When we’re outside on cold days, we can see our breath. In those moments, we become very aware of the air that we’re breathing. Everyday, financial experts analyze the stock market watching to see which companies are worth investing your hard-earned money. When pursuing extreme sports, like skydiving or bungee jumping, it’s understood in the beginning there’s always a level of risk to what you’re doing. In the book of Genesis, Esau is criticised because he gave up his birthright for a bowl of stew. He is criticised because he treated what was to be considered special with no regard. Psalm 37 verse 4 says to delight yourself in the Lord and He will grant you the desires of your heart. What we might realize is that in that process of delighting yourself in the Lord, His presence and anointing will also change the desires of our hearts as well. When armchair quarterbacks watch a football game, they look at professional athletes and say, not only could I do what you do, but I could do it better. What they don’t see is the years of sacrifice and dedication that it took to get them to that point. When a new boxer is learning their sport, they’re taught the basics of breathing, moving, and throwing effective punches. Sometimes, when you commit a parking violation, the city could put a boot around one of the wheels. When large buildings are being made, it’s not just a matter of building the foundation thick so they can build high, they build with certain anticipated resistances. To protect against earthquakes, many buildings are built on a flexible foundation, with shock-absorbers throughout the building that ensure those inside won’t be shaken by what’s going on around them. Applying for a loan, there’s always the possibility that you could be denied the money. Whether you have too much debt already, or your credit score is too low, the bank can find many reasons to deem us unqualified.  Thankfully, the price for our relationship with Jesus has already been paid, and nothing can make us unqualified for that relationship with Him. We may receive with joy, but do we utilize the gift cards we’re given, or do they stay safe, tucked away on a shelf. As kids, we were told time and time again, if you were to ever catch fire you need to stop, drop, and roll. In the summer months, we know that the weather can get extremely hot and humid. Being exposed to those temperatures for long periods can even be dangerous. Learning to live with other people can be a challenge. Conflicting schedules, shared responsibilities, and coordinating meals can make for a lot of tension. However, having people to share experiences, offer support, and even offer a sense of safety makes it all worthwhile. Despite our best efforts, we’ve never been able to control the wind. If we’re wise, we can position our sales and wind turbines to experience its power. John 3 describes the Holy Spirit as a wind, are we positioned to experience His power? We’ll learn more today with Pastor Jeff Edwards.

Philippians 2: 9-11 says Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,  to the glory of God the Father. If you’ve ever been to a hall of mirrors at a carnival or theme park, navigating your way through can feel extremely confusing, partially because the end is not in sight from the very beginning. In life, where we’re going through hard times and the end isn’t in sight, it can feel hopeless. Thankfully though, God is able to make all of these times turn around for our good and His glory. It’s common in the church to describe God as the provider of all of our needs. Most often, this is referred to in regards to our physical and financial needs. Where God does provide for those things, like a spiritual department store, He’s also our source of peace, hope, and breakthrough. Will He be the one we look to when we have a need of any kind? Before a jigsaw puzzle gets assembled, it looks like chaos in a box with no connection or order. It isn’t until you take the time to focus and discern what you’re looking at that you see the big picture. The events in our life can feel that way, random and haphazard. When getting directions, some people prefer street names while others prefer landmarks. Whichever works best for you, it’s clear that you’re headed in the same direction. Is it important for you to receive credit for your actions, or is completing the action its own reward? If you're not concerned with having your name recognized but lifting up the name above all names, there's no telling what God can do with you. The bible tells us in 1 Thessalonians 5 that we are to rejoice in all circumstances. This isn’t exclusive to favourable times, but regardless of how our life seems to be going, we give praise and thanks to God. We’ll learn more today with Pastor Adewale Adedoyin.

Traditions within our family and community can serve as a great way of bringing people together. It’s important though that we don’t forget why we started them in the first place. In some cases, praise in worship has become like that for much of the church. When cave divers are trying to navigate their way underground, they bring with them a line of highly-visible nylon that they unspool as they go. This is so if the visibility gets poor, they have a clear cut path to safety. When we find ourselves in a dark place in life, God provides the lifeline to make it back to safety. Wearing a lifejacket when you’re in a boat can feel restrictive and unnecessary. If you were to fall in the water though, it might be the only thing keeping your head above water. When we’re sick or in need, having someone close by to love and comfort us can be very soothing. But what about when we’re feeling better, are we willing to leave behind what’s comfortable that we might continue to grow? We’ll learn more today with Pastor Jeff.

Every home should carry not just smoke detectors to protect the home in the event of a fire, but a fire extinguisher as well. But it’s not the act of having a fire extinguisher in your home that can prevent disaster, but releasing what’s inside to meet the need of the environment.
