Listening to God – Kyle Dingus

https://www.fourthavenue.church/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/05102026-WorshipWEB-1.m4a   Listening to God Wow, what a privilege it is to come before you.  To be in your presence.  to be able to have a relationship with you.  to know you like a friend.  What a joy to be able to walk in fellowship with you. We thank you, Lord for all the moms in our lives.  We thank you for the sacrifice and love as they continuously pour out.  We pray blessing and honor over them today.  And be with all those this morning that are having a hard time today.  We pray you revitalize hope in their hearts.  And let them feel the richness of your presence this morning. Speaking to God – Kyle Dingus   Y’all may not know this about me but I love cold documentaries. I’m fascinated by them.  I think in another life I could have been a sociologist or a psychologist.  Try to figure out what makes humans tick.  There is a common thread in cults that pops up or in religions in general.  There is normally one person who feels this special anointing or special message from God.  That they are God’s messenger or prophet or sometimes God himself or herself.  They use that.  They use the authority.  They use the divine authority.  They use the authority of being a God to manipulate people to get what they want.  It is extremely disgusting.  It is an abuse of power.  I’m sure in a room this size, not just in cults.  Maybe in your upbringing or maybe in some church circles you had someone prophesize or say a word over you that was unhelpful or unfruitful.  Or maybe you were a college student whom someone said God said we should data.  Kind of equally bad.  This is my interpretation.  A lot of people use God’s name in vain.  Even in some churches there is a prayer ministry going on where personal information was used when they already had that information.  It is understandable to be skeptic about this.

    Community – Jeff Crawford

https://www.fourthavenue.church/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/03222026-WorshipWEB-1.m4a   Good morning.  Where is Rome?  That is so good.  I saw it for the first time yesterday.  I knew he was doing the video segment I was preparing the lesson for this morning.  I’m not what you expected.  I get that a lot.  Kyle is not here this morning.  His mother passed away.  He is with family.  We were talking this morning and Nicki said “our normal minister isn’t here today’.  Which would make me abnormal.  thank you.  So.  I’m Jeff Crawford.  I’m the abnormal preacher this morning.  I’m one of the shepherds at Fourth.  We are so glad to have you here. Prayer in Community We are talking about prayer in community or community in prayer.   I’ve been here for I don’t know how long its been.  My wife and I have been here ten years or so I think.  This is a church where you will notice a few themes.  One of those themes in community.  Its a place that tries to be very, tries to be very embracing. We are not perfect but we do our best to do that.  And then it is place where prayer is incredibly important to who we are and our identity.  I see Albert back here.  Some one who has led the way in helping us frame ourselves as a church.  Who puts ourselves in a humble poster and lifts our requests and our petitions to God. When we talk about prayer, a lot of times we talk about prayer in terms of our individual conversations with our creator.  It is really appropriate.  That is such an important thing in the life of a believer.  But it is not the only way that prayer gets expressed.  And one of the most important things we see when we look in the Bible and when we see the example of the way the early church worked and responded was they had a posture of prayer.  It wasn’t just alone.  It was together.  It was community in prayer.  Prayer in community.

    Suffering – Aaron Williams

https://www.fourthavenue.church/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/03152026-WorshipWEB-1.m4a   I have two things on my mind as I step to preach a little bit this morning.  One, my team, Arkansas Razorbacks are playing in the SEC championship today.  I am in Vol territory.  I am in Commodore territory. I know this.  But it relates to our passage.  Which is connecting to God through suffering.  If you are an Arkansas Razorback fan you sign up for it every single year.  My dad and I have tickets and we are going. Which leads me to my second thought, an elder in the church told me no one ever complained of a short sermon.  So I’m not going to short you, but I do have a game to get to downtown. CS Lewis said God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience but shouts in our pain.  Its his mega phone to rouse a deaf world.  And we want to be at Fourth, a church that helps every person young and old build a thoughtful resilient faith that stands firm when the storms of life come our way.  What happens when the things we most often build our lives on.  Our accomplishments, family, our money, a good job, marriage, and our health.  What happens when those things are taken away from us?  Or our dreams of how they would turn out are shattered by the storms of life. Suffering Isn’t Easy How do we hold onto God when feels like he may have let go of us?  What do we do when he seems silent in our sufferings?  What do we do when all we have is that haunting question.  Why?  I’ve heard over the years Christians struggle with questions like “why would a loving all powerful God allow sufferings?”  When my health crisis hit, my friend says “God never gives us more than we can handle?”

Eschatology – What will happen in the end times? – Kyle Dingus

https://www.fourthavenue.church/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/09282028-WorshipWEB-1.m4a   Eschatology Below is an excerpt from today’s message on Eschatology. Good Morning! I wanted to start with a quick announcement that this upcoming week and the week following is going to be my yearly study break. It’s an opportunity for me to just kind of get away from everything and spend some time with the Lord and experience some rejuvenation, read a bunch, and just seek his will and discernment so I’m gonna ask for prayers from you all for me about this. I’m greatly looking forward to this. You all are going to be in great hands. We have two amazing guest speakers in the next two weeks. Diego and Nancy are going to be preaching for us and they are both awesome and they have incredible things to say. They are both coming from The Gospel of John so if you like John you definitely want to come and hear this. It’s going to be really good. I’m so really grateful for them and I will see you all in a couple of weeks. This morning we are finishing our series called Foundations and we are looking at the core essential key truths of the Christian faith. We have been going through the series for a plethora of reasons. One is because there is often times in churches like ours or nondenominational churches something that’s a teaching that is kind of surveying the whole of the Christian faith that we’re able to give to new believers or who are coming into faith. Also at least personally for me it has been a great study for me to grow to grow in my understanding of a lot of these truths in my ability to articulate it to other people and it has been a formational process for me and I hope it has been for you as well. We’ve talked about the nature of scripture. We have talked about who God is and the teaching of the Trinity and how God is loving community and how that changes so much. We’ve talked about the nature of human beings. We’ve talked about the nature of our sins. We talked about how Jesus is fully God and fully man and takes all our sin upon himself in the cross and through the resurrection gives us power over sin and frees us. We experience salvation “Praise the Lord” for that and that we receive the Holy Spirit who sanctifies us and chips away at us and helps to refine us and to make us more and more like Jesus. Last week we talked about the community of people who are filled by the Holy Spirit that is the church and who we are supposed to be and the kinds of things the church is supposed to be about and the mission that we are committed to. This morning we are talking about where all of this is heading. We’re talking about Eschatology, the study of the end times or the last things. How are things going to end is the question we’re diving into this morning. What does the future have in store for us? In some ways I feel like my sermon wrote itself this week because if you all are on the internet and are in circles of Christian media I’m sure that you saw something that the rapture happened this past Tuesday. So sorry we’re in trouble! No, obviously the rapture did not happen!

Ecclesiology – What is the church? – Kyle Dingus

https://www.fourthavenue.church/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/09212025-WorshipWEB-1.m4a   Ecclesiology An excerpt of today’s message on Ecclesiology. Good morning church! We are continuing our series on Foundations. Looking at the foundational core truths of the Christian faith. We’ve talked a lot about scripture and how scripture is a great authority, the primary authority for what we know about God and what we know about truth and how we ought to live our lives, good lives and all of that. We talked about the nature of God, who God is. We talked about the nature of human beings and how we relate to God. We talked about Jesus, the one who is fully God and fully man and leads us into salvation. We talked about the work of Jesus on the cross and resurrection. We talked last week about the Holy Spirit and how the spirit fills those who are in Christ and we live empowered by the Holy Spirit. This week we were talking about the Holy Spirit in a communal context, in a corporate context meaning the church. The study of the church is called Ecclesiology coming from the Greek word “ekklesia” which means gathering or assembly. We’re diving into this morning the nature of the church and what’s the purpose, the function of the church. This topic is a really big one both in terms of the breadth and content that’s possible for us to talk about. There’s a lot we could talk about from the New Testament and it’s also important to talk about the practicality of how we operate as a church but also how we live our lives as individuals because we want to lean into Jesus’ vision of the church. And if we don’t lean into Jesus’ vision of the church we are going to drift towards whatever is easy, whatever is trendy in the world, whatever is self gratifying, or whatever makes us feel good about ourselves. Without a good view of the church we will fail to model what a healthy community is and what that can be to the rest of the world and we could actually end up pushing the world further away. Not because of Gospel offense but because of our own self righteousness and in judgement that we show or the other side of the pendulum that we look no different than anybody else in the world.

Pneumatology – Who is the Holy Spirit? – Kyle Dingus

https://www.fourthavenue.church/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/09142025-WorshipWEB-1.m4a   Pneumatology Below is an excerpt from today’s message. Good Morning Church! It is so good to be with you all today! It’s great to be with a body of believers. A couple of things before we get into the lesson this morning. One, a reminder that classes started up week. We got a fresh slate of them. Unfortunately Finn Greeland is sick today so if you are a part of his class you’ll have to wait until next week but other classes are going strong. Finn’s class is on knowing yourself, self identity stuff as it relates to God. Mike Shinnick and their crew are talking about discipleship and a view of the end times and Keith is talking about First Corinthians. So sorry, I had a moment of Oh No the classes! Those are the classes! I hope you stick around for those are going to be great. I also wanted to share with you today about the first week of Alpha that happened. It was amazing and I was telling people I think it was one of the most beautiful demonstration of the church that I have ever seen in my life and what I mean by that is how much of a team effort that it was of people who ordered the food, got the food, delivered it, and set it up. We had a prayer team praying for everybody by name. I know several of you text me and let me know that you are praying. You set an alarm for 6:30 to be praying for Alpha. I know all the people who showed up to be involved with it was a wonderful thing. People who were helping to lead the small groups. Shout out to Tracy Grimes for all the administrative stuff and the child care component organizing that and taking care of the kiddos. It really was a church effort to extend the table of Jesus to the community. It was amazing and we have another one tonight. If you want to set your alarm for 6:30 again to pray for us we need the prayer, we really do. Just pray for us to have a really good night for everyone involved and people learn more about the goodness of Jesus. We’re currently going through a series called Foundations: looking at the core truths, the timeless truths of the Christian faith and it’s such an important thing to talk about. It’s one for people who may be newer to the faith and wanting to get a breadth of understanding of what this whole Christian thing is all about. But, it’s also good for all of us in the pews to one, be reminded of the faith that we hold onto tightly and also I’m sure there are things in this that can spark curiosity to dive deeper into some of these studies…

Soteriology – What is salvation? – Kyle Dingus

https://www.fourthavenue.church/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/09072025-WorshipWEB-1.m4a   Soteriology Below is an excerpt from today’s talk on Soteriology from Kyle. Good morning! Before we get started this morning, as that last song was reminding us of the importance of the power of prayer. Tonight we are beginning Alpha. It’s very exciting and very nerve racking at the same time and we are expecting and hopeful that God is going to do really amazing things through it. I’m going to ask for all of you guys to set an alarm at 6:30 tonight or around there and just say a prayer for us as we’re sharing the love of Jesus with people. So it’s going to be an awesome time. We are going through a series currently called Foundations. Looking at the foundational core truths of the Christian faith. We’ve talked about the Bible and how the Bible is our primary authority for knowing God and living the good life and how God created human beings in the image of God. We as humans have sinned and have fallen short of the Glory of God and we have a sinful nature. We are broken as people. We talked last week about the bridge between God and man and Jesus and it’s a really good precursor for what we are talking about today. We talked about the nature and character of Jesus and we are examining today a lot of the work of Jesus, what Jesus accomplished on the cross and the resurrection. We are talking about Soteriology, the study of salvation. In Islam you were saved if God decides to save you based upon your good deeds. If you practice the five pillars, if you lived a submissive life, if your good deeds ultimately outweighed your bad deeds then you might make it to paradise. In Hinduism and Buddhism life is suffering. We are trapped into this never ending cycle of reincarnation and the goal is to do enough good deeds to earn enough Karma to get off the cycle of suffering and achieve unity with the divine essence.

Christology – Who is Jesus? – Kyle Dingus

https://www.fourthavenue.church/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/08312025-WorshipWEB-1.m4a   Christology See below for an excerpt on Christogoly. We are continuing our series on Foundations, foundational core truths of Christian faiith. We have talked about the Bible and how the Bible is our primary authority for knowing God and living the good life. We have talked about God himself, the nature of God, the trinity, how God is loving the community in more amazing ways than we could possibly ever know. We talked about who we are as people in relation to God that we are made in the image of God. We are also simultaneously broken because of sin and what we are talking about today is actually the one who actually bridges the gap between God and man. We’re talking about Christology, looking at the character in the nature of Jesus and this is vitally important. All of us as humans are looking for satisfaction. We’re all seeking to find fulfillment for our core desires and our core wants. We’ve all chased that through a lot of different ways. Some think if I could just make a ton of money then I’ll be satisfied. If I just buy this stuff then I’ll finally be happy. Some think if I land this job then my life is going to start getting better. Some think if I make the sports team then I will have made it. Some think if I just graduate then my life will work out. Some think if I end up with this person and marry them then my life will be truly satisfied. Some think if I just take this substance then I will start feeling better. However, though some may find temporary fulfillment or happiness through things like this, all of these things can not ultimately satisfy us because most everything we experience in this life is temporary. Relationships, achievements, money, whatever. So often once we receive the things that we think we’re so wanting it leads us asking is this it? Is this all that life has to offer? Is this as good as it gets? Or to quote the great philosophers U2 we can say I still haven’t found what I’m looking for! Right? Much like Alexander the Great who famously wept whenever there was nothing else for him to conquer because that was what he was living his life for. Like him it’s crushing whenever what we live for ends or is found lacking.
