Born in 1925 in Ensley, Alabama, Foster overcame immense educational barriers in the segregated South to become the first African American to graduate from Gallaudet University.   Driven by a passion for the forgotten, Foster dedicated his life to establishing schools for the deaf across the African continent. When he first arrived in Africa in 1957, there were only 12 schools for the deaf on the entire continent; through his tireless obedience, he and his wife, Berta, eventually opened schools in different nations.   Join us as we reflect on Foster’s enduring legacy and explore what it means to say "yes" to God's calling, even when conditions are far from perfect. He discussed how his foster father, a spiritual son of his biological father, played a pivotal role in his life and faith, leading to his name change from Tim Jackery to Nathan, which means "gift" in Hebrew. Our blaze team (Ps Richard, Kékéli, Priest, Daniel, Janell, and Cyrena) reflect on their experience in Uganda from 11-19th of January 2025. They had the incredible opportunity to team, ignite, transform, catalyze, and amplify 250 students from 17 different church in partnership with Africa Youth Life Foundation. During this time they had three separate outreaches into the surrounding community and saw over 100 individuals come to Christ.

Pastor Richard Sempala’s journey from the streets of Kampala, Uganda, to a life of purpose is a testament to redemption and hope. Rescued as a child by Rev. Kefa Ssempangi, he was given shelter, education, and, most importantly, a personal relationship with God. This experience ignited his passion to rescue abandoned babies, orphans, and street children—offering them the same hope that saved his life. Since 2002, Richard has dedicated his life to empowering marginalized youth through the Africa Life Youth Foundation. His mission is clear: to restore dignity, provide opportunity, and raise up the next generation of leaders in Christ.
