The Four Types of No — And Why Only One of Them Is Final
The Four Types of No — And Why Only One of Them Is Final... Continued Last week on The Closers Inner Circle Podcast, Ben Gay III and I broke down objections. This week we go one step further — into what happens when the objection becomes a "no." Because here's what most salespeople never learn: there isn't one "no." There are four. 1) Not now. 2) Not this version. 3) Not this price. 4) Not ever. Each one demands a completely different response — and confusing them is how good closers walk away from deals that were never actually dead. ▸ Rejection is intelligence, not a verdict. Amateurs hear "no" and file the deal under lost. Closers hear "no" and start reading and going back through conversations — because buried in that answer is a specific diagnosis of what still has to change before the next attempt. ▸ The infiltration parallel. A failed entry doesn't mean the target is permanently inaccessible. It means this approach, at this time, wasn't right. The professional regroups, adjusts, and comes back — same instinct, different battlefield. This is Sales Infiltration in its purest form. (Page 257 in The Closers, Pt 1 - the most important work that Ben has ever written) ▸ The reversal window. A significant share of "no" decisions flip within six to twelve months, once budgets reset, people move, and priorities shift. The only closers who are there to collect are the ones who stayed in the relationship — professionally, patiently — the entire time. The objection is the conversation. The "no" is the map. You can find The Closers Books (AKA as the Sales Bibles) at Ronzone Books on eBay. SPONSORED BY: This episode is sponsored by Bradley Rausch. Ben and I spent today on what to do when someone tells you no. Bradley works the opposite problem. If you run a coaching or consulting offer doing six to seven figures, you might not have a lead problem — you have a "what happens after yes" problem. Bradley helps founder-led programs fix onboarding, renewals, and referrals, so every good client is worth one and a half to two times more, without cranking ad spend. Learn more at bradleyrausch.com. Not Every No Is a Dead Deal: The 4 Types of Rejection Every Master Closer Knows
Not Every "No" Is a Dead Deal: The 4 Types of Rejection Every Closer Must Master - A conversation with master closer Ben Gay III Most salespeople hear "no" and file the deal under "lost forever." Master closers know better — a no is rarely the end of the story. It's data. In this episode: ▸ The four types of no — not now, not this version, not this price, and not ever. Each one demands a completely different response. Confuse them, and you'll walk away from deals that were never actually closed. ▸ Rejection as intelligence, not verdict — Amateurs treat every lost sale as a permanent door slam. Closers treat it as a signal telling them exactly what still needs to change before the next attempt. ▸ The infiltration parallel — A failed entry doesn't mean the target is permanently inaccessible. It means this approach, at this time, wasn't right. The professional regroups, adjusts, and tries again — same instinct, different battlefield. ▸ The reversal window — A significant share of "no" decisions flip within 6-12 months once circumstances shift. The only closers who benefit are the ones who stayed in the relationship, professionally, the whole time. Get Your Copies of The Closers Before we wrap up — if today's conversation with Ben Gay III got you fired up, you need to get your hands on The Closers. These books have been called the sales bible for a reason — generations of top producers have built their careers on what's inside these pages. You can find them on eBay through Ronzone Books, and right now shipping is free. Don't just listen to Ben's wisdom today — go own them and make them part of your entrepreneurial library. SPONSORED BY: Today's episode is brought to you by Randy Chaffee — someone who knows a thing or two about staying in the game after a 'no.' Randy represents manufacturers and serves customers across the post-frame, metal building, and residential roofing industries, where deals rarely close on the first conversation. He's also the author of the #1 Amazon Best Seller Asphalt and Algorithms, and he built his business on trust, visibility, and authentic connection — the same qualities Ben and I are talking about today when it comes to turning a 'not yet' into a 'yes.' If you're in the building or roofing space and want to work with someone who plays the long game right, look up Randy Chaffee on LinkedIn and go from there. AI won't kill sales — it'll kill mediocre sales.
AI won't kill sales — it'll kill mediocre sales. Everyone's obsessing over AI stealing the sales floor. Meanwhile, the smartest sellers are quietly doubling down on the one thing automation can't fake: trust. In this episode, we dig into why slower decisions, tighter budgets, and higher-stakes buying committees are making emotional intelligence — not tech stacks — the real differentiator in 2026. If your close rate depends on a chatbot, you're already losing. Every "AI will replace salespeople" headline is wrong — and 2026's numbers prove it. Budgets are tighter, deals are slower, and buying committees are more paranoid than ever. That's not a problem for AI to solve. It's a trust problem, and trust is human territory. Ben Gay III and Denise Griffitts make the case that the sales reps leaning hardest into empathy, transparency, and read-the-room instincts are the ones eating everyone else's pipeline. The Silent Skill That Separates Good Closers from Great Ones in Sales
The Silent Skill That Separates Good Closers from Great Ones: Emotional Intelligence in Sales Today on The Closers Inner Circle Podcast with hosts Denise Griffitts and Ben Gay III we tackle: How do the best closers in the world know what a prospect is really thinking — even when they're not saying it? It's not magic. It's not manipulation. It's emotional intelligence, and in this episode of The Closers Inner Circle Podcast, Ben breaks down how to sharpen it deliberately — and why most salespeople never do. Presence First You can't read what you're not paying attention to. Before any technique, any strategy, any close — there's presence. The first discipline of emotional intelligence is getting out of your own head and fully into the room. Most salespeople are so focused on what they're about to say next that they miss everything the prospect is showing them right now. What are you actually paying attention to on your calls? The closers who grow fastest aren't always the ones with the most calls. They're the ones who study their calls. Reviewing your own behavior and your prospect's responses after every conversation — until pattern recognition becomes instinctive — is one of the highest-leverage habits in sales. What would you find if you honestly reviewed your last ten calls? Your observation muscle doesn't only get built on sales calls. Ben talks about studying people in restaurants, in meetings, in social situations — low-stakes environments where you can watch human behavior without anything on the line. The closer who trains their eye everywhere shows up sharper everywhere. SPONSORED BY: This episode is brought to you by our friend and colleague Cynthia Kay AKA C.K. The Teaching Power of Stories In Sales
Why Stories Are the Greatest Teachers: Lessons in Sales, Leadership, and Life with Ben Gay III - The Closers Inner Circle Podcast Today on The Closers Inner Circle Podcast, Ben Gay III and I are talking about why stories are the greatest teachers. Throughout history, stories have been the way people passed along wisdom, lessons, and experience from one generation to the next. Facts and figures may be important, but people tend to remember stories because they create emotional connections and help us see ourselves in the lesson. Whether you're in sales, business, leadership, or simply navigating life, many of the most valuable things you've ever learned probably came from someone's experience rather than a textbook. We'll explore why stories are so powerful, how they help people understand complex ideas, why great salespeople are often great storytellers, and how your own life experiences can become valuable lessons for others. Along the way, Ben will share some of the stories and insights that have shaped his remarkable career and explain why a well-told story can often teach more than a thousand facts. SPONSORED BY: Are you a leader ready for expansion? Many leaders feel called to a bigger mission, a larger platform, or greater influence, but something seems to hold them back. Often, the limitation isn't external. It's internal capacity. Stephen K. De Silva helps leaders expand their ability to handle greater responsibility, greater opportunity, and greater financial stewardship through his Prosperous Soul® frameworks. If you're ready for growth that is sustainable, meaningful, and aligned with your purpose, visit StephenKDeSilva.com and take the next step toward your full potential. The American Justice System, including our Rule of Law
Today’s conversation is about The American Justice System, including our Rule of Law with returning guest Larry Aldrich. Larry Aldrich is the co-author of What’s Right with America: …And How We Can Keep It That Way!, a book that takes a clear, grounded look at the United States through history, data, and the principles that have helped shape and sustain it. Together with co-author Paul Johnson, he makes the case that America’s real strength doesn’t come from slogans or politics, but from something deeper: individual responsibility, the rule of law, and a system of checks and balances that keeps everything working as it should. It’s a perspective that’s both data-driven and optimistic — focused on what’s working, why it works, and why those foundations still matter today. Today on The Closers Inner Circle Podcast, we’re continuing our deep dive into Sales Infiltration—what it truly means in practice, how it breaks away from traditional “pitch and persuade” selling, and why Ben considers it the strongest sales work he’s ever written. We’ll also shift into the mindset behind it: what sets a master closer apart from everyone else, how deep awareness of human behavior shapes every step of the process, and whether this level of skill can actually be learned and developed—or if it’s reserved for a select few who naturally operate at that level. If you want to get the most out of this conversation, grab your copies of The Closers Parts 1 and 2 on eBay at Ronzone Books and follow along with us. Then try just one Sales Infiltration technique this week and pay attention to how differently people respond. We’d love to hear what you discover, so connect with us and keep the conversation going. How to Handle Any Objection Without Losing Control of the Conversation
"Don't Flinch: How to Handle Any Objection Without Losing Control of the Conversation" The Closers Inner Circle Podcast — Sales Infiltration Masterclass We are deep in the Sales Infiltration masterclass — drawn from page 257 of The Closers Part 2 — and if you've been with us from the beginning, you already know: every week, we go deeper, we go sharper, and we come out on the other side better equipped to close sales. If you're just joining us — welcome! You're absolutely welcome to start here, but we do encourage you to go back to the earlier episodes in this series. It builds. Each layer matters. This week, we're tackling something every salesperson faces every single day, and most of them handle it wrong. Objections. Specifically: how do you respond to the most common objections without losing your footing, losing your composure, or losing control of the conversation? Because here's the truth — and Ben has said this for decades — an objection is not a stop sign. It's a signal. And once you understand what that signal is really saying, you stop dreading objections and start welcoming them. Ben Gay III has trained more top closers than almost anyone alive. He learned from the best — including the legendary Dr. Napoleon Hill — and he has distilled over 50 years of field-tested wisdom into The Closers books. If closing deals matters to you, Ronzone Books on eBay is where you’ll find The Closer’s books. I’m Denise Griffitts, and this is part of our Sales Infiltration Series with my co-host, the legendary Ben Gay III. Last week, we talked about something that hit a nerve for a lot of people. This week, we’re answering the question that naturally follows: What do you actually DO in that moment? We’re talking about closing techniques that actually work today. Not theory. Not scripts you forget under pressure. Real strategies, real conversations, and real outcomes. Get your copies of The Closers Parts 1 and 2 — available at Ronzone Books on eBay. Sales Infiltration Series: The Level You’re Playing At Is Costing You Deals with Denise Griffitts and Ben Gay III This is part of our Sales Infiltration series inside The Closers Inner Circle Podcast. Last week, we broke down Levels 2 and 3 — where most reps live: grinding harder and getting better… but still reacting to the buyer. This week, we’re resetting the foundation with Level 1 and then jumping ahead to Level 4 — because if you don’t understand this gap, you’ll never reach true Sales Infiltration. Level 1: Script Follower You rely on the script. You sound solid… until the buyer goes off-script. Then everything slows down. Level 4: Frame Controller You’re not reacting anymore. You’re leading. The buyer feels like it was their idea. The Questions: Look at your last 3 lost deals: Where did I lose control? Was I leading or reacting? When did the deal shift? What would Level 4 me have done differently? Write it down. Get your copies of The Closers Parts 1 and 2 — available at Ronzone Books on eBay. Leading Through Cancer: How Entrepreneurs Stay Resilient During Diagnosis and Treatment with Deb Krier Today’s episode on Your Partner In Success Radio is a powerful and deeply human conversation about what happens when life doesn’t just interrupt your plans, it completely rewrites them. My guest, Deb Krier, is an entrepreneur, cancer advocate, and strategic advisor who has spent her career helping others find their voice and lead with clarity. Sales Infiltration: The Levels of Salesmanship
The Levels of Salesmanship: Where You Are and How to Climb The ladder from rookie to Master Closer to Sales Infiltrator — and what each level actually looks like in the field. You're working just as hard as you were six months ago — maybe harder — but you're not closing more deals. Something's off, and you feel it. Most reps are stuck between Level 2 and 3 without knowing it — they think grinding harder is the answer. It's not. Over the next few episodes, we're going to work through every level of salesmanship — what it looks like, what it costs you to stay there, and exactly how to start operating at the level above where you think you are. So stay locked in, because where you end up in this game depends entirely on which level you're willing to play at. Level 1: The Rookie Script-dependent. Follows the playbook. Needs every step mapped out. Survives on energy, not skill. Level 2: The Grinder Closes through volume and persistence. Knows the pitch cold but stalls when buyers go off-script Level 3: The Skilled Closer Reads objections. Adapts in real time. Knows which lever to pull. Consistent monthly quota-hitter. Level 4: Master Closer Controls the frame. Buyers feel they made the decision themselves. Makes it look effortless. Level 5: Sales Infiltrator Operates beyond the pitch. Embeds into buying decisions, power structures, and trust networks before the sale begins. Read the chapter about Sales Infiltration in The Closers Pt 2, page 257. Ben has always said that this is the most important thing that he has ever written. The Ask: Pull up the last three deals you lost and get curious about them — not frustrated, curious. Ask yourself one question for each one: what level was I actually operating at when this fell apart? Not the level you think you're at. The level you were actually at in that moment. Write it down. That answer is going to tell you more about where your game really is than any quota report ever will. Get your copies of The Closers Parts 1 and 2 — available at Ronzone Books on eBay. Here's why these matter: everything we're breaking down on this show — the levels, the frameworks, the field tactics — it all lives in these pages. Ben Gay III didn't pull this stuff from a whiteboard. It came from the field, and these books are where it was documented. If you're serious about climbing these levels, you need to be working from the same source material we're working from. Who Are You Becoming? Jonathan Fanning on Purpose, Wake-Up Calls, and Living Intentionally What if the most important question you ever ask yourself isn’t about what you’re achieving—but who you’re becoming? In this thought-provoking episode of Your Partner In Success Radio, Denise Griffitts sits down with leadership development expert, speaker, and author Jonathan Fanning to explore the defining moments, mindset shifts, and intentional decisions that shape not just success—but identity. Jonathan’s work challenges the idea of drifting through life on autopilot. Instead, he invites us to take ownership of our direction, our decisions, and ultimately, the person we are becoming every single day. Drawing from powerful personal stories—including a life-altering car accident—Jonathan shares how wake-up calls can become turning points. He also unpacks what it truly means to listen deeply, act courageously, and “happen to the world” instead of letting the world happen to you. This is not surface-level motivation. Today, he’s shaping the next generation of physician leaders at UT Dallas and UT Southwestern, while speaking and writing about what truly drives better healthcare—leadership, mindset, and physician well-being. In this conversation, we take a hard look at what’s really happening in healthcare—and why so many physicians are exhausted, overwhelmed, and questioning their purpose. Don challenges the idea that doctors are the problem and instead points to a system under strain, while sharing how mindset, connection, and community can help physicians move beyond burnout and back to a life—and career—that actually feels meaningful. The Closers - What a Great Mentorship Looks Like
The Closers Inner Circle Podcast with Denise Griffitts and Ben Gay III - What a Great Mentorship Looks Like A mentor is not your manager, your accountability partner, or the person responsible for your success. If you’re expecting someone to build your career for you, you’re going to be disappointed. Mentorship doesn’t work that way. It’s not about being carried. It’s about being guided. This is where most people get it wrong. If you want a mentor to invest in you, you have to give them a reason. Show up prepared. Take action on what they tell you. Don’t ask the same question twice, and respect their time. And just as important, bring value back. Even if you’re new, you can bring effort, energy, and a fresh perspective. Mentorship is not a one-way street. On the other side, a good mentor isn’t just there to encourage you. They’re there to tell you the truth, even when it’s uncomfortable. They set clear boundaries, they don’t overextend themselves, and they teach you how to think, not just what to do. A real mentor helps you become independent, not dependent. Most mentorships don’t actually end, they just fade out. Usually because there’s no follow-through, expectations were never made clear, or one person is doing all the work. Access without action is wasted opportunity, and that’s where a lot of these relationships quietly fall apart. A strong mentorship is built on mutual respect, consistency, and real growth. Over time, something shifts. It starts to feel less like a mentor and mentee relationship and more like a conversation between peers. That’s when you know it’s working. If you’re looking for a mentor, don’t just ask who can help you. Ask yourself if you are someone a great mentor would want to invest in. Because they are out there. But they choose people who show up, do the work, and take it seriously. Finding Happiness: From Breakdown to Breakthrough with Todd Patkin Welcome back to Your Partner In Success Radio. I’m Denise Griffitts, and as always, I’m honored that you’re spending part of your day with us. Today’s conversation is one that I think will resonate deeply with so many of you—especially if you’ve ever chased success, checked all the boxes, and still found yourself wondering… why don’t I feel happier? My guest today is Todd Patkin. Todd is the author of Finding Happiness: One Man’s Quest to Beat Depression and Anxiety, and his story is both powerful and incredibly relatable. From the outside, Todd had everything—business success, financial security, the kind of life many people strive for. But behind the scenes, he was struggling in ways that success alone couldn’t fix. What makes this conversation so important is that Todd didn’t just face those challenges—he worked through them, and today he helps others do the same as a happiness coach and what he calls a “Chief Happiness Officer.” We’re going to talk about the hidden cost of perfectionism, why traditional definitions of success often leave us feeling empty, and what it really takes to build authentic happiness—not the kind that looks good on paper, but the kind that actually feels good in your life. We’ll also dig into practical strategies for managing stress and anxiety, the role of giving back, and how we can help the next generation avoid falling into that same pressure trap. Navigating the Jungle of Drivers Education
Navigating the Jungle of Drivers Education with Cheryl Price Today, we’re diving into a topic most people don’t think about until it’s too late: driver’s education. Not just how to pass a test, but how to create safe, confident drivers — and the real challenges behind the system. Let me ask you something… When was the last time you really thought about driver’s education? Not just learning how to pass a test, but what it actually takes to create safe, confident drivers in a world filled with distractions, overcrowded systems, and not nearly enough resources. Because here’s the reality. Traffic-related injuries and fatalities are rising, and much of it comes down to distraction, lack of proper training, and systems that simply can’t keep up anymore. The Closers Inner Circle Podcast - The Long View
The Closers Inner Circle Podcast - The Long View with Denise Griffitts and Ben Gay III As we close out this 10-part series on The Closers Inner Circle Podcast, we’re stepping back to take in the full picture. Not the quick wins. Not the short bursts of motivation. But the long view. Because real success in sales—the kind that lasts—is never accidental. It’s built over time, through choices, habits, and principles we decide are worth carrying forward. Longevity is intentional. And today is about deciding what stays with you. Anyone can sprint. But the people who truly succeed—the ones who build something meaningful, something sustainable—are the ones who think beyond the moment. They ask: What am I building that will still matter a year from now? What habits am I reinforcing every single day? What principles are guiding my decisions when no one is watching?
