Talking tariffs

Tariffs on steel and aluminum, and proposed tariffs on U.S. exports by foreign countries, could deal a heavy blow to states like South Carolina, where exports are worth some $3 billion annually according to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Earlier this year, U.S. President Donald Trump assigned steep new tariffs — 25 percent for steel and 10 percent for aluminum — on imported metals. The administration has also discussed the idea of new tariffs on imported European cars.
