One of the Most Brilliant Minds in History Said THIS Before He Died
Chris is on pilgrimage in Toulouse, France, taking you straight to the tomb of St. Thomas Aquinas — one of the most brilliant minds in the history of the Church (and the world). Known as "the Dumb Ox" by classmates who mistook his quiet nature for dullness, Aquinas went on to write the 1.8-million-word Summa Theologica, showing that faith and reason aren't enemies but, as John Paul II said, "two wings of a bird that lift up the soul." But the real story isn't his brilliance — it's what he asked Jesus for at the end of his life, and why he stopped writing altogether. Find out what the smartest man in Church history figured out about the point of all knowledge. St. Thomas Aquinas, pray for us. Discussion Questions 1. Chris says knowledge is meant to lead us "to the threshold of relationship," the way courtship leads to a proposal. Can you think of a time in your own life when intellectual understanding eventually had to give way to a decision of trust or commitment? 2. St. Thomas Aquinas, after writing 1.8 million words about God, said his work "amounts to straw" compared to what he glimpsed of heaven. What do you think he meant by that, and does it change your view of his life's work? 3. Chris suggests that skeptics aren't necessarily smarter than believers — they may simply be afraid to surrender to what their own knowledge points toward. Do you agree or disagree, and why? 4. When Jesus offered Aquinas anything he desired, he asked only for more of Jesus himself rather than more knowledge or answers. If you were offered the same question today, what would your honest answer be? 5. St. Albert the Great predicted that the quiet "dumb ox" would one day be heard "throughout the entire world." Has someone ever underestimated you, or have you underestimated someone else, in a way that turned out to be very wrong? ----- Sign up for the Daily Anchor for free daily reflections from Chris Stefanick in your inbox: https://bit.ly/4tQCXtP ----- Join the mission to spread the joy of the Gospel! Feminism Robbed Women of This — Here's How to Get It Back
What does it really mean to be a woman—and why has no one taught us? In this episode of the Chris Stefanick Show, Chris sits down with January Donovan, founder of Catholic Feminine Formation, for a wide-ranging and deeply practical conversation about what's been lost—and what's possible when women are truly formed. January brings nearly 30 years of experience helping women live out their God-given genius, and she pulls no punches. She unpacks how feminism—despite some early goods it sought—ultimately robbed women of their femininity, their faith, and their family. And she makes a compelling case that the Church now has an unprecedented opportunity to offer the world something better: a new model of womanhood rooted in Our Lady. This conversation will challenge you, inspire you, and give you real, practical tools—whether you're a woman seeking to thrive, a husband who wants to better understand his wife, or a parish leader wondering how to serve your community more deeply. In this episode: – Why the "fragile femininity" of 150 years ago and today's "vicious feminism" are both failures—and what comes next – What John Paul II's "feminine genius" actually means in everyday life – The chaos of the busy household—and how formation changes everything about how you show up – Why 7% of communication is words, and what that means for how you love your family – The difference between faith formation and human formation—and why women need both – How a growth mindset is really just another word for humility – The New Woman Masterclass: a year-long formation journey for women in small groups – How to bring Catholic Feminine Formation to your parish HIGHLIGHTS 0:00 – Introduction: Catholic feminine formation—and why men need to watch too 8:00 – How feminism robbed women of their femininity, faith, and family 11:10 – "Fragile femininity" vs. "vicious feminism"—and the new model the world is hungry for 13:45 – What the feminine genius actually is: nurturing humanity to its greatness 19:00 – The chaos of the busy household—and the dozen skills a woman needs in that one moment 23:00 – Tone, body language, and why 93% of communication has nothing to do with words 29:30 – Growth mindset vs. fixed mindset—and why it's really about humility 34:00 – "You can't preach joy frowning": why your thriving is your evangelization 38:30 – Why the feminine genius can't be fully lived without the masculine genius 45:10 – The New Woman Masterclass: a year-long, small-group Catholic formation journey 51:40 – How to bring Catholic Feminine Formation to your parish ....... A 7-Year-Old's Heroism Will Convict You
What does it really mean to love Jesus more than your own life — and why does it actually make life better? In this Sunday Gospel reflection filmed at Fatima, Portugal, Chris Stefanick unpacks Jesus' provocative words: "If you love your father or mother or even your life more than me..." Far from being the words of a narcissist, this is either a claim to divinity — or the greatest red flag in history. There's no middle ground. Chris also tells the extraordinary story of St. Jacinta Marto, the seven-year-old visionary of Fatima who was thrown in jail, threatened with the torture and death of her brother, and still refused to deny what she had seen. Her response? She led a jail cell full of grown men in the rosary. What gave a seven-year-old that kind of heroism? She held her life lightly — and grabbed onto something eternal instead. This reflection is filmed on location at the very spot in Fatima where the angel first appeared to the three shepherd children. Discussion Questions 1. Jesus says we must love him more than father, mother, or our own life. What's your honest reaction to that demand — and what does it reveal about how you see Jesus? 2. Chris describes two ways of going through life: gripping your blessings tightly out of fear, or holding them lightly as gifts from God. Which mode do you find yourself in most often, and what drives that? 3. St. Jacinta was seven years old and showed more courage under pressure than most adults ever will. What do you think formed her? What are you doing — or could you do — to form that kind of faith in yourself or in the young people around you? 4. Chris connects "holding life lightly" not just to heroism but to enjoying life more. Has there been a moment in your own life when letting go of something actually freed you to appreciate it more? 5. The authorities in Portugal told the Fatima children to keep their faith out of public life. Chris responds: "How about you get your politics out of my faith?" Where do you feel pressure today to keep your faith private — and how does this Gospel speak to that? ----- Sign up for the Daily Anchor for free daily reflections from Chris Stefanick in your inbox: https://bit.ly/4tQCXtP ----- Join the mission to spread the joy of the Gospel! What Escaping a Cult Taught Me About God | Interview with Ex-Jehovah's Witness Dr. Cary
He was raised as a third-generation Jehovah's Witness, with his entire family inside the organization. His stepfather was an elder. Leaving meant losing everything — and he knew it from age 12. Today, Dr. Cary is a theology professor at Walsh University, and a devoted Catholic. And in this episode, he pulls back the curtain on everything. What do Jehovah's Witnesses actually believe about Jesus, the Holy Spirit, heaven, and hell? Why is it a cult — and how can you tell? What happens when you leave? And what should you say if one comes to your door? This is one of the most eye-opening conversations we've ever had on this show. In this episode: What Jehovah's Witnesses believe about Jesus (it's not what you'd expect) The 144,000 — and what they believe happens to everyone else How the organization uses isolation and shunning to control members What "PIMO" means — and why thousands are secretly trapped inside Practical tips for talking to a Jehovah's Witness at your door The moment at age 12 that started Dr. Cary's journey out How a funeral homily reignited his wife's faith — and changed his life The first Mass that broke him open and brought him home HIGHLIGHTS 0:00 — Introduction 2:00 — What Jehovah's Witnesses actually believe about Jesus, the Trinity, and the Holy Spirit 10:54 — What it's like growing up inside the organization: fear, conditional love, and a judgmental God 18:12 — Why Jehovah's Witnesses are a cult: isolation, shunning, and what happened when Dr. Cary left his family 23:20 — Leadership structure, the Governing Body, and the Watchtower Society explained 30:30 — What to say when a Jehovah's Witness comes to your door 38:39 — Dr. Cary's "Cornelius moment": the 12-year-old boy named John whose death changed everything 49:50 — Eight years of weekly invitations — and the Sunday Dr. Cary finally said yes to Mass ....... A Few Breaths: What Baby Margaret's Death Taught Me About Fear and Eternity
What if you've been afraid of the wrong things your whole life? This week's Gospel has Jesus telling his disciples — who would go on to die gruesome deaths for their faith — "Do not be afraid." But he also tells them there is one thing worth fearing: the one who can throw both body and soul into Gehenna. Chris reflects on this Gospel from a deeply personal place, sharing the story of little Margaret — a baby whose skull didn't form fully in the womb, who lived only a few breaths, and whose brief life and faithful family changed her doctor's entire approach to this kind of thing. From the vantage point of eternity, Chris asks: what are we actually protecting when we let fear run our lives? In this reflection, Chris unpacks: - Why Jesus tells us not to fear — and what he actually means by it - The one fear that is good and why we've stopped talking about it - How fear of hell can actually be a gift that keeps us on the right path - Why most of our fears are centered around "the breath" and not the billion years that follow - What it looks like to fear the right thing when it comes to sharing your faith Whether your life is 90 years or a few breaths, from the perspective of eternity, it all goes by in a flash. The question is: what are you doing with it — and what are you afraid of? DISCUSSION QUESTIONS 1. Jesus tells us not to fear those who can harm our bodies, but to fear the one who can throw body and soul into Gehenna. What does it look like practically to "fear the right thing" in your daily life? 2. Chris describes most of our fears as being centered around "the breath" — protecting our comfort, reputation, or earthly life — rather than the eternity that follows. Where do you see that pattern in your own life? 3. Chris shares that fear of sin was sometimes what kept him on the right path when love wasn't enough in a given moment of temptation. Have you ever experienced fear as a gift that moved you toward God? What happened? 4. The Gospel warns against denying Jesus before others out of fear of what they'll think. Is there an area of your life — a relationship, a workplace, a situation — where you've been staying quiet when you should speak? What's holding you back? 5. Little Margaret's brief life and her family's faithfulness moved even her doctor. How does the witness of people who face suffering with faith shape your own understanding of what life is for? ----- Sign up for the Daily Anchor for free daily reflections from Chris Stefanick in your inbox: https://bit.ly/4tQCXtP ----- Join the mission to spread the joy of the Gospel! The Miracle. The Process. And the 75,000 Person Event behind the Beatification of Fulton Sheen
Fulton Sheen is about to be beatified — and this episode is your inside look at everything. I sat down with Bishop Tylka, Bishop of Peoria and the man behind the beatification of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen, to dive into what this historic moment will look like, how we got here, and why it matters for the whole Church. We talk about the miracle that made it all possible — a baby born with no pulse who came back to life after 61 minutes, with no medical explanation. We walk through the entire beatification process, what happens inside a beatification Mass, and why Bishop Tylka believes God's timing in 2026 is no accident — America's bishop, beatified by the first American pope, during the 250th anniversary of the United States. We also get into how Fulton Sheen personally transformed Bishop Tylka's prayer life, what Sheen's legacy means for the Church today, and what you can expect if you attend the beatification at the Dome at America's Center in St. Louis on September 24, 2026 — where 75,000 Catholics will gather. Why the Church Celebrates a Heart (Not a Brain) | Sacred Heart Sunday Reflection
Every June, the Church celebrates the Sacred Heart of Jesus — and this Sunday's Gospel shows us Jesus moved with compassion for the crowds, like sheep without a shepherd. But why the heart? Why not the Sacred Intellect or the Sacred Will? In this Sunday reflection, Chris unpacks why the Church's devotion to the Sacred Heart isn't sentimentalism — it's a profound invitation to be fully human and fully alive. Drawing on C.S. Lewis's The Abolition of Man, the witness of the saints, and the emotional honesty of the Psalms, Chris makes the case that an "advanced" Christian isn't a detached academic — it's someone with head, gut, and chest. If you've ever been told your heartfelt worship was just "emotionalism," this one's for you. Chris is recording this from his driveway before heading to pilgrimage in Portugal — and he wants to bring YOUR prayer intentions with him to Fatima and Lourdes. Drop them in the comments below and he will personally bring them to those holy places. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS: 1. Have you ever dismissed your own emotions in your spiritual life — or been told that heartfelt worship was "just emotionalism"? How does the Church's celebration of the Sacred Heart challenge or affirm that experience? 2. C.S. Lewis describes "men without chests" as people who haven't formed their hearts. In your own life, which do you tend to neglect most — head (intellect), gut (will and virtue), or chest (heart)? What would it look like to grow in that area? 3. Jesus expressed a full range of emotions in the Gospels — compassion, grief, anger, joy. Which of those feels most surprising or meaningful to you, and why? 4. The Psalms model prayer as emotionally raw and honest — bringing everything to God, including anger and sorrow. How comfortable are you bringing your "messy" emotions into prayer? What holds you back, if anything? 5. Chris says the goal isn't to crush our emotions but to direct them — becoming "fully human, fully alive, and fully holy." Who is someone in your life (or among the saints) who you think embodies that wholeness? What do you admire about how they live? ----- Sign up for the Daily Anchor for free daily reflections from Chris Stefanick in your inbox: https://bit.ly/4tQCXtP ----- Join the mission to spread the joy of the Gospel! The 14 Stations of the Eucharist | Fr. Jonathan Meyer
What if everything you knew about Mass was only part of the story? Fr. Jonathan Meyer — priest, pastor, and author of 14 Stations of the Eucharist — joins Chris Stefanick for one of the most profound conversations about the Eucharist you'll ever hear. This isn't a dry theology lecture. This is the kind of conversation that changes how you walk into church on Sunday. Fr. Meyer breaks open the three dimensions of the Eucharist — communion, presence, and sacrifice — and explains why the third one, the one that hits you right in the gut, has been almost completely lost in recent decades. When you understand that the Mass is Calvary made present, everything changes: why you're there, what you bring, and what you leave with. They also walk through all 14 Stations of the Eucharist — from the sacrifice of Abel to the Wedding Feast of the Lamb — showing how the entire sweep of salvation history points to one thing: the sacrifice of Christ, made present for you, right now, at every Mass. This episode also covers: - Why separating body from blood at the consecration makes the Mass a sacrifice - What it means that you, as a baptized person, are also a priest - How to actually bring your struggles, your suffering, and the people you love into the Mass - Why the line for Mass intentions is drying up — and what recovering it would mean - The stunning typology of Abel, Abraham, Melchizedek, the Passover, and more - What "Behold the Lamb of God" is really announcing HIGHLIGHTS 0:00 — "Today we're going to change how you see the Mass" — and how you see yourself 3:30 — The three dimensions of the Eucharist: communion, presence, and sacrifice — and why sacrifice has been nearly forgotten 6:33 — Why Catholics can say the Mass is a sacrifice without saying Jesus is sacrificed again — and the stunning answer from Fr. Meyer 9:22 — Fr. Meyer gets visibly moved recalling the words of consecration: "This is my body given up for you" — what those words mean to him as a priest and as a man 17:07 — Fr. Meyer's personal story: he didn't know daily Mass existed until he decided to enter the seminary — and the moment he fell before the tabernacle and never doubted again 40:44 — A rapid-fire walkthrough of all 14 Stations of the Eucharist, from Abel's sacrifice to the Wedding Feast of the Lamb 58:59 — "If we understood this, we would bring everybody we know to holy Mass" — Fr. Lonely-Proofing Yourself and the World
"God so loved the world." That's not just a feel-good phrase — it's the perfect summary of who God is. And understanding it might be the key to fighting the loneliness epidemic tearing our culture apart. The Trinity — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — is a communion of persons. Three persons, one God. And because we are made in the image of that God, we are made for community. Loneliness isn't just emotionally painful. It's spiritually wrong. It goes against the grain of who and what we are. In this reflection, Chris unpacks: - Why the Trinity reveals that you were literally made for community - The stunning statistics behind America's loneliness crisis (and why Gen Z is the loneliest generation in history) - Why loneliness is more dangerous to your health than obesity - 5 practical, faith-rooted antidotes — from finding your "third space" to the one prayer that can change everything when you feel utterly alone Whether you're lonely yourself or want to be part of the solution, this reflection will challenge you and give you real hope. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS 1. The Trinity reveals that God himself is a communion of persons — not a solitary being. How does knowing that God is love (rather than merely has love) change the way you understand your own longing for connection? 2. Chris describes the loneliness epidemic as "a demonic attack on the image of God." Do you agree? Where do you see this playing out in your own community or family? 3. Studies show that weekly church attendance can add up to 14 years to your life expectancy. Beyond the statistics, what has your own experience of faith community meant to you — or what are you longing for that you haven't found yet? 4. Chris offers five antidotes to loneliness, including finding or creating a "third space," reaching out to someone lonelier than yourself, and inviting the Holy Spirit in. Which of these do you feel most called to act on this week — and what's one concrete step you could take? 5. Jesus promised his apostles they would not be left "orphaned" — and that the Holy Spirit would remain in them always. When do you find it hardest to believe you are never truly alone? Stop Protecting Your Kids From Everything — With Outdoor Adventurer Tom Zimmer
Safety first? Not so fast. In this episode, Chris sits down with Tom Zimmer — outdoor adventurer, professor at Wyoming Catholic College, and founder of CORE Expeditions — to explore why calculated risk isn't just healthy, it's necessary for raising saints. Tom leads seminarians, college students, and everyday people on grueling 21-day backpacking trips through the Wyoming wilderness — not to make them mountaineers, but to build grit, resilience, and the kind of boldness it takes to live the Catholic faith in a soft world. How to Become a River of Peace | Pentecost Sunday Reflection
Happy Pentecost Sunday! ️ Filming this one on the road in beautiful Stillwater, Minnesota — stopped by the river to talk about the Holy Spirit before heading to a REBOOT event in Wisconsin. And I have to say... it felt fitting. In this reflection, I share about a friend and mentor, Fr. Dave Pivonka — now President of Franciscan University of Steubenville — and the one word that has always described him, even as his responsibilities have grown: chill. Not because he's checked out. Because he's constantly calling on the Holy Spirit. That's what living in the Holy Spirit looks like. Not a shallow stream making a lot of noise. A deep river — powerful, moving, peaceful. We also look at St. Bede the Venerable, whose feast falls the day after Pentecost, and what he said about the dove as the perfect symbol for the Holy Spirit — and for us. Here's the challenge I give in this video: Look up the fruits of the Holy Spirit in Galatians 5 — love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, kindness, goodness, self-control — and honestly ask yourself: Do those words describe me? Not in the big battlefield moments. In the everyday ones. When you walk through the front door after work. When someone annoys you. When life is hard. Two simple steps to get there: - Pray constantly — "Come, Holy Spirit." - Get intentional about cooperating with that grace. Simple? Yes. Easy? No. But if you live that way, you will become a river of peace flowing through everyone you touch. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS 1. Chris describes a life in the Holy Spirit as a "deep river" — powerful but peaceful — as opposed to a shallow stream making a lot of noise. Where in your life do you feel more like a shallow stream than a deep river, and what do you think is driving that? 2. Fr. Dave prays "Come, Holy Spirit" hundreds of times a day as a simple, constant prayer throughout his work. Is there a short prayer you already return to during the day — or could you adopt one? What gets in the way of praying constantly? 3. St. Paul lists the fruits of the Holy Spirit as love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, kindness, goodness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22–23). Which of these fruits do you think is most visible in your life right now? Which one do you most need to grow in? 4. Chris distinguishes between stoicism (muscling up virtue by willpower alone) and quietism (passively waiting for God to do everything) — both extremes to avoid. How do you personally tend to lean? Do you rely too much on your own effort, or do you sometimes use "waiting on God" as an excuse for inaction? 5. The reflection ends with a very practical image: the way you walk through the front door after work, and what your face and body language communicate to your family. Where is one concrete, everyday situation — at home, at work, or in your community — where you could be more intentional about letting the fruits of the Holy Spirit show? ----- Sign up for the Daily Anchor for free daily reflections from Chris Stefanick in your inbox: https://bit.ly/4tQCXtP ----- Join the mission to spread the joy of the Gospel! Why Hating Your Worst Self Is Making Everything Worse | Dr. Peter Malinoski
What if the reason you keep struggling with the same sins, the same patterns, and the same emotional reactivity has nothing to do with a lack of willpower—and everything to do with a lack of interior integration? In this episode of The Chris Stefanick Show, Chris sits down with Catholic psychologist Dr. Peter Malinoski to unpack one of the most powerful—and underexplored—concepts in both psychology and Catholic tradition: interior integration. Dr. Malinoski explains what it means to be integrated, why St. Thomas Aquinas and the Desert Fathers were already talking about this centuries ago, and why modern Catholics have largely lost touch with it. He introduces Internal Family Systems (IFS)—a psychology framework rooted in the idea that we each have an "innermost self" and a multiplicity of inner "parts"—and shows how this maps beautifully onto Catholic anthropology and even the Trinity itself. This conversation will shake up the way you see yourself, your struggles, and your spiritual life. HIGHLIGHTS 1:50 — What is interior integration? Dr. Malinoski defines it—and traces it from Socrates to St. Thomas Aquinas to modern neurobiology 22:40 — St. Paul, Romans 7:15, and why willpower alone can't beat persistent sin 26:50 — What personality did Jesus have? Part of You Is Already in Heaven (The Ascension Changes Everything)
Ascension Sunday — What does it mean that Jesus ascended into heaven in a human body? More than you might think. In this week's Sunday Gospel reflection, Chris shares a deeply personal story about a miscarriage 17 years ago — and the surprising consolation that came with it: the realization that a part of his flesh was already on the other side, already with the Lord. That's not just his story. Because of the Ascension of our Lord, it's your story too. Jesus didn't just ascend as God. He ascended as fully God and fully man — which means our humanity, our full humanity, is now inserted into the very life of the Trinity. Not absorbed. Not dissolved. But there — a human being in the midst of heavenly glory. And here's what that means for you: wherever you are today — in grief, in longing, in a midlife crisis wondering why nothing ever fully satisfies — part of you has already made it. The head of the Body of Christ is already in glory, and where the head is, the body will follow. Watch this reflection and let the Ascension do what it was meant to do: change how you see absolutely everything. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS 1. Chris says the Ascension means "a part of our humanity is already in glory." How does understanding that Jesus ascended as fully human — not just divine — change the way you think about your own destiny? 2. Chris shares that the miscarriage, as painful as it was, gave him a consolation that made death "less scary." Have you ever experienced a moment of grief or loss that unexpectedly deepened your hope in heaven? What did that feel like? 3. Chris talks about the deep longing that no amount of success, adventure, or achievement can satisfy — and how this longing often leads to a "midlife crisis." Where do you feel that longing most in your own life? How does the Ascension speak to it? 4. The Church is the Body of Christ — and where the head goes, the body follows. What difference would it make in your daily life if you woke up each morning truly believing you are being pulled toward glory right now? 5. At the end of the video, Chris meets a woman who simply started a young adult group (now 30 people) and another who launched a women's Bible study with 110 attendees — just by doing it. Leading With the Heart in an Age of Selfishness | Tommy Spaulding
In this powerful new episode of The Chris Stefanick Show, I sit down with New York Times bestselling author Tommy Spaulding to talk about his book The Heart-Led Leader—and why the path to real success runs through your heart, not your ego. Tommy's story floored me. He was a severely dyslexic kid who was openly mocked by his classmates. He graduated at the bottom of his class. His own guidance counselor told him college wasn't for him. Today, he's one of the most sought-after leadership voices in the country, training CEOs of some of the biggest companies in the world. How did he get here? One word: love. Tommy shares jaw-dropping stories in this episode—like the bank CEO who walked out into 100-degree Georgia heat and personally delivered a truckload of seafood so a stranger wouldn't lose his job. That same CEO grew his bank from $220 million to $2.6 billion…by leading with love. We also talk about the daily practice Tommy calls his "influence audit"—a habit so powerful that I'm going to try it immediately. And if you're a parent, don't miss the part where he explains why his kids actually want to hang out with him as adults. (Hint: it's not an accident.) This one's packed with wisdom you can start applying tomorrow morning—whether you're running a company, raising kids, or just trying to be a better human. ....... You’ve Never Seen the Holy Spirit This Way (and It Can Change Your Life)
Jesus says something extraordinary in John 14: "If you love me, keep my commands. I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Paraclete to be with you forever." Most of us have heard that word — Paraclete — without ever really sitting with what it means. I guarantee that if you've been Catholic for 20, 40, even 90 years, you may have never heard it talked about quite this way. The word doesn't translate neatly into English. It can mean Advocate, Counselor, Comforter — but none of those words alone capture it. It's the one who comes alongside you. The one who coaches you, defends you, encourages you, and stirs you forward. Jesus isn't just sending a force or a feeling. He's sending a Person — the Holy Spirit — to be with you and in you. And then Jesus says this: "I will not leave you orphans." That's the promise. You are not navigating this life alone. The same Spirit that hovered over the waters at creation, the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead — that Spirit is available to you, right now, in the middle of your ordinary life. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS 1. Jesus says, "I will not leave you orphans." Where in your life right now do you most need to hear that promise — and believe it? 2. The word "Paraclete" means advocate, counselor, and one who comes alongside. How have you experienced the Holy Spirit in one of these roles, even if you didn't recognize it at the time? 3. Chris points out that most Catholics have never really heard the Holy Spirit talked about this way. Why do you think the Holy Spirit is so often the "forgotten" Person of the Trinity — and what would it look like to change that in your own life? 4. Jesus says the world "neither sees nor knows" the Spirit, but his followers do. What does it mean to you to be someone who knows the Holy Spirit? How does that change how you approach daily life? 5. The Holy Spirit advocates for us, encourages us, and stirs us forward — even when life is hard and exhausting. Can you think of a moment in your life when, looking back, you can see the Holy Spirit was doing exactly that? ----- Sign up for the Daily Anchor for free daily reflections from Chris Stefanick in your inbox: https://bit.ly/4tQCXtP ----- Join the mission to spread the joy of the Gospel! I Shared the Gospel with a Muslim in a Bathroom Stall and He Wept | Dave VanVickle
Buckle up — this episode is packed with jaw-dropping stories of conversion that will restore your faith in God's power and remind you that He is actively moving in the world right now. Dave VanVickle is a Catholic lay evangelist who has spent decades sharing the Gospel in every setting imaginable — from airport bathroom stalls to living rooms, from airplane seats to underground mission fields. In this conversation with Chris, Dave shares some of the most remarkable stories of grace you've ever heard, including: ✅ A devout Muslim man in the Chicago O'Hare airport who had been having dreams of a bloody man on a cross for a month — and followed Dave into a bathroom to ask him about Jesus ✅ A missionary in Africa who drove a truck full of Bibles into the middle of nowhere at God's direction, and watched hundreds of people emerge from the darkness one by one to receive them ✅ A Muslim woman on a plane who, while meditating on her own god, witnessed a vision of that god bowing before the Christ child ✅ A 16-year-old Muslim girl in Iraq who, after witnessing a Christian boy's martyrdom at the hands of ISIS, gave her life to Jesus on the spot — and refused to deny Him even to save her own life ✅ A trafficking survivor named Jane whose humanity was restored by the simple, unconditional love of Dave's family — especially his daughter Louisa. But this episode isn't just about extraordinary miracles. It's a challenge and a call: You can be used by God. All it takes is a willingness to pray, "Lord, if you open a door, I'll walk through it" — and the courage to say something, even imperfectly. Dave and Chris also unpack how to share the core Gospel message simply and confidently, how to invite someone to personally encounter Jesus (not just know about Him), and why Catholics need to stop skipping the first step of evangelization. The episode closes with a powerful prayer of surrender that you — and anyone you know — can pray right now. Practicing Heaven and a Prayer from Theo Von
What does Jesus mean when He says, "In my Father's house, there are many dwellings"? This week's Gospel (John 14) contains one of the most comforting — and surprisingly practical — promises Jesus ever made. And it has everything to do with how you live right now. In this Sunday Gospel reflection, Chris Stefanick unpacks the rich meaning behind Jesus' words — including the ancient Jewish wedding imagery that would have blown the minds of His first listeners — and shares three concrete ways you can start practicing heaven today. Plus: a viral prayer from comedian and podcaster Theo Von that captures something profound about radical honesty with God — and why it just might be the key to letting Him truly dwell with you. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS 1. Jesus describes heaven as a "dwelling with" rather than just a place. How does that image change the way you think about eternal life — and does it make it feel more or less intimidating? 2. Chris uses the image of a thimble versus an ocean to describe different capacities for God in heaven. Does that idea motivate you, challenge you, or concern you? Why? 3. Chris says our culture "celebrates busyness." Do you recognize that in your own life? What's one practical step you could take to practice simply being — with God, with yourself, or with the people you love? 4. Theo Von's prayer is marked by radical honesty — even admitting to God the ways he knows he's lying to Him. Is there a part of your heart or your life you tend to hide from God in prayer? What would it look like to invite Him into that part? 5. The Sabbath is described as a weekly rehearsal for heaven. How seriously do you take Sabbath rest? What would it mean for your family or your community to treat one day a week as a genuine practice of "just being"? ----- Sign up for the Daily Anchor for free daily reflections from Chris Stefanick in your inbox: https://bit.ly/4tQCXtP ----- Join the mission to spread the joy of the Gospel! Never Lose Hope for Your Kids | Gordy Demarais
What if the hardest moments of your life are exactly what God wants to use? In this episode of The Chris Stefanick Show, Chris sits down with Gordy Demarais—co-founder of St. Paul's Outreach and one of the founding figures behind NET Ministries—for a conversation packed with extraordinary stories of conversion, raw honesty about family struggle, and one of the most hope-filled messages you'll hear for parents of kids who have walked away from the faith. Gordy's story begins in tragedy: losing his father at 15, drifting from the faith, and spending a summer desperately searching for meaning. Then a chance encounter—and a youth center that was on fire for the gospel—changed everything. That same renewal sparked two of the most influential Catholic youth ministries in North America. But this conversation isn't just about ministry. Gordy opens up about the season when his own family hit a breaking point, what it looks like to love a child who is pulling away, and why the only thing that ultimately sustained him was trusting in a Father who loves our kids even more than we do. In this episode, we cover: -How Gordy lost his faith after his father's death—and how God found him anyway -The youth center in Minneapolis that sparked NET Ministries and St. Paul's Outreach -Why the Gospel is Good News, not good advice—and how that distinction changes everything -Wild, real-life stories of conversion happening today -What to do when your family is in crisis and you can't see a way out -How to stay connected to your kids when they seem unreachable -A message of unshakeable hope for every parent with a prodigal child "No matter how much we love our kids, they have a Father in heaven who loves them infinitely more than we do. Having No Arms Helped Me Embrace the Cross | John Foppe
John Foppe was born without arms — and he wouldn't have it any other way. In this powerful episode of The Chris Stefanick Show, John shares how a childhood of trauma, tough love, and feeling different led to a life-changing mission trip to Haiti, a career in corporate motivation under Zig Ziglar, and the founding of Friends of the Forgotten — an organization connecting adults with disabilities to institutionalized children in the developing world. John opened a can of Coke with his feet right in front of me. He eats salads with a fork. He's been traveling internationally by himself for 35 years. As he says, "there are no unsolvable problems." We go deep on embracing your cross, the lies that hold us back, the theology of presence, contemplative prayer, and why suffering isn't just redemptive—it's worship. This is the truth I think every single one of us needs to hear: your pain is not an accident. It's a feature. It's your connection to the crucified Christ. I asked John: if I could snap my fingers and give you arms, would you take them? His answer floored me. If you've ever felt disqualified, not enough, or like your pain has no purpose—this conversation will change that. Stop Trying to Figure it Out
There's an old Greek storytelling trick called Deus ex machina—"God from the machine." When the playwright wrote his characters into a corner he couldn't get them out of, he'd just lower a god onto the stage on a crane, and boom—everything's fixed. Aristotle called it lazy writing. But here's the thing: the Bible is full of Deus ex machina moments. Not because God is a bad writer—but because we tend to write ourselves into corners we can't get out of. That's exactly what was happening on the road to Emmaus. A couple (a lot of theologians think it was a married couple—Cleopas and his wife Mary) is walking home, devastated. They'd given up time, income, maybe everything, to follow Jesus. And now He was dead. Game over. They're walking home feeling like fools, talking and talking, their problem-solving brains spinning in circles. And right in the middle of that mess, the solution drops down and starts walking with them! The first people Jesus appeared to in the Gospel of Luke after the Resurrection weren't the apostles or the official leadership. It was a husband and wife in their lowest moment, unsure what to do with their lives. He loves you in that moment. Look, your brain is a beautiful problem-solving supercomputer. God gave it to you, so use it. But sometimes the most practical thing you can do in a crisis is stop trying to figure it out, get on your knees, and pray: Lord, I want the mind of Christ. Give me Your eyes to see this. Come, Lord Jesus. David slew Goliath with a sling and five smooth stones. Sometimes the biggest problems get knocked out by the simplest of solutions. Whatever you're carrying—invite Him in. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS1. When you face a problem or crisis, what's your default move—do you tend to think your way out of it, or do you bring it to the Lord first? Why? 2. The disciples on the road to Emmaus said, "We had hoped he was the one"—past tense. Have you ever experienced a moment when your hope in God felt like past tense? What did that feel like? 3. Chris suggests that Jesus often appears in our "low moments" rather than our high ones. Where in your life right now might Jesus be walking beside you that you haven't recognized yet? 4. The couple invited Jesus into their home. What would it look like, practically, to invite Jesus deeper into your home this week—your conversations, your routines, your relationships? 5. Is there a specific situation in your life where you need to stop trying to figure it out and pray instead? What's one concrete way you can "invite Him in" this week (e.g., a Rosary, a holy hour, prayer with your spouse)? -----Watch the episode on Divine Mercy with Fr. My father-in-law was just baptized at 85!
My father-in-law was just baptized. At 85 years old. Watch this week's reflection to hear the whole story—and why it matters for you right now. To watch a lifetime of questions, of searching, and of sin washed away in an instant? That is how powerful the love and mercy of God is. And that's what Divine Mercy Sunday is all about. Jesus told Saint Faustina that his mercy is like an ocean — and our trust is the bucket. The bigger the bucket, the more mercy we can receive. The only thing that limits God's mercy isn't the size of your sin. It's the size of your trust. I'm recording this from Hawaii, where my family is on a pilgrimage to beauty. My kids got to visit Kalaupapa — the remote peninsula on Molokai where people with leprosy were exiled in the 1800s. It was a place of total anarchy and misery. And guess who walked into the middle of it? The Catholic Church. Father Damien came from halfway around the world, and he didn't leave. He stayed. He held people's hands while they died. He built churches. He cut holes in the floor so the sick could stay at Mass without having to leave. He crawled under the building himself to clean it all out. And eventually, he contracted leprosy too. That's what divine mercy looks like when it has hands and feet. We're not just supposed to receive mercy. We're supposed to give it away. People are messy. Life is messy. But mercy says, "I see the mess, and I'm not running from it. I'm stepping right into it—for you." Jesus, we trust in you. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS1. Chris's father-in-law was baptized at 85 after a lifetime of searching. Is there someone in your life you've been praying for who seems "too far gone"? How does this story challenge that assumption? 2. Jesus told Saint Faustina that his mercy is like an ocean and our trust is the bucket. What makes it hard for you to trust in God's mercy—and what would it look like to "bring a bigger bucket"? 3. Father Damien didn't just serve the lepers from a distance—he lived among them and eventually became one of them. Where is God asking you to step into someone else's mess instead of keeping a comfortable distance? 4. Joseph Dutton was a broken man—a Civil War veteran, an alcoholic, divorced—and he gave his brokenness to God on Molokai. Have you ever felt disqualified from serving God because of your own failures? How does Dutton's story speak to that? 5. Chris says we're not just supposed to receive mercy but imitate it. What is one concrete way you can be an instrument of God's mercy to someone in your life this week? Interested in a pilgrimage to Kalaupapa in Molokai, Hawaii? Divine Mercy Sunday: What You Need to Know | Fr. Chris Alar
I'm going to be honest with you—you might be a little frustrated after watching this. But only because you didn't know it sooner. There is one day every year when Jesus promised that any Catholic who goes to confession and receives Holy Communion will receive the complete forgiveness of all sin and all punishment. Not just forgiveness. Complete wiping of the slate. Like a second baptism. That day is Divine Mercy Sunday—the Sunday after Easter. And in this episode of the Chris Stefanick Show, Fr. Chris Alar explains why this is quite possibly the most extraordinary grace available to us in the entire liturgical year. Here's the part that blew my mind: most of us know about plenary indulgences. But to receive one, you need to meet four conditions—including having zero attachment to sin, even venial sin. St. Philip Neri once said that out of 1,200 people in a cathedral, only two received the plenary indulgence. Divine Mercy Sunday's promise? Confession and Communion. That's it. No other conditions. Fr. Alar explained why Jesus was emphatic about this being on the eighth day of the Easter octave. To the Jews, eight symbolized eternity—the day the groom comes for his bride. Jesus is coming for you. And he wants to find you spotless. So here's what you do: ✅ Go to Confession sometime before Divine Mercy Sunday (even a week before counts) ✅ Receive Holy Communion at any Mass on that day ✅ Go back to your pew and pray: "Lord Jesus, you promised St. Faustina that the soul who goes to confession and receives Holy Communion on this day will receive the complete forgiveness of all sin and punishment. I have. Please give me this grace. Jesus, I trust in you." That's it. That's the whole thing. Remember—God's mercy is the ocean. Your trust is the bucket. Whatever feels hopeless in your life right now? It's a pebble tossed into that ocean. It's nothing. Jesus, I trust in you. The Shroud of Turin: 15 Facts Science Still Can't Explain
The Shroud of Turin is the most studied artifact in human history—and after hundreds of thousands of research hours across dozens of scientific disciplines, no one can explain it. In this special episode of the Chris Stefanick Show, I dive deep into the evidence that this ancient linen cloth is the burial—and resurrection—cloth of Jesus Christ. From the photographic negative hidden for centuries before photography existed, to the 3D holographic body data, to the 34 trillion watts of energy required to produce the image, I share 15 mind-blowing scientific facts about the shroud that point to its validity. Then I shift gears to discuss what the shroud reveals about the painful reality of Christ's Passion—over 700 distinct injuries, the brutality of the scourging, the crown of thorns that was actually a helmet, Jerusalem limestone on His nose from falling face-first, and the forensic evidence of both living and dead blood in exactly the right locations. This episode will give you a new understanding of what Christ suffered for us. Stop Giving Yourself a Free Pass | Palm Sunday Reflection
Every person who nailed Jesus to the cross thought they were a pretty good person. The soldiers? Just doing their job. The Pharisees? Protecting the system. Pontius Pilate? Just trying to keep his career on track. They all gave themselves a free pass. And we do the exact same thing. Listen to my Palm Sunday reflection to hear why that matters, and why it should change everything about how you enter Holy Week. When we read the Passion at Mass on Palm Sunday, we are forced to say the ugliest lines out loud—"Crucify him!"—because those aren't just ancient words. They're our words, every time we fall into sin. And I'm not saying this to make you feel bad. I'm saying it to make you feel grateful. Because when you see how ugly sin really is, you finally see how far God was willing to go for you. You couldn't pay the price for a single sin. He paid it all. As you enter into Holy Week, stop giving yourself free passes. Look your sin in the face. Take it to confession. And then look at the cross and say thank you. I'll be praying for you. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS1. Chris says every person involved in the crucifixion gave themselves a "free pass." Where in your own life are you most tempted to do the same — and what excuses do you tend to make? 2. How does the image of Mel Gibson's hand holding the hammer in The Passion of the Christ change the way you think about your personal responsibility for sin? 3. Chris describes people who "best life" themselves into destructive choices. Have you ever witnessed this in someone you care about? How did you respond — and how do you wish you had responded? 4. The reflection ends with three responses to the cross: gratitude, repentance, and forgiveness of others. Which of these three is hardest for you right now, and why? 5. Jesus didn't let what was done to him change who he was. Think of a situation where someone has hurt or wronged you. What would it look like to respond the way Jesus did — not letting their sin steal your peace, joy, or ability to love? -----Sign up for the Daily Anchor for free daily reflections from Chris Stefanick in your inbox:https://bit.ly/4tQCXtP -----Join the mission to spread the joy of the Gospel! The Science of Motivation and Doing What You Should | Dr. Tom Zimmer
Why can't you get yourself to do the things you know you should be doing? It's not a willpower problem. It's a motivation problem—and there's a science behind fixing it. In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Tom Zimmer, a PhD researcher specializing in the science of motivation and a professor at Wyoming Catholic College. Tom has spent years studying why people do what they do—and more importantly, how to change it. We go deep on the stuff that actually matters: how to motivate your kids to love the faith instead of just enduring it, why "good job" is killing your child's growth, the hidden reason boys are retreating into video games, and how the same motivational principles that apply to kayaking and skiing apply to your prayer life and your Lenten sacrifices. I'm already thinking about how I can talk to my own kids differently. There's a reason some kids grow up loving what their parents love—and it's not luck. Tom breaks it all down with practical tools you can start using today. Having Faith BEFORE the Miracle Happens
What do you do when God feels late? In this Sunday's powerful Gospel on the raising of Lazarus, we are invited into one of the most honest, raw moments in Scripture—when Martha looks at Jesus and says what we’ve all felt at some point: “Lord, if you had been here…” Ever been there? Watch this reflection that gets real about why it’s okay to bring your mess straight to God and how Jesus proves He has power over sin, suffering, and even death itself. But here's my biggest takeaway: Martha's faith wasn't just at the beginning when she asked Jesus for help, or at the end when Lazarus walked out of that tomb. She believed right in the middle—before the miracle, before the answer, while she was still upset and heartbroken. That's where most of us live. In the middle. And that's exactly where Jesus is asking: "Do you believe this?" Come to him as you are. Give him your whole messy heart. And trust him right in the middle. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS1. Martha told Jesus exactly how she felt — "Lord, if you had been here, my brother wouldn't have died." When have you felt like God showed up too late, and how did you express that to him? Is there something you need to bring to him honestly right now? 2. Chris talks about Martha having "faith in the middle" — believing before the miracle happened. Where in your life right now are you waiting in the middle, and what does it look like to trust God before you see the answer? 3. Chris shares how the words of absolution in confession felt almost too easy for the weight of what he was carrying — and then he looked at the cross. How does the reality of what Jesus did on the cross change the way you approach confession and God's mercy? 4. A religious sister told Chris that a message about loving yourself bothered her for five years before it transformed her life. Has there ever been a truth about your faith that initially stung or made you uncomfortable, but later became a turning point? 5. Chris says God is strong enough to take on all your messiness — that you don't need a "protocol" to come to him. What keeps you from bringing your real, unfiltered heart to God in prayer? What would it look like to drop the protocol this week? -----Sign up for the Daily Anchor for free daily reflections from Chris Stefanick in your inbox:https://bit.ly/4tQCXtP-----Join the mission to spread the joy of the Gospel! Who was the REAL St. Patrick? | A Kidnapped Slave Who Changed Ireland
Most people think St. Patrick's Day is about shamrocks and green beer. But who was the man behind the legend? In this interview with Eddie Cotter Jr., Catholic author, speaker, and founder of the Dead Theologians Society, we uncover the true story of St. Patrick beyond the legends. This episode is packed with inspiration for anyone who has ever felt unqualified by their weaknesses or wounds. St. Patrick was kidnapped as a teenager, dragged to Ireland as a slave, and spent six years in isolation — and that's exactly what made him one of the greatest missionaries in history. His wounds weren't disqualifiers. They were his training. He learned the language. He learned the culture. He loved the people. And then he went back—voluntarily—to the land of his captivity to bring them the faith. He felt unqualified. He felt uneducated. He said so himself. And yet he converted an entire nation. Your wounds might be the exact thing that God is using to prepare you for his glory. Even our darkest moments can become the beginning of our mission. Happy St. Patrick’s Day—and may his rugged faith inspire you to live yours boldly. The episode closes with Eddie reading St. Patrick's Lorica (Breastplate) — the prayer Patrick prayed daily for God's protection throughout his mission. God Is Not Punishing You (The Truth About Suffering)
Why does God allow suffering? It’s one of the deepest questions every human heart asks. When things fall apart—when illness hits, relationships break, or life throws unexpected curveballs—it’s natural to wonder: Did I do something wrong? Is God punishing me? The disciples asked Jesus the same question when they saw a man born blind: “Who sinned, this man or his parents?” Jesus’ answer changes everything. Suffering isn’t proof that God is angry, and it’s not karma keeping score. Instead, Jesus reveals a God who is a loving Father...one who can bring incredible good even out of pain. And the ultimate answer to suffering isn’t a philosophy. It’s the cross. God didn’t stay distant from our pain. He entered it. If you’re going through something hard right now, I hope this reflection will help you see suffering in a completely new light—and remind you that even in pain, God is working for your good. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS1. Chris talks about three ways people explain suffering: chance, karma, or God bringing good from it. Which of these explanations do you see most often in the world today?2. The disciples asked Jesus, “Who sinned, this man or his parents?” Why do you think we instinctively assume suffering must be someone’s fault?3. Jeremy Rivera's Journey From Evangelical Pastor to Catholic
Jeremy Rivera was an evangelical pastor who was convinced Catholics didn't really know Jesus. Then he became one. In this new episode, Jeremy shares how honest conversations about authority, Mary, and the Eucharist led him back to the Catholic Church—and why true renewal begins with a personal encounter with Jesus Christ. His journey to the Catholic Church didn't start with theology—it started in the shower on Christmas Eve, 1985, when a 10-year-old boy cried out to God in the middle of his parents' divorce and felt the Holy Spirit show up. His mom, sensing something had happened, pulled a handmade Italian crucifix from under the bed—a Christmas gift she wasn't going to give until morning—and handed it to him on the spot. That crucifix is still in his kitchen today. But the road from that moment to the Catholic Church was anything but straight. We unpack Jeremy's winding journey: losing his faith in college, a crisis pregnancy and abortion that brought him to his knees, and the theological questions that nearly kept him from ever becoming Catholic. We also discuss what the Church gets wrong about evangelization, why most Catholics have never been "ambushed by Jesus," and how an unexpected encounter with the scent of roses in a FOCUS chapel broke through his deepest resistance—Mary. Whether you're a cradle Catholic, a skeptic, or somewhere in between, this conversation will challenge and encourage you. Why God Isn't Shocked By Your Sin | Woman at the Well Reflection
You are not too much for God. In this Gospel reflection, we dive into one of the most powerful encounters in all of Scripture: Jesus and the woman at the well. At first glance, it looks like a simple conversation about water—but it’s actually a moment that reveals something shocking about God’s heart. Jesus meets a woman who is hiding in shame, avoiding people, and trying to bury her past. She comes to the well at midday, the hottest part of the day, just so she won’t have to face anyone. But that’s exactly where Jesus meets her. And when he reveals that he knows everything about her life—her mistakes, her relationships, her mess—something unexpected happens. She doesn’t run. Why? Because for the first time, someone sees her completely…and doesn’t flinch. And it wrecked her in the best possible way. She went right back to that village she'd been hiding from and started telling everyone. This Gospel shows us something incredible: God isn’t shocked by your past. He isn’t overwhelmed by your struggles. He already knows everything—and he still chooses to sit with you, love you, and invite you deeper. Even more powerful: the thing she was most ashamed of becomes the very thing that turns into her testimony. If you’ve ever felt like your life is too messy for God, this reflection is for you. Go to Him. With all of it. Watch Him not run. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS1. The woman at the well avoided the crowd out of shame. Is there an area of your life you've been keeping hidden — even from God? What would it look like to bring it to him? 2. Chris reflects on the Catechism's line that prayer is "an encounter of God's thirst with ours" — that God thirsts for us to thirst for him. How does that reframe the way you think about prayer? 3. Every nudge to pray, every impulse to go to church — Chris says that's God thinking of you first. Has there been a moment in your life where that rings true? What happened when you responded (or didn't)? 4. Jesus named the woman's sin openly, and the conversation didn't end — it deepened. What does that tell us about how God sees us? How does it challenge the way we see ourselves? 5. The woman's greatest shame became her testimony — she ran back to the village and told everyone. Is there something in your own story of failure or struggle that God might want to use for his glory? -----Sign up for the Daily Anchor for free daily reflections from Chris Stefanick in your inbox:https://bit.ly/4tQCXtP -----Join the mission to spread the joy of the Gospel! 80% of Deaths By Suicide Are Men. What Can We Do? | Dr. Alexandria Coursol
80% of deaths by suicide in the U.S. are men. Men account for over 90% of the prison population, and 149 of the last 155 mass shootings were carried out by men alone. But men are nearly half as likely as women to seek mental health treatment. So what's going on? There's a male mental health collapse happening right now. What can we actually do about it? In this important episode of the Chris Stefanick Show, I sit down with Dr. Alexandria Coursol, a psychologist who wrote her doctoral dissertation on masculinity, to unpack the roots of this crisis—and more importantly, a way forward. We discuss the concept of "feminine privilege" (it's not what you think), why the patriarchy actually harmed men, how society trained men to suppress emotion and externalize their pain, and why Jesus might be the greatest model of healthy masculinity who ever lived. Whether you're raising sons, loving a husband, or sitting in the struggle yourself, don't miss this conversation. The Plan I Wanted vs. The Plan God Had
Have you ever looked at your life and thought, “Lord…this is not what I signed up for”? The apostles did. When Jesus told them He would suffer and die, Peter literally rebuked Him. That wasn’t the plan. They thought they were following a conquering king—not a suffering servant. And yet… just days later, Jesus takes them up a mountain and reveals His glory in the Transfiguration. But here’s the wild part: The Transfiguration wasn’t a preview of the future. It was a revelation of what was already there, hidden beneath the ordinary. In this Sunday Reflection, I talk about: • Why your vocation will exhaust you • How marriage exposes (and heals) your wounds • Why parenting demolishes your ideals • The glory hidden in suffering • And why the cross you didn’t choose may be better than the life you would have designed If you’re in a season that feels harder than you expected, this one’s for you. Jesus didn’t promise a pain-free life. He promised resurrection. Push through the hard times and you'll find God's glory...in both the struggle and the outcome. -----Sign up for the Daily Anchor for free daily reflections from Chris Stefanick in your inbox:https://bit.ly/4tQCXtP -----Join the mission to spread the joy of the Gospel! From Losing a Child to Helping 60,000 Grieving Families | Mark Tripodi
Grief can destroy everything—your marriage, your faith, your identity. But what if God can use the worst thing that ever happened to you to build something beautiful? In this powerful episode, Chris sits down with Mark Tripodi, who lost his 3-year-old son Bobby to bacterial meningitis 25 years ago. Mark shares the raw, real story of how that tragedy shattered his life—and how an encounter with God at his son's grave at midnight changed everything. Mark and his wife Christy went from "checking the box" Catholics to founding Cornerstone of Hope, a grief support ministry that has served over 60,000 people. In this conversation, Mark shares the roadmap through grief, why the sacraments sustained him, and what God whispered to him in his darkest moment. Take Back Your Identity
Who told you who you are? Because if it’s not God…you’ve been listening to the wrong voice. The devil has a very thin playbook. His first move? Attack your identity. He did it in Genesis. He tried it on Jesus in the desert—every single temptation starting with the words, "If you are the Son of God..." He was trying to shake Jesus' sense of who he was. Because here's the thing: as we see ourselves, so we feel. So we act. So our entire life pans out. If he gets your identity, he gets everything. And he tries it with you. Through your worst sins — making you think you are the thing you did. Through the voices of people who were supposed to love you better than they did. Through tragedies that leave you convinced the joys of life just aren't for you. Here's my question for you this Lent: Who —or what—have you given permission to name you? Your bank account? Your worst mistake? What someone said about you years ago? Take that permission back. Give it to Almighty God. Do what Jesus did in the desert: talk back. Preach the truth of who you are. You are a beloved child of Almighty God. And from the cross, he looks at you and says: You are worth dying for. Claim that. Live from it. -----Sign up for the Daily Anchor for free daily reflections from Chris Stefanick in your inbox:https://bit.ly/48Xfhfk -----Join the mission to spread the joy of the Gospel! How An Atheist Reasoned Her Way to God | Leah Libresco Sargeant
From hardcore atheist to Catholic convert—author Leah Libresco Sargeant's journey is a story of intellectual rigor leading to faith. In this powerful conversation, Leah explains how a math nerd intentionally raised as an atheist by her university professor parents discovered that moral truth points to God, why her atheism couldn't withstand philosophical scrutiny, and how to build authentic Catholic culture in your own home. Leah shares how she believed in objective morality the same way she believed in mathematics—as something real, transcendent, and independent of human opinion. She explains how her rigorous pursuit of truth created cracks in her atheist worldview at Yale, and why following the philosophical evidence led her to become Catholic. In the second half, she offers practical wisdom on how to actually build Catholic community in your own life...without being performative or Instagram-ready. She talks about hosting "liturgical season poetry parties," why small talk is the enemy of real friendship, and how your home doesn't need to look perfect to be a place where God shows up. If you're trying to defend your faith intellectually, wondering how reason can lead to God, or know someone who's intellectually opposed to the Church, this conversation will bring you hope! Jesus Didn't Abolish the Rules...He Raised the Bar
A lot of people think Jesus was anti-rules. He hated the Pharisees, dined with sinners—so He must be cool with whatever we want to do, right? In this Sunday's Gospel, Jesus says something that should stop us in our tracks: "Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets." And then He doesn't just uphold the moral law—He raises the bar. In this reflection, I dive into the difference between legalism and the moral law, why God's rules aren't arbitrary (they're more like the laws of gravity), and what Jesus actually wants from us: not behavior modification, but a complete transformation of the heart. The gift of love is free—you can't earn it. But love costs you literally everything. And as any lover knows, it's totally worth the price. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS1. Do you ever catch yourself treating your faith more like a checklist than a relationship? What does that look like in your life?2. What is the difference between legalism and following God's moral laws out of love? How can you tell which one is driving your obedience?3. Chris says God's moral laws are like the laws of gravity—"you don't break them, they break you." How have you experienced this to be true?4. Is there an area of your life where you’ve assumed, “God’s cool with it”?5. Your Faithfulness Is Changing the World (even from your living room)
Jesus said, "You are the salt of the earth. You are the light of the world." And if you're like most of us, you hear that and think, "Jesus, I love you, but... really? I'm just trying to keep my kids alive today. I'm the light of my living room on a good day. That's about it." Here's the truth: When you're faithful right where you are—in that living room, at that job, with that one person in front of you—you ARE changing the world. You just can't see it yet. Look at the Gospels. Jesus didn't spend His time chasing massive crowds. Most of His ministry was small encounters with individuals. One conversation at a time. That's how the world actually gets changed. The problem is we think so big that we miss what God's calling us to do right under our noses. We obsess over global problems we can't control while ignoring the person right in front of us who desperately needs our love. Mother Teresa showed up late to a global hunger summit because she stopped to feed one dying man outside the door. Everyone else had walked right past him. Jan Tyranowski lived under Nazi and then Communist oppression in Poland. What could one guy possibly do? He started a Catholic small group. He poured his life into a handful of young men. One of them became Pope John Paul II, who helped topple communism in Eastern Europe. Jan never saw it. But he was faithful anyway. Whatever you're doing today, whoever God has put in front of you—even if no one else sees it—He does. Do it well...and see what happens. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS1. When you hear "You are the light of the world," what's your honest first reaction? Do you believe Jesus when He says this to you? 2. How does focusing on "big impact" cause us to miss the people and opportunities right in front of us? 3. Think about Jan Tyranowski's story. What "small" faithfulness is God calling you to that might have ripple effects you'll never see in your lifetime? 4. In what ways does our culture's obsession with metrics, followers, and "influence" distort our understanding of what it means to change the world? 5. What's one specific way you can be "the light of your living room" this week—faithful to the small encounters God has placed right in front of you? -----Sign up for the Daily Anchor for free daily reflections from Chris Stefanick in your inbox:https://bit.ly/48Xfhfk -----Join the mission to spread the joy of the Gospel! Why Criminals Confess (and you should, too) | Police Detective Jeff Wrigley
Why would anyone confess to a crime when they have the right to remain silent? Former K-9 officer and white-collar detective Jeff Wrigley has spent years in the room where criminals confess—and he's discovered something shocking: most of them feel RELIEF when they finally tell the truth. In this eye-opening conversation, Jeff reveals why guilt and shame work like a "boa constrictor" that squeezes tighter every day, why the interrogation room and the confessional aren't that different, and what physically happens when someone finally comes clean. We also dive into Jeff's powerful conversion story (including his first confession in a police cruiser), why shame makes kids hide instead of heal, and the one phrase every parent needs when their kid messes up. This conversation will change how you think about confession—both the sacrament and the human need to be known and loved anyway. How God Meets You At Your Breaking Point
What do you do when everything just becomes too much? This Sunday Reflection is deeply personal, as lately God has been bringing me right up to the edge of my own strength—physically, emotionally, spiritually. In prayer, I was reminded of something we all need to remember when we reach our breaking point: You were never meant to be your own source. We’re all afraid of running out—of energy, money, patience, creativity, love. As we get older, that fear can quietly run our lives. But Jesus offers a radically different way: trusting God as an infinite storehouse. In this reflection, I talk about: The fear of “running out” and how it shapes our stress Why self-reliance eventually makes us miserable What Jesus really means by “Blessed are the poor in spirit” How trusting God sets you free from burnout and anxiety If you’re exhausted, overwhelmed, or feeling like you just don’t have it in you right now—I hope this video brings you some peace. You’re not running out. You just need to remember where the supply really comes from. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS Can you identify a moment in your life when you hit a breaking point? How did God show up — or how did you wish He had? Where in your life do you most fear “running out” right now? When you feel overwhelmed, do you tend to withdraw, overwork, or lash out? How does self-reliance show up in your stress, anxiety, or relationships? How would your daily decisions change if you truly believed God is your infinite storehouse? What’s one concrete way you can surrender control to God this week? ----- Sign up for the Daily Anchor for free daily reflections from Chris Stefanick in your inbox: https://bit.ly/48Xfhfk ----- Join the mission to spread the joy of the Gospel! These Things Drive Priests Crazy with Fr. Leo Patalinghug
You probably have a litany of complaints about your priest. But what does your priest think about YOU? In this episode, I sat down with Fr. Leo Patalinghug (yes, the priest who beat Bobby Flay), and I gave him permission to unload. This priest chef turns the tables to serve up an honest assessment of the parishioner behaviors that drain the life out of priests...and how we can do better at bringing our best to Mass and Confession. And, honestly...we need to hear this! Our conversation is authentic, funny, and convicting as Fr. Leo reflects on his 25 years of priesthood and parish ministry to offer solid advice on how to further engage at Mass and use the sacrament of Confession for its intended purpose of both absolving your sins and healing your mind and heart. He shares some funny stories along the way about people using the confessional as a counseling session or confessing other people's sins and not their own, those who don't pray along audibly at Mass, and his impression of the face that so many people in the pews are making while lifelessly staring back at him during Mass. (Don't miss it! ) He also offers sound reasons for WHY we should care about the way we confess our sins and our approach to attending Mass. He has some beautiful thoughts on God's mercy, the seal of Confession, and showing respect to the Lord by fully immersing ourselves in the liturgy. Let's continue to pray for our priests who have given their lives to serve the Body of Christ. And let's use Fr. Leo's tips to renew our approach to the sacraments and fully embrace God's love and mercy. Feeling Small? Here's What God Thinks of You
Have you ever felt small? Like just one person among nearly 8 billion—how could you possibly matter? That's no doubt how the apostles felt...fishermen of little consequence by the world's standards. Until Jesus called them by using a phrase that rabbis would use to call specially gifted students: "Come follow me." They were hearing something they'd dreamt of their whole lives—something they thought had passed them by. That's why they dropped everything instantly. They mattered to Jesus. And so do you. God’s attention isn’t divided. He’s infinite. Which means He gives you His full, undivided love—right now...and he's calling you the same way: "Come follow me." In those small-feeling moments, remember that God is perpetually pouring His grace over you. Sometimes we forget that God is there loving us, but He never forgets about us. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS 1. When do you most struggle with feeling insignificant or unseen? What triggers those thoughts? 2. How does the idea that God gives infinite attention to each person change the way you see your relationship with Him? 3. What would it look like for you to truly believe that God is calling you personally—not just Christians in general? 4. Are there moments in your life when you felt like God's call to you was clear? What were you called to and how did you respond? 5. What is one concrete way you can respond to God's call this week? ----- Sign up for the Daily Anchor for free daily reflections from Chris Stefanick in your inbox: https://bit.ly/48Xfhfk ----- Join the mission to spread the joy of the Gospel! What the Catholic Church REALLY Says About Suicide | Fr. Chris Alar
Suicide rates are rising—and almost all of us have been touched by it. If you’ve ever wondered “What happens to someone who dies by suicide?” or felt crushed by fear, guilt, or unanswered questions, this episode will bring you real hope. I sit down with Fr. Chris Alar, author of After Suicide, to unpack what the Catholic Church actually teaches: why suicide is grave matter, why that does not automatically mean someone is damned, and how God can work mercy in ways we can’t see. Our conversation also touches briefly on the lie behind assisted suicide and Fr. Chris tells a beautiful story that explains the power of offering up your suffering as a prayer for the living and those who have died. We also talk about practical warning signs and what to do when someone is struggling with suicidal ideation. If you’ve lost someone, love someone who’s struggling, or you’re carrying silent pain yourself—this conversation is for you. God's mercy is real—and it's powerful beyond our human comprehension. Lessons in Joy from a Child's Funeral
I recently had the honor of being at the funeral of Micah Kim, the five-year-old son of my friend Paul J. Kim. And I don’t use the word honor lightly. Because while the pain of losing a child is unimaginable…what I witnessed there was just as unimaginable: JOY. At Micah’s wake, Paul stood next to his son’s casket—his little body dressed in cowboy boots—and he pointed and said: “That’s my son’s body. He’s not there. My son is alive.” Paul said they gave Micah the greatest gift a parent can give: baptism. His passport to heaven. And then I watched this family walk down the aisle behind the casket—hands on it, tears streaming down Paul’s face—and his other hand lifted high in praise as we sang Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing. Listen to my reflection to hear how Paul's witness of joy in the face of tragedy and Micah's brief life are both tied to the truth of our baptism—that we are beloved children of God and he wants us to live forever with him. In baptism, we are sealed in this identity and receive our ticket to heaven. We just need to lean into his love and let his grace transform our lives. Our days here are numbered. But heaven is real, it lasts forever, and you don't need to prove yourself to earn God's love. Receive it! Follow Paul J. Kim on Instagram to see how God is already using Micah for his glory: https://www.instagram.com/heypjk DISCUSSION QUESTIONS 1. Have you ever witnessed faith lived out powerfully in the middle of suffering? What impact did it have on you? 2. Do you think our culture understands joy the way Christianity does? Why or why not? How does the Christian understanding of hope differ from simply “staying positive”? 3. Does your baptism shape your identity? What does it mean to you that, at baptism, the Father looks at you and says, “That’s my son. That’s my daughter”? 4. Where in your life do you find yourself trying to earn God's love or prove your worth? How can you work against that mindset? 5. What can you do this week to live like holiness is your top priority? You’re Not Abandoned in the Hardest Moments
When most people think about where God is, they look to the sky or point to a mountaintop. God is ON HIGH, right? But the reality of the incarnation flips that vision upside down. Christ dwelt among us. God came to the lowest of places to meet us in our brokenness and heal our sin. Did you know the spot where Jesus was baptized in the Jordan River is literally one of the lowest places on earth? That can't be an accident. It reminds us that even when we are at our lowest point—a medical diagnosis, marital issues, problems with our children, job loss—God is right there alongside us. He doesn't want us to walk these trials alone. Hear the words God spoke at Christ's baptism. They are meant for you, too: “You are my beloved son… you are my beloved daughter… with whom I am well pleased.” If you find yourself in a low place right now, take it to the Lord. He's already there next to you. ----- Sign up for the Daily Anchor for free daily reflections from Chris Stefanick in your inbox: https://bit.ly/48Xfhfk ----- Join the mission to spread the joy of the Gospel! God is Hiding in Plain Sight | Reflection on the Epiphany of the Lord
Have you ever noticed that when God shows up, he often does so in ways that are...completely ordinary? Think about the Epiphany of the Lord that we are celebrating today. Angels fill the sky. A star bends the universe. Heaven breaks into earth. Kings come to pay homage. And at the center of it all? A poor child. A nursing mother. A scene you could walk right past. Fast forward two thousand years and God is still so often hiding His glory in plain sight, but we've lost the ability to contemplate and truly SEE him in the ordinariness of the world around us. God made Himself small—so ordinary that only the humble can see Him. And that’s exactly why so many of us miss Him. We’ve trained ourselves to scroll past miracles. To numb ourselves when big questions stir in our souls. To distract instead of contemplate. And in doing that, we don’t just lose silence—we lose wonder. As we enter the new year, let's cultivate a contemplative heart that recognizes Jesus in the bread and the wine...and in our spouse, family, friends, and coworkers. When you become humble enough to see God in the ordinary, life becomes a constant epiphany. ----- Sign up for the Daily Anchor for free daily reflections from Chris Stefanick in your inbox: https://bit.ly/48Xfhfk ----- Join the mission to spread the joy of the Gospel! Surviving Your Current Chaos with Confidence
Happy Feast of the Holy Family! One of the most comforting truths of our faith is also one of the hardest to live. You’re not living the whole story — you’re living your current page. One of the most powerful (and overlooked) truths of the Bible is typology—the way God weaves the same story across centuries, fulfilling promises in ways no human author could plan. Different people. Different centuries. Same Author. In this reflection, we look at the stunning parallels between Joseph in the Old Testament and St. Joseph in the New, and what they reveal about suffering, trust, and God’s plan. Old Testament Joseph didn’t get to see the whole picture. He only saw the chaos of the page he was on—betrayal, exile, fear, uncertainty. And yet, he lived with peace because he trusted the Author...and look what happened thousands of years later! Prophecies fulfilled. A Savior born in a manger. And another Joseph managing the chaos of his current page while trusting in the larger story. If you’re walking through illness, family struggles, anxiety, grief, or confusion…this message is for you. This can be especially difficult to remember during the holidays, but your pain isn’t your story. It’s one page in a much bigger one that is unfolding according to divine plans we may not understand in our lifetime. I hope this reflection puts you on the path to accept the peace that both Josephs found amidst chaos—by trusting in the love of the Lord who knows the glorious ending of your story. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS 1. Chris talks about “the chaos of the page you’re on.” What does that phrase bring up for you right now? 2. Can you think of a time in your life when something that felt chaotic later made sense in hindsight? 3. Where do you struggle most to trust God when you don’t understand what He’s doing? 4. The Holy Family experienced fear, displacement, stress, and uncertainty, but had confidence in God's ultimate plan. How does that change the way you think about holiness in family life? What would it look like to invite God’s peace into the “chaos” of your own family? 5. What “page” of your story are you living right now? (Illness, transition, joy, stress, grief, growth, confusion, etc.) How might remembering that this is not the whole story change the way you face it? ----- Sign up for the Daily Anchor for free daily reflections from Chris Stefanick in your inbox: https://bit.ly/48Xfhfk ----- Join the mission to spread the joy of the Gospel! Exclusive Interview with Santa Claus | What It's Like to Be Santa (Eddie Cotter, Jr.)
What if Santa Claus wasn’t just a character… but a calling? In this unforgettable episode of The Chris Stefanick Show, I sit down with one of my oldest and dearest friends, Eddie Cotter, Jr.—a longtime Catholic youth minister who unexpectedly took on the role of Santa Claus and eventually ended up appearing as Santa at Rockefeller Center in New York City! What starts as a fun conversation turns into something deeply moving as Eddie tells the story of how he became Santa Claus for his autistic grandson, attended the Harvard of Santa training schools, and has had some truly magical experiences serving in this beloved role. And then… Eddie steps out, and Santa Claus himself walks in for an exclusive interview! Yes. I really interviewed Santa Claus. And yes…I cried. Santa gets deep as we delve into the history of St. Nicholas, the backstories behind some well-known Christmas traditions and legends, and how Santa Claus points us to the real reason for the season—the greatest gift of all. This episode is about hope, goodness, repentance, and the deep truth behind Christmas—that God really did come into the world, and love still wins. You do not want to miss this one.
