James 4:5-9
Man responds to God's love by accepting or rejecting God's grace and by choosing to submit or not to submit to God's will. God resists arrogant men and gives grace to humble men, so one should submit himself to God.
-
James 4:1-4
The lives of the Christians to whom he was writing (at least some of them) were not characterized by peace or Heavenly wisdom, but apparently were instead more like those described in James 3:14. Here we see "the effect of faith on character," or at least the effect our faith ought to have.

James 3:13-18
A Christian shows his wisdom and intelligence through his humble living. This wisdom, from God, is pure, peaceable, willing to yield, full of compassion, good deeds, free from doubts and insincerity.
-
James 3:1-12
James issues a sober warning about the power and danger of the tongue, emphasizing that speech reveals the heart and profoundly affects one’s spiritual integrity.

When the Line of Defense Fails, Part 1 - Guard the Flock
There are certainly false teachers in the world, but when they exist in the church, and unopposed, they are the most dangerous. We need to be aware that they exist, and we need to know how they work. We should not be "ignorant of his (i.e., the Devil's) devices" (2 Cor. 2:11). False teachers are...
