Blackeout Radio

(Hit me up at [email protected]. We also have a fb fan page, just search "Blackeout Radio.")This is Blackeout Radio hosted by the one and only Takeo (Coffee) Blacke. They call me Coffee cuz I wake up the mind, and that's what this show gonna do. Don't be mistaken, I can kick out the old school jams from A Tribe Called Quest, Kool and the Gang, Parliament, Stevie Wonder, and Rakim. I can also take it to the new school with Q-Tip, Lyrics Born, Lupe Fiasco, Common, and Jay-Z. But what I really came to do is to provoke the mind and have you see the world in ways you've never seen it before. The thoughts I'm gonna implant in your head will enter like a needle and spread like an oak tree. Before you know it, you'll see the world through a new pair of eyes thanks to the Coffeeman.Get ready, cuz Blackeout Radio is up and running.

The Voices of R&B: Past, Present, and Future

It's ladies night tonight at 17th and Broadway, as tonight's show is dominated by some of the greatest voices ever to hit R&B. Yes, we have legends like Anita Baker and Whitney Houston. Yes, we have the stars of today like Mary J. and Mariah Carey. But truthfully, this show is all about the future. In fact, one of the brightest young voices in R&B, Joyo Velarde, drops by the studio in this special edition of Blackeout Radio. It's a night of Blacke Power hosted by none other than San Leandro's Finest, Takeo Blacke.

    Chitown vs. Motown

Recorded 3/17/2010. East Coast, West Coast, Down South, blah blah blah. Real music comes from the Upeer Midwest. Think about it: without Motown Records, without Curtis ayfield, and without Rck James, this world would be a different place. So the question is, what city knows how to rock the best? Well, there's only one way to find out. Tonight, live from our studios at 17th and Broadway, we're having a batttle between the Motor City and the Windy City. Fi9rst up: Herbie Hancock vs. Stevie Wonder! Diana Ross vs. Minnie Riperton will come later, and our closing act will be Dilla vs. Kanye. (We already know who's gonna win that one.) Stay tuned y'all, cuz I have a suprise announcement for you Blackeheads in this show. Stay tuned for thwe next rolling Blackeout.

The Samples Special (audio on this version)

It's time for an inside look at my favorite thing: sampling. With help from Gang Starr, the Pharcyde, and even Daft Punk, I'm taking you on a journey into the lost art of flipping an old record and making it relevant again (or for the first time, in some of these cases.) George Benson, Edwin Birdsong, Miles Davis, Parliament: these are just some of the artists featured on today's show who have been granted a second life thanks to sampling. Stay tuned, y'all; show 5 is comin' at 'cha.

Blackeout is Back? How Bizarre... (audio is on this version)

I'm back, and I'm bringing you on a trip to the bizarre. In memoriam of OMC lead singer Pauly Fuemana and his trademark hit, every song today has some bizarre quality. From the Wu-Tang Clan and the simply crazy ODB, to the off-the-wall rhythms of Outkast, to some completely crazy samples. In addition to the Wu, OutKast, and OMC, we have a sampling surprise and a tribute to the late Teddy Pendergrass. Welcome back to the Blackeout, everyone. This rolling Blackeout can't be stopped.

Blackeout Rebellion: The Message of Hip Hop

Do not change your website: that first minute is part of the show. In commemoration of the 45th anniversary of the Berkeley Free Speech Movement, I've dedicated an entire half-hour to hip-hop with a message. Tonight a slew of revolutionary rappers-Public Enemy, N.W.A, Tupac, and Digable Planets-headline the show, while a guest from Youth Radio drops by and gives his two cents on the state of hip-hop. A special dedication goes out to my English teacher for actually letting me write a whole paper about this subject...I swear man, you're the best there is. Unfortunately, this will be the last Blackeout Show for a while, as I have many other endeavors to focus on. Don't think I forgot about cha though...my mind is open, my cell is on, and I'm ready to come back whenever you want me to come back. The Blackeout will live on...trust me. The Complete Playlist: Speech by Mario Savio Fight The Power (Public Enemy) Holla If You Hear Me (Tupac) 100 Miles and Runnin' (NWA) La Femme Fetal (Digable Planets)

    Going In Circles

It's true, music goes in cycles. Music today features elements from as far back from John Coltrane and from as recent as Digable Planets. Me and my assistant Ser explore the concept of recycling music with beats created by the Coffeeman himself as a background. In addition, I talk about my favorite movie and about the Bay Bridge. This show features tracks from Steel Pulse, Usher, Digable Planets, and Con Funk Shun. Listen and enjoy, cuz Blackeout Radio will stay strong. The Complete Playlist: Chase Me (Con Funk Shun) Miles Mode (John Coltrane) Jimmi Diggin Cats (Digable Planets) I Swear I'm In Love (Usher) Ku Klux Klan (Steel Pulse)

    The Blackeout Begins

10/15/09: Day one of Blackeout Radio. The maiden voyage of this journey through time and reason begins with a diamond in the rough from super group Blackstar. Blackeout 1 also features tracks from Lupe Fiasco, A Tribe Called Quest, and the Godfather, James Brown. Also, stay tuned as I pay tribute to the Black Panthers and to the earthquake felt around the Bay back in '89. This has been a personal message from your man Takeo Blacke to you, the listener. Enjoy the sensations crawlin' through your ears (trust me, they're good things) and keep tunin in to Blackeout Radio. The Blackeout has begun. The Complete Playlist: Thieves In The Night (Blackstar) Get Up, Get Into It, Get Involved (James Brown) Paris Tokyo (Lupe Fiasco) Butter (A Tribe Called Quest)
