Today, I'm incredibly excited because I'm sitting down with one of my best friends, Dave Monnig from Coast Airbrush - a friendship that spans over 35 years. This episode isn't just about airbrushing or a specific craft. It's about entrepreneurship, creativity, drive, and grit. If you're someone who wants to truly design your life instead of just letting life happen to you, this conversation is for you. In this episode of Creating a Life by Design, I have one of my great friends and personal trainers, Zach Wade, joining me! Close your eyes and imagine the biggest tree you’ve ever seen in your life. Now imagine yourself taking a quick break to sit and lean against it. Griffin has big goals for the future and success on her radar. Travel is in her DNA, so destination film locations further North and Europe are in her sights once she graduates. She would love to direct an original narrative work alongside the dream of someday working on a Warner Brothers lot. In her free time, when she has it, you can find her curled up with a good book. In this episode, I have the pleasure of introducing you to Karen Yates. She is a long-time friend and someone I’ve had the privilege to work alongside as I’ve ventured through the world of publishing. I’ve gained tremendous insight into what it takes to write a book and all that it entails, from paper to print. She's real. She's honest. And if you have ever thought of writing a book, this is an episode you DO NOT want to miss! Karen graduated from Westmont College in 1998 as an English major. She worked in the non-profit sector for 12 years as a Director of Communications, overseeing direct and online marketing efforts, fundraising funnels, receipt and donor relations, public relations, and product offerings. During that season, on the side, Karen would help the Yates & Yates team by reviewing manuscripts, helping shape messages, sharpening marketing plans, cover direction, and platform coaching. Her first Yates & Yates project was in 2001, and she hasn’t looked back!  Karen is responsible for discovering talents like Katie Davis Majors and Jennie Allen. She has also published multiple articles through Relevant Magazine, Christianity Today, and the Washington Post. Karen officially joined Yates & Yates in 2015 as a literary agent. As a right-brained INFJ and Enneagram 4 w 3, Karen brings a unique twist to the Yates & Yates team, offering intuition, ideation, leadership, and excellence in execution. In her spare time, she enjoys the mountains, pine trees, puzzles, and playing piano, and she has been a worship leader at her church for over 20 years. She is married to Curtis, and together they have three teenage children. What better way to wrap up 2023 than with two of my favorite people, Scott and Chrysti Burroughs!? We've shared countless hours together strategizing business plans, projects, and life. The amount of laughs in between is endless. They have a fantastic story to share of what it truly means to pursue and persevere through the unexpected.  Scott “Scooter” Burroughs is a painter, illustrator, designer, and lover of all things mid-century modern. He graduated with his BA from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, California, in 1994. Upon graduation, he worked as a video game animator and conceptual artist for Sega before being hired by Walt Disney Feature Animation. Scooter worked for 10 years for Disney as an animator on movies and mentor for new artists. His credits include Pocahontas, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Mulan, Tarzan, Fantasia 2000, The Emperor’s New Groove, Lilo And Stitch, Brother Bear and several shorts. When the Florida animation studio closed its doors in 2004, he moved back to Colorado and began a career in illustration, fine art painting, and design. To this day, he continues to work with Disney as a fine artist. Chrysti is a wife, mom, business owner, and entrepreneur. She has co-authored several children’s books, including The Christmas Tail of Sampson, The Silly-Looking Sock Monkey, The Super Short, Amazing Story of David & Goliath, and The Super Short, Amazing Story of Daniel in the Lions’ Den. Scooter and Chrysti are high school sweethearts and have always loved the mid-century modern commercial style from the 40’s through the 70’s. Scooter’s distinct artistic style has been formed by a love and passion for the images from that era. Scooter's fun and playful paintings and illustrations celebrate the style of the past and give life to a modern-day retro style of all the things he loves most. Scooter and Chrysti both have a passion for helping others. They partner with an amazing organization called Acres of Love, whose mission is to rescue and care for children abandoned or orphaned due to AIDS, abuse, extreme poverty, and those with special needs in South Africa. “We get so much joy and excitement in our hearts about changing the world through creativity, hope, and love. Becky Turner is the Director of Operations for Priority Living, as well as the President and Founder of KBT Consulting. Becky’s heart is to serve women in life coaching and non-profits in strategic planning and development. She desires to see women live lives of peace, purpose, and passion. Her life reflects this desire both personally as well as professionally. Before Christ, Becky Turner had made a complete mess of her life – relationally, financially, and especially spiritually. In 1992, when she came to the end of herself and cried out to God, He graciously swooped in, lifted her out of the pit of her own making, and set her feet on a solid Rock. Since that time, the Lord has done amazing work as bit by bit and inch-by-inch, He has delivered, transformed, and renewed Becky to become the woman of God she is today. Becky has been blessed to minister around the world and experience God’s work in the villages of Africa, the high-rise apartments of Moscow, and the streets of downtown Atlanta and Houston. Becky graduated from Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, with a degree in Communications, and, for now, God has called her to walk in the gift of singleness. In this very special episode, I had the privilege of talking with a very dear friend of mine, Martha Blanding. Martha and I have a great history together, and I’m excited to sit down with her and share some of the memories of working together. The strategies I have learned and the wisdom I have gained throughout the years from her play a significant role in my business and life. I’m excited and honored to have her share her unique story and knowledge with you. Martha Blanding began her extraordinary run with Disney in May 1971 as Disneyland’s first-ever Black Tour Guide, launching an impressive five-decades-long career at “The Happiest Place on Earth” in Anaheim, California. In less than a year, she was promoted to VIP Tour Hostess, touring legendary entertainment notables such as Diana Ross, Elton John, Olivia Newton-John, Cary Grant, Rock Hudson, and numerous domestic and international government officials, including a delegation from the USSR.    Martha soon became the first-ever Black female in management at Disneyland, becoming an expert merchandise, candy, and film buyer and eventually the Senior Manager of Disneyland Resort Merchandise Special Events. In this role, she worked with world-renowned artisans, celebrities, and Disney Legends such as Lladro, Armani, Christopher Radko, Julie Andrews, Marie Osmond, Annette Funicello, and countless Disney artists and Imagineers including Marc Davis, Alice Davis, Marty Sklar, John Hench, Tony Baxter, Frank Thomas, Ollie Johnson, Ilene Woods, Tyrus Wong, the Oscar-winning songwriting team of the Sherman brothers, and many more. Along the way, she helped pioneer and produce the Official Disneyana Convention, a forerunner of today's D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Experience.   In addition to mentoring and inspiring many, Martha co-founded PULSE, a Business Employee Resource Group (BERG) for Black cast members and employees. Welcome to my brand new podcast, "Creating a Life by Design with Noah Elias."  My name is Noah Elias, your host, I just wanted to take a moment and share this exciting announcement and introduction with you. This is a big deal for me! I've been waiting to release this podcast for a while. And the time is NOW! Over 35 years ago, I started my business the old-school way... going door to door on a bike. Eventually, this led to growing a few companies and using my business as a mission to underwrite things that have generosity and to help build God's kingdom. I'm a man of faith, and a big part of this show is all about what the last 35 years have looked like. But the greatest takeaways in that time for me have been the relationships and the people that I have met along the way, whether it's creativity, whether it's business, personal development, leadership, overcoming obstacles in the marketplace, you name it, boy, I have just got a treasure trove of interviews and those that I've sat down with here in my studio and at the lodge and this was a show that was designed just to be able to allow you to come inside my life, those that I've worked with and those that I still work with and be able to share a lot of the things that they've gained strategies to live life on purpose.
