When A Man Loses His Why: Purpose, Identity, Brotherhood, And Suicide Prevention
Send us Fan MailIn this episode, I sit down with Baruch “B” HaLevi, a counselor, men’s coach, author, former rabbi, and student of Viktor Frankl’s meaning-centered approach to life. Dr. HaLevi’s work is deeply personal: suicide has affected multiple generations of his family, including the death of his father roughly twenty years ago. Rather than allowing that history to become the end of his story, he has spent years working with men around meaning, purpose, identity, responsibility, brotherhood, and the question Viktor Frankl considered central to human survival: What is your why? We explore what happens when men build their identities around numbers—income, followers, weight, height, status, achievements, possessions, or other measurements—and eventually begin confusing those numbers with their actual worth. Dr. HaLevi connects that problem to Frankl’s experiences in the Holocaust, while I connect it to social media, dating culture, fitness culture, comparison wounds, and the way statistics can sometimes cause us to forget the individual human beings they represent. We also discuss why external success can coexist with profound internal collapse, and why a man who seemingly “has everything” can still feel as though he has nothing worth living for. Our conversation also goes deeper into masculinity, mentorship, fatherhood, faith, responsibility, and service. Dr. HaLevi argues that self-actualization alone is incomplete without self-transcendence—moving beyond ourselves in service to another person, a community, a cause, or God. We discuss biblical examples of imperfect men, the importance of taking radical responsibility rather than demanding perfection, why younger men need older mentors, and why older men have a responsibility to intentionally guide the generations coming behind them. We also examine men’s peer groups as spaces for accountability, connection, honest conversation, and rebuilding the brotherhood many men no longer have. Finally, we confront male suicide directly through Dr. HaLevi’s work with the 13 Minute Mission, his men’s peer groups, and his larger effort to break the silence surrounding male isolation and suicide. Rather than reducing the conversation to statistics, we focus on the individual lives behind them and the ripple effects each death creates. Dr. HaLevi leaves us with a powerful starting point for anyone who cannot yet identify their grand purpose: if you do not know your why, begin by identifying your why not—the person, responsibility, relationship, calling, faith, or reason that is keeping you here today. https://bhalevi.com/Website: https://coupleonukes.comDiscounted Military Creator Con Tickets: http://militarycreatorcon.com/register?afmc=MCCMWExodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? When Your Old Life No Longer Fits: Rebuilding Identity, Purpose, & Direction
Send us Fan MailIn this episode, I sit down with Garret Biss to talk about one of the most destabilizing experiences we can face: reaching the end of a major chapter and realizing we no longer know exactly who we are, what we want, or where we are going next. Mr. Biss experienced that firsthand after nearly 17 years in the Marine Corps. What looked from the outside like freedom and opportunity instead brought anxiety, depression, loss of identity, diminished purpose, and questions about what made life meaningful once the structure he had known for years disappeared.Although we spend significant time discussing military-to-civilian transition, this conversation is for all major transitions- leaving a career, graduating from college, ending a relationship, changing industries, becoming a parent, retiring, or abandoning a path we invested years into can all create similar disruptions. Mr. Biss and I explore why human beings need more than income and external achievement—we also need connection, belonging, positive identity, meaning, purpose, and the ability to feel that our time is being invested in something worthwhile.Mr. Biss also shares an unexpected chapter from his deployment to Afghanistan, where personal struggles and unusually large amounts of reflection led him to study happiness, fulfillment, positive psychology, philosophy, and human flourishing. That work eventually became The Spheres Approach to Happiness and Fulfillment. Years later, his own post-military struggles forced him to test many of those ideas personally. We discuss why principles for living well do not prevent hardship, but can become a compass when the storm actually arrives. We also get into workaholism, burnout, career changes, sunk-cost thinking, entrepreneurship, recovery, and the difference between being externally productive and internally healthy. Mr. Biss explains why he ultimately walked away from a real-estate path he had invested heavily in and moved toward work that made him feel more alive and useful. Ultimately, this conversation challenges us to stop measuring success only by salary, titles, credentials, or how busy we appear—and instead ask whether the life we are building actually aligns with who we are becoming.https://garretbiss.com/Website: https://coupleonukes.comDiscounted Military Creator Con Tickets: http://militarycreatorcon.com/register?afmc=MCCMWExodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? From Denial To Acceptance: Learning To Live With A Bipolar Diagnosis
Send us Fan MailIn this episode, I sit down with Reza “Rez” Ghaemi to have an honest conversation about bipolar disorder, mental health stigma, diagnosis, acceptance, and what it can mean to build a stable life after years of resisting what is happening internally. Mr. Ghaemi shares how he was diagnosed around age 30, why the diagnosis initially created an identity crisis rather than relief, and how denial became part of a longer process of eventually accepting both the condition and the responsibility of managing it.We also break down one of the biggest misconceptions surrounding bipolar disorder: that it simply means being moody, angry, or rapidly switching emotions. Mr. Ghaemi discusses his own experiences with manic episodes, hospitalization, relapse, medication, and learning to recognize warning signs before an episode becomes more severe. I connect that process to conversations I have had throughout the show about addiction recovery, relapse, overconfidence, self-awareness, and the danger of assuming that feeling better automatically means the underlying issue has disappeared.Faith also becomes a major part of Mr. Ghaemi’s story. Born into a Muslim background, he describes how periods of intense mental-health struggle unexpectedly pushed him toward Christianity and eventually led to his baptism. We discuss self-worth, purpose, suffering, and his analogy of viewing life like a video game: the difficult experiences belong to the character, but the value of the person exists beyond the current level being played. That perspective becomes part of his larger message that a diagnosis can be one chapter of a person’s life without becoming their entire identity.Mr. Ghaemi also shares the motivation behind his book, Bipolar Is My Superpower: How Acceptance Changed My Life, his work as a podcaster and DJ, and his growing interest in eventually entering the mental-health or addiction-support field. We also touch on creativity, podcasting, dating and relationship conversations, and the importance of lived experience when helping people navigate difficult seasons. Ultimately, this episode is about replacing denial with awareness, shame with understanding, and helplessness with responsible action.https://www.rezpodcast.com/Website: https://coupleonukes.comDiscounted Military Creator Con Tickets: http://militarycreatorcon.com/register?afmc=MCCMWExodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? Celebrating Season 11 Launch & 350+ Episodes (Couple O' Nukes Podcast)
Send us Fan MailWhen I started this podcast, the goals were drastically different. The vision was different. There was never any idea of having seasons, let alone ten of them already. There was never any idea of having episodes more than once a week, let alone every other day.Yet, here I am, with a podcast that is launching its eleventh season and is approaching four-hundred episodes.Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this journey, and for everything yet to come.In this episode, I just share some podcasting insights, gratitude, and briefly share about my podcasting journey.Website: https://coupleonukes.comDiscounted Military Creator Con Tickets: http://militarycreatorcon.com/register?afmc=MCCMWExodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? What Tambo "Rice Paddy" Art Reveals About God’s Timing, Perspective, & Purpose
Send us Fan MailIn this solo sermon from the Solo Scripture Samurai Arc, I use the Japanese tradition of tambo art—rice paddy artwork made from different colored rice plants—as a powerful illustration of faith, perspective, patience, and God’s design. From the ground level, a rice paddy can look confusing, random, or incomplete. But from the right elevation, at the right time, a beautiful image appears. That picture becomes the heart of this message: much of life looks unclear while we are standing in the field, but God sees the full design from above.I connect that image to Scripture by exploring how the Bible repeatedly reminds us that we do not yet see everything clearly. I discuss Job and God’s response to human limitation, along with passages like Ecclesiastes 3, John 13:7, 1 Corinthians 13:12, and 2 Corinthians 5:7 to emphasize timing, trust, and the call to live by faith rather than by sight. I also walk through how God’s plans are purposeful, not random, drawing on passages such as Jeremiah 1:5, Psalm 139:16, Isaiah 55:8-9, Jeremiah 29:11, Genesis 50:20, and Romans 8:28.This episode is ultimately about surrender. In life, some “rice plants” look like blessings, while others look like betrayals, heartbreaks, delays, or confusion. But this sermon challenges us to trust that God can use every part of the field—both what He plants and what He allows—to form something greater than we can currently understand. If you are in a season where your life feels unfinished, unclear, or painful, this message is meant to encourage you to trust the Lord’s timing, seek discernment, and let Him remain the true artist of your life.Website: https://coupleonukes.comDiscounted Military Creator Con Tickets: http://militarycreatorcon.com/register?afmc=MCCMWExodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? From Alcoholism & Organ Transplant To Building Stronger Relationships: The Monument Method
Send us Fan MailIn this episode, I sit down with Gaylen Wilson to talk about a life that has repeatedly required him to rebuild from the ground up. Mr. Wilson takes me from growing up in rural Colorado and becoming a farmer to devastating crop failures, a career as a stockbroker, another major financial collapse, and a decade-long struggle with alcoholism. We discuss functioning alcoholism, sobriety, the importance of developing emotional tools before crisis hits, and why Mr. Wilson believes gratitude for what remained helped prevent repeated losses from turning him into a bitter man.Mr. Wilson's story eventually becomes a fight for his physical life. After initially being told he had pneumonia, he learned that he was experiencing severe congestive heart failure, with his heart functioning at an extremely dangerous level. His condition continued deteriorating for years until June 2018, when he and his wife received the call that a donor heart was available. Hours later, Mr. Wilson received a heart transplant—a second chance that he says created an intense desire to use the additional years of his life to help other people. That mission eventually led Mr. Wilson and his wife into relationship coaching and the development of what they call the Monument Method. We explore his belief that couples should picture their relationship as something they are building together, with loving actions strengthening the structure while destructive arguments, contempt, and emotional withdrawal slowly damage it. Mr. Wilson explains how he and his wife use a predetermined "sacred word" to interrupt escalating conflict, reconnect, regulate themselves, and return to difficult conversations without treating each other as enemies. We also discuss emotional safety, intimacy, erectile dysfunction, long-term marriage, conflict repair, dating culture, fight-or-flight responses within relationships, and Mr. Wilson's developing Sanctuary Bond concept. At the center of the conversation is a simple challenge: winning an argument means very little if you damage the relationship in the process.https://www.monumentmethodinstitute.com/Website: https://coupleonukes.comDiscounted Military Creator Con Tickets: http://militarycreatorcon.com/register?afmc=MCCMWExodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? From Idea To Industry: Building The Bar Book & Creating Better Social Experiences
Send us Fan MailFor my first interview after returning to America from Japan, I sit down with Mike Waskewhich, a retired Army Sergeant Major who served nearly 24 years before entering entrepreneurship and building businesses centered around technology, community, and veteran-owned brands. Mr. Waskewhich shares why he originally joined the military to escape a small Indiana town, how a career that began in the JAG Corps eventually took him into senior leadership, and what decades of military service taught him about resilience, mentorship, integrity, and the impact leaders can have without ever realizing someone is watching. We also get into the decision to leave military service and prioritize family, along with one of the biggest questions veterans face during transition: What do I do next? Mr. Waskewhich explains how his interest in bourbon and craft beverages eventually led him to create The Bar Book, a technology platform designed to learn individual flavor preferences and recommend products based on what someone actually enjoys. We discuss the science behind flavor, the craftsmanship involved in brewing and distilling, and how entrepreneurship can take an unexpected interest and turn it into an entirely new mission. That mission expanded into CRAFT—the Coalition to Represent American Flavor and Tradition—which brings together veteran-owned companies across the adult beverage industry, including alcoholic beverages, non-alcoholic alternatives, sodas, sports drinks, and more. Mr. Waskewhich explains his push to get dedicated veteran-owned product sections into military exchanges and increase veteran-brand representation at military and veteran events. We also discuss Frontline Tastings at the Military Influencer Conference in Tampa on September 24, 2026, along with future collaborations involving Military Creator Con and other veteran-focused communities. At the heart of this conversation is something much bigger than beverages: veterans helping veterans build what comes next. Mr. Waskewhich and I talk about entrepreneurship after military service, using military-developed problem-solving skills in business, learning from mistakes, networking without treating everyone as competition, and approaching successful people as potential mentors. For veterans wondering whether they are capable of building something after uniformed service, this episode is a reminder that the leadership, adaptability, persistence, and community mindset developed in the military can become some of their greatest entrepreneurial advantages. https://supportcraft.org/event/frontline-tastings-mic2026https://thebarbook.app/Website: https://coupleonukes.comDiscounted Military Creator Con Tickets: http://militarycreatorcon.com/register?afmc=MCCMWExodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? From Trauma To Creativity: David Deane Haskell On Healing, Writing, & AI
Send us Fan MailFor my final in-person international interview from Japan during the summer of 2026, I reconnect with author and professional marching drummer David Deane Haskell—the same guest who happened to become my first in-person international interview earlier in the summer. This time, we go deeper into the relationship between trauma recovery, addiction, creativity, writing, spirituality, and the rapidly changing world of artificial intelligence. Mr. Haskell also updates me on the second edition of Wounded Angels, his deeply personal healing memoir exploring inner-child work, codependency, family trauma, addiction recovery, and the long process of confronting wounds he spent decades avoiding.Mr. Haskell and I examine how unresolved trauma can influence relationships, identity, creativity, and even writer’s block. We discuss his journey from drug and alcohol addiction toward sobriety and emotional healing, while I connect his experiences to conversations I have had surrounding suicide prevention, addiction recovery, military mental health, emotional regulation, and the danger of simply burying painful experiences instead of addressing their roots. We also explore how writing can become both an expression of what someone has survived and a way of developing characters with greater empathy, complexity, and humanity. From there, we dive into Mr. Haskell’s fiction, including Too Much Information, The Gold Club, Dark Alignment, Emergence, The Solarian Deep, and his developing novel The Vibrants. That opens an extensive conversation about science fiction, government overreach, algorithms, technological surveillance, sentient AI, human creativity, digital privacy, AI-generated communication, mental-health technology, and who ultimately gets to determine the ethical boundaries of artificial intelligence. I challenge several of these ideas through real-world examples involving AI translation, interpersonal communication, suicide intervention, bias, censorship, and the increasingly blurry boundary between helpful technology and technology making decisions for us.We ultimately come back to a much more human question: How can we be okay? Whether we are talking about addiction recovery, childhood trauma, writing, futuristic societies, artificial intelligence, social division, or creative expression, this conversation is about what happens when people stop running from what hurts and begin creating something better from it. Mr. Haskell and I also encourage aspiring writers and creators to stop waiting for permission, embrace the strange ideas living in their heads, and recognize that human imagination remains extraordinarily difficult to replace.https://daviddeanehaskell.com/https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/healing-the-wounded-inner-child-addiction-trauma/id1657865479?i=1000777685209Website: https://coupleonukes.comDiscounted Military Creator Con Tickets: http://militarycreatorcon.com/register?afmc=MCCMWExodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? Amplifying Veteran Voices Through Podcasting (Military Creator Con Panel 2026)
Send us Fan MailRecorded live at Military Creator Con 2026 in Arlington, Texas, this special episode features my portions of the Podcaster Panel, including the questions directed to me and my responses. The full panel was moderated by Military Creator Con Founder James Van Prooyen and also featured Mike Dell, Founder of Blubrry, and Robin Phoenix Johnson, comedian and podcaster. This release focuses specifically on my perspective and experiences, while the complete panel is available separately through Military Creator Con for future purchase.I share how I discovered podcasting while still serving on active duty in the U.S. Navy, using long drives and commutes as opportunities to learn, stay entertained, and make better use of my time. That eventually led me to create Couple O’ Nukes without really knowing what I was doing—which means I also made plenty of mistakes. I discuss why aspiring podcasters should research the business, technology, branding, and resources available to them before launching, as well as why military service members do not have to postpone their creative ambitions until after leaving the uniform.Mr. Van Prooyen also pushes the conversation into personal branding, leveraging a podcast, and determining what success actually means. I explain how Couple O’ Nukes grew beyond its original military roots into a platform supporting my work in speaking, comedy, writing, mental health advocacy, suicide prevention, and self-improvement. For me, podcasting has never simply been about download numbers. It is about building trust, authority, reputation, connection, and a body of work that can continue reaching the right person at the right time—even years after an episode was originally released.I also get into some of the less glamorous realities of podcasting: difficult guests, rejecting episodes that do not align with your standards, unrealistic expectations about making money, online criticism, fluctuating engagement, and the enormous amount of work creators often perform behind the scenes. From recording video even when you initially plan to release audio only, to editing your own early episodes, experimenting with social media clips and B-roll, cross-promoting appearances, and learning your voice before outsourcing everything, this conversation is a practical look at podcasting as both a creative craft and a long-term platform. Whether you are a veteran, military creator, aspiring podcaster, content creator, or someone trying to turn your ideas into something meaningful, this episode offers lessons I learned by building the show from the ground up.militarycreatorcon.comWebsite: https://coupleonukes.comDiscounted Military Creator Con Tickets: http://militarycreatorcon.com/register?afmc=MCCMWExodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? Student Suicides In Japan Are Rising: How AI Is About To Change Prevention & Intervention
Send us Fan MailIn this solo episode, I examine an alarming contradiction developing in Japan: while the country's overall number of recorded suicides has been declining, suicide among children and students has reached historic levels. Japan recorded 19,188 suicide deaths in 2025, falling below 20,000 for the first time, yet 538 elementary, junior high, and high school students died by suicide—the highest number recorded since comparable statistics began in 1980. I break down the available data, including differences between age groups and genders, while emphasizing that every statistic represents a human life, a family, and a community affected by loss. I also look at why the return-to-school period deserves particular attention. Historical Japanese education data shows increased student suicide deaths during the latter half of August and around the beginning of September, with September recording the largest number of student suicides in both 2024 and 2025. Academic underachievement, entrance examinations, future career concerns, bullying, family problems, social isolation, mental health struggles, and difficulty asking for help can all intersect in complicated ways. I also examine research showing dramatically higher suicide mortality among students attending part-time and correspondence high schools and discuss whether isolation, reduced contact with teachers and peers, previous school non-attendance, and unequal access to mental-health resources may help explain some of that disparity. The central question of this episode is whether artificial intelligence can become part of the solution. Japan is now exploring AI and other digital technologies for earlier identification of suicide risk, while municipalities such as Yokosuka have already launched services such as AI-chan, a 24/7 generative-AI listening service designed to connect people with appropriate human support when necessary. I explore the potential advantages—including constant availability, lower barriers to disclosure, pattern recognition, and the ability to reach thousands of people—as well as serious concerns surrounding privacy, sensitive data involving minors, hallucinations, false positives, missed warning signs, unhealthy emotional dependence, and the possibility that institutions could eventually substitute automation for qualified human care. Ultimately, I do not believe this conversation should end with asking whether AI, schools, counselors, or governments can solve suicide. Technology may become another doorway through which someone asks for help, but human beings still have to walk through the other side of that doorway. Whether you are a parent, teacher, coach, mentor, friend, neighbor, or simply someone paying attention, suicide prevention begins with noticing changes, taking people seriously, listening, and helping connect them with appropriate support. Instead of only asking what Japan should do differently, I challenge each of us to ask a more personal question: What can I do today to better recognize and serve someone who may be struggling silently? https://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/news/20260609_10/https://www.npa.go.jp/safetylife/seianki/jisatsu/R08/R7jisatsunojoukyou.pdfhttps://www.npa.go.jp/safetylife/seianki/jisatsu/R08/zantei0807.pdfhttps://www.mext.go.jp/a_menu/shotou/seitoshidou/1414737_00033.htmhttps://www.cfa.go.jp/policies/kodomonojisatsutaisakuWebsite: https://coupleonukes.com Discounted Military Creator Con Tickets: http://militarycreatorcon.com/register?afmc=MCCMW Exodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/ Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? Forget About Your Dry Skin! What Dry Bones Reveal About Your Spiritual Health
Send us Fan MailIn this Solo Scripture Samurai sermon from my Radiating Faith series, I return to Ezekiel 37 and the Valley of Dry Bones after realizing that I had only scratched the surface of this passage during my Biblical Kintsugi sermon. The idea came to me while riding a train in Japan and deliberately stepping away from my phone to sit in silence. Surrounded by advertisements, screens, beauty products, makeup, and a culture increasingly consumed by constant stimulation, I found myself thinking about how much effort we put into preventing dry skin while rarely asking a far more important spiritual question: Are my bones dry? I break down the historical context of Ezekiel 37 and explain why the bones are described not merely as dry, but as very dry. Israel's condition followed prolonged rebellion, judgment, exile, devastation, and hopelessness. Yet God did not leave the bones where they were. Through His word, the bones came together, tendons and flesh appeared, and skin covered them—but even then, they were not truly alive. They still required breath. That distinction becomes one of the central messages of this sermon: you can have the structure, the body, the appearance, the career, the clothing, the social-media image, and even the outward appearance of righteousness while still lacking the Spirit that brings genuine life. From there, I connect Ezekiel's imagery with several passages throughout Scripture that contrast external appearance with internal condition. Samuel reminds us that people look at outward appearance while Yahweh looks at the heart. David asks God for a pure heart and a renewed spirit. Paul writes that although we outwardly waste away, inwardly we can be renewed day by day. Yeshua condemns the Pharisees as beautiful whitewashed tombs filled with dead bones, while Peter speaks of the unfading beauty of the inner person. Scripture repeatedly redirects our attention away from obsessing over what other people see and toward what God sees within us. Most importantly, this sermon is not a message of condemnation for anyone who feels spiritually exhausted, distant from God, or completely dried out. Ezekiel's vision contains tremendous hope precisely because these were very dry bones. God restored what looked far beyond recovery, but their restoration required His breath and Spirit. So I challenge myself and everyone listening to examine our spiritual bone health: Have we spent more time maintaining our skin than our soul? Do we merely look alive, or are we actually living through the Spirit of God? And if our bones have become dry, are we willing to return to Scripture, relationship with Yeshua, and the breath that can make us stand again? https://youtu.be/bFBmIINYyus?si=8-616zl4Pq5miw9AWebsite: https://coupleonukes.comDiscounted Military Creator Con Tickets: http://militarycreatorcon.com/register?afmc=MCCMWExodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? The Next Decade Body: Building Strength, Energy, And Health For Life
Send us Fan MailNearly two years after our first conversation, I reunite with Thien Wong to talk about just how much can change when fitness becomes something deeper than appearance. Ms. Wong has transformed not only physically, but professionally and personally, leaving her previous career, expanding her coaching work, and releasing her new book, Next Decade Body. We explore the philosophy behind that title and why building a healthy body should not simply be about looking good this summer, reaching a number on the scale, or surviving another short-term fitness challenge. The better question is: what do you want your body to still be capable of doing ten, twenty, or thirty years from now? Ms. Wong shares the experience that helped reshape her own relationship with health, including becoming unexpectedly breathless while climbing stairs in her twenties and realizing that being thin did not automatically mean being healthy or physically fit. We also unpack one of my favorite concepts from Next Decade Body: the danger of small leaks. Using an expensive hidden water leak at her home as an analogy, Ms. Wong explains how declining energy, chronic exhaustion, aches, stress, and other warning signs can become normalized until something much larger forces us to pay attention. Instead of waiting for a crisis, we discuss building greater awareness of what our bodies are communicating today. We also challenge modern fitness culture and the comparison trap created by social media. I share my own history of being bullied for being extremely skinny, experiencing gym intimidation, discovering fitness through One Punch Man, struggling with numbers on the scale, and eventually shifting my motivation from aesthetics toward strength, service, discipline, faith, and physical capability. Ms. Wong discusses why another person's workout, physique, diet, or transformation cannot simply be copied onto our own life. Genetics, physiology, goals, lifestyle, stress, recovery, and even what someone is actually doing behind the scenes can all be different. We also address steroids, editing, artificial intelligence influencers, body dysmorphia, fitness shaming, and why comparing ourselves to our past progress can be far healthier than endlessly comparing ourselves to strangers online. Finally, we explore women's fitness and health, including Ms. Wong's perspective on menstruation, body weight fluctuations, stress, energy, aging, and preparing for later stages of life. She explains how her coaching now focuses on high-achieving women over 35 who may believe they simply need more discipline when their deeper challenge is depleted energy and an unsustainable lifestyle. Whether you are already in the gym every day or you have never seriously considered your long-term fitness, this conversation is an invitation to stop training only for a photograph and start building a body capable of carrying you through the life you actually want to live. https://nextdecadebody.com/Website: https://coupleonukes.comDiscounted Military Creator Con Tickets: http://militarycreatorcon.com/register?afmc=MCCMWExodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? Biblical Kintsugi: Brokenness, Redemption, And New Creation
Send us Fan MailIn this Solo Scripture Samurai sermon from my Radiating Faith series, I explore the Japanese art of Kintsugi—the practice of repairing broken pottery with lacquer and visible gold—and use it as a doorway into one of Scripture’s most powerful recurring themes: brokenness does not have to be the end of the story. I begin with the history and meaning of Kintsugi before sharing why this subject is personally bittersweet for me. Long before I came to Japan, Kintsugi became connected to a broken relationship in my own life, making this sermon more than simply an observation about Japanese culture. It became an opportunity to examine what God can do with the parts of our lives we once thought were permanently shattered.Through Joseph, David, Bathsheba, and Solomon, I examine how Biblical restoration does not require pretending that evil, sin, consequences, or suffering never happened. Like Kintsugi, Scripture does not paint over the cracks and pretend the vessel was never broken—it tells the truth about them while showing that brokenness does not have sovereign authority over what comes next.I then turn toward the promises of Scripture concerning the brokenhearted, wounded, and spiritually exhausted. Psalms describes Yahweh as being close to the brokenhearted and healing their wounds. Isaiah speaks of beauty replacing ashes, joy replacing mourning, and praise replacing despair. Ezekiel promises a new heart, while Paul describes those in Yeshua as a new creation. But Biblical restoration ultimately goes much deeper than Kintsugi. God is not simply decorating visible damage. He transforms the heart, restores what has been ruined, and brings life into places that looked completely dead. That leads into the question at the center of this sermon: What if I am too broken? Ezekiel's Valley of Dry Bones gives us an extraordinary answer. These were not slightly damaged people waiting for minor repairs—they were described as very dry bones whose hope appeared completely gone. Yet God's breath brought them back to life. The New Testament continues that testimony through Lazarus, Jairus' daughter, the widow's son, and ultimately Jesus Himself. The Gospel is not merely the story of a cracked vessel being glued together. It is the proclamation that Yeshua entered death and walked back out alive. The cracks may remain part of our testimony, but they do not get the final word. Resurrection does.Website: https://coupleonukes.comDiscounted Military Creator Con Tickets: http://militarycreatorcon.com/register?afmc=MCCMWExodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? The Reality Of Living In Japan As An American: What Tourists Don't See
Send us Fan MailMore than a tourist destination, Japan is a place where people build careers, marriages, families, and entire lives—and in this in-person international episode, I sit down with John Daly to talk about what that reality actually looks like. Mr. Daly first came to Japan through studying abroad before eventually returning to teach English, meeting his future wife, moving between Japan and the United States, building a career in information technology, and eventually returning to Japan with his family. His path includes everything from losing a Navy ROTC opportunity shortly before college to teaching in rural Japan and later supporting major Japanese organizations through Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure.A major part of our conversation centers around international marriage and raising a multicultural family. Mr. Daly and his Japanese wife spent portions of their relationship separated between countries, forcing them to navigate long-distance marriage, language barriers, different styles of humor, and cultural misunderstandings. Now raising two young biracial children in Japan, they are working to give them both English and Japanese while also thinking ahead about identity, belonging, education, and how their children may be perceived differently in Japan because of their mixed heritage. We also discuss differences in parenting expectations and the challenge of deciding which cultural traditions and values should shape a multicultural household. We also get into the everyday realities of living in Japan that tourists rarely see. Mr. Daly talks about navigating rural Japan with paper maps, adapting to Japanese workplaces, transportation, government systems, daycare, permanent residency, driving on the opposite side of the road, and the brutal summer heat. Together, we compare the advantages and frustrations of life in Japan and the United States while discussing why moving abroad does not suddenly make every problem disappear. Japan offers extraordinary safety, convenience, food, community, and public transportation, but it also has bureaucracy, aging infrastructure, rural decline, social problems, and cultural expectations that outsiders may never see from a vacation. This conversation ultimately becomes a broader discussion about immigration, cultural integration, community, technology, family, and what happens when the romanticized version of another country collides with everyday reality. Mr. Daly does not present himself as someone with a perfectly polished message—he is a husband, father, IT professional, and longtime international resident sharing what he has actually experienced. For anyone considering living in Japan, building an intercultural relationship, raising bilingual children, or simply wanting to understand Japan beyond Tokyo tourism and social media, this episode offers a candid look at what life abroad can really involve. How I Turned Rejection Into My First International Comedy Show In Japan
Send us Fan MailIn this episode, I take you behind the scenes of how rejection, frustration, faith, and one unexpected conversation led me to create and perform my first international English-led bilingual stand-up comedy show in Yokosuka, Japan:That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Cowboy In Japan And Had To Perform Comedy To Save The World. What started as me trying to find a few minutes of stage time eventually became something much bigger: my own hour-long comedy show in a foreign country, organized with less than three weeks to prepare. I talk about navigating the Japanese comedy environment, attempting to build an audience with a limited local network, and reaching the point where we had sold zero tickets only about a week before the show.Instead of giving up, I kept promoting, networking, and working alongside the owner of MagYoko to make the event happen. Somehow, that nearly empty ticket list turned into a packed venue filled with people from Japan, America, and beyond, including people who traveled hours to attend. More importantly, the entire experience forced me to reconsider how I respond when opportunities disappear. I had been frustrated with God about doors that were not opening, only to realize that if one of those smaller opportunities had worked out, I probably never would have created something of my own.I also reflect on performing stand-up comedy internationally for the first time, adapting comedy for an audience that included English-language learners, dealing with my own perfectionism after the performance, and learning to appreciate what I accomplished without pretending everything went perfectly. Sometimes the opportunity we are asking for looks completely different from the opportunity God eventually puts in front of us, and this experience became another reminder for me to choose questions over accusations when I do not understand what He is doing. After the behind-the-scenes story, you will hear the full audio from my comedy performance in Japan, including jokes about being an American cowboy in Japan, culture shock, learning Japanese through anime, PASMO machines exposing foreigners, Japanese dating misunderstandings, Godzilla versus Sanrio, American food in Japan, maid cafés, friendship, and plenty of absurd experiences from my time overseas. Because so much of stand-up comedy depends on expressions, movement, and physical delivery, I highly recommend watching the full video, Stand-Up Comedy in Japan: Culture Shock, Dating & Chaos | Full Special, on the Couple O' Nukes YouTube channel through the link in the description.https://youtu.be/y81YZ7fS2yI?si=p8FcBFc-W5JpxjaKcoupleonukes.com/comedy/Website: https://coupleonukes.comDiscounted Military Creator Con Tickets: http://militarycreatorcon.com/register?afmc=MCCMWExodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? Diagnosed With AuDHD Late In Life: Trauma, Masking, & Finally Understanding Yourself
Send us Fan MailIn this episode, I sit down with Ellie “AuDHD” Capstick for a conversation about autism, ADHD, childhood trauma, masking, identity, parenting, and what happens when someone finally receives answers after spending decades wondering why they feel different. Ms. Capstick was diagnosed with neurodivergence in her late 30s after recognizing similarities between herself and her neurodivergent children. The diagnosis brought both relief and grief as she began looking back at a lifetime of criticism, misunderstanding, and attempts to fit into environments that were never designed around the way her brain worked. We explore AuDHD—the combination of autism and ADHD—and Ms. Capstick describes the internal conflict between ADHD’s desire for novelty and impulsivity and autism’s need for predictability and routine. We also discuss masking, why some neurodivergent people become skilled at mirroring those around them, and how this can complicate diagnosis later in life. I raise concerns about the social-media trivialization of conditions such as ADHD, while Ms. Capstick explains why the reality can involve substantially more than being distracted, forgetful, or quirky. Ms. Capstick also opens up about experiencing childhood sexual abuse and the difficulty of separating symptoms associated with trauma from those associated with neurodivergence. We discuss vulnerability, self-worth, people-pleasing, unhealthy relationships, young motherhood, and how an undiagnosed condition can influence far more than education or employment. Looking back at raising her older children before understanding herself, Ms. Capstick shares what she wishes she had known and how that knowledge has changed the way she now approaches parenting. Most importantly, we focus on what comes after understanding yourself. Ms. Capstick explains how identifying a neurodivergent person’s strengths and hyperfocuses can help create a life that works with their brain instead of constantly forcing them into a conventional mold. Her own hyperfocus on neurodivergence eventually developed into a rapidly growing online community, coaching and mentorship work, and her podcast. Whether someone is professionally diagnosed, exploring the possibility of neurodivergence, parenting a neurodivergent child, or simply trying to better understand someone they love, this conversation is about replacing shame and confusion with education, appropriate tools, self-awareness, and purpose. https://linktr.ee/EllieaudhdWebsite: https://coupleonukes.comDiscounted Military Creator Con Tickets: http://militarycreatorcon.com/register?afmc=MCCMWExodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? The Political Hydra: Former Congressional Candidate On America's Seemingly Unfixable Problems
Send us Fan MailIn this episode, I sit down with 20-year U.S. Army veteran, former congressional candidate, actor, writer, and speaker Matthew Hasty for an extensive conversation about military service, American politics, political polarization, faith, and whether our current system can still produce meaningful reform. Mr. Hasty reflects on growing up in the Deep South, joining the Army at 19, serving approximately 14 out of 20 years overseas, becoming a warrant officer, and eventually running for Congress in Louisiana’s 5th Congressional District.Mr. Hasty and I examine both the opportunities and frustrations of military life. We discuss toxic bureaucracy, constant relocation, family instability, poor retention, military leadership, and why many talented service members decide they can accomplish more after leaving the uniform. At the same time, we acknowledge how military service exposed us to different races, cultures, religions, and countries—challenging prejudices, expanding our global perspective, and helping us better appreciate the freedoms and opportunities available in America. The conversation then moves into Mr. Hasty’s congressional campaign and what it taught him about campaign financing, voter apathy, party influence, political gatekeeping, and the enormous difficulty independent or underfunded candidates face when competing for public attention. I ask him to explain what went wrong, what he would do differently, and whether America’s political problems can realistically be repaired. Together, we discuss political division, free speech, identity-based conflict, the decline of professionalism, media framing, and the growing inability of Americans to disagree without treating one another as enemies. We also explore Mr. Hasty’s transition into acting, screenwriting, community theater, and other forms of creative expression. We discuss how art can unite people across political and cultural divisions, why adults should pursue creativity even when they are not experts, and why isolation and rumination can worsen mental-health struggles. Ultimately, this episode calls listeners to seek broader perspectives, engage respectfully with people who disagree, serve their communities, develop their faith, and refuse to surrender their responsibility for America’s future.https://linktr.ee/matt.hastyWebsite: https://coupleonukes.comDiscounted Military Creator Con Tickets: http://militarycreatorcon.com/register?afmc=MCCMWExodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? Navigating Law & Legal Powers For Taking Care Of Your Addicted Loved Ones
Send us Fan MailIn this episode, I sit down with behavioral health attorney Mark Astor to discuss addiction, mental illness, family intervention, and the legal options available when someone can no longer make safe decisions for themselves. Mr. Astor has practiced law for more than three decades and founded a firm dedicated to helping families whose loved ones are struggling with substance use disorders, severe mental-health conditions, repeated treatment failures, medication noncompliance, arrests, overdoses, and other escalating crises. Mr. Astor explains how civil legal proceedings can sometimes give families the authority to make treatment decisions for an adult loved one whose judgment has been severely impaired. We discuss court-ordered treatment, guardianship, emergency evaluations, competency, diversionary courts, the Baker Act, and Florida’s Marchman Act. I also press him on the difficult ethical questions surrounding personal freedom, involuntary treatment, accountability, and when intervention becomes necessary to preserve someone’s opportunity to recover. We also examine the relationship between behavioral health and the criminal justice system. Mr. Astor shares how his early work as a prosecutor exposed him to repeat offenders whose underlying addiction or mental illness was rarely addressed effectively. Together, we explore when treatment may be more appropriate than punishment, why recovery usually requires a long-term continuum of care, and how families can distinguish between a temporary problem and a dangerous pattern requiring professional intervention. Beyond the legal discussion, Mr. Astor shares his entrepreneurial journey of rebuilding his career after burnout, divorce, financial hardship, repeated failure on the California Bar Exam, and the loss of his father. His story demonstrates how failure can redirect a person toward meaningful work. The central message of this conversation is that families should not wait for overdose, incarceration, violence, or death before asking for help. Recovery is not an instant destination, but informed intervention may create the time, structure, and accountability necessary for someone to begin that journey. https://mentalhealthaddictionlawfirm.com/Website: https://coupleonukes.comDiscounted Military Creator Con Tickets: http://militarycreatorcon.com/register?afmc=MCCMWExodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? Raising A Multicultural Family In Japan: Navigating Fatherhood, Marriage, Culture, & Identity
Send us Fan MailIn this in-person international episode recorded in Japan, I sit down with U.S. Air Force veteran and cybersecurity manager Matthew Yard for a wide-ranging conversation about military service, international marriage, multicultural parenting, leadership, communication, health, and gratitude. Mr. Yard shares how losing his mother to cancer during high school influenced his desire to find camaraderie, purpose, and a community larger than himself—eventually leading him into the United States Air Force. Mr. Yard walks me through his military journey from technical training in Biloxi, Mississippi, to assignments in Turkey, Japan, Korea, Germany, and Afghanistan. We discuss the mentors who helped him develop as a young service member, the importance of healthy military leadership, and why many young troops need more than an assigned supervisor—they need someone genuinely invested in their growth. He also reflects on serving at Bagram Airfield, experiencing indirect fire, witnessing the dangers faced by other service members, and recognizing how precious his family and his own life truly were. We also explore Mr. Yard’s experience as an American husband married to a Japanese woman and the father of three biracial daughters. He explains how cultural differences, language barriers, and emotionally charged conversations created misunderstandings early in his marriage. Together, we discuss bilingual parenting, raising children across multiple countries, helping children develop their own cultural identity, and the importance of intentionally creating individual father-daughter time before children grow up and leave home. The conversation also examines public speaking and professional development through Toastmasters. After missing a career opportunity, Mr. Yard recognized that technical knowledge alone was not enough; he also needed to communicate his ideas clearly and confidently. I share my own experiences as a speaker and emphasize that effective communication affects far more than promotions—it strengthens leadership, marriages, parenting, conflict resolution, and personal boundaries. Finally, Mr. Yard shares the medical crisis that abruptly ended his Air Force career. After military medical personnel initially failed to identify blood clots in his lungs, his wife continued advocating for additional testing until the condition was discovered. Although the diagnosis resulted in his medical separation, it opened the door to a federal civilian career. His central lesson is one everyone can apply: never take your health, family, opportunities, or present circumstances for granted, because life can change without warning. Scripture And Sumo Wrestling: Footwork, Daily Discipline, & Spiritual Warfare
Send us Fan MailIn this Solo Scripture Samurai sermon, I draw from my experience watching sumo wrestling in Japan to examine spiritual warfare, Christian discipline, and the feet of gospel peace described in Ephesians 6:13–15. While acknowledging the non-Christian religious traditions historically connected to sumo, I focus on the practical lessons its athletes demonstrate through stability, humility, preparation, and disciplined footwork.A sumo wrestler can lose by stepping outside the ring or touching the ground with anything other than the soles of his feet. Spiritually, the enemy may not need to destroy us completely; he may only need to move us gradually beyond the boundaries God established. One compromise, hidden habit, dishonest decision, unhealthy relationship, relapse, or abandoned season of prayer can destabilize our footing. We may appear spiritually powerful above the ankles, but knowledge, church attendance, and public ministry cannot compensate for an unstable foundation.I also examine shiko, the foundational sumo exercise involving the repeated lifting and stomping of each foot. The movement represents the repetitive training required before hardship arrives. Prayer, fasting, Scripture, repentance, sobriety, forgiveness, service, Christian community, and resistance to temptation may sometimes feel monotonous, but these disciplines develop believers who remain standing during hardship. We cannot wait until the spiritual battle begins to start putting on the armor of God.Through Psalm 40:2, Psalm 18:33–36, Psalm 119:105, 1 Kings 18:46, Isaiah 52:7, and Romans 10:15, I explain that biblical footwork is about more than refusing to fall. God gives us the stability to stand where He places us, the discernment to know when to move, and the readiness to carry the Gospel wherever He sends us. The feet of gospel peace are designed for both protection and purpose: to hold our ground, charge forward when called, walk the right path, and bring the good news to those who need it most. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/from-new-age-to-new-creation-escaping-spiritual-deception/id1657865479?i=1000735371091Website: https://coupleonukes.comDiscounted Military Creator Con Tickets: http://militarycreatorcon.com/register?afmc=MCCMWExodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? Preacher To Breacher: Former Pastor & FBI Agent On Society, Faith, Empathy, & Grace
Send us Fan MailIn this episode, I sit down with former FBI Special Agent and Baptist pastor Eric Robinson for a conversation about faith, law enforcement, criminal investigations, and the difficult realities hidden beneath everyday society. After beginning his career in ministry, Eric entered the FBI and served for 24 years, investigating drug cartels, gangs, public corruption, organized crime, crimes against children, financial crimes, counterterrorism, and human intelligence. He also spent 15 years as a SWAT operator and approximately a decade as a tactical and firearms instructor. Mr. Robinson explains how the emotional burden of pastoral ministry contributed to years of debilitating headaches—and why transitioning into the FBI surprisingly gave him healthier professional boundaries. I ask him about ministry burnout, the pressure pastors experience to appear perfect, the importance of having a trustworthy community, and whether witnessing violence, exploitation, and human suffering challenged or strengthened his Christian faith. We also discuss how his work broadened his understanding of grace, accountability, and the complicated circumstances that can lead people into gangs, drug trafficking, prostitution, and other criminal environments. Our conversation moves into some of the darkest cases Mr. Robinson encountered, including drug-cartel investigations, gang violence, crimes against children, and the commercial sexual exploitation of teenage girls. Rather than reducing victims or offenders to simple labels, we examine the childhood trauma, abuse, poverty, manipulation, desperation, and lack of responsible adults that often exist behind these situations. I also share my experiences working with organizations that support women escaping sexual exploitation and emphasize the importance of prevention, mentorship, mental-health resources, faith-based outreach, and survivor-informed care. We close by discussing Mr. Robinson’s forthcoming book, his unusual journey from “preacher to breacher,” and the remarkable people and cases he encountered throughout his FBI career. Most importantly, we address how listeners can maintain hope without becoming overwhelmed by every tragedy in the world. We may not be able to solve every global crisis alone, but we can protect our families, support credible organizations, serve our communities, and steadily expand our sphere of positive influence. https://preachertobreacher.com/Website: https://coupleonukes.comDiscounted Military Creator Con Tickets: http://militarycreatorcon.com/register?afmc=MCCMWExodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? Two Travelers In Japan Unexpectedly Sit Down To Talk Culture, Marriage, Purpose, & Faith
Send us Fan MailIn my second international in-person interview recorded in Japan, I sit down with Luis, whom I met at Hillsong Tokyo at their grand opening. What began as two strangers sitting next to each other at church quickly turned into a meaningful conversation about faith, identity, marriage, culture, and the lifelong process of personal growth. Together, we explore how God often brings people together in unexpected places and how international travel can broaden not only our worldview but also our understanding of ourselves. Luis shares his journey from growing up in the Dominican Republic to building a life in the United States, raising four sons, and eventually finding himself traveling through Japan. He opens up about marrying at a young age, navigating cultural differences within marriage, experiencing divorce, pursuing reconciliation, and the lessons counseling taught him about codependency, emotional health, communication, and aligning values before entering a lifelong commitment. His story highlights how unresolved personal struggles can quietly influence relationships and why genuine healing begins with honest self-examination rather than simply changing circumstances.Throughout the conversation, I contribute my own experiences growing up in a controlling household, traveling internationally, and witnessing the incredible diversity of cultures around the world. Together we discuss why so many people unknowingly build their identity around careers, relationships, or other people's expectations instead of discovering who they truly are. We also examine loneliness, mental health, addiction, suicide prevention, emotional maturity, empathy, and the importance of finding purpose that extends beyond temporary success or external validation.Additionally, Luis shares about the importance of getting involved in local and even federal politics to make voices heard and to help push for change or defend systems, laws, and beliefs that are under attack.Website: https://coupleonukes.comDiscounted Military Creator Con Tickets: http://militarycreatorcon.com/register?afmc=MCCMWExodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? Bipolar Is Who I Am: Chris LaFreniere On Mental Illness, Addiction, & Faith
Send us Fan MailIn this episode, I sit down with Chris LaFreniere, author of Bipolar Is Who I Am: A Journey of Transformation, Redemption, and Managing the Chaos Within, to discuss one of the most misunderstood mental illnesses in the world. Mr. LaFreniere shares his deeply personal story of living with Bipolar I Disorder, including psychosis, paranoia, repeated psychiatric hospitalizations, addiction, and the long road toward stability. Rather than offering easy answers, he provides an honest look at what recovery actually requires and why hope is still possible even in life's darkest moments.Mr. LaFreniere walks us through his first manic episode, the terrifying delusions that led to his diagnosis, and the difficult years that followed as he repeatedly cycled through treatment before finally accepting the importance of medication, healthy routines, sobriety, and accountability. We also discuss how his Christian faith became an essential part of his recovery, the role of prayer and church community, overcoming alcohol and substance abuse, and why recovery from bipolar disorder is about lifelong management rather than pretending the illness simply disappears.Throughout our conversation, I explore the growing misconceptions surrounding mental illness in today's culture and why authentic conversations like this matter. We discuss the importance of removing stigma, encouraging people to seek professional help, balancing faith with medical treatment, and remembering that mental illness does not define a person's value or future.https://www.bipolariswhoiam.com/Website: https://coupleonukes.comDiscounted Military Creator Con Tickets: http://militarycreatorcon.com/register?afmc=MCCMWExodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? Healing The Wounded Inner Child: Addiction, Trauma, And Codependency Recovery
Send us Fan MailIn my first international in-person podcast interview, I sit down with author and professional drummer David Deane Haskell in Japan for an honest conversation about childhood trauma, addiction recovery, codependency, identity, and inner-child healing. Mr. Haskell is the author of five science-fiction books and Wounded Angels, a deeply personal account of connecting with the wounded versions of himself that remained frozen within traumatic experiences.Mr. Haskell shares how losing his mother to suicide at four years old—and learning the details of her death at nine—created wounds involving abandonment, shame, dissociation, bullying, and difficulty forming relationships. We explore his experiences growing up with an alcoholic father, being treated as the family scapegoat, searching for safety through television and idealized families, and eventually turning toward drugs and alcohol. His journey later included a suicide attempt, professional drumming at Tokyo Disneyland, years of isolation, damaged family relationships, and finally beginning his sobriety journey in 2018.We examine the central message of Wounded Angels: our destructive behaviors may originate as attempts to protect wounded parts of ourselves. Mr. Haskell explains why inner-child work is not necessarily about confronting or correcting those younger versions of ourselves, but listening to them, understanding what they were trying to protect, and determining whether those survival strategies are still serving us. We also discuss codependency, compulsive rescuing, emotional numbing, unhealthy relationships, body-based warning signals, twelve-step recovery, therapy, boundaries, and the complicated process of repairing relationships after addiction.Throughout the conversation, I connect Mr. Haskell’s experiences with my own upbringing around addiction, bullying, family abuse, religious weaponization, and my continuing relationship with an addicted parent. We discuss forgiveness with boundaries, suicide prevention, the hidden pain behind apparently successful people, generational trauma, parenting after addiction, and why healing requires both accountability and compassion. Ultimately, this episode reminds us that while hurt people can hurt people, healed people can also help heal people—and we each have a choice in what we build from what we survived.https://daviddeanehaskell.com/Website: https://coupleonukes.comDiscounted Military Creator Con Tickets: http://militarycreatorcon.com/register?afmc=MCCMWExodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? The Extraordinary Men’s Network: Sobriety, Accountability, Understanding, & Mental Health
Send us Fan MailIn this episode, I reconnect with Andrew Michael Houghton, founder of the Extraordinary Men’s Network, nearly two years after his first appearance on the show. Mr. Houghton joins me from Korea while I’m in Japan, and we catch up on sobriety, fatherhood, marriage, men’s mental health, accountability, and the work of building healthier communities for men.Mr. Houghton shares how the past two years have been both difficult and deeply meaningful, including some of the hardest periods of his life alongside some of the most blessed. We talk about how sobriety changed his life, why community was essential to staying sober, and how his own recovery journey helped inspire the Extraordinary Men’s Network. Mr. Houghton explains that men need spaces where they can share honestly without judgment, receive accountability, and realize they are not alone. We also discuss addiction, rationalization, relapse, and the dangerous belief that recovery has a final finish line. Mr. Houghton shares how alcohol became tied to confidence, escape, insecurity, and emotional regulation before eventually becoming destructive. I also reflect on how many people treat sobriety, marriage, self-improvement, or emotional discipline like a destination instead of a lifelong practice, and why lowering your guard can allow old patterns to return.Later, we get into coaching, fatherhood, marriage, comparison, and the hidden stories men carry inside. Mr. Houghton explains how he became a coach after realizing that many men need more than information; they need support, honest reflection, accountability, and someone willing to challenge them without becoming a yes-man. We also talk about how men often compare themselves not only to social media and celebrity culture, but to internal stories inherited from parents, teachers, childhood, and society.https://andrewelevates-com.l.ink/Website: https://coupleonukes.comDiscounted Military Creator Con Tickets: http://militarycreatorcon.com/register?afmc=MCCMWExodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? The "5th Beast" In Daniel Everyone Overlooks & Why It Matters
Send us Fan MailIn this Radiating Faith sermon, I examine what I call “the beast outside the vision”—a startling connection between Daniel’s vision of four beasts and what happened to King Nebuchadnezzar in Daniel 4. Although Scripture identifies only four beasts within Daniel’s vision, Nebuchadnezzar later experienced a real transformation that made him live and behave like an animal. His hair grew like eagle feathers, his nails resembled a bird’s claws, and his human reason was taken from him until he acknowledged the sovereignty of God. I compare Daniel 4 and Daniel 7 to explore why prideful rulers and violent kingdoms are represented as beasts. Humanity was created in the image of God, but oppression, greed, arrogance, and rebellion lead us away from the qualities we were created to reflect. Nebuchadnezzar possessed enormous power, prosperity, and influence, yet his pride caused him to take credit for what God had permitted him to build. The powerful king was consequently humbled until he understood who truly rules over the kingdoms of the earth. This message is not only a warning but it is also a story of mercy and restoration. God ordered the great tree representing Nebuchadnezzar to be cut down, but He preserved its stump and roots. Once Nebuchadnezzar looked toward heaven, acknowledged God’s authority, and regained his sanity, his kingdom was restored. The same God who humbles prideful people also offers restoration to those who repent and return to Him. I also consider what these passages mean for our personal conduct and modern governments. Are our decisions reflecting the image of God, or are pride, selfishness, power, and sin transforming us into something spiritually beastlike? This sermon challenges us to examine our lives, pray for our leaders, recognize the spiritual warfare surrounding earthly authority, and pursue the heart, mind, and character of Jesus Christ. The Queen Of Empathy On Emotional Intelligence, Connection, And The Hero Within
Send us Fan MailIn this episode, I reconnect with Karen Hall, known as the Queen of Empathy, nearly three years after we first met at Podcast Movement Evolutions in Los Angeles. Ms. Hall is an emotional intelligence leadership coach, podcaster, speaker, author, editor, publicist, event producer, and advocate for helping people recognize the hero within themselves. We discuss empathy, connection, courage, leadership, faith, parenting, public speaking, emotional awareness, and the quiet ways ordinary people become heroes.Ms. Hall shares how her podcast, The Hero Within, grew out of her desire to help people feel less alone. After experiencing rejection, loneliness, misunderstanding, and family estrangement, she realized that people do not need identical experiences in order to relate emotionally. We explore the difference between labels and feelings, why empathy does not require shared circumstances, and how people sometimes use “I can’t relate” as an excuse to avoid discomfort or responsibility. We also discuss Ms. Hall’s personal story, including being born two and a half months premature, surviving despite severe medical concerns, growing up with anxiety, overcoming a fear of public speaking, and learning to turn sensitivity into strength. She explains how being a highly sensitive person and an empath shaped her parenting, coaching, leadership, and spiritual life. I also share my thoughts on helping children identify emotions, asking why before punishing, and creating an environment where people feel safe enough to communicate honestly.Later, we explore emotional intelligence in leadership and why psychological safety, trust, and empathy directly affect engagement, creativity, productivity, loyalty, and profitability. Ms. Hall explains that leadership is not merely about authority or title; it is about whether people feel safe, heard, and valued. We also discuss her work with the Los Angeles Tribune, the Global Women’s Journal, international events, Latina women, authors, speakers, and leaders who want to use their stories to serve others.https://karenhallcoaching.com/Website: https://coupleonukes.comDiscounted Military Creator Con Tickets: http://militarycreatorcon.com/register?afmc=MCCMWExodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? Before Godzilla, There Was Leviathan: Why The Bible's Sea Monster Still Matters
Send us Fan MailIn this Solo Scripture Samurai Arc sermon, I reflect on my journey to Awaji Island, Japan, where I experienced the Godzilla Interception Operation during a typhoon. Standing beneath the towering figure of Shin Godzilla made me think about humanity’s fascination with kaiju, sea monsters, and seemingly unstoppable forces—and ultimately led me back to the biblical account of Leviathan. I explore what Scripture says about Leviathan through Genesis, Job, Psalms, Isaiah, and Jeremiah. Rather than claiming that Godzilla is Leviathan or settling every debate about whether Leviathan was literal, symbolic, or something else, I focus on the central message of these passages: a creature no human being could hope to control still belongs completely to God. The One who formed the seas, established their boundaries, and created Leviathan, which possesses power beyond anything humanity can manufacture or imagine. Leviathan also gives us a powerful way to understand the overwhelming problems we face. Financial hardship, damaged relationships, mental-health struggles, uncertain opportunities, and other crises can tower over us like kaiju. Some battles are beyond our ability to conquer alone—but they are never beyond God’s authority. This sermon is an invitation to stop measuring your problems against your own strength and start measuring them against the power of Yahweh. When the Leviathan in your life appears unbeatable, remember that God has already demonstrated His authority over every force beneath heaven. Your monster may be greater than you, but it is not greater than your Creator. Living With Chronic Illness: Pain, Identity, Burnout, And Finding Meaning
Send us Fan MailIn this episode, I sit down with Dr. Jeffery Bone, a chronic illness coach, mental health professional, podcaster, and author who has spent more than two decades working in the chronic illness and chronic pain space. Mr. Bone’s expertise became deeply personal when he developed a chronic illness of his own, forcing him to confront the physical pain, mental exhaustion, medical uncertainty, identity loss, and emotional grief that many patients experience behind closed doors. We discuss Mr. Bone’s path from studying psychology to working one-on-one with people living through chronic pain and illness. He shares how his own health crisis began with a persistent headache and rapidly developed into fatigue, tremors, bladder pain, neurological symptoms, insomnia, brain fog, and widespread inflammation. After seeing numerous specialists without receiving a clear answer, he eventually learned that toxic mold exposure, mycotoxins, immune dysfunction, and common variable immune deficiency were major parts of his condition. This conversation examines the importance of becoming your own health advocate, seeking additional opinions, and recognizing that the human body cannot always be understood by examining one symptom or organ at a time. Mr. Bone explains how functional medicine, toxicology, immunology, genetic testing, cortisol testing, and other approaches helped reveal issues that traditional medical appointments had missed. We also discuss medical arrogance, the harm caused when symptoms are dismissed, and why a doctor saying “I don’t know” can be more valuable than offering an unsupported diagnosis.Later, we explore the mental and emotional realities of chronic illness, including grief for the former self, medical burnout, isolation, anxiety, shame, changing relationships, and the feeling that life is steadily shrinking. Mr. Bone shares how creativity, curiosity, podcasting, poetry, writing, and assigning new meaning to his pain helped him build an expanded life instead of spending every day trying to return to who he was before becoming ill.We also discuss his podcast, To The Bone: Conversations on Pain, Illness, and Meaning, along with books including Broken Bone, Carved Out of Bone, Mold Brain, Chemical Undertow, The Restless Human, The Restless Waiting Room, The Absurd Body, and The Expanded Life.https://www.drbone.live/Website: https://coupleonukes.comDiscounted Military Creator Con Tickets: http://militarycreatorcon.com/register?afmc=MCCMWExodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? We Are All Here: Suicide Prevention, Human Trafficking, & Grace In Acts 16
Send us Fan MailIn this solo Radiating Faith sermon, I explore Acts 16 and the powerful connections between spiritual discernment, human exploitation, worship during suffering, forgiveness, and suicide prevention. I examine how Paul and Silas remained faithful through opposition, physical abuse, imprisonment, and uncertainty—and how their response influenced everyone listening around them.I begin with the enslaved young woman whose spiritual condition was being exploited for financial gain. Although the spirit within her spoke words that sounded truthful, Paul refused to accept endorsement from an evil source. Her owners responded with anger when their ability to profit from her disappeared. I connect this biblical account to modern human trafficking, sexual exploitation, coercive relationships, and the difficult reality that rescuing people often threatens those who benefit from their captivity.I then examine Paul and Silas worshiping while imprisoned. Scripture specifically tells us that the other prisoners were listening, reminding us that people observe how we respond when our faith becomes costly. Worship is not merely something we practice after deliverance. It can become an act of leadership, testimony, and spiritual resistance while we are still wounded, confined, and waiting for circumstances to change. Finally, I focus on the Philippian jailer, who prepared to take his own life because he believed he had failed and could not survive the resulting shame. Paul intervened with the words, “We are all here.” I discuss why suicide prevention is connected to forgiveness, grace, accountability, and the preservation of life—even when the person in danger has harmed us. Acts 16 ultimately demonstrates that shame does not have to end in death, suffering does not silence worship, and one act of mercy can transform an individual, a household, and everyone watching.Website: https://coupleonukes.comDiscounted Military Creator Con Tickets: http://militarycreatorcon.com/register?afmc=MCCMWExodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? How AI & Phone Calls Are Helping Save Lives At Addiction Treatment Centers
Send us Fan MailIn this episode, I sit down with Dave Sichel, a man in long-term recovery, founder of Blueshirt Media, and someone using AI to help addiction treatment centers reach more people during one of the most critical moments of their lives. Mr. Sichel shares how his own experience with addiction, relapse, treatment, and recovery shaped his mission to help the still-suffering addict. This conversation begins with a serious question: what happens when someone finally calls for help, but no one answers?Mr. Sichel explains that for many people struggling with addiction, the decision to seek help may come during a short and fragile “moment of clarity.” If that moment is missed because a treatment center sends the caller to voicemail, leaves them on hold too long, or lacks overnight staffing, the person may never make that call again. We talk about why this can become a life-or-death issue, especially for people battling drugs, alcohol, relapse cycles, shame, isolation, and hopelessness. We also explore Mr. Sichel’s personal recovery story, including getting clean as a teenager, staying sober for 17 years, relapsing after convincing himself marijuana would not be a problem, finding recovery again, relapsing again, and now living more than 12 years clean. Mr. Sichel speaks honestly about the way addiction can rationalize relapse, how dangerous isolation can be for an addict, and why community, meetings, service, and giving back continue to be central parts of his recovery.A major part of this episode focuses on Blueshirt Media and how Mr. Sichel is helping addiction treatment centers use AI as a compassionate support tool, not as a replacement for admissions teams. We discuss AI phone answering, lead re-engagement, text message follow-up, overnight support, long hold times, dropped calls, and the importance of meeting people where they actually communicate. Mr. Sichel also explains how text messaging can reach people who may not answer a phone call, especially if they are around family or afraid to be exposed.Dave Sichel | Blueshirt Media | www.blueshirtmedia.comDemo: https://calendly.com/blueshirt/blue-shirt-media-intro-sensionWebsite: https://coupleonukes.comDiscounted Military Creator Con Tickets: http://militarycreatorcon.com/register?afmc=MCCMWExodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? How Video Game Accessibility Creates Connection For People With Disabilities
Send us Fan MailIn this episode, I sit down with Mark Barlet, a service-disabled Air Force veteran, longtime disability advocate, former founder of AbleGamers, and chief operating officer of AccessForge. Mr. Barlet shares how a military injury left him medically classified as an incomplete paraplegic and how his personal experience with disability eventually grew into more than two decades of advocacy, accessibility work, and creating better experiences for people who are often overlooked. We discuss how Mr. Barlet’s work in gaming began after his best friend developed multiple sclerosis and lost the ability to use her mouse hand. Because video games had been an important way for them to stay connected, that moment became the beginning of AbleGamers and a 20-year mission to make gaming more accessible. Mr. Barlet explains how he worked with major gaming companies, contributed to accessibility standards, and helped support the development of adaptive controllers for Xbox and PlayStation. This conversation also explores the positive side of gaming, especially for people with disabilities who may experience social isolation or struggle to leave their homes. I share examples from Japan, including a café where people with disabilities remotely operate service robots, while Mr. Barlet explains how gaming can provide friendship, purpose, mental stimulation, community, and relief from chronic pain. We also discuss the growing variety of games available for different interests, abilities, and levels of social engagement.Later, we move beyond gaming and examine accessibility in business, travel, hospitality, museums, digital platforms, and faith communities. Mr. Barlet explains that accessibility is not limited to wheelchair ramps and Braille; it is about designing experiences that allow people with disabilities to participate meaningfully. We also discuss the enormous consumer power of the disability community and why organizations that create genuinely accessible experiences can build stronger loyalty while serving people more effectively.Mr. Barlet also introduces the work of AccessForge and its Accessible Faith framework, which helps churches and faith-based organizations identify barriers and create more inclusive worship experiences. https://accessforge.com/Website: https://coupleonukes.comDiscounted Military Creator Con Tickets: http://militarycreatorcon.com/register?afmc=MCCMWExodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? Former Naval Nuclear Officer Jason Sharon On Renting, Home Loans, & Building Wealth
Send us Fan MailIn this episode, of Couple O' Nukes, it's actually a couple of nukes!I sit down with Jason Sharon, a retired Navy nuclear operator, mortgage expert, real estate investor, hotel owner, author, husband, and father. Mr. Sharon shares his journey from growing up in a small Alabama town to joining the Navy at 17, working through the nuclear pipeline, serving 20 years active duty, and eventually transitioning into the world of finance, mortgages, homeownership, and real estate investing. We talk about Navy life, nuclear operations, carrier duty, prototype, naval reactors, leadership, port calls, and the classic military experience of loving the people while not always loving the system. Mr. Sharon also shares how his life after the military took unexpected turns, including owning rental properties, running a mortgage company, and even accidentally becoming a hotel owner in Phuket, Thailand after originally looking for a retirement property for his family.A major focus of this conversation is homeownership, VA loans, mortgages, and the financial habits that hold people back from buying their first home. Mr. Sharon explains why down payment fears stop many renters before they even start, how food delivery and eating out quietly destroy savings, and why rent can be viewed as paying 100% interest with no ownership return. I also share my own reflections on spending, travel, food costs, and how easy it is to let convenience drain money that could be used for long-term stability. We also discuss Mr. Sharon’s books, including VA Mortgages Declassified, I Hate Renting, The Loan Officer Success Manual, and Renters Make You Rich. Mr. Sharon breaks down the “three Cs” of mortgage qualification: character, capacity, and collateral, while explaining how veterans, first-time homebuyers, renters, and future real estate investors can begin building their path toward homeownership. He also emphasizes that even if someone is not ready today, the right guidance can help them create a plan to become ready.https://jasonsharon.com/https://www.homeloansinc.com/Website: https://coupleonukes.comDiscounted Military Creator Con Tickets: http://militarycreatorcon.com/register?afmc=MCCMWExodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? Accidental Lawyer To Thriller Author: Michael Stockham On Returning To Purpose Later In Life
Send us Fan MailIn this episode, I sit down with Michael Stockham, a lawyer, novelist, former creative writing student, fly fishing guide, poet, and storyteller whose life proves that it is never too late to start again. Mr. Stockham shares how his path did not begin with a clear legal career plan, but instead moved through studio art, poetry, creative writing, odd jobs, fly fishing, restaurant work, telemarketing, and eventually law school. His journey is a strong reminder that calling, purpose, and professional identity are often discovered through persistence rather than handed to us neatly at the beginning. We talk about Mr. Stockham’s early creative roots, including his degrees in poetry and short fiction, his love of language, and how creative writing eventually connected to the courtroom. He explains how law became a practical and providential next step, allowing him to use storytelling, persuasion, and writing in a more stable profession. I also ask him about the realities of being a lawyer, including the stress, sacrifice, long hours, and emotional weight that comes with helping people and companies navigate crisis. This conversation also explores Mr. Stockham’s book Confessions Of An Accidental Lawyer, which blends real-life inspiration with fictional storytelling. We discuss his experience representing a prisoner in solitary confinement who claimed he was denied proper medication, along with the personal family story woven into the book involving IVF, marriage, and the pursuit of a child. Mr. Stockham explains how these two storylines came together to create a layered novel about responsibility, hardship, justice, and family.Later in the episode, we discuss his Jake Fox legal thriller series, including Jake Fox: Ties That Blind and the upcoming books planned in the series. Mr. Stockham shares how Jake Fox is built around redemption, brokenness, small-town law, high-stakes trials, and characters who continue growing across multiple books. We also talk about why fiction matters, how stories can carry truth, and why writing is not just entertainment but also a way to process life, preserve meaning, and teach through imagination.https://jakefoxthrillers.lpages.co/Website: https://coupleonukes.comDiscounted Military Creator Con Tickets: http://militarycreatorcon.com/register?afmc=MCCMWExodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? Pilot Emergency Ejects From A Jet And What Followed Changed Everything
Send us Fan MailIn this episode, I sit down with Ken Mellott, an Air Force veteran, former pilot, intelligence officer, author, editor, photographer, and man of faith whose life story stretches from the Air Force Academy to a terrifying aircraft accident, military trauma, PTSD recovery, and intelligent design. Mr. Mellott shares how watching the cadets march at the Air Force Academy as a young boy planted a dream in his heart, inspired by his father’s service, military legacy, and the desire to be part of something bigger than himself. We discuss the defining moment that changed his life: a major aircraft emergency in a T-38 jet where both engines failed, forcing him to eject and survive an experience that could have ended his life. Mr. Mellott opens up about the investigation that followed, the shame and anger he carried, the fear of flying, and the identity crisis that came from being seen as “the pilot who crashed a jet.” I also share my own perspective from military life and blue-collar operations, especially how harsh institutional blame can become when leaders would rather blame the operator than admit equipment, systems, or culture failed. This conversation goes deep into military mental health, PTSD, fear of failure, father-son legacy, faith, and the long process of healing. Mr. Mellott explains how his wife’s quiet faith, the example of others who carried hope through suffering, and his own decision to stop living inside the past helped him move forward. We also talk about how identity cannot be built only on rank, career, accomplishments, or other people’s opinions, because true identity has to be rooted in God.Later in the episode, we explore Mr. Mellott’s writing, including his memoir On Broken Wings and his upcoming intelligent design book series. We discuss irreducible complexity, the human body, the Cambrian explosion, the fine-tuning of the universe, and how science can point people toward the reality of a Creator. I also emphasize that evidence and knowledge can point us toward God, but they should lead us into faith, relationship, and trust rather than becoming the entire foundation by themselves.Mr. Mellott leaves us with a powerful message: broken does not mean finished. Whether you are a veteran, pilot, author, believer, survivor of trauma, or someone trying to rebuild after failure, this episode is a reminder that fear, shame, and pain do not get the final word. Faith, perseverance, and God-given identity can carry us into a new chapter.https://www.kenmellott.com/Website: https://coupleonukes.comDiscounted Military Creator Con Tickets: http://militarycreatorcon.com/register?afmc=MCCMWExodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? A Two-Hour Run In Japan Led Me To Spiritual Discoveries About Discipline, Stillness, & Hope
Send us Fan MailIn this solo Radiating Faith episode, I officially begin the Solo Scripture Samurai Arc, a new Japan-inspired series focused on Scripture, Christian history in Japan, spiritual reflection, and real-life lessons from my time living in the Land of the Rising Sun. While I have already recorded sermons during my stay in Japan, this episode marks the beginning of a more intentional journey into Japanese Christian history, the modern revitalization of Christianity in Japan, and the beauty of seeing the same God worshiped across different languages, cultures, and nations. This episode came from a spontaneous two-hour run after a hectic stretch of typhoons, heavy rain, recovery, and physical exhaustion. Instead of repeating the same running route, I pushed past my normal turning point and discovered new trails, beaches, boardwalks, mountain stairs, parks, and a lighthouse I had been looking at from a distance for years. That moment became a lesson about discipline, boredom, perspective, and how distance can distort what we think we understand. Whether in fitness, relationships, faith, or personal growth, the angle we view something from can completely change what we believe about it.I also talk about the importance of stillness in a noisy world. After my recent conversation with Coach Steve Wright about being still, unplugging, and listening for God, I decided to take my own advice. I ran without music, without podcasts, and without distractions so I could take in the ocean, birds, mountains, plants, and the evidence of God’s creation around me. Through that silence, several Psalms came to mind, including Psalm 46:10, Psalm 42:11, Psalm 34:18, and Psalm 23:4. I reflect on how Scripture reassures the downcast, comforts the brokenhearted, strengthens the crushed in spirit, and reminds us that God is present even in the darkest valley.Throughout this episode, I connect physical discipline with spiritual discipline and explain why Christians should train their bodies, minds, and spirits to be ready to serve. I also reflect on the power of hearing Scripture in both English and Japanese, showing that while cultures, languages, and locations may differ, God remains the same. The Solo Scripture Samurai Arc is about more than Japan; it is about faith, discipline, stillness, Scripture, and discovering how God is already moving in places we may have never thought to look.https://www.coupleonukes.com/radiatingfaith/Website: https://coupleonukes.comDiscounted Military Creator Con Tickets: http://militarycreatorcon.com/register?afmc=MCCMWExodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? Rock Bottom Is Not The End: Randy Duran’s Story Of Recovery
Send us Fan MailIn this episode, I sit down with Randy Duran, a mental health coach who shares a deeply vulnerable story about depression, anxiety, addiction, loneliness, and the dangerous coping cycles that can form when pain goes unspoken. Mr. Duran opens up about struggling with identity and sadness as early as high school, turning to drugs, alcohol, women, gambling, and a fast lifestyle in an attempt to cope with loneliness and emotional isolation.Throughout the conversation, Mr. Duran explains how those early patterns shaped his relationships, his self-concept, and his ability to connect with family, friends, and romantic partners. We discuss how many people can appear functional at school, at work, or in their family life while secretly carrying depression, anxiety, addiction, and suicidal thoughts. His story shows how hidden pain can compound over time when people feel like they cannot burden others with what they are going through.Mr. Duran also shares the night that became one of his major turning points, after a crisis involving alcohol, suicidal intent, police, and the desire to hear his children’s voices one more time. From there, we talk about therapy, healing, accountability, and the importance of having professionals and supportive people who know how to walk with someone through a mental health crisis. I also share my own perspective from suicide prevention work, military mental health conversations, and the reality that lived experience can carry a type of specialized knowledge that matters deeply.Randy Duran Contact Information:Email: [email protected]: 562-542-5678Website: https://coupleonukes.comDiscounted Military Creator Con Tickets: http://militarycreatorcon.com/register?afmc=MCCMWExodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? She Sold Everything And Moved To Paris Without Speaking French: Change Changes Everything
Send us Fan MailIn this episode, I sit down with Wani Iris Manly, an IP lawyer, speaker, author, and change expert whose life took a radical turn after she sold everything, left Miami, and moved to Paris without speaking French or knowing anyone there. Ms. Manly shares how a New Year’s Eve moment of prayer, reflection, and radical self-responsibility led her to confront her limiting beliefs and open herself up to a completely different life.Throughout the conversation, Ms. Manly explains how change is not merely external, but deeply internal. We talk about the fear of change, the fear of the unknown, and how many people resist the very transition that may be calling them into a fuller life. Her journey from a high-powered legal career into speaking, writing, and helping others navigate disruption shows how identity, purpose, and calling can evolve when someone is willing to let go of what feels safe.I also share parts of my own journey, including the transition from being a nuclear operator in the military to becoming a full-time podcaster, speaker, comedian, and creator. We discuss how difficult it can be to leave behind an identity that other people chose for you, especially when so much time, money, training, and family expectation were invested into it. Sometimes the identity we grieve was never truly ours; it was simply the role the world told us was practical, safe, or respectable.https://wanimanly.com/Website: https://coupleonukes.comDiscounted Military Creator Con Tickets: http://militarycreatorcon.com/register?afmc=MCCMWExodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? Podcasting Full Time: Catching Up With Noah May & Lethal Venom
Send us Fan MailIn this reunion episode, I welcome Noah May back to the show to catch up on everything that has changed since his first appearance. Mr. May shares how his podcasting journey has grown over the past year, from hosting Lethal Venom to relaunching Southern Reads and working on Music Talks. He also talks about graduating from Auburn with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and how podcasting unexpectedly became a major part of his professional and creative life.Throughout the conversation, Mr. May and I discuss the real behind-the-scenes work of podcasting: recording hundreds of interviews, managing a massive backlog, dealing with no-shows, navigating guest expectations, and learning when to stop over-editing. We also talk honestly about the strange, funny, and frustrating parts of working with guests, assistants, PR teams, and people who do not always understand the time, energy, and professionalism required to run a podcast well. This episode also explores how podcasting can open doors that creators never expected. Mr. May shares how Southern Reads has brought authors, books, interviews, and new opportunities into his life, while I reflect on how podcasting helped me grow into speaking, comedy, international networking, and global connection. We discuss PodMatch, podcast reviews, guest outreach, episode promotion, and the difference between someone who genuinely wants to share a story and someone who only wants to pitch a product.More than anything, this conversation is a reminder that podcasting does not have to start perfectly to become meaningful. Walking Across Africa: A Veteran's Mission Of Sharing Sustainable Water Systems
Send us Fan MailIn this episode, I sit down with Paul “Waterboy” Brown for a powerful conversation about faith, service, leadership, and the global water crisis. Mr. Brown shares his life purpose of helping solve the water problem by creating sustainable systems of clean water access, and he explains how that mission has taken him into a walk across the African continent to raise awareness, build local partnerships, and help communities gain permanent water solutions. We start with Mr. Brown's time in the U.S. Army, serving both enlisted and as an officer, and how the military shaped his perspective on planning, leadership, survival needs, and cultural humility. We discuss how easy it is for people from privileged environments to judge poverty, litter, infrastructure, or instability without understanding that many people around the world are focused on basic survival: food, safety, and clean water. I also reflect on my own military perspective, especially the importance of respecting other cultures instead of treating foreign countries like temporary playgrounds.A major theme of this episode is the difference between short-term charity and sustainable impact. Mr. Brown explains why his mission is not simply about handing someone water, but about training local leaders, creating water systems, and empowering communities to maintain and expand those systems for future generations. He also shares how personal hardship, financial loss, real estate, faith, and calling all came together to push him deeper into this mission. We also talk about how simple action can create massive ripple effects. Mr. Brown explains how a single dollar can help provide clean water access through his work, while I emphasize that listeners can also make an impact by sharing the episode, spreading the mission, praying, and reflecting on how God may be calling them to serve. This conversation is a reminder that global connection is not just a nice idea but a responsibility, and many of the world’s biggest problems are more solvable than we think when people choose unity, generosity, and action.https://www.servantleadercharities.org/Website: https://coupleonukes.comDiscounted Military Creator Con Tickets: http://militarycreatorcon.com/register?afmc=MCCMWExodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? AI-Generated Worship Music Controversy: Church Council Case Study
Send us Fan MailIn this solo Radiating Faith episode, I use Acts 15 as the foundation for a modern church controversy: should churches use AI-generated worship music? Acts 15 shows the early church wrestling through disagreement, doctrine, Gentile believers, circumcision, the Law of Moses, and how to reach a faithful decision without destroying the body of Christ. From there, I connect that biblical council model to a fictional church council case study about artificial intelligence, worship songs, sound doctrine, and spiritual discernment.I walk through both sides of the AI worship music debate. On one side, I discuss the concern that true worship must come from the human heart, soul, and spirit before God, not from a soulless machine that can only imitate worship language. On the other side, I explore the argument that AI is simply a tool, and that the worship still comes from the human believer who writes, prompts, sings, and glorifies God through the final song. This episode also looks at the deeper theological responsibility of worship music. Songs do not merely entertain; they teach doctrine, shape memory, influence children, and form the spiritual imagination of the church. I discuss the danger of vague lyrics, shallow prompts, AI hallucinations, false doctrine, and the possibility of technology being used to create worship that sounds Christian without being biblically faithful.I then read the fictional letter of declaration I created for the case study, offering a balanced decision: AI should not generate complete worship lyrics, but it may be used as an assistive tool for instrumentals, vocals, or musical support when the lyrics have already been written by a human believer and reviewed by church leadership. I also address a major concern not fully covered in the assignment: whether AI tools are ethically sourcing material or stealing from artists, musicians, and creators. This conversation is not meant to be a final universal ruling for every church. Instead, it is a call for prayer, discernment, humility, biblical oversight, and honest conversation as Christians navigate artificial intelligence, worship, creativity, technology, and doctrine. Whether someone is pro-AI, anti-AI, or somewhere in the middle, the central question remains: does our worship honor God in spirit, truth, reverence, and sincerity?https://www.coupleonukes.com/radiatingfaith/Website: https://coupleonukes.comDiscounted Military Creator Con Tickets: http://militarycreatorcon.com/register?afmc=MCCMWExodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? Buried Not Broken: Mia Godfrey’s Journey From Communist Romania To Healing
Send us Fan MailIn this episode of Couple O’ Nukes, I sit down with Mia Godfrey for a powerful conversation about faith, trauma recovery, addiction, grief, and God’s ability to redeem even the most painful parts of our lives. Mia Godfrey shares her story of growing up as the youngest of ten children in communist Romania, where survival, hardship, poverty, and fear shaped much of her early life. Through her testimony, we discuss what it means to grow up with faith around you, but still have to personally encounter God through pain, healing, and surrender. Ms. Godfrey opens up about childhood abuse, bullying, violence, and the early alcohol use that became a way to numb trauma before she even understood what addiction was. We talk about the difference between simply knowing Scripture and knowing God personally, as well as the shame, secrecy, and generational pain that often surround addiction and abuse. I also reflect on the phrase “hurt people hurt people,” while highlighting the deeper truth that healed people can help heal people. We also discuss Ms. Godfrey’s journey to the United States, the loss of her first husband, the passing of her sister, and how those seasons led her toward writing her memoir, Buried Not Broken: A Memoir of Survival, Sisterhood, and Starting Over. Her story shows how writing, counseling, accountability, Christian community, and obedience to God can become part of a long-term healing process. Together, we explore how God can use the very things we once tried to hide as tools to reach people who are still hurting in silence. Toward the end of the conversation, Ms. Godfrey shares Proverbs 3:5 and discusses her current work as a certified life coach, Bible counselor, EME practitioner, author, and retreat leader. We talk about women’s retreats, purpose, evangelism, and the power of one conversation to plant seeds that only God can grow.https://miagodfrey.com/Website: https://coupleonukes.comDiscounted Military Creator Con Tickets: http://militarycreatorcon.com/register?afmc=MCCMWExodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? Olivia Rodrigo's The Cure & Obsessed: Vital Biblical Truths About Self-Love & Relationships
Send us Fan MailIn this solo Radiating Faith sermon, I use Olivia Rodrigo’s songs The Cure and Obsessed (along with reference to her album You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love) as a modern doorway into a deeper Biblical conversation about love, insecurity, sexual shame, mental health, and the search for healing. These songs capture something many people struggle with quietly: the desire for romance to fix what is broken inside us, and the painful obsession that can come from comparison, jealousy, and sexual history in relationships. I talk honestly about my own experiences trying to “be the cure” in past relationships with women who struggled deeply with anxiety, depression, self-harm, suicidal ideation, and insecurity. Through those experiences, I learned that romantic love can comfort someone, but it cannot become The Cure or the antidote, nor the salvation and healing they need. A boyfriend, girlfriend, husband, or wife can bless your life, but they cannot replace Jesus Christ, the Word of God, or the deep healing that comes from knowing you are loved by your Creator. This sermon also addresses Biblical dating, sexual purity, covenantal love, pornography, social media comparison, and the emotional wounds created when sex is treated casually instead of sacredly. I discuss how Scripture gives us a prevention guide for many of the mental and relational wounds people are carrying today, while also making it clear that this message is not about shame. It is about redemption, accountability, restoration, and becoming a new creation in Christ. If you have struggled with romantic trauma, sexual regret, jealousy, insecurity, comparison wounds, or the belief that another person can finally make you whole, this episode is for you. Relationships are beautiful when they honor God, but they become dangerous when they become idols. The real cure is not being chosen by another person but rather, it's being rooted in Jesus Christ, renewed by Scripture, and learning to love yourself because God already does. https://www.coupleonukes.com/books/https://share.google/iEAaBW7F8Ubw8H9a2Website: https://coupleonukes.comDiscounted Military Creator Con Tickets: http://militarycreatorcon.com/register?afmc=MCCMWExodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? Men’s Mental Health, Suicide Prevention, Grief, Loss, & Podcast Burnout With Chris Milson
Send us Fan MailToday, I sit down with Chris Milson for his second appearance on Couple O’ Nukes, almost exactly one year after our first conversation together. Mr. Milson returns for a raw and honest discussion about mental health, podcasting, grief, suicide prevention, family trauma, and the difficult reality of trying to help others while still carrying your own pain. As the host of Voice for the Voiceless and creator of The Mental Health Movement, he brings both lived experience and a deep desire to create space for people who feel unheard. In this episode, Mr. Milson opens up about an extremely heavy season of life that included losing a friend to suicide, losing his grandfather, and having to put down a neglected family dog. We talk about grief, therapy, birthdays, holidays, emotional triggers, and the way certain dates can carry memories that hit harder than expected. I also share my own reflections on being alone during my birthday in Japan, the mental health weight of rainy days and holidays, and why reaching out matters even when life feels overwhelming.Mr. Milson and I also discuss men’s mental health, the pain of growing up without healthy parental support, and how damaging family dynamics can shape a person’s self-worth for years. We talk openly about fathers, mothers, emotional neglect, weaponized vulnerability, suicide awareness, and the painful truth that even those of us working in prevention cannot save everyone. This conversation is not polished or performative—it is two men being honest about what it feels like to carry grief while still trying to help others survive theirs. We also get into the realities of podcasting as independent creators: burnout, no-shows, lack of guest support, social media algorithms, low engagement, and the frustration of creating meaningful mental health content that does not always get pushed out. At the same time, we celebrate the growth of Mr. Milson’s show, his expanding international reach, and the importance of long-term goals and consistency.https://www.youtube.com/@mentalhealthmovement-voice1382https://www.facebook.com/share/g/1LSTFP4kC2/Website: https://coupleonukes.comDiscounted Military Creator Con Tickets: http://militarycreatorcon.com/register?afmc=MCCMWExodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? Relationship Vs. AI: Technology & Human Connection With Dr. Brian E. Arnold
Send us Fan MailToday, I sit down with Dr. Brian E. Arnold, also known as Dr. B, for a powerful conversation about artificial intelligence, human connection, faith, education, purpose, and the future of relationships. Dr. Arnold shares how growing up in an analog world, being placed in special education classes, and later using technology as an equalizer shaped his perspective on learning, achievement, and opportunity. His journey from struggling academically to earning multiple degrees, becoming an author, coach, entrepreneur, and educator shows how the right tools can help people overcome barriers without replacing the importance of human relationships. In this episode, Dr. Arnold and I discuss the rise of AI and whether people are talking about it in the right way. We explore how artificial intelligence can help with productivity, communication, writing, and accessibility, but only when it serves a deeper purpose. Dr. Arnold emphasizes that AI should help us create more time for family, faith, service, and meaningful relationships—not simply help us produce more noise, more content, and more distractions. We also talk about the danger of short-form content, social media addiction, comparison, celebrity idolization, and the decline of long-form conversation. Dr. B brings in the perspective of podcasting as one of the few places where people can still sit down for an uninterrupted conversation and build real human connection. Together, Dr. Arnold and I examine how phones, algorithms, and constant entertainment can pull people away from their families, their calling, and their relationship with God.Dr. Arnold also shares insight from his books, including There Is No Tiger, Be Do Have, The Decision Formula, and Relationship Versus AI. We discuss anxiety, overthinking, decision-making, coaching, business, faith, parenting, and why people need mentors, not just machines.brianearnold.comWebsite: https://coupleonukes.comDiscounted Military Creator Con Tickets: http://militarycreatorcon.com/register?afmc=MCCMWExodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? Japan To Jamaica: Finding Culture, Connection, & Stillness In A World Moving Too Fast & Loud
Send us Fan MailToday, I sit down with Steve Wright for a wide-ranging conversation that moves from Japan to Jamaica while exploring faith, culture, identity, comedy, travel, and what it means to slow down in a world addicted to noise. Coach Wright joins me virtually from Jamaica (with me in Japan) as we discuss cultural differences, the shared human desire for peace and family, and the way travel can reveal both what makes people unique and what connects us across the world. In this episode, Coach Wright and I discuss stillness, social media, screen addiction, and the constant information overload shaping modern life. We talk about how phones, algorithms, short-form content, and “brain rot” compete against reflection, discernment, prayer, and real human connection. I also bring in Biblical truth about being still, hearing God, and learning how to slow down long enough to understand ourselves, our relationships, and the world around us.Coach Wright also shares insight from his move to Jamaica, his British-Jamaican background, and his reflections on cultural identity, belonging, and what it means to find home. Together, we discuss race, stereotypes, celebrity culture, comedy, cancel culture, character, and why people must be careful not to judge others by surface-level assumptions. From conversations about Japan, Jamaica, Black British identity, American culture, and the dangers of shallow labels, this episode highlights the importance of listening before speaking. We also talk about entrepreneurship, content creation, AI, quality versus speed, and the pressure creators face to constantly produce more. Coach Wright and I explore why meaningful work requires patience, nuance, mastery, and discernment instead of simply racing to publish, post, or perform. This episode is for listeners interested in Christian self-improvement, cultural identity, travel, podcasting, social media, Biblical wisdom, and learning how to live with more awareness in a distracted world.Check Out Previous Interviews With Steve Wright:Workplace Culture: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/establishing-workplace-culture-and-managers-who-lead/id1657865479?i=1000662273602Periodization: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/breaking-free-of-the-calendar-how/id1657865479?i=1000729385769Website: https://coupleonukes.comDiscounted Military Creator Con Tickets: http://militarycreatorcon.com/register?afmc=MCCMWExodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? Through The Lamentations: Survival To Thrival 3 (Perseverance)
Send us Fan MailToday, I share the launch of Survival to Thrival, Volume Three: The Book of Perseverance, the final book in the Survival to Thrival trilogy. After reflecting on The Book of Courage and The Book of Forgiveness, I explain why this book focuses on a deeply personal heartbreak that shaped my growth, faith, discipline, and emotional resilience. In this solo episode, I read and discuss my chapter “Through The Lamentations,” a reflection on heartbreak, grief, and the long process of learning how to move forward when someone you love becomes part of the future you were building and then leaves. I connect the idea of lamentation to the biblical book of Lamentations, the ministry of Jeremiah, and the deeper meaning of sorrow that goes beyond ordinary sadness. This episode explores how perseverance is not always immediate strength or cinematic resilience. Sometimes perseverance begins as survival. Sometimes it looks like crying in the car, losing your appetite, struggling to work, leaning on community, and slowly rebuilding your sense of purpose. Through this story, I discuss three major factors that help move a person from survival to thrival: community support, renewed purpose, and cultivating lessons from hardship.I also talk about how pain can become part of your identity without destroying you. This episode is for anyone walking through heartbreak, grief, loss, depression, emotional exhaustion, or a painful season that seems to be lasting longer than expected. Perseverance is not always about instantly overcoming. Sometimes it is about continuing forward, one small step at a time, until survival becomes healing, healing becomes growth, and growth becomes thrival.Book of Courage: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-intersections-of-morality-and-courage/id1657865479?i=1000722633632Book of Forgiveness: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/forgive-and-protect-escaping-toxic-cycles-without/id1657865479?i=1000747159620Website: https://coupleonukes.comDiscounted Military Creator Con Tickets: http://militarycreatorcon.com/register?afmc=MCCMWExodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? Mr. Whiskey's 2026 Birthday Reflections: Never Too Young To Be An Entrepreneur
Send us Fan MailIn the spirit of my 24th birthday (which may or may not surprise some) I reflect on youth and entrepreneurism. I talk about some of the great success that I have accomplished at a young age but also some of the difficulties, like belittlement, assumptions, and denial. My reflection includes Biblical references to historical figures who made impact at a young age, to include Samuel, David, Solomon, Josiah, and Daniel. What A Flamingo's Birth And Diet Teaches Us About Faith & Following Jesus
Send us Fan MailToday, I use the surprising science of flamingos to teach a simple but powerful biblical lesson about sin, grace, spiritual nourishment, and transformation through Yeshua (Jesus). Flamingos are not born pink- they are born gray or whitish, and their vibrant color comes from what they continually consume. In the same way, humanity is born into the grayness of a fallen world, shaped by sin, brokenness, and inherited corruption. In this Radiating Faith sermon, I connect that flamingo transformation to key passages such as Romans 5:12, Psalm 51:5, Ecclesiastes 7:20, Romans 3:23, John 6:35, John 15:5, Galatians 5:22-23, and Ephesians 2:1-5. I discuss how Yeshua is the bread of life, the vine, and the source of the spiritual nourishment we need. The fruit of the Spirit becomes the visible evidence of what is happening within us when we abide in Him. This episode also addresses the danger of appearing spiritually vibrant without true inward transformation. Some people paint themselves pink while remaining gray on the inside, using religious appearance, public performance, or false teaching to mislead others. True holiness is not manufactured by human effort but is actually produced by continual relationship with Yeshua, obedience to His Word, and the work of the Holy Spirit. I also discuss why yesterday’s spiritual meal is not enough for today’s walk. A flamingo does not remain vibrant because of one past meal, and Christians do not remain spiritually strong by relying only on one past prayer, one past sermon, or one past moment of repentance. This sermon is a call to examine our spiritual diet and ask whether we are feeding on the things of God or the cravings of the world. Chronic Pain Warrior: A Young Man's Life Completely Altered By A Single Injury
Send us Fan MailToday, I sit down with Davis Bain, the author of Chronic Pain Warrior, to discuss his life-changing journey through post-concussion syndrome, chronic pain, faith, and rebuilding after loss. Mr. Bain shares how one unexpected hit to the head during Air Force ROTC physical training changed the course of his future, ending his expected path toward a Space Force commission and forcing him to confront a new reality of brain fog, migraines, light sensitivity, depression, and daily physical limitations. In this episode, Mr. Bain explains what it is like to live with post-concussion syndrome after a traumatic brain injury, including the frustration of being told by doctors to “give it more time” while his symptoms continued to worsen. We discuss the grief of losing a planned career, the isolation that can come with chronic illness, and the mental health challenges that many people face when their body no longer allows them to live the life they once expected.Mr. Bain also shares how his Christian faith was challenged by suffering, especially when well-meaning people offered poor theology around healing, pain, and God’s purpose. He talks about reading Scripture from Genesis to Revelation, wrestling with the sovereignty of God, and learning that God can use suffering without abandoning the person who suffers. Together, we discuss why the church must become better at weeping with those who weep instead of rushing to fix, correct, or minimize their pain.We also highlight Mr. Bain’s book, Chronic Pain Warrior, which is written for people living with chronic pain, traumatic brain injuries, mental health struggles, and the friends and family members who want to support them well.https://www.chronicpainwarrior.com/Website: https://coupleonukes.comDiscounted Military Creator Con Tickets: http://militarycreatorcon.com/register?afmc=MCCMWExodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes?
