03.01.2016 - 10 AM --------------------------------- 2 Timothy 3:16-17 WHY THE BIBLE 1.) Because it is written by God the Bible is the only book that claims to be the actual words of God. (out of any religion) The Bible was written over a 1600 year period by approximately 40 men. The time of the writing was from 1500 BC to AD 100. There were several secular historians who wrote about the events of the New Testament at the same time the Bible was being written. Josephus is the most well-known of them. He was a Jewish historian. Tacitus was a Roman historian who would have no benefit from not telling the truth. Both these men, as well as others, can be used to back up the historical accuracy of the Bible. 2.) Because it guides me in every area of my life Psalm 119:105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. “The Bible was not given for our information but for our transformation.” — D.L. Moody 3.) Because it is full of freeing truth to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It straightens us out and teaches us to do what is right. John 8:32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” Quote: Jesus proclaimed unmistakably that Gods law is so perfect and absolute that no one can achieve righteousness. Yet Gods grace is so great that we do not have to.
