Most of us can easily say, “I’ve never murdered anyone.” But Jesus asks us to look much deeper: What is happening in our hearts toward other people? Last time in The Upside-Down Kingdom series, we saw Jesus declare that the righteousness of His kingdom must go deeper than the outward religion of the scribes and Pharisees.But what does that kind of righteousness actually look like?This Wednesday, Pastor Robert continues through the Sermon on the Mount as Jesus begins to show us. Throughout the rest of Matthew 5, Jesus takes familiar commands and brings them directly to the heart addressing anger, lust, marriage, integrity, retaliation, and even how we treat our enemies.Jesus takes us beyond the act of murder and confronts the anger and attitudes of the heart. Have you ever wondered what Jesus meant when He said, “I did not come to destroy the Law or the Prophets…but to fulfill”? What does that mean for us today? And what did Jesus mean when He said our righteousness must go beyond that of the scribes and Pharisees? This Wednesday night, Pastor Robert Baltodano continues through the Sermon on the Mount in our series, The Upside-Down Kingdom. We’re coming to an important turning point in Jesus’ message. He is going to show us that following Him is about so much more than outwardly keeping a set of rules. Jesus takes us deeper, to a righteousness that reaches the heart and transforms the way we live.

Pastor Lloyd shows us the danger and destruction that come from rebellion against God and His Word. As Sheba leads a rebellion against David, God’s anointed king, Joab is prepared to destroy a city filled with innocent people in his pursuit of him. However, one wise woman, who knew God’s Word and understood the situation, reasons with Joab, and the city is spared. This message reminds us of the importance of learning, knowing, and applying God’s Word as we seek wisdom in the midst of a rebellious world.

Salt and light are both easy to overlook, until they're missing. Jesus chose these two ordinary, everyday illustrations to describe the extraordinary influence His followers are to have in the world. But what did He mean, and why did He choose them?Over the past two weeks, we've been studying the Beatitudes in Jesus' Sermon on the Mount. We discovered that Jesus isn't simply giving us a list of moral virtues to imitate. He's describing the character of those who belong to His Kingdom. True Kingdom citizens are transformed from the inside out. The Christian life is not about trying harder to be a better person; it is about becoming more like our Savior as He transforms our hearts.This Wednesday, we'll continue our series, The Upside Down Kingdom, with a new message entitled: The Heart That Influences the World (Matthew 5:13-14). Jesus now turns from describing the character of His disciples to explaining their influence in the world. What did Jesus mean when He called His followers "the salt of the earth" and "the light of the world"?  

In this message, David is heartbroken by a victory that came at the cost of his son Absalom’s life. Pastor Lloyd emphasizes David’s grief as he wishes he could have died in the place of his rebellious son. Yet David could not save Absalom. His sorrow points us to another Son of David—Jesus Christ—who willingly died in the place of rebels so that they might be forgiven, redeemed, and saved.

Last week, we continued our journey through the Sermon on the Mount by studying the first four Beatitudes. We discovered that Jesus begins His greatest sermon by addressing the heart. True citizens of God's Kingdom recognize their spiritual poverty, grieve over sin, walk in humility, and hunger and thirst for righteousness. These qualities stand in stark contrast to the values of our world, reminding us that God's Kingdom is truly an upside-down Kingdom.The Beatitudes don't simply describe how Christians should act, they describe who Christians are becoming through the transforming work of Christ. As we conclude this section of Jesus' sermon, we'll see that the character of God's people shines brightest in a world that often values the exact opposite.This Wednesday, pastor Robert Baltodano will expound on the final four Beatitudes (Matthew 5:7–10), where Jesus reveals how a transformed heart begins to impact our relationships with others and our witness to the world.

In this message, Pastor Lloyd emphasizes the danger of pride and how it ultimately leads to destruction. Absalom’s pride consumed him and brought about his downfall, while David submitted to God and relied on Him for strength and safety. Even when God seems to be working behind the scenes, we can trust that He is sovereign and His purposes will prevail.

This Wednesday evening, Pastor Robert Baltodano continues our journey through the Sermon on the Mount as we begin exploring one of the most well-known and life-changing sections of Scripture: The Beatitudes (Matthew 5:3–10).Last week, he laid the foundation by examining the historical setting of Jesus' Sermon on the Mount—looking at the crowd, the significance of the mountain, and why the King sat down to teach His disciples. With the stage now set, we're ready to begin unpacking the truths of the Beatitudes. Over the next two weeks, we'll be looking at the Beatitudes in two parts as Jesus reveals the character of those who belong to His Kingdom.This week we'll begin with: Part 1 - The Heart That Depends on God (Matthew 5:3-6)These opening Beatitudes remind us that the Christian life doesn't begin with what we do for God, but with recognizing our complete dependence upon Him.

As David flees from his son Absalom, the unfolding crisis exposes the true character of everyone involved. Pastor Lloyd emphasizes that seasons of conflict reveal what is truly in a person's heart. While Absalom pursues power through pride and self-interest, David humbly entrusts himself to the Lord in prayer and submission. In these chapters, David's rejection by men and dependence on God point forward to Jesus Christ, who was likewise rejected yet faithfully submitted to His Father's will.

After Absalom kills his brother, he is sent away from Jerusalem. Though David is eventually persuaded to bring him home, Absalom slowly steals the hearts of the people of Israel, leading a rebellion against his own father. Pastor Lloyd contrasts these two charismatic leaders, showing that while David trusted in the Lord despite his failures, Absalom trusted in himself, revealing the danger of ambition, pride, and a heart that seeks power apart from God.

Pastor Lloyd examines the tragic downfall of David's family in 2 Samuel 13. After Amnon sins against his sister Tamar, he is ultimately killed by his brother Absalom. David's own past sin left him spiritually weakened in leading and disciplining his household, revealing the devastating consequences of unchecked sin. Through this sobering account, Pastor Lloyd points us to our need for a greater, perfectly righteous King—Jesus Christ.

A year after David's adultery with Bathsheba and the murder of Uriah, it appears he has hidden his sin. But while he concealed it from others, he could not hide from God. The Lord sends Nathan to confront David, leading him to repentance. Though David faces the consequences of his sin, God graciously restores him and blesses David and Bathsheba with Solomon.

This week, Pastor Vinny Fernandez will be teaching on "Contending Well: Paul's Theology of Conflict" from assorted Scriptures, examining how Paul faced conflict with wisdom, humility, and unwavering commitment to the truth of the gospel. In this Fourth of July message, Pastor Lloyd emphasizes the vital role the Bible played in the founding of the United States and the vital role it must continue to play in the nation’s future. Many of the Founding Fathers were faithful Christians or, at the very least, biblically literate. God has sovereignly orchestrated America’s beginning, and His people must persevere in righteousness. While we celebrate our nation’s independence, we must also celebrate our dependence on God, for without Him, this nation cannot stand. Ultimately, our only hope for restoration is Jesus.

This week, Pastor Jonathan Manning will be teaching a message titled "Relationships Matter" from assorted scriptures, taking from the example of the Apostle Paul the importance of Christ-centered relationships and how God uses them to strengthen, encourage, and mature us in our faith.

Pastor Tony has faithfully served his congregation for more than three decades and is a well-respected voice throughout the Calvary Chapel movement. Known for his engaging, verse-by-verse teaching of God's Word, he has ministered nationally and internationally — equipping believers, strengthening leaders, and pouring into marriages and families along the way.Pastor Tony will be bringing a message from Ephesians 5:18-33 titled "How Does The Holy Spirit Look Like?"

David, a man after God’s own heart who conquered Goliath and defeated Philistine armies, fell into the trap of lust. Pastor Lloyd warns that there is often danger after great victories. David should have been fighting alongside his men, but instead, he stayed home and entertained temptation. Rather than resisting it, he walked into the night and embraced it, then brutally covered up his sin. The same danger exists today when we are left alone with our screens and confronted with temptation. Pastor Lloyd highlights the importance of considering the consequences of our choices. No matter our victories or strengths, we are helpless without God. Though David was stained by sin, as we all are, the sacrifice of Christ is able to wash us white as snow.

Pastor Brien Dunphy will be sharing a message titled "Theology of Theologies," offering insight into the theological foundations that shaped Paul's ministry and continue to impact the Church today.

When we deserved justice, the Lord showed us grace and kindness. In 2 Samuel 8–10, David was establishing his kingdom in Jerusalem. Remembering his covenant with Jonathan, David sought out Jonathan's son, Mephibosheth, and showed him extraordinary kindness. Pastor Lloyd highlights this beautiful picture of God's grace toward us through Jesus Christ, who has shown us mercy and invited us to sit at His table as His children. To reject such a gift would be foolish.

Pastor Robert will kick off the series with a message from Acts 9 titled, “From Persecutor to Preacher,” looking at the powerful conversion of Saul of Tarsus and how God can radically transform any life for His glory.

Bad news often comes before good news. In 2 Samuel 7, David desires to build a house for God, but the Lord reveals that David is not the one who will accomplish that task. What may have seemed like disappointing news was actually the doorway to something far greater. God promises David an everlasting kingdom and points forward to the coming Messiah, Jesus Christ. Join Pastor Lloyd as he explores how God's plans often exceed our expectations, teaching us to trust Him when His answer is different from what we had hoped.

Pastor Vinny will be sharing a message titled, “From Bitterness to Forgiveness,” out of Romans 5:8. As we look at the depth of Christ’s love for us—even while we were still sinners—we’ll be encouraged to let go of bitterness, walk in forgiveness, and experience the freedom that only the gospel can bring!

In this message, Pastor Lloyd looks at David’s desire to seek the Lord and follow His direction, especially in times of battle. David’s victories remind us that the Lord was with him, guiding and establishing him as king. Yet Scripture also honestly records David’s failures, including his compromise with multiple marriages and his mishandling of the ark’s return. Through David’s life, we see both the seriousness of obedience and the faithfulness of God toward those who remain sensitive to His voice.

Pastor Cory Kilgus and his wife, Danielle, have been serving as missionaries in Peru since 2013, planting churches and raising up leaders throughout South America through Calvary Bible Institute Peru.

David’s throne is finally established as he becomes king over all Israel. Pastor Lloyd highlights David’s unique role as the “Shepherd King,” a title that ultimately points forward to the true King, Jesus Christ, the Good Shepherd. In this message, we’ll trace Israel’s turbulent history and see God’s faithful plan to redeem and restore His people, leading them back to their rightful Shepherd and King, Jesus Christ.

Last week, Pastor Robert Baltodano opened Psalm 13 with David’s honest cry, “How long, O Lord?”—reminding us that faith isn’t threatened by honest questions, nor does it require having all the answers.Tonight, we’ll look at Psalm 13:3–6 and see David’s shift from confusion to confidence: “But I trust in Your unfailing love.” Even when circumstances don’t change, we’re reminded to anchor ourselves in God’s character, lift our eyes in the waiting, and choose worship before the answers come.

In this Mother’s Day message, Pastor Lloyd focuses on the God-given calling of mothers. Mothers have the responsibility of showing God’s grace and love to their children. Motherhood is an apprenticeship in God’s grace, teaching both sacrifice and compassion. Spiritual motherhood is crucial in nurturing children, pointing them to follow and love the Lord.

Dr. Mathew is a mission-driven surgeon serving in Bihar, India, where he leads a growing mission hospital that brings care to thousands through medical treatment, education, and community outreach through the ministry of Helping Hands for Hospitals International. Alongside his wife, Dr. Amy Mathew, he has also served with Mercy Ships, using their skills to bring hope and healing in the name of Christ.His message, “Going All In: Responding to Christ’s Loving Call” (Matthew 13:44–46; Luke 5:11, 27–28), will challenge and encourage us to consider what it truly means to surrender everything and follow Jesus wholeheartedly.

In this encouraging message from 2 Corinthians chapter 2, the power of forgiveness and restoration within the body of Christ is explored. Apostle Paul urges the church in Corinth to forgive a repentant brother, showing how grace triumphs over judgment and how restoring relationships reflects God’s own mercy toward us. Pastor Lloyd emphasizes that the church is a hospital for the hurting, not a museum for the perfect. Even within the church, there are those who struggle with sin and are brokenhearted over it. As brothers and sisters in Christ, we are called to encourage one another with tenderness, helping each other grow closer to the Lord in faith.

The Messiah in the Passover begins with the traditional Passover Seder table – complete with all the articles of this important Jewish celebration. Peter was given a specific understanding from the Lord Jesus from which Pastor Lloyd wants us to learn: like Peter, we can grow closer to the Lord and overcome fear and doubt in the process. We as Believers need to know why we can believe in the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ. This message looks at John’s testimony and details of the empty tomb, as described, and more. Throughout this message is the question of “the story,” which everyone has, beginning with a personal encounter with Jesus.

After the amazing healing of a man born blind, John records yet another miraculous sign, given as another convincing proof that Jesus is who he says. This is the account of Lazarus, who became sick and then died. Jesus, the good shepherd, now shows that he is also the resurrection and the life when he raises Lazarus from the dead. Pastor Lloyd takes a close look at Jesus’ rather curious response to Lazarus’ sisters, Martha and Mary who believe, contrasted with the religious leaders who plot to kill him.
