Get Real Rae... Real Business & Life Advice

Time is it your best friend or your worst enemy? After all, time keeps on slipping into the future and time does heal everything, but is it about time to think about your relationship with time? Possibly. I for one have been guilty of losing track of time, wasting time, and trying to optimize my time. As a solopreneur, time is of the essence and as a woman of a certain age, I don't have time to waste, after all time is money, so let's get into it.

Mic check, Life check, Biz check, 1-2, 1-2. If you're like me, there may have been times in your life (personal and professional) where you just didn't want to believe something that was staring you right in the face. Look at us in denial, how exciting to have something in common. Seriously, not believing can be exhausting and costly. Side note: when recording this, I had no idea how many songs have "believe" in the lyrics. Anyway, as unbelievable as it may seem, believing is really helpful, but not that fingers crossed blind faith kind of believing. Let's talk about it.

Living as a "digital nomad" sounds glamorous because not a lot of people do it, or rather "can" do it. When you are married, have kids, pets, or are caring for another human, the digital nomad life is much harder to begin, let alone stick with. Some families hit the road with pets in tow, but while this can give kids a broader view of the world and many memorable experiences, it can also leave them struggling with identity and belonging. So, I am a rare unicorn. I'm not in my 20's living a lifestyle that very few people my age get to live, plus I am doing it while owning my own businesses. Nope, I'm not in tech. I do realize there are a number of tech savvy folks out there who have been traveling the world with nothing but a laptop, a VPN, and a cellphone, but that ain't me. Globe trotting cost money and being that I refuse to sponge off others for all of my adult life, I'm stuck to one part of the globe while I continue to pay the bills and do all the other stupid adult things that I have to do. As year 2 of nomad adventures comes to a close, it's time that I dial in and brace for year three. Let's talk about it.RWCZBKgDSK0Y8FEI0j0h

Work? Apparently, doing what you love isn't supposed to feel like work. It's supposed to be the ultimate goal and the past decade has been selling the line that working for yourself is really the ultimate goal. No clue what type of business to start? No problem! Just start that side hustle, open your own laundry mat, become an Airbnb arbitrage master, and with a bit of coding, an e-newletter, and a foreign contractor in the Philippines, you too will never have to work a day in your life. Don't believe the hype? Well, let's talk about it. 

You lucky ducky, you. Your hard work, intensive research, and not giving up attitude has led to your finally getting what you said you wanted. So this should be a time of celebration right? Unfortunately, no matter how much you prepare, sometimes what we wanted feels and looks a whole lot different once we get it.
