Chillin at the Fountain

Hi, we are Steph and Danielle - two thirtysomethings who have been BFFs since middle school. Listen in as we read old Livejournal entries, get real nostalgic and try to avoid being sued.

  1. 44

    44 - Tinsel Tits

We are BACK baby! We have had lots of life changes in the last 1.5 year hiatus but we decided to bring back the pod to all five of our amazing and dedicated listeners. We start out with a recap of a little Facebook drama Danielle found herself in followed by a deep discussion on Money Orders (what are they? Who uses them? Should they be capitalized in this description?). There is also a throwback to a few trademark "appointment" TV shows (X-files, anyone?). Steph's Feb 21, 2006 entry is a cringe-fest heavily influenced by jam band music and Danielle's Jan 21, 2006 entry, inspired by a Barnes & Noble bargain-bin book, ends up leading her down a modern-day 2026 rabbit hole.  Things we mention: The X-Files (Hulu) The Carman Family Deaths (Netflix) Epinions.com (now Shopping.com) Sasha Cagen (Life Coach behind the Quirkyalone, Pussywalking movements) r/SingleAndHappy

  2. 43

    43 - I'm a Genous

We are back! Well, really, mentally we never left - but Danielle DID have a baby so we get a pass, right? We talk about social anxiety and Danielle's motherhood experience so far - but more importantly, Steph issues an apology to Paula Cole for giving Sarah McLachlan credit for the Dawson's Creek theme song. Danielle shares a few entries with supportive comments from Steph, including her experience with a bizarre Twilight Zone locker. Steph updates her LJ from computer lab and we reminisce about crashing each other's classes. We also talk about syndicated radio, why Steph has someone's mother's class ring, and historical events that happened on Steph's birthday (April 27).  Things we mention: VAMP Cometeer Coffee (ask Steph for her referral code for a discount!) Saltburn Zone of Interest Leave the World Behind Everything is Fine by Vince Granada Archie Moore's The Storyteller by Dave Grohl Love Songs from Delilah

  3. 42

42 - Thanks for the Fries, MARK

We are recording LIVE from Steph's living room (which means you can feel free to skip past the first 90 seconds of complete cat shenanigans). Danielle shares her thoughts after finally meeting the Archaeologist and we reminisce about old music that's held up over the years. We share about a few of our favorite CT spots (besides Dunkin, of course) and ponder the actual flavor of Fruity Pebbles. For entries, Danielle mini-deep dives into the Motorola Rokr, the Athenian Diner and Myspace Top 8. Steph shares some tantalizing Halloween costume drama, humble-brags about not being on a school bus for all of senior year, and a field trip spent trolling original Monets.  Also - "what are ya'll doing if you're not rating and reviewing us?!" Things we mention: Amazing Tales from Off and On CT's Beaten Path (Podcast) Radio Rental Fall of the House of Usher Goosebumps The Charles Perkatory Hill-Stead Museum

    41 - Dirt + The Past = Archaeology

In the words of Steph after editing this is episode: "it's a longy!" We start off strong by setting limits around Danielle's on-air gas passing. We share our co-review of Scamanda and Danielle fills us in on the latest Last Podcast on the Left tea. We naturally segue into the never-ending millennial burden of TOO MANY DAMN OPTIONS/FOMO especially when it comes to parenting styles. For our entries, Danielle's entry covers the idealism of young love (AKA setting the absolute lowest bars ever) and dating local rock stars. She also shares about a day in her life without her cellphone in 2005. Steph's 2003 entry takes us down a 12-browser-tab mini Time Capsule/deep-dive into Livejournal: the days when you needed an invite code to join, the LJ commercial, and LJ's evil twin, deadjournal. Things we mention: Scamanda Johnny Cash – Hurt Last Podcast on the Left – Andrew Cunanan series Perfectly Imperfect Parenting by Mary O'Kane American Horror Story – Delicate Dissect - "In Rainbows" Stop Making Sense Michael Flatley's Lord of the Dance These Green Eyes – Watch the Lights Go Out Madonna – Hey Mr. DJ Mini Time Capsule sources: Timeline of Livejournal 12/12/03 entry from Livejournal creator Brad Fitzpatrick: "Invite Codes Are Gone"  Livejournal commercial: "Friends" deadjournal

40 - What to Expect When Danielle is Expecting

We are celebrating some life milestones in this one! Steph is preparing to meet the Archa-parents for lunch and Danielle is having a baby (they really just let anyone have those these days). We also recap our Mom ep followed by an extended share of our latest fave shows, podcasts, and books ... all rounded out by a lighthearted discussion of the entire opioid crisis. Danielle also loves on TV commercials and we both lament the recent hike in Netflix (correction: Hulu) pricing. Our entries cover an entire week in the life of 2003 Steph (which includes a school dance, going to see School of Rock, and calling people on their parent's landlines) and she shares the cringiest thing she's ever done. Danielle curses the dramatic return of her dad's inner climate-control freak in 2006 and a Spill Canvas concert (still the opener, even 17 years later).  Please take a minute to rate/review/subscribe to help us reach more listeners who will love this pod! 39 - GORP! with Special Guests: OUR MOMS

We have no idea how we actually made this work, but this week we are SO excited to share out first episode with Barb and Brenda! We find out what they really think of the podcast, discuss their innate detective Mom-skills, and all take turns sharing our favorite "getting caught" teenage stories. We also reminisce about our Girl Scout days (Troup 4569 represent) and try to work out some friendship math (we have been friends for 2/3 of our lives!). Despite our best efforts to keep them on rails, we sometimes devolve into mom-talk about obscure retirement hobbies (snowshoeing anyone?), updates on our childhood friend's moms, and organic vs. non-organic produce. We end with a really nice segment of Mom-pliments and Danielle experiences a moment of healing with Barb. The Dirty Dozen and The Clean 15 The Station/Great White fire (2003 Washington Post Article)

  7. 38

    38 - America's Wang

Welcome to our cold-open where we wonder about time zones, unrealistically matching up our layovers for way too long, and also is Chicago the middle of the country? Steph is drinking a DIY black-coffee frappe which sends Danielle into a tailspin about the Dunkin Donuts Coffee Coolatta, the OG frozen coffee bev. Inspired by our recent RL Stine Time Capsule ep, we watched the Netflix Fear Street Trilogy and finally share our surprising reactions (no spoilers!). We also touch upon the (apparently controversial) new FOB cover of "We Didn't Start the Fire" and some of our select fave insults we endured in high school. For our entries, Danielle shares about her 20th birthday and a weird, long-forgotten work-around for keeping your MySpace private in the early 00s. Steph shares about choking down hand-rolled cigarettes in an apartment over a motorcycle shop.   Things we mention: Fear Street Trilogy (2021, Netflix) Goosebumps Live on Stage - Screams in the Night Hack or Slash - A Horror Movie Review Podcast Hanson & Busted - MMBop 2.0 Fall Out Boy - We Didn't Start the Fire Hanson - MMBop (YouTube) Undercover Underage "MySpace to Add Restrictions to Protect Younger Teenagers" (New York Times) "MySpace Faces Age-Old Web Problem" (Wired) "Denny's Expands Fusion Favorites Line and Adds New 'Juicy' Version" (Nation's Restaurant News)

37 - CATF Time Capsule: RL Stine & Goosebumps

Special episode recorded on 4th of July!! Fueled by our current summer bevs, we celebrate beach-read season by honoring RL Stine: "the literary training bra" of Stephen King. We start off with how we got our Goosebumps books (Scholastic book fairs anyone?) and Danielle's review of Fear Street: Party Summer (1991) before diving into a short bio of Mr. Robert Laurence Stine. We talk about G-bumps franchise spin-offs (including which were ghost-written!) like Give Yourself Goosebumps, Tales to Give you Goosebumps and other fun treats like the mid-90s Goosebumps TV series and the Escape from Horrorland game for PC. We jump to the present day and talk about the 2021 Fear Street Trilogy on Netflix and "RL Stine's Story Club" podcast. We close by talking about the RLSTNE Wheel of Fortune "free letters," an obvious nod to the world's hardest working training bra.  Special thank you to Goosebumps.fandom.com - the world's most comprehensive collection of all things Goosebumps. 36 - Doin' It for the Dads

We recorded this on Father's Day, but we love dads everyday! We open by adoring our own theme song, naturally. This week is full of nostalgia as we talk about TWO-hit wonder band Fastball, R.L. Stein (AKA the Stephen King of middle schoolers), and fast food commemorative character cups. We also throw in a Radio Rental spoiler and talk about the Black Mirror revival (no spoilers!). Steph's entry covers her entire weekend in June of 2004, complete with trips to The Space, a parking lot carnival, the "new" Waterbury Wal-Mart, and the Athenian Diner. Danielle talks about Father's Day '06, where she got her dad a very random, very '00s beverage. So listen in - and do it for the dads!   Things we mention: Air Blackberry Park Predators podcast Counterclock Stash: My Life in Hiding by Laura Cathcart Robbins Gastropark West Hartford

  10. 35

    35 - Club New England

We are back from Palm Springs, where (full disclosure) we 100% did NOT record in person. We do a quick recap of our trip - including Steph's wild sensory experience at the Integratron. We segue naturally into embracing gray hair, a debate of what actually is New England, and a throwback to the late-90s term "metrosexual." Danielle's 2005 entry reminisces about being on the VIP list for an epic Head Automatic/A Static Lullaby Show and she explains the curious case of a mistaken identity death. Steph's 2004 entry is nearly unrecognizable as she is actually happy (???); she sneaks into a high school chorus concert, gets yelled at in a mall Chili's, and offers an open invite to the public to join her dinner at Friendly's. We end talking about hearing Gen Z slang in the wild and once again humble-brag about how much people love our matching tattoos. P.S. - enjoy the "hard ending."

  11. 34

    34 - Dadlords

This episode starts off really exciting with atleast a 5-minute diatribe about what we are currently drinking. We also play with Spotify Pie and talk about our top artists. Both of our entries are from '07 today: In her entry, Danielle celebrates her family *finally* getting DISH Network and Caller ID on their house phone and promotes the "Vote for the Worst" movement to bring down American Idol. Steph reads FOUR entries for her birthday, and we speculate about the aboslutely underrated significance of taking someone on a date to a local country fair. Naturally, we close with 4.5 minutes talking about vocal warmups.  Things we mention: Phoebe Bridgers SNL performance (You Tube) Radio Rental Alvarium New Britain Spotify Pie 8D Music Playlist

  12. 33

33 - Inter-band Girl Drama (the IBGD Got 'Em)

It's a flea market of an ep this week.... a little bit of everything you never knew you didn't need! We're talking water, UFOs, Lizzo, fertility, and shows we watch but don't like all that much. Also, Steph finds a way to strong-arm the archaeologist into her Brita habits and Danielle once again becomes hot and breathless talking about aliens. Our entries cover even more ground: Steph remembers UConn parties (TW: mention of sexual assault), going on non date-dates with guy friends you're secretly crushing on, and her Evel Knievel-like driving maneuvers (sorry, moms). Danielle's entry touches on romanticized disordered eating, failing chemistry, the "Vote for the Worst" campaign that tried to bring down American Idol in 2007, and her first (recent) experience being completely confused by a new fashion trend. Things we mention: The Daily Beet (New Orleans) High Strange Harry Styles - Harry's House Radio Rental Lizzo Hot Ones  Love, Lizzo (Documentary) (HBO) Yes, You Can Get Pregnant by Aimee Raupp The Night Agent (Netflix)  Up Here (Hulu) You (Netflix) "Howard Stern Tries to Kill 'American Idol' With Kindness for a Weak Link" (NY Times, 2007) Sanjaya - "Ain't No Mountain High Enough"

  13. 32

    32 - It's Dark in Here!

This is an ep for the Gen Z'ers! We use the word "meta" at least twice (only once ironically), and Danielle shamelessly tries to gate-keep a true crime doc from Steph. Danielle tells us about her recent COVID/Paxlovid experience and Steph shares her review of Scream VI (no spoilers!). Our entries dive into Danielle's 2009 war she decided to rage against Nabisco for their 100-calorie snack packs and Steph laments the end of her Show Choir career (including forfeiture of the coveted pink tassel and 4-year trophy!).  Things we mention: Paxlovid Going West - Barbara Beach Hamburg // 289 Murder on Middle Beach (HBOmax) Scream VI Nickel Creek - Celebrants Oreo Cakesters

  14. 31

    31 - Pro Life Tips

Oh how far we've come with syncing up our audio! We start out strong this week by verbally describing a meme and the courtesy of downloading Tik Toks for non-Tik Tok friends. We discover the one single thing that Danielle & The Archaeologist have in common (spoiler alert: it's aliens). Steph fills us in on her TV-free month hiatus along with how to "edge" yourself on binge-worthy TV. We once again become fixated on The Used for, like, the fourth episode in a row and wonder about the expiration date on words like "techno" and "dope." Our entries take us back to 2006, where we both "livejournal" (it's a verb) our nights. Danielle has a couple teenage existential crises and Steph describes her cosmic Kyle connections.  Things we mention: Integratron History Magazine: UFOs and the Search for Alien Life Henry Hester (San Diego architect) Small Town Murder (podcast) - look for CT eps on Middletown, Guilford, Bantam, East Lyme, Stafford & Barkhamsted! cinder + salt The Used - Heartwork Day Club Palm Springs (Danielle accidentally called this "Day Trip" in the ep) Big Wild Scandipop (genre)  Saalt Period Underwear (use this link for $10 off!)

  15. 30

    30 - Episode Thursday!

We recorded this during the epic "winter" weather in Socal so we do the old lady thing and talk about the weather - mostly how CA people just don't "get it." We go down a brief rabbit hole of CT true crime and naturally transition to the 2000 boy band parody "2ge+her." For our entries, Danielle reminisces about that one relationship that made her realize she needed to set *some* kind of standards, while Steph's mom calls her off of work to go prom dress shopping. Also, that one time 20 years ago Steph attended a basketball game.   Things we mention: David's Tea (sweet potato pie tea!) 29 - It Burns!

This is a podcast..? We start today off talking about a little bit of this, a little bit of that: our recent and upcoming travels (including our Palm Springs trip together in May!), volunteering with old people in middle school, and the pain of simply standing during a concert in your 30s - all rounded out with a discussion of dopamine and pleasure-seeking behavior, naturally. Our entries dive into all of the nonsense that you've come to know and love, like Steph's first job (spoiler alert: her very first paycheck was $69.71), posers, and our obsession with sequential numbers. Also, Danielle has an egg-cellent story to share!    **We are 0 episodes Panera (and alien) free**   Things we mention: Integratron Pink Talking Fish Kalén & Rose Ye Ole Watering Hole Dopamine Nation: Finding Balance in the Age of Indulgence by Dr. Anna Lembke The Myth of Normal: Trauma, Illness, and Healing in a Toxic Culture by Dr. Gabor Maté Emily the Criminal (Netflix) How to boil eggs (you're welcome)

  17. 28

    28 - Oh So Convenient!

Filler ep time!! We took a break this week, but enjoy this bonus ep recorded live back in Oct '22 when Danielle visited Steph in CT. We spent an afternoon going through our "notebooks" which we used to pass notes (and our deepest secrets) back and forth during the school day and decided to hit "record" (luck you!). Listen in to hear our 15-year old ramblings surrounding 9/11, our Wiccan/born again Christian phases, and the emotional rollercoaster of being an early 2000s teen. We re-hash a nothing fight between us, Danielle teaches Steph how to lie to her mother so we can go to the mall, and Steph tries to set boundaries which Danielle immediately disregards. And Steph celebrates turning 13!!! Warning: There is alot of uncontrollable laugh/wheezing but if you can put up with it, these "notes" are definitely nostalgic! Also, we say "gay" in a derogatory way, but please remember we are reading entries from when we were 12-15 years old and we don't support the use of "gay" in such a way now.  *~W/B/A/S/A/P, LyLaS~*

  18. 27

    27 - Consistently Perfect

We are starting 2023 embracing our age! After a few minutes of warming up and talking about the weather and the Southwest Airlines fiasco of 2022, Danielle tells us about a fascinating article she read in AARP. Steph reminisces about the yesteryears of rock music and the vintage classic, "The Black Parade." Danielle takes us into an "entry-ception" in which her 36-year old self is reflecting on her 28-year-old self reflecting on her 21-year old-self and the first time she decided to quit drinking (spoiler alert: it didn't stick for another 3 years). We then turn it over to college-era Steph's collection of random thoughts over the course of a 2-hour audio theory class. We end talking about the ebb and flow of friendship - specifically ours, and give each other (and you, dear listener!) permission to forgive yourself for all the cringe-worthy shit you did 10 years ago. Statute of limitations, babyyy.    After-show note: We somehow get on the topic of baby ultrasounds in the 80s and get this: if you were born in the mid-80s, the TECHNOLOGY TO TELL THE SEX OF YOUR BABY DID NOT EXIST. We all just came in hot, surprising everyone. We are shook. Things we mention: "Unnatural Causes: The Texas Elder Murders" by Lise Olsen  The Perfect Scam (Podcast) Metal Lords (Netflix) Mr. Harrigan's Phone (Netflix) The Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (Netflix) My Chemical Romance - The Black Parade The Wayback Machine (Internet Archive) My Morning Soda (Danielle's sober blog)

26 - CATF Time Capsule: Cellphones

It's our first "Time Capsule" ep and we are sooooo excited! We decided to go back through some older episodes and select a few gold mines of nostalgia to do a real deep dive on. First up: cellphones! Danielle teaches Steph all about the evolution of mobile phones from 1983 to current day, car phones, T9 texting, ringtones, the most addictive games and - of course - how critical it was to customize your phone to represent you as a person.  Episode sources: Danielle's dad https://www.lifewire.com/definition-of-t9-predictive-text-578677 https://www.tigermobiles.com/evolution/ https://www.tampabay.com/archive/2001/12/17/ringtones-cell-phones-latest-tune/ https://www.wired.com/2014/11/we-loved-you-once-nokia/ https://www.nytimes.com/2001/06/28/technology/circuits/souping-up-the-cell-phone.html https://www.gameopedia.com/the-history-evolution-and-future-of-mobile-gaming https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-2000-aug-19-fi-7054-story.html https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motorola_bag_phone  https://www.ebay.com/itm/155277480632?hash=item24274252b8:g:uuIAAOSwq3ljgl7A

    25 - Un-Lost, AKA Found

We are here and we are Sunday chic! We start with a quick rundown of our latest beauty secrets, Steph's re-visit of the Webster Theatre, and our excitement over The Sick New World 2023 nu-metal fest. Steph also shares her interaction with a real life person who attended the When We Were Young Fest (and he has the hoodie to prove it!)! For our entries, we get into the complete normalcy of hours-long (illegal) music downloads, music department drama, and cringe-worthy assertions made by a virgin (you'll have to listen to see which one of us it was). We also cover Danielle's early aughts Christmas wish list, the advent of Nintendo Wii, and the complete awesomeness of choose-your-own-adventure books. Also, your burning desire to know how we divide the podcast labor is finally answered! Things we mention: Manifest (Netflix) Killer Sally (Netflix) Peripheral (Amazon Video) Quiet Part Loud (Spotify Audio Drama)

  21. 24

24 - Mushrooms: This is Their Time to Shine

It's Chillin - after work edition! We get right into it this week talking about our favorite beverages, including Danielle's very hip chagaccino and Steph's latest Immune-schein haul. Steph also shares her secret recipe for dirty shit water? We also try to catch up with one another about the random shows and books we try to watch "together" but quickly realize there are two kinds of people in this world: chronological watchers/readers, and Steph. We discuss the latest season of the Unsolved Mysteries re-boot and Steph's upcoming visit to a very important UM-related national landmark. Loosen up your belts because our entries will probably leave you feeling more bloated than Thanksgiving dinner: Danielle pontificates over the existence of "party mix" in 2004 and Steph describes her first binge drinking experience in 2005. 23 - Tri-fold and Grossly Distorted

We are back in our respective states (insert frowny bouncing cat head emot-con) and ready to dust more cobwebs off your millenial brains! We talk about the 5th grade smash hit series "Voyage of the Mimi" and Danielle's body-idolization of 2005 Jessica Alba from "Into the Blue." We have a stunning realization that pining over emotionally unavailable men (boys) is kind of Steph's "thing" and then Danielle regales us with her best Say Anything impersonation. 22 - AOL is Not a Hobby

Ummm we are recording LIVE, TOGETHER for this episode and it's soooo - awkward? We talk about all the fall things Danielle has been cramming into her weekend back in CT, like the Apple Fest, a Benjamin Franklin-themed corn maze, and stopping at our fave coffee shops. We also talk about CT's most eligible bachelor, "Columbiners" (it's a thing), VHS vs. TiVO vs. DVR, Mapquest and more.    Diving into our entries, Danielle is thrilled about a lot of things: finding disc 2 of her House Season 1 DVD set, her mom remembering to record her shows for her, and the "new" Panera opening up down the street. Steph goes on a Halloween joy ride with Greg - through Southington, New Haven, Meriden, the Berlin Turnpike and eventually landing at the Webster Theater - thanks to the lack of a GPS-capable phone (remember those?).   Things we mention: Pound Fitness Common Grounds Coffee Shop Lyman Orchard's Corn Maze @melonyinCT CT travel inspo@salty_walty CT's most eligible bachelor Morbid Podcast: The Almost Valentines Day Massacre with Jordan from Nighttime Podcast Nighttime Podcast: The Story of Lindsay Souvannarath (Ep. 1-8) Evil (Amazon Prime Video) Killer Triggers by Lt. 21 - An Autumn Tornado

This week, we are kicking ass and taking names, starting with who the HELL tore up Danielle's mom's garden. We touch upon the feud between Drake and famed YouTube music critic (and fellow WHS alum!) Anthony Fantano - yeah, we went to high school with that guy. We also agree that Steph's mom would definitely survive the FL snowbird Purge. The beef continues in our entries: Steph goes on to share about the time she "told off" multiple people in one day and Danielle defends herself against the world's first known incel who slid into her myspace DMs (looking at you, EriQ). We also re-visit what it meant to be straight-edge, going through different religious identities as a teen, and a New England winter so cold, it forced us to actually pay to get into a VFW show for once. 20 - Annual Anniversary

It's our one year podiversary AND twentieth episode! We celebrate by skipping the entries and instead diving into our high school yearbook.. Class of '04 YEAHH ( We are also celebrating the release of Adnan Sayed on the day of this recording (9/19/22) after 23 years of wrongful imprisonment and conviction. Adnan was just 17 years old - the age we were when we were voting for our favorite school lunch, debating the true winner of Battle of the Bands, and giddily signing each other's yearbooks - when he was sentenced to life plus thirty years back in 1999.  Things we mention: Serial, Season 1, Episode 1 (Podcast, 2014) Undisclosed: The State vs. Adnan Sayed (Podcast, 2015) Crime Junkie Podcast - ADNAN: What Serial Didn't Tell You (Podcast, 2018) The Case Against Adnan Sayed (HBO series, 2019) Emery - Rub Some Dirt on It (2022) Hot Mulligan - you'll be fine (2020)

19 - The Neo and Yellow Show

Just when we think we've dug up all the '00s memories, we go ahead and dive into an episode like this one! We start off reminiscing about the launch of Starbucks Via in '09, "Freaks and Geeks" and The Osbournes - the OG family reality show. In her entry, Danielle gets super excited over her new 20-inch TV and launches into a nostalgic journey of CD-R vs. CD-RWs, car CD players with removable faceplates and Lindt chocolates. Steph reads two entries, written literally one minute apart, and takes us on a real-time rollercoaster of teenage emotion, the intensity of young friendship and the origin story of people-pleasing tendencies. There is kind of a fun surprise during Steph's entry, so let us know what you think! Also, Danielle incorrectly calls the Punk Goes Pop album "Pop Goes Punk" about 300 times - we know now, so don't @ us bro. 18 - Audio Drama at the Fountain

Danielle is back from Colombia and we are ready to chill again! This is an ep of some serious nostalgia - we're talking Daria, Woodstock '99, the Empress Ballroom, 2006 MTV VMAs, and our favorite go-to comedy pages back in the day (Funny or Die, Ebaums World, College Humor). Danielle also gives a brief, unsolicited and completely un-fact checked Ted talk on the culture and history of Colombia. Steph plagiarizes yet another entry to tell us about scalping tickets from *the coolest* emo boys outside of TEB, and Danielle reminisces over a few entries from 16 years ago to the day. Did anyone else have a VW that smelled like melted crayons? Also, special thanks to our guest, Steph's neighbor's leaf blower.   Things we mention: Should Be Alive (podcast) Borrasca (Podcast/Audio Drama) Travel Journal by The Lamare Trainwreck (Netflix) The Sound of Things Falling by Juan Gabriel Vasquez (book) L.S. 17 - Remember Us (with Aaron!)

Welcome to our very first guest, Aaron, Danielle's husband's BFF and former emo kid - a truly rare breed in SoCal. We will not be reading entries in this episode in solidarity with Aaron, who was one of the many souls who lost their journals to the LJ Purge of 2007 (moment of silence). We start out with a discussion of the West Coast vs. East Coast high school experience - apparently the surfer lifestyle was a real thing beyond just wearing puca shells and Hollister tees? - and a fun connection/throwback from last ep about Trustkill Records. We also cover what we are currently watching and listening to and say a silent prayer that the Lizzbians don't @ us over Steph's commentary on her new album. We round it out with the evolution of our favorite computer and videogames in the 90s and beyond, Dungeons and Dragons, and the experience of a pet passing away (we are not sure how we got here either). And, of course, the glue that holds this show together: William Shatner and shoplifting.  Follow Aaron: @aaronhound Things we mention: American Horror Stories (Netflix) Stranger Things (Netflix) Umbrella Academy (Netflix) Lizzo - Special (2022) (Album) Maybe You Should Talk to Someone by Lori Gottlieb (Book) Nerd Poker (DnD Podcast) Us (2019) (Movie) Mythic Quest (TV Show)

16 - Can't Run From Me on These Cobblestone Streets

We aren't just chillin' today, we're also handing out life lessons! We're talking about the big stuff: wearing your seatbelt, getting past dating FOMO, and always, ALWAYS rinsing your quinoa. We also touch on some of our favorite breakup-revenge memories and have our first "Correspondence Corner" (wait, should we get a PO box?) where Danielle shares a post card that Steph sent her. And, just like every episode, Steph gets heated about William Shatner and Rescue 911.  Diving into our entries, Danielle shares a series of cryptic posts from 2005 which apparently changed the course of her entire life. Steph tries to pass off one of Danielle's entries as her own. We end with a typical tone-deaf story of us trolling Wolcott police with absolutely zero repercussions.  ....and FINALLY, there is context on our two recent instagram posts (Steph got a little excited and posted them early)! 15 - It's Ethical

We are Chillin' in the morning for this episode! We jump right in with weird childhood experiences that seemed normal at the time (we all have 'em!), millennial women's obsession with true crime and Danielle's Diva Cup Disaster. We only "dig" deeper when Steph shares her latest Archaeologist update (get it?) - totally unrelated of course, we talk about the absolute MINDFUCK of ethical non-monogamy. For our entries, we both tell the story of the same Municipal Stadium fireworks on July 4th, 2004 from two very different perspectives. Steph tells us about the time her VW Cabriolet got stolen and shares details of an epic WWF brawl she was involved in at a house party. Things We Mention/references: Saalt Menstrual CupKeep Sweet: Pray & ObeyInvisible MonstersLitReactor DISCLAIMER: We recorded this episode just prior to the overturning of Roe V. Wade, so please forgive any percieved insensitivity. It was completely unintentional and the result of terrible timing; however, decided to leave it in because we felt it was important to shine a light on the naivete of being "anti-abortion." More on this in Episode 16.

    14 - Campy Fun

14 - Campy Fun   Welcome to all of our new listeners - Ash finally has some friends! We talk about what it's like to finally share this pod with more people in our lives and spoiler alert - it's pretty terrifying. This is an episode of re-boots and throwbacks before we even get into the journal entries: Steph gives us an insider update on the Newbreed Girl hoodie re-launch and new Jurassic Park movie, Danielle shares about her experience at the BSB concert and looks forward to the My Chemical Romance comeback tour. We also dive into the phenomena of the cult classic The Room, TGIFridays and Chili's as the pinnacle of "going out," the ethics of partial stealing (it's just ONE tampon), Danielle's inexplicable foray into born-again Christianity and lastly, Steph's best Edgar Allen Poe impression (seriously, her post was kind of a downer). How abouuuuut this is one of our favorite episodes, like, ever? Done.   Things We Mention/references: Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Court TV Podcast Primeval - Rotten Tomatoes

    13 - A Creepy Misunderstanding

Hold on to your JNCOs - we're talkin' classic WB teen dramas, climate-control dads and sneak-watching our fave shows as kids (after 45 minutes of catching up on Steph's dating life and banter about our current favorite Netflix shows, of course). Our entries cover Danielle's Winamp playlist in 2004, Hometown/AOL websites, and Steph's impromptu high school reunion in a gas station parking lot...and a bonus history lesson about the Cold War & Disneyland, naturally. 12- Funny & Articulate

It must be springtime - Steph's rearranging her furniture!  This one is a rollercoaster of emotion! We come in hot, jumping right into the "No Zone," dating, and how everyone is so googleable these days. We also talk about Danielle's wedding but, more importantly, the 2002 themed party Steph just attended. Steph plays us a sample of the new MCR song and then we reminisce about the Presidential Fitness Test in school- sit and reach and cry, anyone? We also ponder The Ocean State, our favorite pastime of useless bargain hunting and the bizarre situation of college roommates. We end on a mashup of smalltown CT amusement parks and some of our favorite original "social" websites - how many will you remember?! 11 - His Name Was Crypt

This week, Steph tries her hand at writing the episode description.  We just got back from Danielle's bachelorette in New Orleans.  We chat about our time there, and our post NoLa road trip. Danielle reads us an entire url!  Steph shares her on-point British accent..  You'll swear Helena Bonham Carter is in the room!  While we're talking about reality TV, Danielle coins a new term; "micro-cults ™.  We talk about 5 Bands for 5 Bucks, reasons for sharing a stall with another girl, and Steph's Relient K origin story. Danielle rounds out the episode with a gem of a synonym. Sarah's TRL Archive Killers and Thrillers tour (ask for Joshua) (this was more challenging than I thought it would be…Thanks Danielle for being so eloquent!) **We are (finally) 0 episodes Relient K-free**

  35. 10

10 - It Was an Episode

Can you just hear how much prettier we sound using our new fancy ring lights? On this ep, we reminisce about the nostalgia of snow days and the youthful oblivion of cramming boy after boy into the friendzone without even realizing it. You can also listen in as Danielle slowly re-discovers WINAMP and Steph remembers a defining moment involving cream cheese. We end on a weirdly serious note about vulnerability and how it's evolved with technology. This one is chock full of both nonsense and hot takes - enjoy! TW: sexual assault (thanks, DeGrassi)

  36. 9

    9 - Everybody Tap Danced

We got new microphones! Unfortunately it turns out new equipment doesn't improve content, just sound quality. You're in for a ride: We're talking high school Battle of the Bands (including multiple mortifying moments for Steph), the "OK" symbol before it was racist and Michael Jackson before he was a pedo. An innocent game of LJ roulette turns deadly serious when Danielle unearths a private entry filled with her spite for Steph. Also, how a 4th grade Lenscrafters trip made Danielle not trust her mom. We end on kind of a gross note talking about math class body modification, piercings and gauged ears. Also, does tanning count as a new year's resolution?

  37. 8

    8 - Hidden Track

We are back on our bullshit toeing the line of being sued! Did you know Limp Bizkit has a new album out? We talk about our first screennames, AIM Express and BFF tough love. We also look at our 18 year old selves' constant attempts at turning our lives into movies. We end-ish on a sweet note, where Danielle shares an entry from a random current LJ used that generated on her homepage (@davesmusictank) and we reflect on how nothing can ever replace LJ as it was meant to be used. We end for real with a hidden track of sorts…..just don't fall asleep to this at 4am.

  38. 7

    7 - He's America's Dad

After a way-too-long discussion about Spanx and other terrible underwear, Danielle covers a normal weekend in the life of a 16 year old. We break down "Trench" (the bastardization of dodgeball invented by our hometown's schooling system) then get down to brass tacks and ponder important issues, like who named Wet Seal and is it named after the actual marine animal? We end with Steph's recollection of a The Early November and Less than Jake concert followed by a traumatizing event at our high school that neither of us actually remembers.

  39. 6

    6 - Digital Santa Legs

It's our holiday episode and we are getting Christmassy AF! Listen in as we read from our livejournals from Christmas 2002-2008, remember our Christmas sleepover tradition and go down a weird rabbit hole of our childhood toys (Squand and Gak, anyone?). We reflect on the time Steph got her first "celly," that year Danielle based her entire personality on the scent of grapefruit and we find a way bring up Lizzie McGuire on 2 separate occasions. We also end on a weirdly vulnerable moment that we decided not to cut.    Warning: this episode has a false ending, so light that Christmas candle, grab some hot cocoa and be prepared to stick around for the long haul.    **We are 0 episodes Relient-K free.**

  40. 5

5 - Spank My Bottom and Call Me George

Steph seduces us all with her sultry voice thanks to screaming her heart out at emo night at a local bar. We talk about the Wolcott Country Fair and - more importantly - break down the difference between a fair and a carnival. For the price of a 2021 iced coffee you could have a whole day of 2004 country fun! We also talk the Lions Club (Girl Scouts for old men?), frisbees, and that time Steph watched Danielle jump out of a bar window.  Enjoy the free ASMR of us typing and googling things. P.S. This one's for Dolores on Coe Rd.

  41. 4

    4 - Pathologically Cute

Steph surprises Danielle with an amazing story that involves a throwback clothing brand. We also talk about Danielle's shiny new role as the admin for our graduating high school class's Facebook group (which is still very weird for everyone). We end on a too-real recollection of rotten.com and the videos that still haunt us. PSA to our moms: skip this one.

  42. 3

    3 - Talking About Things

On this ep, we talk about things! We dig into shopping (ahh, the sweet, sweet smell of Hollister in the fall), sporting off-brand trends, and the obsession with having shoes and pants with handwriting all over them. We also spill the deets of the epic time capsule we made in middle school (and opened almost immediately), and introduce "The Notebook" (no, not that one). Lastly, we discuss how being an only child has left Steph ill prepared for hand-to-hand combat. Oh, and Steph's Relient K mention count: 2

  43. 2

    2 - Because Prom

Comin' at ya live from inside Danielle's mom's hoarder room! On our second ep, we talk about everything from tanning to T9 texting, drinking in the woods to weird things we collected (drip candles and ABC gum anyone?). Steph also finds a way to mention Relient K twice and her Skater Boy hoodie makes its second appearance. Can't-miss content includes a clarinet conspiracy, the curse of being an Only Child, screeching laughter and a hot tip for relieving itchy bug bites.

  44. 1

1 - "Speaking of the present instead of the past"

Welcome to the fountain! We hope you stay and chill for a bit. In this ep, we talk about the inspiration behind this pod and the history of our friendship. We also play a round of Livejournal Roulette and find out that Steph is really great at natural segues that aren't awkward at all. Lastly, we touch upon our mild case of high school kleptomania (sorry, moms). This episode definitely doesn't run on Dunkin - but it might run on DD. Are we sued yet?
