Chat with Onoleigh: Coda Country Chats - Season 4, Episode 11
Leigh chats Onoleigh about her most recent single release of her song, "OK Later", and they chatted about her future EP release as well as her Christmas release! About Onoleigh: Onoleigh knows what she wants to say. The 26-year-old Mahomet, IL, native has spent the past few years in Nashville honing her sound and mastering her craft, but her story had begun years before. As early as 16, Onoleigh began making frequent trips to Music City, where she was quickly accepted into the Broadway circuit. She cut her teeth playing cover songs for tourists, and learned to keep their attention with her powerful stage presence and stunning vocals. Early champions including singer/songwriter John Oates (of Hall & Oates) and session musician David Dorn helped her build her creative communities and find her voice in the writing room. Fast forward to 2024, and Onoleigh travelled to LA for a writing trip with hit-making writer/ producer Emile Ghantous (Pitbull, Chris Brown, Boys II Men). Together, the two churned out a collection of songs that perfectly encapsulated the sound Onoleigh had been working toward: high-energy, explosive pop production coupled with heartfelt country lyrics. Topped, of course, by Onoleigh’s signature powerhouse voice. Back in Nashville, Onoleigh added her beloved organic instrumentation to the songs with the help of some of Nashville’s most acclaimed studio musicians. And now, all that’s left to do is to share this music with the world. Singles "Higher Standards" and "Drink And Cry" were released in August and September 2024, respectively, with "OK Later" set to arrive November 1st. With lyrics that scream resilience and a carefree attitude, Onoleigh invites listeners to embrace their emotions and indulge in a little recklessness after a breakup. The chorus "let me feel my feelings, I'll be ok later," encapsulates the spirit of the song—proving that it’s ok to not be ok and that revenge can be sweet.Co-written and produced by Grammy-nominated Emile Ghantous, along with Emmy-winning Josh Goode and 4x Platinum songwriter Sam SZND, "OK Later" showcases Onoleigh's haunting powerhouse vocals, recorded in the historic Layman Drug Company in Nashville. This track is more than just a song; it's a rallying cry for anyone who's ever felt the sting of betrayal and is ready to show their ex what they're missing. Ty Gregory and your Chats Pod host, Leigh met at the Whiskey Jam Bootlegger's Tailgate after his set in Jacksonville, FL before the Luke Combs show. Ever since, they've shared witty commentary and dad jokes on the state of country music and life in general while becoming social media friends. If you didn't have the chance to see Ty Gregory playing at the Whiskey Jam events this summer, or maybe somewhere else in the country this year, odds are you're likely to catch him at a Chili's Bar and Grill being a middle-class fancy dad to his two girls. His newest single, "Pictures of Us" released on September 27th, so be sure to stream it after hearing all about it on this episode of the Coda Country Chats Podcast. About Ty Gregory: Hailing from a small town just 50 miles east of Nashville, Ty Gregory has been sowing his musical roots deep in the Bible Belt since he was just a teenager. As a young boy, Ty would sit in front of his grandmothers wooden console tv for hours at a time watching 90’s country music videos on CMT. Captivated by the look and sound of artists such as Tracy Lawrence, Joe Diffie and Travis Tritt, Ty knew at a young age that whatever these guys had, he also wanted. As Ty started nearing his teenage years his love for music didn’t fade, but it did however start etching more towards modern hard rock. From bands such as 3 Doors Down, Creed and Staind, Ty grew interest in becoming more than your average listener and decided it was time to learn a musical craft of his own. Twelve years old with a new tobacco sunburst painted Silvertone guitar from a Sears catalog, Ty quickly began learning to strum chords and eventually he turned those chords into songs. From that point on, Ty became hooked to the concept of playing and creating music of his own and formed countless country and rock bands over the next several years. A subtle mix of 90’s country twang coupled with melodic overtones and driving beats that can’t help from being considered an anthem, Ty Gregory is a fresh new take on the country format. Chat with Grace Asbury: Coda Country Chats - Season 4, Episode 1
Having recently released a single collaboration with Dalton Dover, Grace Asbury joins us for the Season 4 premiere of the Coda Country Chats podcast to talk about the song, "Saving You Saved Me". Growing up in Georgia, Grace talks about her move to Nashville and her amazing opportunities she has had in the writers' room. About Grace Asbury: Channeling both real life, joy, and angst into songs that connect with her audience has made Grace Asbury one of the most notable young artists on today’s country music scene. But it’s more than just her writing chops and strong, warm voice that are propelling Asbury’s career. Asbury has developed her own unique style that merges thoughtful, literate songwriting with her edgy Southern rock-infused sound.Asbury knows the power of music because she’s felt it in her own life, and she wants to have that impact on others. “Songwriting has been super cathartic for me,” she says. “I'm blessed in the fact that I can write my feelings out within a melody, and it helps so much putting it on paper and singing it. And when I listen to other artists like Carrie Underwood or Miranda Lambert, I feel like, ‘Wow! They’ve lived my life. They know me.’ Songwriting is such a powerful thing and it’s great to be able to speak for people who don’t know how to put their feelings into words. Music is really one of the most powerful tools in our world for healing. I want to wrap people up in a blanket of feelings, to provide them the warmth they need in a tough moment. As songwriters, we have this power that God gave us to help people. Chat with Ryan Trotti: Season 3 Finale - Part 2!
(PART 2) Ryan Trotti joins Leigh on the season finale of Chats Pod to discuss his new single, "Never Drinking Again, Again" and his recent opening set for Redferrin. About Ryan Trotti: Genuine. Versatile. Passionate. Persistent. Those are the best words to describe Ryan Trotti. Not to be cliche', but honestly, if Sam Hunt and Johnny Cash had a music baby, godfathered by Eminem, this is who it'd be. He's got a pretty rockin' mullet too, and that doesn't hurt. Raised on traditional country by his mom, classic rock & roll by his dad, and 90s hip-hop from his friends, this 2019 Carolina Country Music Awards Entertainer of the Year winner has a unique ability to create music in multiple genres, while staying genuine to each, although his heart remains partial to country. He got his start in the 3rd grade, when his mother taught him a blues riff on the piano. From there, he taught himself drums, piano, and guitar. He developed his ear and began producing at age 12, which led to songwriting and becoming a performing artist. He has become accomplished on virtually every piece of equipment and tool used in modern production. His diverse talent and ear has allowed him the opportunity to produce and write for/with many well-known hip hop, pop, and country artists, including studio sessions with platinum selling rock band, Crossfade. In addition to producing music, Ryan also co-produced and starred in a full length, award-winning short film/music video, which debuted to a packed out theatre in Charlotte, NC. Most recently, Ryan has been working with one of Nashville's favorite producers, Jake Parshall, who used to tour at the guitarist for Cody Johnson. When Covid-19 slowed down live shows in the industry, Ryan stayed active writing and recording all new material. His first single, “Thank You For Breaking My Heart”, which a feel-good, positive spin on the pain of breaking up, caught the ear of one of Nashville's top radio promoters, Jerry Duncan. Jerry and his team have promoted over 82 #1 hits on radio, including artists Jason Aldean (Hicktown), Morgan Wallen (Up Down, Whiskey Glasses), Florida Georgia Line (Cruise), along with many others. As a result, Ryan's first single scored a top 40 slot in the Country Breakout Chart. Chat with Arianna Pappas
Leigh chats with Arianna Pappas on this episode of Coda Country Chats, and she tells all about her newest single, "Daddy's Dime". You may have seen Arianna singing her heart out to the National Anthem at a sporting event around Nashville, and you'll see her out and about singing in venues and songwriters rounds in town. About Arianna Pappas: A promising future has begun for Nashville-based pop country artist and songwriter Arianna Pappas. Her brand new single 'Daddy's Dime' brings powerful vocals, relatability, and an extra dose of sass to the music scene.Pappas is an east coast native, but she got to Nashville as fast as she could. Singing just about since the day she could talk, she has successfully nurtured a soulful, rock-infused timbre with a tinge of country heart. Many have compared her to the likes of Stevie Nicks, Florence Welch, and Dolly Parton. Pappas’ journey brought her to Nashville’s own Belmont University in 2020 to study songwriting. As a writer, she has a unique and defining sound, inspired by storytellers like Miranda Lambert and Taylor Swift. Her songs challenge the pop country landscape by merging infectious melodies, compelling stories, and clever metaphors. These elements can be heard on the carefree summer love tune ‘Every Mile’ (January 2024) and breakup bop ‘Space’ (February 2023). ABOUT JAGGER WHITAKER: Drawn to music from an early age due to his father's strong belief & encouragement, country music artist Jagger Whitaker began his musical journey behind a drum kit. He learned to play the drums alongside his dad, who worked tirelessly to spark a flame of inspiration for a young Jagger to explore music. Chat with Noelle Toland
Noelle Toland is on this episode of Coda Country Chats! Listen in as she tells all about her new cover of the 90's Country Female Anthem, "Walkaway Joe". More about "Walkaway Joe": Nashville based singer/songwriter Noelle Toland is paying homage to one of the beloved decades of country music. She recreated an iconic 90’s country song and delivers her own cover version of Trisha Yearwood’s Walkaway Joe. This song is now available on all streaming platforms including Spotify and Apple Music. “I’ve always been a huge 90’s country music lover,” says Noelle. “Trisha Yearwood is one of my idols. My Mom and I share a love for this song, so it is very special to me. When I was a little girl, I actually used to sing this song around the house for my Mom, often using a remote control or a hairbrush as my microphone.” Originally released in 1992, this classic hit was written by Vince Melamed and Greg Barnhill and reached number 2 on the U.S. Billboard country charts. “This song is such a classic staple in country music. It represents country music at its finest, raising the bar for storytelling by taking us on a journey of young love and heartbreak in the span of 3 minutes. It comes from a time where women pretty much dominated country radio. I always wanted to cover this song and I’m hoping I did the song justice.” Noelle recorded her version with producer Sean Paddock (renowned musician, producer and former drummer for Kenny Chesney), and showcases her vocals which are well-suited for this song, never exactly imitating Yearwood’s inflections, but instead adding a bit of her own style and sound to it. Following the success of her previously released singles as well as her debut EP, The Moon Will Pass By, Noelle continues to reach into the depths of our souls in a beautiful way. She has received critically-acclaimed praise in numerous publications, participated in CMA Music Festival, been nominated for Country Evolution’s Artist to Watch, and received national and international airplay in Australia, Europe, Ireland, London, Switzerland, and the U.K. Noelle is scheduled to release new original music throughout the year, as well as a few more 90’s country songs that everyone knows. She is also gearing up for more shows and performances. To stay up-to-date, visit her website and follow along with her on Facebook, Instagram, Threads, TikTok, and Twitter/X. About Noelle Toland: This passionately captivating country artist modernizes and personalizes old-school country music into her own sound and niche. While many assume the genre’s audience is limited exclusively to the south, Noelle Toland, who hails from a 2,000-person vineyard town in North Plains, Oregon is proof that that simply isn’t true. As an only child, Noelle used to perform around the house for her Wheaton Terrier, Max, just dancing around and being silly. But upon joining kindergarten choir at the budding age of five, she already knew exactly where she was meant to be. She is an accomplished actress with roles in several films, movies and TV shows including a stint in Criminal Minds. She has surmounted almost 200K streams on Spotify and her music video for Sun Will Rise received critically-acclaimed praise and was immediately added to The Country Network, broadcasting to over 40 million households.
