Jeremiah Dickey- Director of Athletics Boise State University encore
Jeramiah DickeyTitle: Director of AthleticsSport Administrator: FootballEmail: [email protected]: 208-426-1826Alma Mater: University of TexasJeramiah Dickey was named Boise State University’s Director of Athletics on Jan. 2, 2021, joining the Broncos from Baylor University, where he had served as Associate Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics since February 2017.Dickey’s tenure at the helm of Boise State Athletics is best encapsulated as “What’s Next,” a phrase that expresses both the athletic department’s strategic plan and its forward-thinking mindset. The success of “What’s Next” has translated into 42 team and individual conference championships since Dickey’s arrival, record-breaking academic performance and fundraising support, facility improvements that have impacted every Bronco student-athlete, and a reimagined experience for Bronco student-athletes and staff. In March 2025, Dickey was named a NACDA AD of the Year. He was also named a nominee for the 2025 Sports Business Journal AD of the Year. When Boise State unveiled the What’s Next Initiative in November 2021, it provided a strategic roadmap to enhance the trajectory and sustainability of Bronco Athletics. The multi-year plan cements Boise State as a leader in the industry by strengthening four key areas: infrastructure, revenue generation, student-athlete experience and marketability. The revenue generation element received an immediate boost with Dickey’s arrival and has sustained itself throughout his tenure. The enhanced fundraising efforts are a direct result of the reimagination of the athletic department’s external units. Boise State added an outbound ticket sales team and invested in expanding its major gifts staff. The former has led to attendance records, including leading the entire Mountain West Conference in total attendance for the first time ever in 2023-24 and then again in 2024-25, and the latter has helped usher in more than 280 members of the Lyle Smith Society, accounting for more than $30 million in philanthropic commitments over the next five years. The Bronco Athletic Association (BAA) has also raised more than $100 million over the last four years and had four straight years of $20+ million in annual support. The vision for Boise State’s future was brought to life with the April 2022 announcement of the Athletics Master Village, a plan for facility improvements and additions that will impact all 18 sport programs, as well as the department’s loyal fans and stakeholders. The plan includes 12 key priorities that have been deemed critical to Boise State’s future success. In August 2022, additional renderings and cost projections were released for the potential projects. In January 2025, Boise State broke ground on the North End Zone project at Albertsons Stadium, the first step toward realizing the Athletics Master Village. The North End Zone project will impact every Boise State student-athlete, in addition to revenue-generating opportunities with new premium seating options at football. The Broncos partnered with AECOM’s sports practice to conduct a comprehensive facility assessment that led to the recommendation of and concepts for the Athletics Master Village. Boise State has also undergone a zero-based budgeting process department-wide and for all programs, and a Title IX assessment.Overall, more than 100 facility projects have been completed under Dickey’s watch while another 31 are ongoing as Boise State enters the 2025-26 academic year. These projects included the Installation of lights and scoreboards at multiple sports venues, the largest locker room modernization and upgrades in department history, and several gameday improvements for fans cheering on the Broncos.Boise State Athletics also launched Broncos United, an internal initiative that focuses on the investment in its most important asset - its people. The initiative keys on three areas, combining to create a holistic environment of supporting student-athletes, coaches and staff. The three components include physical and mental health, personal and professional growth, and community and campus engagement.Under Dickey’s guidance, the athletic department has increased its focus on engaging with multiple constituencies, including the Treasure Valley community and former student-athletes. In the community, the Broncos volunteered at more than 220 different events and more than 50 local charities and schools impacted in 2024-25. The Bronco Athletic Association partnered with Athlete Network, a digital platform that expands the impact of the Varsity B Letterwinners Club by allowing alumni to effortlessly stay connected with teammates, fellow alumni and current coaches, student-athletes and staff.Boise State has also used its focus on the student-athlete experience by expanding into several areas, including nutrition education for all student-athletes with two full-time performance nutrition staff members, fueling stations throughout to support all 18 sport programs, and supporting mental health with the BroncoBOLD initiative. In Dickey’s time so far, through the end of the 2024-25 academic year, the Broncos excelled in competition and in the classroom. The Broncos have won 16 team conference championships, 26 individual conference titles, made 44 team postseason appearances and 22 as individuals, accumulated 25 All-Americans, 45 coach and student-athlete conference awards, and 298 all-conference honorees. Academically, the Broncos had a department-record 3.46 cumulative GPA in Spring 2025, which helped them turn in a department-wide GPA of 3.3 or higher in each semester since the start of the 2021-22 academic year. Boise State also sported a Graduation Success Rate (GSR) of 94 percent in 2023-24, which set a new record, and has an Academic Progress Rate (APR) of 991 or above in all four-plus years under Dickey, which is tops in the Mountain West.Dickey has made seven head coaching hires in his tenure, including head football coach Spencer Danielson in December 2023. Dickey led a national search for the next head football coach at Boise State, but Danielson earned the job after leading the Broncos to a Mountain West title as the interim head coach to close out the 2023 campaign. Danielson went on to helped lead the Broncos to a second straight Mountain West title in 2024 and take Boise State to the College Football Playoff for the first time in school history.Other head coach hires include conference coaches of the year Justin Shults (softball) and Luke Shields (men’s tennis). Shults led the Broncos to the 2023 regular season championship in his second season at the helm, while Shields has lifted Boise State to three-straight Mountain West (2023-25).The success throughout the athletic department has driven the marketability of Boise State Athletics. The Broncos have launched the Bronco Sports App, partnered with Fanatics for merchandise, and instituted an award-winning NIL program to support student-athletes. In 2024-25, in addition to record licensing and merchandise, Bronco Sports Properties – a partnership with LEARFIELD – had its best year ever in terms of corporate sponsorships. An El Paso, Texas, native, Dickey also previously spent time at the University of Akron, serving as Assistant Athletic Director for Development (2007-10), and at the University of Texas at El Paso (2003-06), working primarily in development and marketing and promotions.Dickey earned a bachelor’s degree in sport management from the University of Texas in 2004 and a master’s of sport science and coaching from Akron in 2018. He and his wife, Elizabeth, have a daughter, Emerson, and two sons, Elijah and Easton.Game Plan For Life is a podcast and radio program hosted by Skip Hall.
