[225] Creativity Is a Strength, Not a Gift

Do you think of yourself as creative? Even if you answer yes - and maybe you don't, or maybe you hesitate - you've probably been taught that creativity is a gift. What if it's actually a character strength? And as a character strength it can be developed??Visit the Genius Kaleidoscope on SKOOL for community and conversation.~~~~Michele Jennae is a Genius Hunter and Map Maker.Creator of the EDG Butterfly Map, Founder of EDGx365.comEDGx365.com the home of Every Day Genius

    [224] Building Your Genius Goals

This episode is a practice. Two days ago we established that not all goals are created equal — that approach goals, oriented toward whatyou're moving toward rather than what you're moving away from, generate more sustained energy and more genuine development.~~~~Want to schedule a free Flight Check to see if coaching is right for you? [223] A Strength Called Prudence

What do you think of when you hear the word prudence? Caution, right? Or timidity. That's only half the story. And each half has another half, because there's an upside and an underside to each half. ~~~~The link mentioned in the episode: Take the Genius Imprint AssessmentMichele Jennae is a Genius Hunter and Map Maker.Creator of the EDG Butterfly Map, Founder of EDGx365.comEDGx365.com the home of Every Day Genius

[222] Not All Goals Are Created Equal

Most of us were taught to set goals by people who had no idea what kind of mind we had. The frameworks we inherited — SMART goals, vision boards, quarterly targets, the relentless optimization ofachievement — were built for a particular kind of thinker. Linear, singular, outcome-driven. Someone who picks a destination, makes a plan, executes the plan, checks the box. For that kind of mind, those tools work reasonably well. What about for the rest of us?~~~~Visit the Genius Kaleidoscope on SKOOL for community and conversation.~~~~Michele Jennae is a Genius Hunter and Map Maker.Creator of the EDG Butterfly Map, Founder of EDGx365.comEDGx365.com the home of Every Day Genius

[221] Designing Your Tension on Purpose

This episode is a practice. The last two days we've built the concept — structural tension as the creative force generated by clearly holding your current reality and your desired reality at the same time. The gapthat is not a problem, but an engine. Today we build yours on purpose. This is not goal-setting in the conventional sense. ~~~~ Visit the Genius Kaleidoscope on SKOOL for community and conversation.~~~~Michele Jennae is a Genius Hunter and Map Maker.Creator of the EDG Butterfly Map, Founder of EDGx365.comEDGx365.com the home of Every Day Genius

  6. 214

[220] Vision Without Structure Is a Dream

When talking about setting and achieving goals, structural tension doesn't work automatically. There's a condition that has to be met. You have to be able to hold both sides simultaneously. If one side collapses, the tension collapses. Andwhen the tension collapses, the engine goes quiet.~~~~The link mentioned in the episode: Take the Genius Imprint AssessmentMichele Jennae is a Genius Hunter and Map Maker.Creator of the EDG Butterfly Map, Founder of EDGx365.comEDGx365.com the home of Every Day Genius

  7. 213

[219] The Gap Is Not the Problem

Most of us live with a fear or otherwise unhealthy relationship with the gap in goal setting. This gap is structural tension, the relationship between two things: where you are right now, and where you want to be. The gap isn't a problem. It's the engine.~~~~Want to schedule a free Flight Check to see if coaching is right for you? [217] The Questions that Open Doors

There’s a kind of question that closes things down. You know the type. The question that’s really an answer wearing a question mark. And then there’s the other kind. The question that genuinelydoesn’t know its own answer. The one that sits with you after the conversation ends and keeps rearranging things. The one that, six months later, you realize was the actual beginning of something. That’s the kind we’re interested in today.~~~~The link mentioned in the episode: Take the Genius Imprint AssessmentMichele Jennae is a Genius Hunter and Map Maker.Creator of the EDG Butterfly Map, Founder of EDGx365.comEDGx365.com the home of Every Day Genius

We’re going to do something I’m calling the Identity Audit — a structured reflection that helps you separate what you are from what you do, and locate the Genius underneath the résumé.It is not a test you pass or fail. It’s a structured way of looking at yourself . You’re going to need a few minutes with this one. [214] A Strength Called Honesty

The VIA Character Strengths framework names twenty-four strengths. And of all of them, Honesty might be the most misunderstood. We are more likely to think of honesty as how we relate to others, but it begins within ourselves first.Seeing yourself clearly takes courage, because once you see who you truly are, you have to take responsibility for that.~~~~The link mentioned in the episode: Take the Genius Imprint AssessmentMichele Jennae is a Genius Hunter and Map Maker.Creator of the EDG Butterfly Map, Founder of EDGx365.comEDGx365.com the home of Every Day Genius

[213] Genius is Not a Job Title

Two people can hold identical job titles and have almost nothing in common at the level of Genius. [212] What It Means to Walk Your Path

Antonio Machado wrote a line that has stayed with me for years.Caminante, no hay camino. Se hace camino al andar.Traveler, there is no path. The path is made by walking.I find that line both liberating and terrifying in equal measure. And I think that's exactly right. Because the path you are walking — the one that is yours, that belongs to your particular Genius, your particular calling, your particular figure eight — is not something that was laid out before you arrived.Want to schedule a free Flight Check to see if coaching is right for you? [211] A Strength Called Spirituality

Spirituality means different things to different people. For some it's inseparable from religious faith. For others it's entirely secular — a felt sense of connection to something larger, a recognition that the individual life is embedded in something that extends beyond it. For others still, it's a word that carries enough baggage from past experiences that it needs to be approached slowly. All of that is welcome here. And today we look at it as a strength. [210] Calling Back Vocation

There is something extraordinary underneath the word vocation, something that changes the entire frame of how you understand your work, your Genius, and the thread that has been running through your life.A vocation, in its original sense, was not something you elected from a menu of options based on aptitude and marketdemand. [209] Naming Your Season

We talked about your life as infinity loop, and what it looks like to be stuck on one side, usually exhaustion. Today we talk about what season you're in. When you can name your season, you can see the movement of the past and the future and not feel so stuck. Name the season and name what it's asking of you.Because every season has an invitation. A specific quality of attention or courage or patience or presence that it requires. All of life is a figure eight, an infinity loop. What loop are you in? I bet no one has ever asked you that. And so you've probably never even considered it. But it can tell you a lot about how you move through a day, a season, your entire life.Sometimes we get stuck in a loop. That's what we're going to talk about today. [207] The Shape of Exhaustion

We found it at the hearth where Heart and Soul sit down together.Yesterday, we looked at Love of Learning as the mechanism that feeds it — curiosity with commitment, the willingness to keep following the thread. And today we talk about what it needs to sustain: deliberate fuel, protected space, and the people who see you clearly.Coaching with Michele Jennae: Book a free Flight Check CallMichele Jennae is a Genius Hunter and Map Maker.Creator of the EDG Butterfly Map, Founder of EDGx365.comEDGx365.com the home of Every Day Genius

Silence. Deafening silence. It's not the silence of meditation or relaxation, but the silence of the void, the one we think is empty. [195] Making the Immaterial Matter

The use of the word immaterial is largely used to discount something, to wave it off. [188] Lessons from Road Rage with Lany Sullivan

Yesterday's conversation with Lany Sullivan about assumptions led into the subject of road rage, the perfect example of how negative assumptions escalate. Lany points out that there are lessons to be learned, not only about the dangers of road rage itself, but about how other situations in life mirror it. The way we respond has consequences.~~~~~Lany Sullivan is Chairman and CEO at LanySullivan, LLC She can be found at www.lanysullivan.com,on Facebook at www.facebook.com/lanyasullivanand www.facebook.com/lanysullivanon LinkedIn Lany Sullivan | LinkedIn~~~~Michele Jennae is the Creator of the EDG Map, founder of EDGx365, and your host on the Every Day Genius Podcast. She helps people stop managing their genius and start flying from the tension that makes them remarkable. [187] Before You Assume, Pause with Lany Sullivan

In today's episode, Lany and I talk about assumptions, and our tendency to assume the negative. I start with a reframe with acronyms for both the positive and negative aspects of assuming. Lany then continues the conversation expressing the importance of a pause before reaction, maybe assuming that there is a good reason someone is behaving a certain way that has nothing to do with you.~~~~~Lany Sullivan is Chairman and CEO at LanySullivan, LLC She can be found at www.lanysullivan.com,on Facebook at www.facebook.com/lanyasullivanand www.facebook.com/lanysullivanon LinkedIn Lany Sullivan | LinkedIn~~~~Michele Jennae is the Creator of the EDG Map, founder of EDGx365, and your host on the Every Day Genius Podcast. She helps people stop managing their genius and start flying from the tension that makes them remarkable. [185] Two Wings Together - Your Wing Dominance

In the last two episodes, we talked about Ideation and Structure being two seemingly disparate ideas, but that like wings on a butterfly, actually work in tandem. Not both at the same time, but one and then the other and then one and then the other in flow, as circumstances require. Ideally, we begin to allow the other wing to take over when the first one starts flagging. I show you what it looks like with the underlying framework of the EDG Butterfly Map, but not explicitly. I don't want to dissect it for you. I want you to see how it flies. If Gratitude is one of your top strengths, you'll want to listen to this episode. [177] The Map that Changed Everything

My whole life seems to have led to this very point. That sounds philosophical, but I can trace the path! I've been drawing this map, living this map, my whole life.In today's episode, I share that map. Because in a real sense, it's not just about me. It's universal. It's not a metaphor, but an actual map — a shape that describes how you are already designed to move through the world. How you generate energy, how you think, how youcreate at your best. [176] The Genius of Paradox and Polarity

Carl Jung wrote “real life consists of a complex ofinexorable opposites – day and night, birth and death, happiness and misery, good and evil. If it were not so, existence would come to an end.”It would seem that life is paradox, and without it, well… Paradox and polarity aren't the problem. They're the point.
