Coming to know the will of the Lord through Prayer

When we pray in the name of Jesus Christ we are seeking to pray for the things that Jesus would ask. When we are willing to let the Lord prevail in our lives we sometimes have to accept that the answers to our prayers may be contrary to what we want. President Ezra Taft Benson put it most poignantly when he said, “When obedience ceases to be an irritant and becomes our quest, in that moment God will endow us with power.”Understanding the Nature of God helps us to accept the difficult answers as well as pray for miracles when we need them.Join Kendra and Andrea as they discuss those difficult moments of growth that have turned into amazing lessons on faith in God's plan. Sincere Seekers Immerse Their Study in the Savior's Words

Join Kendra and Andrea as they discuss the tenacity it takes in becoming sincere seekers regardless of the obstacles that come in to distract us. This episode is also very special because of their guest Laryssa Waldron that embodies everything a sincere seeker is. We hope you enjoy gathering with us and we encourage you to share this with your friends so they can gather too.Laryssa Waldron Bio Laryssa Waldron is from Salt Lake City, Utah. She has a bachelor’s in English from the University of Utah and master’s in education with a teaching licensure from the University of Phoenix. She began the Preservice program at the University of Utah and upon graduation was hired at American Fork Seminary where (after 5 years of teaching) a student raised his hand in class and said, “You should date my brother!” She married that brother, and they have three beautiful children together. Laryssa taught English writing and rhetoric at SLCC and UVU, but Technical Writing was her specialty for 10 years. She has also been privileged to teach seminary (aka religion to high school aged students) for over 10 years.Currently, she has her dream job – teaching religion at BYU-Idaho, where she gets to spend time with some of the most amazing young adults on the planet! Laryssa loves to travel - especially when she gets to learn about different countries and cultures. With her family, she loves to play games, do puzzles, and cook together. Laryssa also enjoys learning about anything and everything. She especially loves public speaking, creating websites, blogs, TikTok videos, doing family history, and she has a passion for writing, and creating art and children’s books with her daughters. Additional Career Information I liken my career to a boomerang. My jobs teaching religion kept ending, but then the Lord would "boomerang" me back in to teaching again. If you're counting - that's going through the preservice program three times, and getting hired to teach religion five times (five general authority interviews) and going through teacher training programs 7 times if you count my degree). Hopefully this time I can get it right (fingers crossed)! Seminary Teacher 1998-2005 - Preservice UofU (98-99), American Fork Seminary (99-2003), West Jordan Seminary (2003-2005)English Adjunct Professor -  UVU (2005 - 2007) SLCC (2007-2017)Seminary Teacher - Preservice UofU (2015-2016)BYU-I Visiting Professor of Religion - (2017-2020)Seminary Teacher - Preservice BYU-I (2019-2020) Madison High School (2020-2021) Madison Junior High Program Director (2021-2023)BYU-I Professor of Religion - (2023- Present)While we seek to adhere strictly to the words of living prophets, general leadership and the basic doctrines of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Gather in Christ Podcast is not affiliated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It is easier to see the changes that the continuing restoration brings as inspired when our testimony is strengthened in the basic doctrines. The doctrine of Dispensation, Apostasy and Restoration is crucial to our testimony and this year's study of the Doctrine in Covenants in Come Follow Me.As promised in the show here is the reference for the talk on the reformers.Preparations for the Restoration and the Second Coming: “My Hand Shall Be over Thee”October 2005 -Robert D. Avoiding Dizzying Distractions in Order to Receive Revelation

Join Kendra and Andrea as they explore the importance of removing distractions and mis-thinking when seeking divine guidance from our loving Heavenly Father. In Doctrine and Covenants 46:9, which is part of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' scripture, the Lord says, "For verily I say unto you, they [the revelations of God] are given for the benefit of those who love me and keep all my commandments, and him that seeketh so to do;" In this scripture we see a pattern for receiving revelation and our responsibility to love the Lord and keep the commandments as part of that pattern. By being true to these responsibilities we then open our hearts and minds to receiving revelation for our lives from Him. God is longing to speak to us but as any patient father he is allowing us to use our moral agency to come to Him. In addition to this scripture we can gain personal confidence that God desires to speak to us by the truths taught in this scripture D&C 93:49, "What I say unto one I say unto all; ..." God is not a respecter of persons (see Acts 10:34-35). He invites all to come to Him "black or white, bond or free, male and female..." (see 2 Nephi 26:33). God doesn't change (see James 1:17). He continues to reveal His will to mankind. If we are humble and seek to live in such a way that He can speak to us, then He will give us guidance, direction, warnings and comfort through the marvelous gift of the Spirit of the Lord. We can even ask for that blessing to be extended to our rebellious loved ones.See this book for more great teachings from President Nelson.https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/teachings-of-presidents-of-the-church-russell-m-nelson?lang=enghttps://andreaericksonlindsey.com/ #andreaericksonlindsey#gatherinchrist#thechurchofjesuschristoflatterdaysaints#religiouseducationWhile we seek to adhere strictly to the words of living prophets, general leadership and the basic doctrines of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Gather in Christ Podcast is not affiliated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a missionary Church. There is no greater cause that we can participate in than helping others understand their divine identity and potential. The gathering of Israel is both a daunting challenge and glorious effort. Join Andrea and Kendra as they discuss their experiences and how they have felt the joy of missionary work. Here is the quote that was promised in the podcast as well.Succession in the Presidency BRUCE R. MCCONKIEof the Quorum of the Twelve ApostlesJanuary 8, 1974"President Kimball was at that moment the senior apostle of God on earth. And as the last heartbeat of President Lee ceased, the mantle of leadership passed to President Kimball, whose next heartbeat was that of the living oracle and presiding authority of God on earth. From that moment the Church continued under the direction of President Kimball."While we seek to adhere strictly to the words of living prophets, general leadership and the basic doctrines of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Gather in Christ Podcast is not affiliated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. What the Abrahamic Covenant Means for Us Today

Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints understand that they are a restored church. We believe in the doctrine of Dispensations, Apostasy and Restoration. This particular doctrine helps members to understand that throughout the history of the earth the gospel was taught during time periods called dispensations. These dispensations were led by faithful leaders that are called dispensation fathers. Some of those dispensations fathers, that we know of, were Adam, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Joseph Smith. Due to rejection of God's word and apostasy, or a falling away from the truth, there were times that the fullness of the gospel was not on the Earth. Thankfully there came times when people were again prepared for the word of God. This process of the gospel returning was called restoration. Abraham was one of these diligent prophets that was called to teach the covenants of the Lord and hold the authority to participate in the ordinances of the gospel of Jesus Christ. In this podcast we will be discussing the covenant God made with Abraham in his time and how it has been restored and relates to us in our time. This covenant has real power and real significance to our life.Join Kendra and Andrea as they share discoveries with this covenant and how it helps them in everyday life. #gatherinchristWhile we seek to adhere strictly to the words of living prophets, general leadership and the basic doctrines of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Gather in Christ Podcast is not affiliated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Recapture Your Faith Through A Living Prophet

President Harold B. Lee concerning a testimony. He said, “Testimony isn’t something you have today, and you are going to have always. A testimony is fragile. It is as hard to hold as a moonbeam. A House of Faith

Faith is the power that framed the world. Following the commandments of God and His chosen prophet takes great faith. We also know that the exceeding faith it takes to change and repent is worth exercising. We lived with God before we existed in this mortal state. The memory of this state of life is forgotten, yet not removed. You may find at times that you are learning something you have never learned before and still it seems that you already know it...it is a truth that is part of your being, you have only forgotten. You see, the truth is we are immortal beings having a mortal experience. We will at times have glimpses of what we forgot. Trust those truths and the intelligence that is you leading you to the Savior. There is no greater quest. Everything depends on it. As you listen with your heart, we invite to pray and do the simple things necessary to exercising faith in Christ in every circumstance. Never let Satan remove the reward that is waiting for all true followers. Faith ensures our eternity and the eternity of those we love is more beautiful than mortal mind can imagine.
