Carter retired from teaching and was appointed Research Professor of Theology at Tyndale University in Toronto, Ontario at the end of 2020. He continues as Theologian in Residence at Westney Heights Baptist Church in Ajax, Ontario, where he has served since 2008. He is an ordained minister in the Fellowship of Evangelical Baptist Churches of Canada. He is married to Bonnie and they have three adult children and five grandchildren. To relax he likes gardening, camping, hiking, canoeing and reading historical novels.Dr. Carter’s main academic interests lie at the intersection of the interpretation of Scripture, the doctrine of God and the metaphysical doctrines we derive from our doctrine of God and bring to the interpretation of Scripture. A second area of interest is the theology of culture and, in particular, the meaning of Western modernity.He is in the process of publishing the Great Tradition trilogy with Baker Academic. Interpreting Scripture with the Great Tradition: Recovering the Genius of Premodern Exegesis was published in April 2018. Contemplating God with the Great Tradition: Recovering Trinitarian Classical Theism comes out on April 20, 2021. The third volume will be Doing Philosophy with the Great Tradition: Recovering the Metaphysics of Nicaea (tentative title, anticipated publication in 2023). He is working on an Introduction to Christian Theology in the Great Tradition, which will be published by Baker Academic in 2024. He is also in the process of writing a multi-volume, theological commentary on Isaiah for the International Theological Commentary series published by T. & T. Clark. It is intended to be the first postcritical commentary on Isaiah and will be published, Lord willing, in 2025 and 2026.He is also writing several smaller books and articles along the way, including a chapter in a Five Views of Christ in the Old Testament book for Zondervan and a short introduction to Divine Providence.
