinged scenario involving a butterfly and inhaling an entire cake... yep, you read that right!
