Advent is a historic celebration in the Christian calendar that spans the four Sundays leading up to Christmas. A few verses prior, Jesus issued a warning calling attention to two different “ways"; one leading to life and one leading to destruction. Jesus is the Messiah, pointing us to the way of life. He continues with a warning to watch out for false prophets who on the outside may seem convincing, but their words and ways lead to destruction. He doesn’t stop there. He then warns that it’s possible to have a life full of religious activity and still miss the narrow way that leads to life.
