    55. Practical Peacemaking with Emma Petty Addams & Kristine Haglund

** It was brought to our attention that part of the episode was cut off! We apologize. Here is the updated and complete episode** ENJOY!  This week we welcome two ladies from Mormon Women for Ethical Government (MWEG) to talk about the intersection of faith and politics. Politics seem to polarize more than bring people together nowadays, but in this conversation we discuss the dangers of being a "political hobbyist", how to address conflict in constructive ways to build peace and how to live in faith for future generations. Emma Petty Addams : Co-Executive Director Emma Petty Addams serves as co-executive director for Mormon Women for Ethical Government. After receiving her bachelor’s degree in piano performance at Stanford University, she spent time in Boston and Silicon Valley working in contracts negotiation, corporate transactions and capitalization, and investor relations. In addition, she has built and run large piano studios in California, New Jersey, and now Omaha, Nebraska, where she currently resides with her husband and three sons. While seemingly unrelated, these previous career opportunities were excellent preparation for the fast-paced yet methodical and collaborative nature of the work at MWEG. Every time an MWEG member writes an op-ed, speaks out against injustice, or expresses her opinion peacefully on social media, Emma is grateful for the chance to help women contribute their part to the complex multi-voice symphony that is our democracy. Kristine Haglund:  Senior Director of Faithful Root Kristine Haglund is the senior director of the faithful root for Mormon Women for Ethical Government.  She is a writer, editor, independent scholar, and former editor of Dialogue: A Journal of Mormon Thought, from 2009-2015. Her most recent publication is Eugene England: A Mormon Liberal, part of the series "Introductions to Mormon Thought" published by the University of Illinois Press. She blogs at  By Common Consent (bycommonconsent.com). She is a member of the Board of By Common Consent Press, Vice President of Mormon Scholars in the Humanities, and Program Co-Chair for the Mormon History Association conference in 2022. Her degrees are in German Studies and German Literature (Harvard, University of Michigan), and her research interests include LDS women’s and children’s history and the intersections of religion and social media. She lives with her husband in St. Louis, Missouri.

    53. Seeking Heavenly Mother with Jessica Smith

This week we welcome Jessica Smith from @milkmaidshoney to discuss the Divine Feminine or Mother God. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints believes in and celebrates a Heavenly Mother, who loves us and with her Husband and First Born Spirit Son created all living things. When discussing this topic with our older brother, Aaron Dodini, he said, "This belief is unique in modern day Christianity and there is nothing more "feminist" than the belief that woman are Goddesses; that the construct of God is divine union between a man and a woman who together create all living things for the express purpose of giving Their children the chance for eternal progression." During a time when there is such a need for divine womanly representation, it was a breath of fresh air to discuss Her as some of Her daughters.   Jessica graduated from BYU in 2020 with a Bachelor's degree in Ancient Near Eastern History with a Hebrew Bible emphasis. Later that year, she and her husband moved to Norway. Jessica uses her degree in Hebrew to explore the lore and linguistic origins of the scriptures. She makes it her journey to find the feelings and emotions in-between the lines and add a woman's voice to the critical analysis of stories we love and cherish as the word of God. Jessica ponders our Mother God and traces of Her within the scriptures.  This week's episode is sponsored by MixHers. 51. Navigating Religious Trauma with Danielle Calder

Danielle Calder from @daniellecalder_ formerly @theremaybetypos joins us again to discuss healing from religious trauma, deconstruction and reconstruction and faith affirming therapy.  Cognitive dissonance lives on both sides of the faith divide with believers and nonbelievers alike. To those who claim belief, not everything makes sense. Not all loose ends are tied up; not every question finds it’s answer. Our Latter-day history can be perplexing, some parts leave even the devout wondering; not all prayers find answers. The doctrines Christ professed in that time proved to be more provocative than peaceful, perhaps more cognitive dissonance than resolution. Wherever you are on journey, whatever experiences you have had, there are resources to help and there is healing that can take place. We hope this conversation helps.  This week's episode is sponsored by MixHers. We are happy to give our listeners 10% off (that can also be added to the subscription which is 20% off = 30% total). 42. Effective Conversations about Pornography with Children with Emily Christensen

This week we welcome life coach, Emily Christensen, to discuss effective ways to start conversations with our children about pornography. We discuss the cycle of shame surrounding pornography and Emily says, “shame comes from not talking about it at all... When we keep things a secret, we increase the curiosity and allure factor.” We also discuss protecting our children's innocence. What actually destroys innocence is your child viewing pornography when they aren’t prepared because you haven’t talked about it and are weird about it.  We discuss that in order to protect their innocence we have to get really comfortable with the uncomfortable and create space and safety in our home where any topic can be discussed. Emily Christensen is a perfectly, imperfect wife and mother of three who believes in the power of family dinners and do-overs. Faith and family are her two greatest priorities. Emily was raised in an active Latter-day Saint home that was deeply impacted by pornography and is intimately aware of how pornography can affect individuals and families. Although professionally her background is in commercial real estate, personally her background is in supporting families (including her own) that have been impacted by pornography. For over 19 years she has been doing both. Emily has presented to a variety of church groups, trained church leaders and presented at BYU Women’s Conference on topics related to pornography. In 2019 she became a Certified Life Coach through the Life Coach School. In her coaching practice she works with individuals and families impacted by pornography and also teaches parents how to prevent the compulsive use of pornography in children. 37. Effects of Screen time on children with Ralphie Jacobs

This week we welcome Ralphie Jacobs from @simplyonpurpose to talk with us about the effects of screen time on a child's developing brain. Studies show that 77% of parents are saying that raising their kids is harder nowadays because of technology; and kids wish their parents would get off their phones.  Psychology Today says that, parents using their phones in front of their children causes more distress and reduces resilience in children. We model behavior for our children. We send messages and social cues to our children. So whether that's establishing boundaries for yourself or your children, this is a great conversation.  Ralphie lives in Austin Texas with her husband and their 4 daughters.  As an Early Childhood Education expert Ralphie quickly learned that the best way to impact a child’s life for good is to teach parents.  She founded @simplyonpurpose where she writes about parenting, family culture, and living with purpose.  Her audio course changed thousands of homes.  She also travels across the country speaking at workshops on positive parenting. Check out some of her free resources on her website. https://simplyonpurpose.org/
