"The Right Side of History" | Exodus 19:2-8 | Pastor Huebel

What does it really mean to be on "the right side of history"? Politicians claim to know where history is heading, but Pastor Huebel turns to Exodus 19 to show that history has a Driver, and that God alone knows where it ends. Drawing a line from God's promise to Abraham through 500 years of waiting, slavery, and deliverance, this message reminds us that the Lord always keeps His word, sees the whole picture when we see only one piece, and is bringing all things to their conclusion at the throne of Jesus Christ.Scripture References: The Old Testament reading and sermon text is Exodus 19:2-8. The Epistle is Romans 5:6-13, and the Holy Gospel is Matthew 9:35 through 10:20. Along the way the sermon also draws on Genesis 12, the accounts of Joseph and of Ruth and Boaz, 2 Peter 3, and Job 19:25.Key Themes: God's control of history, God's faithfulness to His promises, His timing versus ours, our small piece of the larger puzzle, the new Israel and royal priesthood, and looking up as the end draws near.Bethlehem Lutheran Church is a Bible-centered, mission-focused congregation of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS), located in Palestine, Texas.Join us in person at 1515 South Loop 256, Palestine, TX 75801, across from Palestine High School. "Who Needs Jesus?" | Matthew 9:9-15 | Rev. Huebel

In a world full of self-help gurus, motivational speakers, and prosperity preachers, it's easy to drift from what Jesus actually came to do. Drawing from Matthew 9:9-15 and the calling of Matthew the tax collector, Rev. Huebel cuts to the heart of a question that hits closer to home than most of us are comfortable admitting: Who really needs Jesus? The answer challenges both the self-righteous and the self-sufficient, and points every sinner to the one Savior who came for exactly that reason.Scripture References: Matthew 9:9-15 (sermon text and Holy Gospel), Hosea 6:6, Romans 6:23, Galatians 3:10, Isaiah 6:1-8, Acts 16:25-34 (the Philippian jailer), Psalm 50:10Key Themes: Jesus as the Great Physician, sin as a terminal condition, self-righteousness vs. genuine repentance, mercy over outward sacrifice, the calling of Matthew, the church's true missionBethlehem Lutheran Church is a Bible-centered, mission-focused congregation of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS), located in Palestine, Texas.Join us in person: 1515 South Loop 256, Palestine, TX 75801 (across from Palestine High School). "Our Triune God" | Matthew 28:19-20 | Rev. Loeschen

On Trinity Sunday, the church pauses to consider the God it worships: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, three persons and one God, working together for the salvation of the world. Rev. Loeschen guides listeners through the ancient Athanasian Creed and unpacks the distinct work of each person of the Trinity, from the Father's ongoing work of creation and preservation, to the Son's life, death, and resurrection for our redemption, to the Spirit's work of bringing us to faith and keeping us there. It is a grounding, hopeful message for anyone who wants to understand not just who God is, but what he has done and continues to do for each of us.Want to learn more about the Athanasian Creed? Rev. Loeschen walks through it here: https://belctx.org/2026/06/a-walk-through-the-athanasian-creed-with-pastor-loeschen/Scripture References: Matthew 28:19-20, Genesis 1, The Athanasian CreedKey Themes: The Holy Trinity, Creation and preservation, Redemption through Christ, Sanctification by the Spirit, Faith and works, Eternal lifeBethlehem Lutheran Church is a Bible-centered, mission-focused congregation of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS), located in Palestine, Texas.Join us in person: 1515 South Loop 256, Palestine, TX 75801 (across from Palestine High School) Sunday School: 9:00 AM Divine Worship: 10:15 AM Wednesday Bible Study: 6:00 PMbelctx.org | (903) 729-6362Soli Deo Gloria -- To God alone be the glory.

"Come Holy Spirit" | Acts 2:1-21 | Pastor Heckmann

What would it look like if you could see a visible sign whenever someone was acting in the power of the Holy Spirit? Pastor Heckmann opens with a creative thought experiment and uses it to ask a deeper question: how do we know the Spirit is at work today? Drawing from Acts 2 and the Day of Pentecost, this sermon reminds us that the Spirit is still very much alive and moving -- through the Word, the Sacraments, and through each one of us every single day.Scripture References:Numbers 11:24-30Acts 2:1-21John 7:37-39Matthew 25:40 ("What you do for the least of these...")Key Themes:Holy Spirit at work todayMeans of grace (Word and Sacrament)Modern PentecostService and acts of mercyBearing witness to ChristPrayer as powerBethlehem Lutheran Church is a Bible-centered, mission-focused congregation of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS), located in Palestine, Texas.Join us in person: 1515 South Loop 256, Palestine, TX 75801 (across from Palestine High School) Sunday School: 9:00 AM Divine Worship: 10:15 AM Wednesday Bible Study: 6:00 PMbelctx.org | (903) 729-6362Soli Deo Gloria — To God alone be the glory.

    "Restoration" | 1 Peter 4-5 | Pastor Heckmann

We all fall. Peter did too, and dramatically so. But the story of Peter is not ultimately a story of failure; it is a story of restoration. In this message from 1 Peter 4-5, we are reminded that the God of all grace does not leave us in our shame. He calls us back, picks us up, and makes us strong, firm, and steadfast in Christ.Scripture References1 Peter 4:12-19; 5:6-11 (Epistle Reading)Matthew 16 (Peter's confession and rebuke)John 21 (Jesus reinstates Peter)Key ThemesSuffering and perseverance in faithRestoration through ChristThe grace of GodPeter's denial and reinstatementResisting the devilStanding firm in the faithBethlehem Lutheran Church is a Bible-centered, mission-focused congregation of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS), located in Palestine, Texas.Join us in person: 1515 South Loop 256, Palestine, TX 75801 (across from Palestine High School) Sunday School: 9:00 AM Divine Worship: 10:15 AM Wednesday Bible Study: 6:00 PMbelctx.org | (903) 729-6362Soli Deo Gloria — To God alone be the glory.

"One True God" | Acts 17 | Pastor Heckmann

In this first message from the pulpit at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Pastor Heckmann draws from Acts 17 and the Apostle Paul's bold proclamation to the people of Athens — a city full of idols, temples, and a telling altar to an "unknown God."The sermon asks a pointed question: what does idolatry look like in 21st-century America? From the pursuit of wealth and fame to the idol of absolute personal autonomy, Pastor Heckmann challenges us to examine where we place our deepest trust, and then points us back to the One True God, fully revealed in Jesus Christ.Scripture References:Holy Gospel: John 14:15-21Sermon Text: Acts 17 (Paul at Athens)Ephesians 6 (our struggle is not against flesh and blood)Key Themes: Idolatry, Repentance, The Holy Spirit, Faith in Christ, Cultural ChristianityBethlehem Lutheran Church is a Bible-centered, mission-focused congregation of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, located in Palestine, Texas.Join us in person:Sunday School: 9:00 AMDivine Worship: 10:15 AMWednesday Bible Study: 6:00 PMVisit us online: belctx.org
