Most of us were taught to set goals by people who had no idea what kind of mind we had. The frameworks we inherited — SMART goals, vision boards, quarterly targets, the relentless optimization ofachievement — were built for a particular kind of thinker. Linear, singular, outcome-driven. Someone who picks a destination, makes a plan, executes the plan, checks the box. For that kind of mind, those tools work reasonably well. When talking about setting and achieving goals, structural tension doesn't work automatically. There's a condition that has to be met. You have to be able to hold both sides simultaneously.If one side collapses, the tension collapses. Silence. Deafening silence. It's not the silence of meditation or relaxation, but the silence of the void, the one we think is empty. It's actually FULL of possibility, but we have to learn to enter into it, willingly, for it to give up its magic to us. We can get past the "creative block." The use of the word immaterial is largely used to discount something, to wave it off. While it seems innocent enough, what's really happened is that we've taken real energy (unseen, immaterial energy) away from the things we can't see and touch and hold.Imagination is one of those things and it's one of the keys of Genius. It was a multi-level AHA moment. As I doodled in my journal, I remembered a moment from almost 50 years ago. Something that makes a big difference to Genius itself, the knowing that is always there, AND to the EDG Butterfly Map, a shape that was already inside me and wanting to come out. It HAD come out but was stopped. Last week we named two wings on the EDG Butterfly Map.The Ideation Wing in episode 184 — curiosity, possibility, the pull toward what could be. The Structure Wing in episode 185 — follow-through, systems, making things real. And in episode 186, we talked about wing dominance — the natural lean of your genius, the wing that tends to do more of the flying. Today I want to talk about what happens when one wing does all of the flying.
