Cedar Valley Church - Sunday Messages

Most of us find it easier to share good news than almost anything else — a new baby, a great restaurant, a film we loved. And yet when it comes to the most significant thing in our lives, faith, many of us go quiet. We worry about coming across as pushy, weird, or naive. We tell ourselves that faith is private, or that living a good life is witness enough.Every person who follows Jesus today does so because someone, at some point, told them. If the first Christians had kept it to themselves, the story would have ended there. And the things Jesus offers — peace, forgiveness, meaning, life in all its fullness (John 10:10) — are too good to keep to ourselves. Like finding water in a desert, it would be strange not to tell the people around us.The good news is that you tell other by lliving with presence and integrity in the world, gentle persuasion rather than pressure, sharing your personal story, and praying consistently for the people in your life. None of these require you to have all the answers. The simplest and most powerful thing you can offer is: "This is what God has done for me."We can't change people's hearts – only God can. Our job is to be faithful, to stay in relationship, to keep praying. And we never know what the Holy Spirit is quietly doing in someone's life, even when we can't see it.

At the heart of the Christian faith is love — and the Holy Spirit is the one who brings that love and makes it real in our lives. The deepest human need isn't achievement or comfort; it's to be truly loved, seen, and wanted. Through the Holy Spirit, God doesn't just tell us he loves us — he pours that love directly into our hearts.Ephesians 5:18 tells us to "go on being filled" with the Holy Spirit — the original Greek is present continuous, meaning this isn't a one-time event but an ongoing reality. It's possible to be a Christian and not be filled: like a pilot light that's always on, but the gas hasn't yet come on fully. The question is whether we're willing to open up and let God turn up the flame.In the book of Acts, people come to the Holy Spirit from five very different starting points — longing, openness, hostility, ignorance, and unlikely spiritual background. None of these disqualify someone. Whether you've been a follower of Jesus for decades or walked in deeply skeptical, the Spirit is available. The physical signs — wind, fire, deep breaths, tears — may or may not happen, and they're not what matters most. What matters is what happens in the heart: an experience of being loved by God that changes everything.The invitation is simple and ancient: Come, Holy Spirit. When we're consistently filled, that love doesn't stay locked inside — it overflows into every friendship, relationship, and corner of our lives.

When we try confessing we are often surprised it is not received well. Sometimes we are told “don’t apologize” by someone who does not want to recognize your imperfections for fear that it would show their imperfections too. Sometimes our confession is met with a barrage of more accusations to ensure that the spotlight is on our imperfections and the accusers imperfections are never brought into the light. Othertimes the response to our confession is that what we have done will not or cannot be forgiven because the person we confessed to believes that the damage we have done is irreparable, even by God. Scripture calls us as confessors to love those who are living in spiritual darkness and show them grace, even when they treat us with unforgiveness. If we find ourselves struggling to accept confession from others we may need to address where we are hiding from God’s spiritual light or where we may not trust his ability to heal what humans have broken.

Confession is only real—and only healing—when it’s complete: 100% of the truth, 100% of the responsibility, and involving 100% of the people impacted. Through the parable of two friends, we see one choose full confession with honesty, humility, and a desire to rebuild, while the other minimizes, hides details, and eventually loses trust and connection. We’re often tempted to confess just enough to manage damage or avoid consequences, but partial confession can’t bring full restoration. In Scripture, Saul made excuses while David offered raw repentance—and only David found true healing. Psalm 51 and 1 John 1 remind us that confession isn’t about looking good, it’s about being made whole. Healing begins when we stop protecting ourselves and start opening our hearts to truth, accountability, and grace. This week, the challenge is simple but hard: go back and make one confession 100%—because God can only fully heal what we fully bring into the light.

We all want to be generous and live out God’s mission, but too often, we don’t have the financial margin to say “yes” when opportunities arise. We want to give, serve, and bless others, but debt, expenses, and a lack of planning hold us back.Joseph’s story in Genesis reminds us of the power of financial wisdom. He prepared during abundance so he could provide during famine. Likewise, Proverbs 3 teaches that when we trust God, honor Him with our wealth, and seek His will, He leads us into a life of provision and purpose.Margin isn’t about how much you make—it’s about what you prioritize. Are you creating space in your budget to be ready for God’s call? Consider adjusting your finances to make room for generosity, service, and mission. When we surrender our plans to God, He provides more than enough.

Our bodies are a gift from God, yet we often misuse or neglect them. Whether it's overindulgence in food, sex, or substances, or exhausting ourselves through overwork, we risk dishonoring what God designed for good. Some even preserve their bodies like fragile art pieces, missing out on using them to serve and love others.1 Corinthians 6 reminds us that our bodies belong to God, and He calls us to honor Him with them. This means living out our sexuality well, caring for our physical well-being, and embracing rest as an act of trust in God’s provision. Our fitness should empower us to love others well, not become a pursuit of status or control.If your body feels out of balance—whether through addiction, neglect, or overwork—God’s power can bring healing. Surrender your body to Him, embrace truth in community, and take steps to align your life with His priorities.
