Books at Bedtime By Calming Anxiety - How the Leopard Got His Spots by Rudyard Kipling

How the Leopard Got His Spots by Rudyard Kipling — A Calming Bedtime Story for Sleep, Insomnia & Deep Relaxation | Books at Bedtime A soothing bedtime story to help you fall asleep — read slowly and softly by Martin, for anyone lying awake and wanting something gentle to drift off to. Tonight's reading is How the Leopard Got His Spots, one of Rudyard Kipling's much-loved Just So Stories, first published in 1902 and long out of copyright. It's a warm, playful tale of the bare, sunlit High Veldt, of a giraffe and a zebra who slip away into a shadowy forest, of Baviaan the wise baboon and his riddling advice, and of how a leopard and his hunting companion finally learn to change. Kipling wrote these stories to be spoken aloud to a child at bedtime — the rolling, repeating rhythm and the familiar refrain of "best beloved" are exactly what makes them settle a restless mind. There is nothing to follow here and nothing to do. No breathing exercise, no affirmations. Just a voice in the dark and a story that goes somewhere far away from your own day. If you fall asleep long before the leopard ever finds his spots, the story has done its job. This is Books at Bedtime, part of Coffee Break for the Soul from the Calming Anxiety podcast — a growing library of classic sleep stories, relaxing audiobooks and public-domain readings for insomnia, night-time anxiety and deep relaxation. Hosted by clinical hypnotherapist and former paramedic Martin Hewlett. Every Books at Bedtime story is also inside Anchored, our iOS app — offline-ready, with a built-in nightlight for the small hours, so there is always something waiting for you at three in the morning. Sleep well, my friend, and in your dreams, be kind.  👉 Click to subscribe and unlock ad-free episodes now! Support the Show: Ad-Free Listening: Enjoy Calming Anxiety without ads at https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/calming-anxiety--4110266/support Buy Me a Coffee: Support hosting costs at https://www.buymeacoffee.com/calminganxiety Newsletter: Subscribe on Substack at https://calminganxietypodcast.substack.com/?r=6zm0sc&utm_campaign=pub-share-checklist Rate & Review: Leave a 5-star review on Spotify or Apple Podcasts to help us reach more listeners! YouTube: Watch all episodes at https://www.youtube.com/c/calminganxiety?sub_confirmation=1 Social Media Support: For younger listeners struggling with social media stress, visit https://www.icanhelp.net/ Music: All music by Chris CollinsReady for More Calm?Thank you for listening to the Calming Anxiety Podcast, featuring guided meditation, mindfulness, and sleep hypnosis sessions with Martin Hewlett. Books at Bedtime By Calming Anxiety - The Beginning of The Armadillos by Rudyard Kipling

The Beginning of the Armadillos by Rudyard Kipling — A Calming Bedtime Story for Sleep, Insomnia & Deep Relaxation | Books at Bedtime Let sleep come gently tonight with a soothing bedtime story, read slowly and softly to quiet a busy mind. This is "The Beginning of the Armadillos" by Rudyard Kipling, one of his beloved Just So Stories — a warm, whimsical tale from the high and far-off times, told for rest rather than excitement. On the banks of the turbid Amazon, a stickly-prickly hedgehog and a slow-solid tortoise outwit a puzzled Painted Jaguar, and in doing so quietly become something entirely new. The looping, sing-song rhythm and the gentle "O Best Beloved" refrain make it perfect for drifting off — there is nothing to solve and nowhere to be, only a familiar voice and an unhurried story carrying you toward sleep. This is part of Books at Bedtime from Calming Anxiety — a growing library of classic public-domain stories and Coffee Break for the Soul readings, hosted by clinical hypnotherapist and former paramedic Martin Hewlett. Ideal for insomnia, bedtime wind-down, NSDR (non-sleep deep rest), anxiety relief and relaxation, and available any time inside the Anchored app. So settle in, let your eyes close, and don't worry about following every word. If you fall asleep before the armadillos are made, that is exactly the point. …be kind, and sleep well. Why Do I Feel Sick Every Time I Check My Bank Balance.alp

Do you feel a wave of nausea or physical sickness the exact moment you open your banking app? Financial dread triggers the exact same fight-or-flight nervous system response as physical danger. In this episode, Martin—clinical hypnotherapist and former frontline paramedic—teaches you how to stop a money anxiety spiral in less than ten minutes. Using a powerful 3-2-5 breathing technique and an emergency medical triage framework , you will learn how to visually sort your bills and financial worries into red, yellow, and green tags so your nervous system can finally rest. Stop letting a number on a screen dictate your sense of safety. Listen in to quiet the scarcity mindset, ground your body, and take control of your financial peace of mind. ⏱️ Time Chapters00:00 – Why Does Your Bank Balance Cause Physical Nausea? 00:53 – Grounding Your Nervous System: The 3-2-5 Breathing Technique 02:22 – Paramedic Triage: Sorting Real Emergencies From Financial Dread 03:40 – Guided Mindset Affirmations for Scarcity and Worth 05:06 – 3 Daily Caring Tips to Prevent the Financial Spiral 07:18 – A Personal Message from Martin & Staying Kind to Yourself 🧘 Guided AffirmationsRepetition is how we rewire the subconscious mind. Sit comfortably, breathe deeply , and let these truths settle into your body: “My bank balance is a number, not a measure of my worth.” “Not every bill is an emergency, even when my body insists it is.” “I am allowed to handle one thing at a time in the right order.” “Scarcity is a feeling passing through me, not a fact about my future.” “I can feel afraid about money and still be safe in this exact moment.” 💡 3 Daily Caring TipsImplement these three simple rules into your morning routine to transform how you interact with your finances: The Triage Pause: Spend 60 seconds every morning labeling your money worries. Tag them Red (due today), Yellow (due this week), or Green (loud but not urgent). Only act on the red items today. The Single Tab Rule: Never look at multiple accounts at once. Your nervous system can only process one thing safely; comparing five tabs at once triggers an instant anxiety spiral. The Borrowed Worry Check: When dread hits, ask if the bill is due right now or if you are borrowing stress from next month. If it's the future, hand it back. ❤️ Caring CTA & Community SupportThis podcast is completely independent—there is no massive marketing team or corporate budget behind it. Books at Bedtime By Calming Anxiety - The Cat That Walked By Himself by Rudyard Kipling

Whether you keep it for bedtime, a quiet coffee-break moment for the soul, or simply a peaceful audiobook to relax to, this Books at Bedtime reading is here whenever you need to slow down and rest. Why Is My Cortisol So High Right Now A 10-Minute Reset.alp

Why is my cortisol so high right now? Why does my body feel wired, jittery, and constantly buzzing on a chemical surge I didn't ask for, even when absolutely nothing is wrong? If you are asking yourself these questions today, this 10-minute guided meditation for anxiety relief is here to give you real, practical answers. In this powerful episode of Calming Anxiety, clinical hypnotherapist and former frontline paramedic Martin Hewlett demystifies adrenaline rushes and nervous system hyperarousal. Drawing from decades of managing acute stress responses in the back of an ambulance, Martin skips the superficial, fake reassurance. Instead, he explains the mechanical science of stress hormones and guides you through an effective vagus nerve stimulation breathing exercise to naturally lower morning cortisol spikes and bring your body back to a state of calm.Through an insightful medical drip line visualization, positive affirmations for anxiety, and realistic stress-management tips, you will learn how to transition from fight-or-flight to rest-and-digest. Discover how to regulate an overactive nervous system, manage daily stress curves, and regain complete emotional control over your mind and body.⏱️ Episode Time Chapters00:00 – Understanding High Cortisol: Why Does My Body Feel Wired?00:26 – Introduction: Martin Hewlett on Real Adrenaline & Cortisol Surges01:14 – The 4-2-6 Somatic Breathing Pattern for Nervous System Regulation03:14 – The Drip Line Visualization: Turning Down the Stress Chemical Rate05:34 – Cortisol Relief Affirmations: Changing Your Internal Narrative07:51 – The 3 Daily Caring Tips for Managing Stress Hormones09:20 – Reorienting to Safety & Awakening Your Senses09:40 – App Launch Details & A Heartfelt Invitation to Share the Calm🌿 Cortisol Relief AffirmationsVisualize these words in your mind's eye to anchor your nervous system:"My cortisol is chemistry, passing through me, not a verdict on my safety.""I do not have to outrun this feeling. I only have to let it slow down.""My body is clearing what it no longer needs, breath by breath.""I can feel wired and still be safe, all at the same time.""This high alert will pass and I am the one who decides how slowly."💡 3 Daily Caring Tips for a Happier LifeThe 90-Second Rule: When a massive cortisol surge hits, remember that the urgency it creates is purely chemical, not actual information. Most adrenaline loops will naturally begin to clear within 90 seconds if you don't feed them. Before you send that reactive email or make that stressful call, simply breathe and wait out the 90 seconds. The No Big Decisions Window: The first hour after waking up is biologically your highest cortisol window of the entire day. It is absolutely not the time for difficult conversations, big text messages, or major life choices. Let the morning hormonal curve come down naturally first, then make your choices from a place of clarity.Watch the Rate, Not the Total: You do not need your cortisol levels at zero to feel completely fine—you actually need it to function! Stop asking yourself, "Is this gone yet?" Instead, ask, "Is this rising or is it settling?" Shifting your focus to the direction of the stress entirely changes how your body self-regulates.💖 Share the CalmIf this session helped dial down the chemical buzz in your chest today, please leave a five-star review and a comment on Apple Podcasts or Spotify. Other people's storms move around me, not through me. I do not absorb what was never mine to carry. My calm is steady, even when the forecast around me changes. I am the climate I choose to create. 3 Daily Caring TipsTake these practical tools with you into the weeks and months ahead to protect your peace: Breathe Before You Enter: Before walking into a meeting, a room, or a tough conversation, take three mindful breaths and visualize your protective aura growing stronger. Let Storms Pass Through: Remember that you are human, not a weather system. If someone else's mood touches you, give it gentle permission to pass right on by. Audit Your Environments: Notice who in your life is consistently stormy. In tonight’s episode of Calming Anxiety, clinical hypnotherapist and former frontline paramedic Martin helps you transition from a busy day into a peaceful evening. Using the slipping light of a late summer sunset, this practice leverages the concept of neuroception to retrain your nervous system to actively notice safety instead of constantly scanning for what’s next. Through a science-backed 4-2-6 breathing technique and a beautifully visual journey into the "glimmers" of twilight, you'll give your mind and body ultimate permission to slow down, shed the day's negativity, and rest. Whether you are struggling with late-day restlessness or summer seasonal anxiety, let this 10-minute guided meditation ground you. Take a moment to simply be in the light rather than trying to use it. New to the podcast? Hit Follow now so tomorrow's evidence-based session finds you automatically. If this evening's reflection brought you peace, please share it wherever you can to keep our independent channel going! ⏱️ Time Chapters00:00 – Cold Intro & Channel Welcome Meet your host, Martin (Clinical Hypnotherapist and former Paramedic), as we address late-day restlessness and introduce the concept of "glimmers." 01:06 – 4-2-6 Extended Out-Breath Breathing Exercise Settle the body and shift the nervous system away from stress scanning and directly into a calm, parasympathetic state. 02:33 – Late Summer Sunset Visualization Immerse yourself in the warm, honey-colored light and soft auditory cues of a fading summer evening to trigger deep somatic safety. 04:41 – Glimmer Affirmations & Natural Trance State Softly whispered, intentional reminders to help you let the light linger, release the rush, and anchor safety into your thoughts. 07:44 – 3 Daily Caring Tips for Mindful Evenings Practical lifestyle habits to help you consciously register the golden hour, ease productivity guilt, and strengthen your positive neural pathways. 09:10 – Outro, Anchor Course CTA, & Community Ask Gently return to the room with a reminder to protect your mental health, check out the Anchored daily meditation tool, and share this episode. 💫 Tonight's Glimmer AffirmationsVisualize these soothing words in your thoughts and let them land with deep intention: "I let the light linger the way it lingers in the sky." "There is no rush in this evening, and there is none in me." "Small moments of gold are still gold." "I notice, I do not chase." "My nervous system knows safety when it feels it." 🌅 3 Daily Caring Tips for a Happier Life1. The Golden Hour Pause: Sometime this evening, step outside for just two minutes during the golden hour. Notice the color of the lower light on your skin, the leaves, or the pavement—not to photograph or capture it, but simply to register its beauty. 2. The Slow Exhale Switch: If a beautiful evening makes you feel guilty for not being productive, catch that thought. Take one long, slow out-breath as your physical permission slip to simply exist in a moment rather than needing to "use" it. 3. Name It Before You Sleep: Tonight before you go to sleep, name one single glimmer from your day out loud or write it down. Formally naming a glimmer is what actually strengthens your positive neural pathways, changing a fleeting moment into one that stays with you. 📣 Share the Calm & Be KindThis channel isn't run by a massive multinational company—it is genuinely just me, recording these sessions for you from my campervan! I Can't Let This Go - A Guided Meditation to Release Negative Anchors

If there is a painful memory, an old grudge, or a person you keep replaying in your mind, today is your day to let go of what no longer serves you. Releasing the past isn't about pretending it didn't happen; it's about freeing yourself from the heavy baggage that weighs you down so you can carry less and breathe more. In this episode of Calming Anxiety, clinical hypnotherapist and former frontline paramedic Martin Hewlett guides you through a powerful 10-minute somatic release practice. You will discover how the body physically stores the tension of old emotional hurts and learn how to consciously loosen your grip on these negative anchors. Whether you are carrying a recent disappointment or a long-held injustice, this gentle guided meditation will help you break free from old stories, process past pain without judgment, and reclaim the peace that belongs to you in the present moment. Time Chapters00:00 – Letting Go of What No Longer Serves You 00:33 – Welcome to Calming Anxiety with Martin Hewlett 01:16 – Identifying Your Negative Anchors 01:43 – Somatic Breathing: Relaxing and Letting Go 02:02 – How the Body Holds Stress and Emotional Trauma 03:01 – Visualization: Lightening the Weight of Old Hurts 04:08 – Guided Affirmations for Deep Emotional Release 07:02 – 3 Daily Caring Tips for Moving Beyond the Past 08:25 – Grounding and Returning Awareness to the Room 08:46 – Martin’s Personal Journey: Training the Mind to Find the Light 09:52 – Outro: Becoming Your Own Beacon of Hope AffirmationsRepeat these words silently or softly out loud to loosen the grip of old emotional ties: "I release what no longer serves me." "I am not anchored to my past pain." "I let go of the crutches and the fears that weigh me down." "I am free to grow beyond old stories." "I choose peace over the weight I've been carrying." 3 Daily Caring TipsName the Anchor: You cannot release what you haven't consciously identified. Take a moment today to specifically name one grudge, old story, or hurt you are ready to put down; naming it out loud immediately strips away some of its power. The Release Ritual: Physically write down the thing that is weighing you down in just one sentence. Fold the paper up or place it in a drawer to send a physical signal to your nervous system that it is safe to stop holding on. Loosen the Grip: Real emotional release rarely happens all at once, and that is perfectly okay. When the old thought or memory returns today, don't fight it—simply focus on holding it a little more loosely than you did yesterday. OutroLetting go of trauma and old injustices can be one of the hardest things we ever achieve, but please remember that whatever you are going through right now, there is always light and there is always hope. If this 10-minute sanctuary helped lighten your emotional load today, please consider sharing this episode with someone in your life who might be quietly carrying their own heavy anchors. You might be the beacon of hope they need to finally breathe easier. Thank you so much for putting your faith, trust, and time into this practice. I Can't Stop Worrying About Money -- A Guided Meditation for Financial Anxiety

If checking your bank balance leaves you with a tight knot in your chest, or if paying the monthly bills feels like a battle you can't win, this episode is your sanctuary. Financial anxiety is not a personal failure; it is a natural response from an overwhelmed nervous system reacting to a perceived threat. In this episode of Calming Anxiety, clinical hypnotherapist and former paramedic Martin guides you through a powerful 10-minute somatic relaxation practice. You will learn how to settle your nervous system, untangle your self-worth from a number on a screen, and quiet the mental overwhelm of money worries. Discover how to soften the physical tension of stress, find stillness between your breaths, and take back control of your peace of mind—one small, manageable step at a time. Episode Chapters00:00 – Understanding Financial Anxiety as a Nervous System Response 00:41 – Welcome to Calming Anxiety with Martin 01:14 – Somatic Breathing Exercise for Panic and Stress Relief 02:17 – Releasing the Weight of Money Worries 02:41 – Finding Stillness: The Nervous System Reset 03:46 – Guided Visualisation & Positive Affirmations for Abundance 07:26 – 3 Daily Caring Tips for Managing Financial Stress 08:49 – Bringing Awareness Back & Grounding 09:20 – Outro, Sharing the Sanctuary & Closing Thoughts Episode AffirmationsRepeat these words silently in your mind or softly out loud during the practice to let them settle as truth: "My bank balance is a number, it is not a measure of my worth." "I am capable of handling my finances one small step at a time." "This worry is a feeling passing through me, it is not a forecast of my future." "I release the need to solve everything about money right now in this exact moment." "I am safe in this moment, even while my finances are still being figured out." 3 Daily Caring TipsThe One-Look Rule: Avoid compulsively refreshing your banking apps, which only feeds the anxious loop. Choose one intentional moment today to check your balance, close the app, and let it be enough until tomorrow. Separate the Maths from the Meaning: A fluctuating number is just data. Notice when your anxious mind starts spinning stories around that data—such as feelings of being "behind" or "not enough." The One-Step Rule: You don't need to fix your entire financial future today. Take just one small, completed action: open one envelope, write down one expense, or send one message to quiet the overwhelm. Social Media Outro & ShareIf financial anxiety is sitting heavily on your shoulders today, please know that you are not alone. If this 10-minute sanctuary helped you breathe a little easier, please consider sharing this episode with a friend, loved one, or colleague who might be quietly carrying the exact same weight. You could be the reason someone else finds their peace today. Thank you for your continued faith and trust in my work. Don't bury your head in the sand—one small step is all it takes. I Dread Sunday Evenings - 10 Minute Guided Meditation

Does a heavy feeling of dread start to build in your chest every single Sunday evening? You are not alone. In this deeply supportive 10-minute session, clinical hypnotherapist and former frontline paramedic Martin Hewlett breaks down the science behind the "Sunday Scaries"—a process known as anticipatory threat processing. Your intelligent brain is simply scanning the near future to protect you from upcoming workplace stressors, unanswered emails, and the week's demands. However, your nervous system cannot tell the difference between a real threat and an imagined one. Using the highly effective 4-2-6 breathing technique (inhale for 4, pause for 2, and a long, slow exhale for 6), you will learn how to deactivate flight-or-fight mode instantly. By extending your out-breath, you send a clear message of safety to your body, reclaiming Sunday night for the deep rest you deserve. Perfect for anyone struggling with work anxiety, weekend burnout, or sleeplessness, this guided practice brings you right back into the present moment where you are safe. ⏱️ Episode Chapters00:00 – Understanding the Low Hum of Sunday Evening Anxiety 01:11 – Getting Comfortable & Preparing to Release Tension 01:26 – The Science of Anticipatory Threat Processing & The Nervous System 02:38 – Breathwork Practice: The 4-2-6 Box Breathing Routine 04:05 – Grounding Exercise: Shifting from Future Dread to Present Safety 04:46 – Subconscious Hypnotherapy: Stepping Out of the Anticipation Loop 08:01 – 3 Daily Caring Tips to Beat the Sunday Scaries 09:33 – Awakening: Gently Returning Awareness to Your Room 09:50 – Outro: Share the Calm & Supporting the Anchored App 🧘 Subconscious Affirmations for Sunday RestLet these comforting truths settle deeply into your thoughts during the quiet space of this track: "I am here right now and that is enough." "The week has not started. I am safe in this moment." "I release what hasn't happened yet." "Sunday evening is mine. It belongs to rest." "I face each day as it comes and I am capable." 💡 3 Daily Caring Tips for Reclaiming Your EveningCarry these actionable habits into your bedtime routine tonight: Give the dread a time limit: When Sunday anxiety arrives, don't fight it. Acknowledge it and tell yourself, "I will think about this at 8 a.m. on Monday morning, not now." Scheduling the worry is highly accepted by the brain and frees your evening back to you. Do one small pleasant thing before bed: Do not use it to distract yourself, but rather to anchor your senses. Make a warm cup of tea, listen to calming music, or step outside for fresh air to signal to your nervous system that tonight is safe. Repetition is key to retraining the brain: Sunday anxiety is a conditioned response. Bookmark this session, save it within your Anchored App, and return to it every single Sunday so your nervous system learns that the week can wait. 👋 Connect & Share the CalmIf this session helped ease your mind tonight, please pass that moment of kindness forward. There Are Glimmers All Around You — A Guided Meditation to Find the Good in Every Day

There are moments happening in your life right now that your anxious mind is walking straight past. Tiny, warm moments that exist quietly in the background of your day, waiting to be noticed. Psychologists call them "glimmers," and the neuroscience is clear: the more you train your brain to find them, the more your nervous system shifts out of threat mode. In this episode of Calming Anxiety, we aren't pretending your problems have gone away; we are simply showing your brain that there is more to your story than just the difficult parts. Through deep, mindful breathing, we activate the vagus nerve to establish safety and connection. Then, we take a gentle walk through an ordinary day to re-tune your brain's survival scanner away from danger and toward warmth. Episode Chapters00:00 – Cold Intro: What Are Glimmers? 00:50 – Welcome from Martin & Settling into Your Space 01:44 – Arriving in the Present & Letting the Noise Move Back 02:33 – Vagus Nerve Activation: The Power of the Long Exhale 04:01 – Guided Walk Through an Ordinary Day 06:21 – Re-Tuning the Scanner: The Neuroscience of Safety 07:14 – Affirmations to Soften Your Anxious Mind 08:29 – 3 Daily Caring Tips to Train Your Brain 10:02 – Returning Awareness & Closing Thoughts Today's Grounding AffirmationsLet these words land gently and feel the warmth they bring to your chest: "I notice what is warm, I notice what is good." "My day contains more light than my anxiety tells me." "I am becoming someone who hunts the glimmers, not threats." "I deserve to feel a quiet beauty that already surrounds me." "For good moments are real, they count, I allow them in." "I am grateful, I am present, I am here." 3 Daily Caring TipsTake these simple, powerful habits with you to rewrite your neural pathways today: The One Glimmer Rule: Before you check your phone, notifications, or messages today, find one physical glimmer first—a sound, a texture, or a temperature. Just notice it. Pass One On: Share a single sentence about a glimmer you found with someone else today. Sharing a glimmer multiplies it and shifts two nervous systems at once. The Evening Collect: Before sleep, ask yourself: "What was my glimmer today?" This single habit trains your brain to look for safety and does wonders for anxiety. We leave Dr. Watson looking forward to a bright future of love, while Sherlock Holmes returns to the still, cold comfort of his thoughts. Let the steady, rhythmic unspooling of this final narrative quiet any lingering daytime thoughts, release the tension in your body, and carry you softly into a deep, uninterrupted night of rest. The perfect conclusion for easing nighttime restlessness, soothing insomnia, and enjoying a relaxing literary escape.Stay ConnectedThe Anchored App: Take lasting calm with you everywhere. No person, no deadline, no memory gets to set it for me.I greet difficult thoughts with curiosity, not combat. I can observe them without obeying them.My mind is open and my outlook is mine to curate. I choose what I dwell on today.Other people’s tension is not my assignment. I can stand beside it without absorbing it.I carry lightness into this week, not because everything is perfect, but because I have decided to lead with warmth.❤️ 3 Daily Caring TipsTake these three practical turns with you into the week to change the momentum of your mornings:1. The Threshold Check: Before walking through any door today (front door, office, car), pause for a single breath. Ask yourself: "What am I carrying into this room?" If it's tension or someone else's mood, drop it at the threshold.2. Defuse the Negative Sentence: Catch the very first negative thought that arrives today (e.g., "This is going to be awful"). Rewrite it out loud into something honest and open: "I don’t know how today will go, and that’s actually fine."3. Lend Your Warmth: Within the first hour of being around others, offer a genuine piece of warmth—a compliment, an unhurried question, or calm eye contact. Steer your energy outward before anxiety can turn it inward.👋 Support & Share the ShowIf this Monday morning reset helped you find your footing today, please take a brief moment to support our community:Subscribe: Hit that follow button so you never miss a daily session.Leave a Review: If you have 30 seconds, drop a 5-star rating and review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify. Your feedback shapes what it becomes.Calming Anxiety: Finding Happiness in the Little Things (Sunday Glimmers Meditation)Welcome. I'm Martin, and this is Calming Anxiety—ten minutes that belong entirely to you. There is a certain beautiful softness to a Sunday, isn't there? Let's not rush a single thing today. Today, we are exploring something gentle: finding happiness, not the big fireworks kind, but the small kind that is already here hiding in plain sight. There is a lovely word for these micro-moments of peace: glimmers. These are the tiny sparks of calm, safety, and delight that we usually walk straight past. In my years on the front line as a paramedic, I learned that while the nervous system is always scanning for danger, it is also constantly looking for signals of safety—a warm hand, a kind voice, or a patch of sunlight. These glimmers tell your body, "You are safe now. You can soften." Today, we slow down just enough to catch a few, letting your breath be completely natural, unforced, and easy as we give your soul a perfect moment of time out.Tonight's Calming Affirmations for Finding Happiness:Repeat these words silently in your thoughts or whisper them softly on your tongue, visualizing the shape and color of each letter:The good is already here, I only have to catch it.I deserve the smaller lights of this day.Happiness lives in the tiny moments, and I am learning to savor them.I welcome this quiet contentment exactly as it is.Every glimmer I collect makes the next one easier to find.Your 3 Daily Caring Tips to Savor the Good:Collect Three Before Sleep: Tonight, before you fall asleep, name three tiny glimmers from your day out loud or in your head. The smaller they are, the better. This isn't just a comforting habit; each time you do this, you are actively training your mind to spot the good more easily tomorrow.Give the Good Moment Three More Seconds: When you encounter something small that feels lovely—a taste, a warm bit of sun, a genuine laugh—don't rush past it. Stay right there inside it for three seconds longer than you normally would. Savoring is a skill, and those extra three seconds are how a fleeting moment actually lands and stays in your nervous system.Leave Yourself a Glimmer Trail: Keep a dedicated note page on your phone or a physical jar on your shelf, and add just one small glimmer to it each day. On a heavy, gray day—and they come to us all—you will have a personalized collection to read back in your own words. It is undeniable proof that the good was always there.Help Someone Else Spot the Light TodayIf today's session gave you even one small moment of calm, will you pass it on? Share this episode to your social media. Someone scrolling through their feed right now might desperately need a quiet reminder that the good is still there, waiting to be found in the little things. Share it, tag me so I can see it, and let's spread a little quiet contentment together.Go gently into your Sunday. Catch a few glimmers for me.Smile often, positivity whenever you can, and then to yourself—be kind.👉 Click to subscribe and unlock ad-free episodes now!Support the Show:Ad-Free Listening: Enjoy Calming Anxiety without ads at https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/calming-anxiety--4110266/supportBuy Me a Coffee: Support hosting costs at https://www.buymeacoffee.com/calminganxietyhttps://calminganxietypodcast.substack.com/?r=6zm0sc&utm_campaign=pub-share-checklistRate & Review: Leave a 5-star review on Spotify or Apple Podcasts to help us reach more listeners!YouTube: Watch all episodes at https://www.youtube.com/c/calminganxiety?sub_confirmation=1 Social Media Support: For younger listeners struggling with social media stress, visit https://www.icanhelp.net/Backing Music: Chris Collins===================Affiliate links to the gear I use the items that give me a more tranquil life.=============================Items I use for a more relaxed way of life :)Organic Pure Hemp CBD Capsules - https://amzn.to/3Ready for More Calm?Thank you for listening to the Calming Anxiety Podcast, featuring guided meditation, mindfulness, and sleep hypnosis sessions with Martin Hewlett. Get access to this entire meditation library in one calm place on your phone. Tap the link to join the open beta, have a wander around, and let me know your thoughts!Calming Anxiety: How to Stop a Panic Attack Now (Paramedic Breathing Technique)Welcome. I'm Martin, and this is Calming Anxiety—ten minutes that belong entirely to you. If you are currently in the middle of a severe panic attack, or you feel sudden panic and anxiety starting to surge, you are in exactly the right place. You do not have to fight this alone, and you do not need to change a thing. Just stay with me, let your eyes soften, and let us breathe together. In my 25 years of experience working as a frontline emergency paramedic, I learned that the absolute fastest way to calm a racing heart and settle a terrified body is never the breath in—it is always the long, slow breath out. When your exhalation is longer than your inhalation, you physically press a braking mechanism inside your own nervous system. You send an immediate physiological message to your brain that the danger has passed. This guided meditation breathing to release panic will help you regain control, step by step. We will unhinge the jaw, drop the shoulders, soften the belly, and turn down the internal alarm system until the peak has passed. As someone who used to suffer from severe panic attacks myself, I know how terrifying they are, but I also know that these specific physical techniques work to control them.Tonight's Calming Affirmations for Panic:Repeat these words silently in your thoughts or whisper them softly on your tongue to anchor your subconscious mind:This feeling is big, and I can handle it.I have felt this before, and I have come through safely every single time.Right here, right now, I am already beginning to steady.Every single breath out is turning my internal alarm down. This will pass, and it is already passing.Your 3 Daily Caring Tips for a Calmer Life:Use Your Pocket Break: The 4-6 breathing technique goes everywhere you go. You do not need a quiet room or an app to find immediate panic attack relief. Whether you are in a stressful meeting, on a busy train, or standing in a supermarket queue, quietly breathe in through your nose for a count of four, hold briefly, and release a long, slow breath out through soft lips for a count of six. It is the one tool that is always with you.Cool the Physical System: If a sudden panic attack is surging, splash ice-cold water onto your face or run cold water over your wrists. This rapid temperature change triggers the natural mammalian dive reflex in your body, which automatically slows your heart rate. It is a genuine biological shortcut to halt a racing body, not just a mental distraction.Be Deeply Gentle Afterwards: Surviving a panic attack is physically exhausting because your body has just endured a massive adrenaline surge. When the adrenaline clears, treat yourself with the exact same warmth, love, and compassion you would show to a loved one who has just been through a crisis. Rest, stay warm, and offer yourself not a single word of internal criticism. You came through it, and that is more than enough.Help Someone Else Find Calm TodayIf these ten minutes helped you steady your mind even a little bit, please consider doing the kindest thing possible: share this episode. Someone in your life right now might be quietly fighting a terrifying wave of anxiety today. A single post, a link, or a quick private message from you could put the exact tools on how to stop a panic attack right into their hands at the precise moment they need it most. Share it on your social media, tag me so I can see it, and let us help each other heal.Take care today. You did something incredibly brave by pausing to breathe. I will be right here waiting for you tomorrow.Smile whenever you can. Books at Bedtime by Calming Anxiety - The Sign of the Four Chapter 8

Books at Bedtime: The Sign of the Four – Chapter 8 (The Baker Street Irregulars)Welcome back to a place of rest and tranquility with another soothing episode of Books at Bedtime, brought to you by the Calming Anxiety podcast and the Anchored app. Tonight, we continue our gentle journey through the fog-bound streets of Victorian London with Chapter 8 of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s The Sign of the Four, titled "The Baker Street Irregulars". As the thrill of the nighttime chase gives way to the soft light of morning, Toby the dog faithfully recovers a lost trail, leading Holmes and Watson to a quiet riverside wharf. Here, they discover that the elusive wooden-legged man has slipped away down the Thames aboard a steam launch named the Aurora. Rather than rushing into a frantic river pursuit, Holmes wisely delegates the search to his trusted, street-smart network of local lads: the Baker Street Irregulars. Returning to the warmth and safety of their 221B Baker Street rooms, our weary companions enjoy a restorative breakfast while chuckling over an eager, yet entirely inaccurate, newspaper account of the Norwood mystery. Holmes quietly unravels the chilling origins of the second suspect using his encyclopedic knowledge. Then, recognizing Watson's deep exhaustion, Holmes takes up his violin and plays a low, dreamy, and melodious air, guiding his friend—and you—into a peaceful, much-needed slumber. Take a deep breath, let go of the day's tension, and allow this classic tale to carry you gently into Dreamland.👉 Click to subscribe and unlock ad-free episodes now!Support the Show:Ad-Free Listening: Enjoy Calming Anxiety without ads at https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/calming-anxiety--4110266/supportBuy Me a Coffee: Support hosting costs at https://www.buymeacoffee.com/calminganxietyhttps://calminganxietypodcast.substack.com/?r=6zm0sc&utm_campaign=pub-share-checklistRate & Review: Leave a 5-star review on Spotify or Apple Podcasts to help us reach more listeners!YouTube: Watch all episodes at https://www.youtube.com/c/calminganxiety?sub_confirmation=1 Social Media Support: For younger listeners struggling with social media stress, visit https://www.icanhelp.net/Backing Music: Chris Collins===================Affiliate links to the gear I use the items that give me a more tranquil life.=============================Items I use for a more relaxed way of life :)Organic Pure Hemp CBD Capsules - https://amzn.to/3Ready for More Calm?Thank you for listening to the Calming Anxiety Podcast, featuring guided meditation, mindfulness, and sleep hypnosis sessions with Martin Hewlett. Books at Bedtime by Calming Anxiety - The Sign of the Four Chapter 7

Books at Bedtime: The Sign of the Four – Chapter 7 (The Episode of the Barrel)Welcome to another soothing installment of Books at Bedtime, brought to you by the Calming Anxiety podcast and the Anchored app. In tonight's reading, we drift back into the fog-tinged world of Victorian London with Chapter 7 of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic Sherlock Holmes mystery, The Sign of the Four.As the frantic and dark energy of the night begins to settle into the quiet grey of a winter dawn, Dr. Watson escorts a weary Miss Morstan home, wrestling with his growing affection and the unfairness of a massive inheritance that stands like a barrier between them. Returning to Pondicherry Lodge, Watson reunites with Holmes and an eccentric new ally—Toby, the ugly, long-eared, half-spaniel mongrel with an unmatched nose for a trail.Together with Toby, they follow the pungent scent of creosote through the zigzagging side streets of London, tracking the elusive wooden-legged man, Jonathan Small, and his mysterious, nimble accomplice. Holmes brilliantly reconstructs the history of the Agra treasure, the pact made by the four associates, and the tragic sequence of events that led to the murder of Bartholomew Sholto. Yet, even the finest deductive minds are prone to the whimsical twists of fate, leading to a surprisingly humorous climax at a London timberyard.Let the rhythmic pace of this classic detective tale ground your mind, quiet your thoughts, and ease you into a deep, restful sleep.👉 Click to subscribe and unlock ad-free episodes now!Support the Show:Ad-Free Listening: Enjoy Calming Anxiety without ads at https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/calming-anxiety--4110266/supportBuy Me a Coffee: Support hosting costs at https://www.buymeacoffee.com/calminganxietyhttps://calminganxietypodcast.substack.com/?r=6zm0sc&utm_campaign=pub-share-checklistRate & Review: Leave a 5-star review on Spotify or Apple Podcasts to help us reach more listeners!YouTube: Watch all episodes at https://www.youtube.com/c/calminganxiety?sub_confirmation=1 Social Media Support: For younger listeners struggling with social media stress, visit https://www.icanhelp.net/Backing Music: Chris Collins===================Affiliate links to the gear I use the items that give me a more tranquil life.=============================Items I use for a more relaxed way of life :)Organic Pure Hemp CBD Capsules - https://amzn.to/3Ready for More Calm?Thank you for listening to the Calming Anxiety Podcast, featuring guided meditation, mindfulness, and sleep hypnosis sessions with Martin Hewlett. When You Feel a Bit Bleugh | 10 Minute Meditation for those Low Days

For When You're Feeling a Little Bleugh | Vagus Nerve Reset & Deep RestSome days, you aren't completely ill enough to stop, but you simply don't feel well enough to feel like your true self. It’s that flat, grey, running-on-empty feeling that doesn't quite have a proper name. If you are feeling a bit "bleugh," deflated, or just cognitively and physically drained today, this gentle mindfulness and clinical hypnotherapy session is created exactly for you.In this episode, we explore why a blurred day doesn't mean a broken day—it simply means your nervous system is asking for recalibration and gentleness.Together, we will activate your biological "off switch" using a targeted vagus nerve breathing practice, rest within a comforting, golden visualization, and realign your mindset with intentional affirmations. You don’t have to perform wellness or rise above today. You just have to move through it gently.🎧 Episode Chapters00:00 – Introduction: The 'Bleugh' FeelingMartin shares a personal update on fighting off a heavy systemic reaction (cellulitis) from an insect bite, reminding us that even practitioners have days where they need to lean into the tools they teach.01:34 – The Vagus Nerve ResetA guided, deep parasympathetic breathing exercise ($4-2-6$ pacing) designed to signal absolute safety to the brain, drop the shoulders, and release physical tension.03:41 – Golden Hour Relaxation VisualizationStep into a quiet, warm afternoon with no demands, no agendas, and zero pressure to "fix" how you feel.06:36 – Affirmations for Low-Energy DaysInternalized positive suggestions to help give your body and mind permission to rest without guilt.09:01 – The 3 Daily Caring TipsPractical, actionable steps to stop an emotional spiral and support your recovery.10:26 – Grounding & Gentle AwakeningBringing awareness back to the physical body, leaving you restored, peaceful, and grounded.🌟 Mindful Affirmations for Deep RestRepeat these silently to yourself during the session to let them truly land:"I am allowed to feel low without it meaning something is wrong.""My body is doing its best today, and so am I.""I do not have to earn my rest.""This feeling is temporary. I have moved through difficult days before.""I am gentler with myself today than the world asks me to be."☕ 3 Daily Caring Tips for Happier LivingName It Without Catastrophizing When you feel low, your brain naturally tries to search for a massive problem or reason, which frequently spirals the anxiety. Instead, say quietly to yourself: "I just feel low today, and that is allowed." Naming it simply stops the spiral before it can take root.Do One Very Small Act of Care Low-energy days respond to tiny kindnesses, not grand overhauls. Drink a warm cup of tea, spend five minutes sitting outside, or listen to a song you love. This small signal lets your nervous system know you haven't abandoned yourself.Lower the Bar on Purpose Today is not the day to measure your output against your peak performance days. Deliberately do less than you think you "should," and watch how the world safely keeps spinning. That is vital data for your recovery.Note & Community SupportWhy your interaction matters: The Apple Podcasts algorithm heavily weights Listener Engagement and Completion Rates over historical download counts. Choosing to spend 10 minutes restorative time inside this episode rather than pushing through the grind doesn't just benefit your health—it signals to Apple that this is high-quality, deeply impactful content worth sharing with others who are struggling. If you want to dive deeper into breaking the loop of stress, the Anxiety Breaker Course is always ready for you with five focused, clinical hypnotherapy sessions.🤝 Share the ComfortIf this session brought a little bit of light or relief to your grey day, please take a moment to pass it along. You don't have to fully believe them yet—just allow them to land: "My body is not my enemy. It is working hard for me right now.""Sensations are not symptoms. My nervous system is sensitive, not broken.""I am allowed to feel uncertainty and choose not to search for answers right now.""I release the need to check. The answer I am looking for is already here. I am safe.""My mind has been working so hard to protect me. I give it permission to rest."3 Daily Caring Tips for Health Anxiety ReliefGive the Worry a Window: If anxious health thoughts pop up, don't fight them.
