Fortitude

Everyone has a story of Fortitude! When we tell our stories of pain in adversity - stories of courage, redemption and hope - we give others permission to speak up and get the help they need. Each episode will give the listener a look inside what overcoming adversity looks like no matter what life throws at you. Each story is uniquely different - stories of alcoholism/addiction, infidelity, rape, abuse, loss of a child/children, cancer, rare disease, tragic accidents...etc.! We are in this life together to support one another and build community around hope and redemption. I am your host, Heather Kittelson, and I am so excited to have you here as part of the Fortitude community!

Episode 72: She's grown up in a home where the whole city knows her dad's name with Nora Tenhaken

Send us Fan MailPaul, Jill & Nora TenHaken, Part 3 She's grown up in a home where the whole city knows her dad's name.Eight years. Press conferences. Public scrutiny. Campaign seasons. Security details. Dinner conversations most kids never have to carry. And through all of it, Nora TenHaken has been watching.Watching how her dad leads. Watching how her mom holds everything together. Watching what faith looks like when it's not performed on a stage but lived out in a kitchen, in a car ride, in the quiet moments nobody else sees.In Part 3, Nora joins her parents on the mic for the first time. And what comes out of this young woman's mouth will stop you.We asked her: What makes your home the happiest place on earth? We asked her: Who do you see yourself in more, mom or dad?We asked her: What has it actually been like growing up in the public eye for the last eight years of your life? And then we asked all three of them the question every family needs to sit with:If your home could be described in one word, one word you hope lasts for generations, what would it be?Their answer might make you rethink what you're building in your own house. This episode is not about politics. It's not about legacy in the way the world measures it. It's about what happens when a family decides that faith isn't something they do on Sundays. It's the rhythm they protect every single day, even when the schedule says there's no time for it.Fair warning: the laughter breaks in this one are unfiltered. We asked Nora who tells the worst jokes at home. We asked about the family tradition that started by accident and stuck forever. And we asked what moment in the last year made them all say, "This is so us."You'll laugh. You'll probably cry. And you'll walk away wanting to have a conversation with your own family tonight.*****************************************************************************************As a fan of our podcast and mission to spread Hope and Healing through the message of Jesus Christ - We would appreciate your financial support! Episode 71: She held the home. He led the city With Paul & Jill TenHaken

Send us Fan MailPaul & Jill TenHaken, Part 2 (drop today)She held the home. He led the city. And somewhere in between, they had to figure out how to stay married, stay close to God, and stay close to each other.Part 2 is here.Paul and Jill TenHaken sit down together for a conversation most couples in public life would never have on a mic. And they went there. What "oneness" actually means after years of pressure, sacrifice, and learning to surrender together. Their love languages (and yes, they're different). The mentors who taught them what covenant looks like before they had to live it out. The habits that keep them spiritually connected when life is pulling them in every direction. And the one small, sacred thing that always brings them back to each other. We also asked who said "I love you" first. And who really meant it first. We asked what habit drives the other one completely crazy. We asked what they used to fight about that now just makes them laugh. This is not a polished, curated version of a marriage. This is two people being real about what it costs to choose each other and choose God at the same time, over and over again. If your marriage needs a reminder that covenant is worth fighting for, this is your episode. If you know a couple who's in the thick of it right now, send this to them. Sometimes the thing that shifts everything is hearing someone else say "us too."*****************************************************************************************As a fan of our podcast and mission to spread Hope and Healing through the message of Jesus Christ - We would appreciate your financial support! Episode 70: A Godly Man Before Any Title With Paul TenHaken

Send us Fan MailBefore the city knew his name, before the title, before the office, there was just a kid from Worthington, Minnesota. In this conversation, we didn’t ask Mayor Paul TenHaken about policy. We didn’t ask about budgets or elections or what comes next in his career. We asked the question most people never get to ask a leader they admire:Who are you when no one’s watching? What does your faith actually look like on the hard days, not the public ones? What does “finishing well” mean in your soul, not on your resume?Paul sat with us for this one. No script. No talking points. Just a man talking honestly about the God who shaped him before the world tried to define him. This is Part 1. Just Paul. 34 minutes that might change how you think about leadership, faith, and what it means to be a godly man before you’re anything else.Part 2 with Paul and Jill drops Tuesday, and that conversation about marriage, covenant, and oneness will wreck you in the best way.If you know a man who needs to hear this, a husband, a dad, a leader who’s carrying more than he lets on, send it to him.*****************************************************************************************As a fan of our podcast and mission to spread Hope and Healing through the message of Jesus Christ - We would appreciate your financial support! Episode 69: The Man Who Choose to Stay: With Amos Kittelson

Send us Fan MailOur newest episode is live, and this one is deeply personal. So many of you have heard my story. My healing. My journey. My voice.Today, you get to hear from the man who lived it with me.Amos steps into the guest seat for a raw and honest conversation about marriage, healing, addiction, faith, leadership, and what it looks like to stay when life gets hard.Behind so much of my story is the man who chose to stay and still chooses to stay.A man who kept showing up.A man who kept leading.A man who held steady when life felt anything but.In this episode, we talk about the things people usually carry in silence. What it feels like to walk into a house and know within a couple syllables that the night is going to be hard. What it means to love without enabling. What happens when pain changes the whole atmosphere of a home. And what healing starts to look like when two people are willing to keep growing, keep telling the truth, and keep coming back to the table.Amos shares some of the deepest wisdom he has carried in our home for years:Proximity shapes perspective.Perspective shapes decisions.Decisions shape your life.He also says something that made me laugh and then made me think:“Screw the series.”Because sometimes the very thing keeping us stuck is not some giant crisis. It is the small distraction, the avoidance, the numbing, the thing we keep turning to instead of facing what really needs healing. This episode is tender, real, and full of the kind of truth people do not always say out loud.It is for the ones who have loved someone through pain. The ones who stayed strong because they had to.The ones who kept praying when nothing made sense. The ones who never really got asked how they were doing.I am really honored to share Amos with all of you.Resources:https://www.focusonthefamily.com/episodes/broadcast/https://www.jeffersonfisher.com/podcasthttps://www.trinitychurch.com/sermonsLive Free with Josh Howerton*****************************************************************************************As a fan of our podcast and mission to spread Hope and Healing through the message of Jesus Christ - We would appreciate your financial support! Episode 68: Sometimes “choose joy” gets used like a cute quote. But real joy is not denial" With Laura Pedersen

Send us Fan MailWe’re live right now.Episode 68 just dropped, and I’m saying this clearly: this one is for the person who’s been trying to stay strong while quietly falling apart.Today’s conversation is with Laura Pedersen. She doesn’t give you a polished testimony. She gives you the real version. Loss, heartbreak, and the long road of choosing joy when life hurts. And that’s the point.Sometimes “choose joy” gets used like a cute quote. But real joy is not denial. It’s a decision you make while you’re still healing. It’s faith in motion, not faith as a performance. If you’ve ever asked:How do I keep going after loss? How do I trust God when life doesn’t make sense? How do I stop pretending I’m okay? How do I find joy without minimizing my pain? This episode is for you.We talk about resilience, grief, faith, and what it actually looks like to let God rebuild you from the inside out. This conversation goes deeper than inspiration. It’s honest. It’s tender. And it’s the kind of episode that helps you breathe again.Fortitude is about this. One story at a time.Hope through the hard parts. Not skipping the pain. Not rushing the healing. Just walking it through together. So here’s what I’m asking today:If you have been asking, “How do I keep going?” this conversation is for you.Watch and listen:YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@FortitudePodSupport Fortitude:Patreon: https://patreon.com/FortitudePodcastGive (Stripe): https://bit.ly/fortitudedonateVenmo: https://www.venmo.com/u/fortitude10Connect:X: https://x.com/FortitudePodCourses: https://fortitudellc.myKajabi.comComment one word that describes what you’re carrying in this seasonShare this with one person you care about who needs hope but won’t say it out loud🔴 We’re live. #56 - Bintu Mujambere & Luc Meaux - Faith in the Fire: Bintu's Journey Home

Send us Fan MailIn this episode of Fortitude, hosts Heather and Amos Kittleson sit down with Bintu and Luc, a remarkable couple with a compelling story that spans continents. Bintu shares her journey from the Congo to Belgium, her escape from war, and her mission to bring hope and education back to her homeland through her nonprofit, Future Hope Africa. Luc, who was atheistic most of his life, recounts his unexpected path to faith and how it led him to meet Bintu. They met in 2019 and were married shortly after in May 2021. Despite their diverse backgrounds, both have come together with a shared purpose. From anecdotes about life in Africa and Europe to insights on overcoming cultural and personal challenges. Bintu Bio: Grew up in Bukavu, the capital of South Kivu, adjacent to Lake Kivu and Rwanda. Throughout the 1990’s violence emanating from neighboring Rwanda and an indigenous civil war in the DRC (Zaire at the time) created much instability, chaos and death across the region. Bintu and her siblings fled Bukavu, stayed in Nairobi, Kenya for a year, and Bintu eventually travelled to Belgium and began university studies in the city of Mons, south of Brussels.  While in Mons she attended the English-language “International Baptist Church” which is attended by Americans posted to the nearby NATO facility (SHAPE). As Bintu continued her studies in Belgium her thoughts were never far from Bukavu and the families suffering there. While many people fled the Zaire/DRC and made new lives in Europe or the United States, Bintu envisioned returning to Bukavu to use her education to improve life for her fellow Congolese. In Belgium she earned her Bachelor’s degree in French Education and an MS in Social Development. As security slowly returned to South Kivu, Bintu returned in 2008 to begin the process to open an education center in Bukavu. She and a few colleagues eventually started two centers—one assisted local teachers in improving French language instruction, the other provided homework assistance and tutoring in French and Swahili to children.— In 2012 - American supporters incorporated a 501(c)3 organization, Future Hope Africa (FHA) to provide a financial and spiritual foundation to E-Asbl.— Since 2016, the “FHA - Kanega Education Centre No.1” organizes and conducts entrepreneurial seminars that teach Biblically-based business models to adults, as well as leadership classes to prepare youth for the future. Bintu remains FHA’s Director of Operations at the Bukavu center and travels to Europe and the U.S. advocating Christian education for D.R. He requires round the clock care and it is certainly tiring & challenging many days, but Desiree is truly blessed beyond measure to have him here and be the one who get to love and care for him daily - he is truly such a miracle and gift. In this episode we touch on so many topics around caring for a disabled loved one, how we as a society can better wrap our arms around families like Desiree & Sawyer and how we need to get more curious and ask the right questions when faced with beautiful 'differences.' Desiree's FB: https://www.facebook.com/desiree.nelson.900*****************************************************************************************As a fan of our podcast and mission to spread Hope and Healing through the message of Jesus Christ - We would appreciate your financial support! ABOUT THIS SHOW
