If the Gospel is only preached as “you are loved,” get a warm fuzzy, get what you want out of God, then this “product” of personal happiness is no different than any other available in the world. The fear of hell and eternal punishment based upon God’s righteous judgment has been completely lost in the west. As I see it, for a great revival to happen again in America, this fear of God must be renewed and set ablaze. How else will they value His “Grace and Mercy,” if they do not understand His “Wrath and Judgment” of God? It appears that Gabriel was specifically tasked with this honor and responsibility. They get stuck on “saved by grace,” or “saved by works.” Both are wrong and destitute of spiritual discernment. The answer is “Yes” and “Yes.” We are saved by grace not by works, yet now that we are saved, there is a calling to obey. We didn’t earn our salvation, yet now that it has been given, it comes with guidance. Failure to head the guidance is to reject the offer of salvation. Grace and works are intimately connected. You can never be good enough. That is why there is grace and mercy. Yet, you cannot remain with a heart of rebellion and call Jesus “Lord”. That is why there remains God’s way of doing things, also called the law. To say that you can have a relationship with God on your own terms and conditions, is to deny the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
