That is another way of saying the people were flagrantly breaking God’s laws and rationalizing their sin. Scripture is clear that all men and women are sinners by nature and by choice.For example, Romans 3 says:“for we have already charged that both Jews and Greeks are all under sin; as it is written, “There is none righteous, not even one; There is none who understands, There is none who seeks for God; All have turned aside, together they have become useless; There is none who does good, There is not even one” (Romans 3:9-12).Considering all the hate, murder, lying, lusting, stealing, coveting, envying, immorality, blasphemy, oppression, and much more that marks our world, it may seem surprising that Americans don’t see themselves as sinners but as basically good, and thus, do what is right in their own eyes.In a recent survey released by George Barna, Director of Research at the Cultural Research Center at Arizona Christian University, “only half of all American adults (52%) believe that everyone has sinned…and even among theologically-defined born-again Christians, one in four denies personal guilt of sin.” What’s more, “among self-identified Christians, 72% believe that people are “basically good at heart.”This is troubling and egregious error, especially by those who profess to be part of the church. Today on the program, George Barna joins us to discuss the changing view of sin by Americans and Christians and what has led to it. He is a Jewish believer in Jesus from France, the son of Holocaust survivors, whose maternal grandfather was killed by the Nazis. Olivier is an internationally known speaker on antisemitism. He holds a BA from Moody Bible Institute and a masters from Dallas Theological Seminary, and has been equipping believers to understand and fight antisemitism since 2000. The ramping up of antisemitism is a complete surprise to some, it’s not that long ago that they were the target of genocide during WW2, and if anyone alive has a parent who fought in that war, the connection is still strong. So why now? How are things different? Today we talk about the stages of normalization from his book, “The Normalization of Antisemitism”. World leaders are not so subtly being drawn into this hate as the world turns their back on Israel. Words matter. Words turn to violence. Even our neighbor to the north is being drawn in. In a Muslim village in East Africa, 47 people confessed belief in Christ. But then Christian persecution came. Radical Muslims went house-to-house, threatening new believers and demanding they return to Islam. All but two of the new Christians renounced their faith. Brother Paulo, a leader in YWAM Frontier Missions in East Africa, met the two young men who stood firm for Christ. He asked them how they'd stayed faithful under such intense pressure. "The experience I had with Jesus was so strong that I cannot deny Jesus," the younger of the two men told him. In places like Northern Mozambique, South Sudan, Malawi, Tanzania and other East African countries, Muslim-background believers face persecution from their families and communities.
