How should we view materialism? | Counter Cultural

Full blog: https://www.bendchurch.org/post/a-theology-of-counter-cultural-living In this episode, we explore the issue of materialism and its impact on our faith journey. Starting with a call to humility and love, we reflect on Jesus' warning against judgmental attitudes and the need for grace in our interactions. We then look into historical examples, such as the Protestant Reformation, to illustrate the dangers of prioritizing wealth over spiritual values. Drawing from biblical passages, we ponder fundamental questions about our relationship with money and its role in our lives. The podcast highlights the importance of financial stewardship and helping those in need, urging listeners to shift from greedy capitalism to a Godly, blessing-focused mindset. Ultimately, materialism is presented as a distraction from spiritual blessings and our connection with Jesus. Listeners are encouraged to examine their attitudes towards money and prioritize eternal treasures over worldly riches. Through reflection and action, we're called to embrace sacrificial love and compassionate service to others as true disciples of Christ.

"How do we navigate Hell in light of god's love?" | The End

full blog: https://www.bendchurch.org/post/a-theology-of-the-end The uncomfortable topic of hell is a subject that Jesus, surprisingly, spoke about more than anyone else in the Bible. There is a common disbelief in hell's existence. The central question emerges: How can a loving God condemn individuals to eternal suffering? God's love is inseparable from His justice, pointing to the cross as the embodiment of both. Without the reality of hell, God's justice, our freedom to choose, Jesus' truthfulness, the necessity of salvation, and the true nature of heaven would lose their significance. God doesn't abruptly switch from love to wrath. God's patience and provision of escape reassure us. Knowing and fearing God ultimately eliminate other fears.

What was the meaning and mode of baptism in the early church? | brief baptism history part 2

What was the meaning and mode of baptism in the early church? We delve into the historical evolution of baptism practices and their theological significance. Starting with the early church fathers and the ante-Nicene period, we explore the roots of Christian baptism, emphasizing its connection to the remission of sins and the initiation into the faith community through immersion. Notably, figures like Justin Martyr, Tertullian, and Cyprian play pivotal roles in shaping early Christian beliefs about baptism. We examine the emergence of infant baptism and pouring as alternative practices in the third century, fueled by exceptional circumstances and the evolving sociopolitical landscape. Despite these shifts, the consensus throughout this period remained centered on baptism as a means of grace for the forgiveness of sins. As we conclude, we set the stage for our next exploration into the 16th-century Protestant Reformation and the restoration of certain baptismal elements. What is Holiness and why is it Important?

Holiness is a lifestyle of separation from self-rule to kingdom-rule. It is important because holiness reveals a people dedicated to God. Holiness is a marker of kingdom life. Read 1 Peter 1:15. Is this really doable? How? If holiness is a lifestyle of separation from self-rule to kingdom-rule, what are some ways this concept might apply to modern-day believers? Why did Peter tell the early Christians, “Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable” (1 Peter 2:12, ESV)? How can you apply this in your context today? Why is it important for disciples of Jesus to stand in contradiction to the culture of the land? What is at stake if we don’t? The early church sought to win people to the kingdom, not by violence, but by service to the kingdom. What would that look like today?
