We live in a culture marked by individualism, yet we were designed for community with one another. In Romans 12, God calls us to a radical type of community where we can grow with others. Scripture Reading: Romans 12: 1-13

How do we ourselves grow?  How do we fulfill our mission of helping people find and follow Jesus?   How does Christ's church grow? We kick off our Fall 2026 vision series, NEXT STEPS, with a look at the first step in our growth flywheel: Gather. Maybe it's breaking free of the doom scroll on your phone. Or controlling your lustful or fearful thoughts. Or staying away from the ice cream in the freezer. Or getting up early enough to prioritize time with God. No matter who we are, we all struggle with self control! All the fruit of the Spirit are counter-cultural, but GENTLENESS might be the more counter-cultural of all. And yet the biblical call to gentleness is consistent and clear. 📖 SCRIPTURE READING: Galatians 5: 13 - 6: 2

Patience isn't simply something God commands, but it is first something He demonstrates. God's desire is for his people to be fruitful! God, by his Spirit, produces what he desires in us! As we make countless decisions around how to spend our time, talents, money and our lives, we most often ask "Is it legal? Why does Paul refuse payment for his church ministry? Should all pastors do the same? The world looks one way from ground level. But it looks very different when we get up above it. Just like some of the Christians in Corinth, we are those who fight for our personal rights and freedoms. Like the Corinthians, we are a MESSY CHURCH filled with messy people who are living messy lives. Why does Paul celebrate singleness? Why does he call it a gift when many see it as a curse? In 1 Corinthians 5, Paul begins to confront and correct some MESSY sexual sin in the Corinthian church. In one last effort to call the Corinthian church to humble unity centered on the gospel, Paul exposes how their love of worldly honor is completely at odds with the way of Jesus. Everywhere we look, we see a crisis in leadership: selfish leaders, harsh leaders, failing leaders. But leaders in God's kingdom and church are called to be different. What do leaders shaped by and centered on the Gospel look like? One of the reasons Jesus is God's INDESCRIBABLE gift is because Jesus is the most surprising gift in all history. No one saw God's Savior coming the way he did. Christmas is not a random event on a timeline. It is the epicenter of all human longing, seeking, and meaning! How do you see the local church? How does God see the local church? How we see the local church is vitally important, because our view of the church will determine our commitment to the church and to one another. God's design and desire for his people is spiritual growth and maturity. We learn here that the Corinthian Christians aren't growing up. They are still spiritual babies. In the first four chapters of First Corinthians, Paul calls the divided church of Corinth to a renewed unity around the Gospel. Paul loves the Messy Church at Corinth because God loves the Messy Church at Corinth. It's because Paul loves the church that he won't leave them in their mess, but leads them forward to become all that God has declared them to be. And it doesn't take him long to jump write into one of the core issues plaguing the church.
