    David and Sue’s last commute

Here it is, the very last Driving You Mad Driving You Crazy Friday Drive with David and Sue. As promised, it’s a love fest. David and Sue love their listeners, listeners love David and Sue. Request hour includes songs suited to the occasion plus a couple, in full in this podcast, which got a lot of mentions over the years but very little, if any, airtime because they are so ….. (fill in the blank!) And to save them for posterity, here are some of the one-liner gems used as programme IDs, introduced with a straight face (or voice) by the wonderful Luke Gallagher. How did he manage to do that?! Treasure this very special podcast. The post David and Sue’s last commute appeared first on Driving You Mad, Driving You Crazy.

    Friday Drive – DYMDYC

Rude gas, tattoos, greeting cards, chim chiminey chim chiminey chimneysweeps, tattoos, art at Manyung Gallery amongst the fun and dangerous pleasures of Flinders in Victoria, cold soup – yes or no, oh! Sue’s tattoo – again. To top off proceedings … Request Hour is the daggiest of daggy songs. Ooh yes! Driving you mad, driving you crazy! It’s what David and Sue do. Great Times

Sue is much improved but still away so it’s the David and Alex show, part 2, in this Queen’s Birthday long weekend broadcast. Listeners share great stories of times when they could get out to concerts, gigs and more. There is a point at which Alex has to be told what a panel van is. 😮 Request Hour is E for Elizabeth, i.e. the 2nd, i.e. the Queen. But one song reminds us of the weekend’s other events, marches and other initiatives to show that Black Lives Matter. The post Great Times appeared first on Driving You Mad, Driving You Crazy.

There’s also those iso issues …. not knowing what day it is, changed sleep patterns, entertainment – have you caught up with JOY TV? And Request Hour is songs starting with S for Sue. Interview: Hannah Fox – Rising Festival

Hannah Fox joins David and Sue to talk about Melbourne’s newest festival which sadly did not début in 2020, as planned, but is looking forward to 2021 with even bigger ideas for both artists and audiences.  Taking the place of the Melbourne International Arts Festival and White Night Melbourne, RISING is a major cultural event for the Asia Pacific Region created by a diverse team of local, national and international artists and curators. There is a call-out for even more ideas and participants, with grants available. Seize the opportunity!! What else is there to do in Virus Lock-down but binge? Listeners share their favourite TV and streaming shows, a bit of food and drink and, for Request Hour, favourite LGBTIQA+ songs. But lock-down won’t last forever. Hannah Fox phones in to tell all about Rising, a new festival in Melbourne that was supposed to start this year but is now looking ahead to May 26 to June 6, 2021. Cake on the beach and other food fads

David loves the weather, apart from the cold, and waxes lyrical about autumn. That’s probably the high point of the show. This week’s Request Hour, all about food, brought a deluge of requests which gave rise to too much singing from David and Sue – to be fair, any singing from them is too much! It also sets Sue off complaining about, amongst other things, citrus peel in hot cross buns and marmalade. Fussy or wot? Of course, it’s perfectly sensible of David to dislike mock duck. There’s also an interview with Ivan Sun from Low Rez talking about what’s happening at the moment with the choir. We’re ditching the corona tag. This week lockdown restrictions have been eased. But keep taking care people – we don’t want that tag back again! The post Cake on the beach and other food fads appeared first on Driving You Mad, Driving You Crazy.

    Corona No.6 – It’s Radiothon!!!

Can you spare a cup of coffee for JOY? David and Sue are back in the building, but in different studios, for JOY 2020 Radiothon. David organised the interviews with Member No.1, John Oliver, and Emily from gardenhouse.studios the day before she painted an amazing mural at the Pride Centre construction site. Sue puts on make-up for money and Alex does push-ups. Con also begs you to give. Because the short message is …. JOY 94.9 needs $$$$$ to stay on air. Please give – JOY represents you because JOY IS YOU. Donate, subscribe, join, renew at www.joy.org.au Look at this simple fact …. It costs $2 to keep JOY broadcasting on-air for one minute.. that’s $120 an hour and $2880 a day. JOY has 589,000 listeners per month. Only 0.4% of our listeners support us financially. If each listener who can afford to donated $5 (that’s the price of a cup of coffee) we would be able to broadcast for two years! Could you do that please? Corona No.5 – Going crazyeeeeeee

Friday Drive is acing it, keeping it real – mad and crazy – in this episode. Con and Geoffrey make appearances amidst the mayhem. But there is a bonus – some great film suggestions to while away your isolation hours. David and Sue say it’s the technology. But after the show, any fly on the wall will see them cleaning melted chocolate crumbs out of their equipment. Read the memo, David and Sue! Do not eat at your desk includes Easter eggs from last week!! Request hour is songs about directions because the world is going in so many of them right now – except for David! He’s stuck going west. Always! The post Corona No.5 – Going crazyeeeeeee appeared first on Driving You Mad, Driving You Crazy.

    Corona No.4 – It’s Easter!

Lockdown continues. David misses people but, being contrary, he has too much of the backpackers next door. At home Sue is turning into a gardener and baker but on air she goes slightly insane with her Secret Sounds. What are you doing to keep sane? Will you do anything new or different when you break free again? But for now, it’s all about concentrating on Easter Eggs. Corona No.3 – Ten years up!

Welcome to the 10th … is it birthday or anniversary? … edition of Driving You Mad, Driving You Crazy: Friday Drive with David and Sue. Showing that you can teach old dogs new tricks, instead of the “cancelled due to The Virus” party after the show, David and Sue have used up most of their energy learning a whole new techie set-up to bring you the show from David’s beloved St Kilda, Sue’s tofu territory in the northern suburbs, and Con with world news from cosmopolitan Richmond. There are interviews with three people very special to us all: Dan de Rochefort, former President of Globe Jude Monro, board Chair of the Victorian Pride Centre Ro Allen, Victoria’s  Gender and Equality Commissioner The post Corona No.3 – Ten years up! appeared first on Driving You Mad, Driving You Crazy.

    Corona No.2

David is in the studio, Soft-Touch-Sue (listen for her cat story) is back – in the office corner of her living room …. and they’re as crazy as every. Crap drawers, the merits of rubber bands, songs to cook by and dance in the kitchen. Situation normal, you might say. But please people, during these from-a-distance in Virus times, look out for each other and find things that make you happy. And Friday Drive for total distraction! Corona No.1

Welcome to the first edition of Friday Drive in full Coronavirus battle dress. This show was broadcast with David in the studio, Alex, filling in for Sue, from his bedroom and Con with the news from his lounge room. Pandemic shows are shorter than usual as newscasts are longer and a half hour episode of The Informer is going to air 6-6.30 pm Monday to Friday for the duration of the pandemic. May it be over quickly and we all stay well! (And it’s good that podcast sound quality is back to normal!) What is Alex’s bedroom like? Does he have mirrors on the ceiling? Does it need a makeover? Will he follow David’s styling tips? (Let’s hope not!) Keep your spirits up @joy949  @JOYPodcasts The post Corona No.1 appeared first on Driving You Mad, Driving You Crazy.

    Friday the 13th

It was an ominous Friday the 13th when this episode of Friday Drive was broadcast. The theme of the show was music from films with “guess that film” and an interview with MQFF Program Director Spiro Economopoulos being highlights. But The Virus, Covid-19, was also flexing its muscles. Three days after this show went to air the MQFF was suspended. And this was the last Friday Drive for some time with all the team together in the studio. That includes the podcaster who has prepared this at home in the study. All the fun but, apologies, not the usual standard podcast sound quality. When you need a laugh, no matter how trying the conditions, David and Sue will always deliver!  🙂 The post Friday the 13th appeared first on Driving You Mad, Driving You Crazy.

    B-B-B-Bonkers!

This week’s show starts with an interview with Johanna Durand, director at Alliance Française de Melbourne speaking about the 2020 French Film Festival. In particular, Johanna speaks about films that might be of particular interest to members of the JOY family. David takes the week off and it gets crazier than ever. Sue is joined by Geoffrey and Alex in a show that is brought to you by the letter B. (Muppet Show, anyone?) Listeners go Bananas when asked to make sentences from 3/4/5 random words starting with B. They release their inner author, some almost writing short stories. Request hour features the letter B, of course. To top it off, JOY’s techie guru Michael donned Butterfly wings and Blew in and out of the studio Broadcasting Bubbles in his wake. On Mardi Gras Eve

So this week, we have Sue who has taken the wrong tablets (can you tell the difference?!) and David who fills us in on his tap-dancing and theatre career (oh yes?!). It’s the Friday eve of Mardi Gras and Alex phones in from Sydney where he is wearing glitter (anything else?!) in preparation for being in the JOY 94.9 parade contingent. Request hour should have been two hours. Who knew there are so many songs about telephones?! Two of the stars of Billy Elliot arrive in the studio in the middle of all the doziness and craziness to talk with David and Sue. It goes (surprisingly!) well 🙂 The post On Mardi Gras Eve appeared first on Driving You Mad, Driving You Crazy.

David & Sue sing body parts

It’s a short hour in this week’s crazy mad talking hour with David and Sue – there was a glitch in the studio and we’re missing the middle hour. Imagine the laughs… or despair! 🙂 But there’s more than enough here to entertain you. How can David have a cat, what with his apartment overstuffed with snow globes and dwarves? And should Sue be getting her marriage celebrant outfit out of the wardrobe? Listen for the first(?) in a series: David and Sue’s Dating Success Stories. We also have news of Melbourne’s new urban art festival. David and Sue speak with festival director Zoe Paulsen and artist Kaff-eine. Check out the super-informative web page of CAN’T DO TOMORROW and get yourself down there. Request hour is all about body parts. The theme runs through the mayhem. INTERVIEW: Zoe Paulsen, Festival Director & Kaff-eine, Artist on the Can’t Do Tomorrow Festival – On Now #ListenNOW

David & Sue talk to Zoe Paulsen, Festival Director  the Can’t Do Tomorrow Festival which is on at The Facility in Kensington until 29th February 2020. They also talk to Kaff-eine who is one of the street artists at the festival. You can get tickets from the festival website. About the Can’t Do Tomorrow Festival: Between 20 and 29 of February 2020, we’ll be transforming the Facility, Kensington, into an outlandish Eden populated by a crowd more hedonistic than a 90s warehouse rave. More than 100 artists, crews and collectives will descend on the Facility to display (and distribute) work in urban art disciplines as varied as: painting, murals, photography, stencil, sculpture, video, illustration and epic immersive installations. We want to change the way you experience public space. To holler ourselves hoarse about Australia’s urban art scene and inspire (as well as invest in) a new generation of talent. Ultimately, we’re keen to question the very nature of art itself. We don’t pretend to be custodians of the contemporary urban art scene. We’re a micro-movement inside a macro-movement. The underground grows, advances and develops with its own organic energy. We’re just here to provide the platform. About Kaff-eine: Kaff-eine is an established street and contemporary artist recognised for her illustrative freehand style, delicate linework, and quiet melancholic characters. She has painted public and private works in Australia, Germany, France, USA and the Philippines; had successful solo and group exhibitions, and illustrated two children’s books. To celebrate LGBTQI identity and culture, Kaff-eine is creating Infinite Thanks, a collection of small paintings with images and  stories called ‘ex votos’, dedicated to rainbow deities. These will reflect the daily fears, needs, and aspirations of a range of rainbow folk. Kaff-eine will display these paintings inside a purpose-built shrine at the Can’t Do Tomorrow festival. David & Sue talk to Maree Coote from Melbourne Style about her brand new children’s book “Azaria – A True History” which examines the places where wild animals and people meet, where tragedy can strike, because just like the big bad wolf, the dingo is not afraid of you and me. It’s a beautifully illustrated non-fiction picture book that sensitively explores the collision of wilderness and civilisation, explains a famous miscarriage of justice, and examines the role of the media in history-telling, in an appropriate manner for children. You can buy it directly from Melbourne Style and from most bookshops. MAREE COOTE is a writer, designer, illustrator, photographer and publisher. She has enjoyed an award-winning career in advertising and understands Melbourne’s unique advantage well. Her many creative passions converge in her studies of Melbourne’s history, which is the focus of her work in object design and in publishing over the past ten years. Maree is passionate about a sense of place and history, and she brings this to life in multiple platforms for multiple audiences. Her affinity for Melbourne is unique and highly informed. Her skill is bringing ideas to life, and communicating ideas to any audience ‘in whatever form gives them most power: books, artwork, song, stories, design, film…”. After listening to this podcast, you will feel reassured that you are perfectly normal. Under what circumstances might Sue find herself chopped up in the freezer at JOY? In the studio is Maree Coote from MelbourneStyle to talk about her latest book Azaria: A True History telling the story of the disappearance of a baby in the Australian Outback and what followed. INTERVIEW: Matthew Casamento and Adeline Hunter from Young Australian Broadway Chorus on their production of Cats – Jan 17-25 at National Theatre #ListenNOW

David and Alex talk to Matthew Casamento & Adeline Hunter from the Young Australian Broadway Chorus who are performing in their production of the musical “Cats” at the National Theatre in St Kilda from 17 to 25 January 2020. So, who needs to see the movie when you can see this stage production of “Cats” LIVE in January! You can book tickets at the National Theatre website. Here’s some info about the show: In January 2020, the YABC will produce a brand new production of one of the world’s most popular musicals, CATS. Based on TS Elliot’s collection of poems ‘Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats’, and featuring an eclectic score by Andrew Lloyd Webber, CATS has enjoyed record-breaking runs in the West End, on Broadway, and all around the world, and later this year will be released as a major motion picture. Taking its lead from the era of the original poems, which were written by Elliot for his children in the 1930s, our new production will evoke England during the Great Depression. In a crumbling Music Hall, our band of very theatrical Cats will strut and sing and prance and dance as they gather together for the Jellicle Ball.
