Welcome to EKA184! Today we are joined by the incomparable Chris Broach of Braid, The Firebird Band, L'Spaerow, SNST, and most recently...Chris Broach and the Foundation! We talk early days of emo, from touring with American Football and The Get Up Kids to the end of Braid, his thoughts on third wave emo, emo revival, and so much more. We discuss the end of Braid, the reunions, and what "went wrong" for the band in the 90's that led to their break up. Along with this, we touch on all of his other projects from The Firebird Band up until his recent solo endeavor and the new band he has formed for it. Chris is a guy who is constantly chasing something new in the best way and doesn't seem to want to rest on his laurels. The term "novelty" comes up in a very positive way at multiple points and I think it greatly describes his musical pivots over the last 3 decades. Along with the music stuff we also touch on fatherhood and parenting, which is Chris's #1 priority today, as well as the uhh...state of America and the doofuses in charge of it along with our theories for what has caused this mess. Welcome to EKA168! Today is a very special episode as we are joined by Elliott Brabant of Michael Cera Palin for a wide ranging interview that had Robb in tears from both laughter and sadness. Things kick off with a bang as we immediately start by talking about Combat and Freddie Got Fingered which of course leads to Ebert & Roper and then 9/11 and then things just keep on that path. We discuss the deer imagery across the songs and artwork, the hiatus, the return, the state of the scene today and their thoughts on the Sheryl Crow cover all these years later. At one point Amanda has technical issues and Elliott and Robb just nerd out over Emo, as Elliott shared their most controversial opinions on emo as we walked through each wave. This felt like a special episode, EKA at it's finest, if I can break the fourth wall and also gloat at the same time. Skiimo were originally supposed to be on in December of last year but had to cancel last minute. I was supposed to see Skiimo here in SoCal a few weeks later, but I wasn't able to make it. Finally, 6 months later we get a chance to meet. During this conversation with Bryson and Zack, we talk about the bands separate origins in the midwest, moving to Denver, and starting the band.
