Growing in the Word

As we continue studying one of the most exciting books in the New Testament, we'll look once again at the fourth chapter of Colossians. Paul was known  as a man who liked to challenge the Christians around him to strive to be better - and in turn to change the world for better. In Colossians four, verses seven through eighteen we see a great example of a good challenge for all of us. 

Have you ever had that feeling that someone was watching you? Well, if you're a Christian, that feeling is legitimate, because the world is watching. We have an awesome responsibility as believers to live a pure and holy life - so the world will see the difference Christ has made in our lives.

It's amazing how so many useful insights can come from a small letter like Colossians, but we've learned many, many things during our study, and there are many more insight in store for today, especially in the area of the workplace. Again, we'll be in Colossians chapter three and the beginning of chapter four today.

There's nothing like having a really close friend, wouldn't you agree? Someone who is a confidant, and encourager, always there when you need them. As Paul ended his letter to the Colossians, he told them of his friends - who were going out to spread the gospel, as Paul sat in a jail cell.

Today on Growing in the Word we'll continue our study in Colossians.... a letter Paul wrote that we should keep in our hearts and minds and reread often!  Today were looking at the last few verses of chapter three, and we'll get into the relationship between employers and employees. As in every other area of life, there are right and wrong ways for both bosses and workers to act.

The book of Colossians is one of the most read and most loved books in the bible because it paints a perfect picture of Jesus Christ as our Lord and savior. Paul's words in this letter are inspiring, and challenging. Today's message will be a challenge for parents - especially fathers - to have proper relationship with their children. Can you be an effective parent if you're more of a friend than a parent to your kids?

Today we continue in Colossians chapter three, a chapter with a lot of practical truths for family relations. The so-called "nuclear" family is becoming a rarity. A husband, a wife, and their children all living in the same home used to be the norm but in the year 2026, it's definitely not so anymore. Today pastor Jim will encourage fathers to nurture their kids, and respect them as well. We hear a lot about kids respecting their parents. But Paul's words in Colossians three, verses twenty and twenty-one remind us that it should work the other way as well. 

Today we'll return to our study in Colossians chapter three, and we'll concentrate on the relationship between parents and kids. Every parent wants respect from their children - and deservedly so - but it's also a two way street. As parents we have a duty to treat our kids with respect - knowing that they are created in God's image just as we are!

If you're a parent, I'm sure you could use some encouraging words about raising Godly kids. It's a tough job, isn't it? But God has a specific plan for us parents - and He's always there for us in those times when we become frustrated. The world is our enemy when it comes to raising godly kids, there is no question about it.

We're currently studying Colossians three, and for the last couple of broadcasts, Jim has been discussing Husbands and Wives. Today we're going to move along to the other members of the family - the kids. Children are a real blessing - and a real challenge. But God knows what's best when it comes to raising Godly children.

Today on Growing in the Word we return to Colossians three, verses eighteen through twenty-one, and some important precepts about the husband's role in a Godly marriage. Guys - are you ready to be challenged to be the best husband you can be?

Today on Growing in the Word we begin a few days of concentrating on Husbands and Wives, as a part of our study in Colossians, and of course, Colossians is a part of the greatest instruction manual of all time - the Bible!  In the Word we have everything we need to know to have a successful and thriving marriage and family.

We come back to pastor Jim Jarrett's look at Husbands and Wives today, as we consider Colossians three, verses eighteen trough twenty-one.  Wives submitting to their husbands has been a controversial subject for as long as people have been reading these verses. The only reason there's any controversy is that people have consistently misinterpreted what Paul's meaning is.

Last time on the program, pastor Jim Jarrett  showed us what we're to put on in order to have a successful life that is pleasing to God.  Now today, we revisit Colossians three and verses eighteen through twenty-one, and Jim will begin a detailed look at our personal relationships within the family.

Colossians is really an incredible letter when you consider it's message and it's circumstances. Paul wrote this letter from a prison cell. His desire was to lead his beloved friends in Colossi back to Jesus Christ. What a great testimony! Our study today is based on Colossians chapter three, verses fifteen through seventeen.

Today we'll return to his verse by verse study through the book of Colossians, as we look at chapter three, verses nine through seventeen. The people of Colossi were not too different from believers today - they tended to stray away from their faith and trust themselves to find the answers to a fulfilling life. P

 Today on Growing in the Word, we'll continue our study in Colossians chapter three, and again concentrate on the differences between the old person and the new person...the one who's accepted Jesus Christ as Savior. The difference should be as apparent as the difference between a caterpillar and a butterfly.

We appreciate you tuning in today, because we have a really good message to share with you from one of the greatest chapters in the bible - Colossians chapter three. Pastor Jim is going to spend quite a bit of time in this chapter over the next couple of weeks because Paul's words here so perfectly describe the life of a Christian. It's not especially easy to be a believer in the year 2026, but we get some much needed encouragement in today's study.

Sometimes we get impatient, discouraged, and become weary in this life.  It's then that we need to be reminded that good and wonderful things are around the corner, and this is not all there is. It's important at times like these, to set our hearts and minds on things above.  The hereafter is what we are to be here after, as someone has wisely noted. We join pastor Jim Jarrett in Colossians three today, as he highlights the things that matter most.

Pastor Jim Jarrett is continuing his verse by verse study of Colossians, and today we enter chapter three.  Most, if not all of us want to make a difference and a lasting impact.  And if you're a Christian you want to live for the Lord.  However, in this life it is so easy to get off track, and start to focus on things that really don't matter in the light of eternity.

As we complete our look at  Colossians two today, I'll remind you that in this section of God's word,  we've been studying some things that can easily distract and rip us off from what God has for us.  Legalism is a common term for this problem, and it all boils down to where you place your trust - the words of men or the words of God. Too many people today are hung up on following rules and denying themselves the good things of life in order to show God how Godly they are.

Today Jim will bring us another study in the book of Colossians, as we continue a look at a very real threat to our relationship with God - legalism. These verses are well known, but often misunderstood, and that has led to a lot of misunderstanding. It doesn't have to be that way, of course.

There are certainly things in this life that we can't be too confident about. The stock market is a good example, as it has ups and downs that often times resembles a roller coaster ride.  In the midst of this uncertainty, It's nice to know, that we can be confident in the really important things...namely our salvation in Christ.

Today we'll move on in our verse by verse study through Colossians as we begin a look at  chapter two, verses eleven through fifteen. Here we see some very important admonitions from Paul about the difference between law and grace, and becoming a new creation in Christ, and thus showing the world the difference the Lord makes in our lives. 

 As we continue in Colossians two, pastor Jim will speak extensively about false teachers, and he will encourage us to pursue a life of obedience to Christ rather than chasing spiritual goose bumps.  Our scripture reference today is Colossians chapter two, verses eight through ten.

Today on Growing in the Word, Pastor Jim Jarrett will continue our study through Colossians, and we'll see again a warning from Paul about such charlatans. Amazing, isn't it that these words were written so long ago, and yet have such practical application for us today! 

We're currently enjoying a journey through the book of Colossians. This powerful letter is all about one wonderful fact - Jesus is Lord!  Do you think God knew two thousand years ago how relevant these words would be for us today? Of course He did! 

Today on Growing in the Word, our teacher, Pastor Jim Jarrett, will show us through a study of God's word, that there is only one source to turn to for help in becoming a complete person, and it isn't "self". Jesus Christ is the answer to life's problems, and the only road to completeness.

To know Jesus and His attributes is to realize that there no reason to follow any other path but the path that takes you to Him. He paid the full price for our sins, and the rewards of living a life pleasing to Him, and accepting Him as your savior are almost impossible to put into words. We're beginning a study of Colossians chapter two today, so turn there in your Bible and join us.

Today Jim returns to his series in Colossians.  For quite some time now, we've been studying the first chapter of this great book, and gaining marvelous insights for our lives. This powerful letter has a central theme - the majesty and power of Jesus Christ, and the great sacrifice He made on the cross. 

Hopelessness is a problem that plagues many people today. Can you imagine facing the hardships of this world without God? That's the problem for people without hope - they need the hope we find in a relationship with Jesus Christ, Paul addresses our hope of glory in Colossians chapter one. 

Today we'll resume our verse by verse study through Colossians, as we consider obedience.  This life produces a certain amount of suffering for the Christian, but if we remain faithful to God's word, we'll make it through! If you're a parent, you know how happy it makes you when your kids obey and respect your wishes. The same is true with our Heavenly Father.

We'll be continuing our series through Colossians here today on the broadcast, as we begin a four day look at the final six verses in chapter one.  You've no doubt been asked to do something that was a stretching experience for you, that called you to go out of you comfort zone.  Well, sometimes our call to ministry will lead us beyond our comfort zone too, and that's a good thing as we'll soon see. 

Today we continue our series through the book of Colossians. We will be looking today at chapter one, verses nineteen through twenty. These verses have to do with Jesus Christ and His role as reconciler. Who did He reconcile? Jesus came to earth and died on a cross to reconcile us with God.

In times of trial it's comforting to realize that our Lord Jesus Christ is in charge of everything. We are in Colossians chapter one today, and pastor Jim will share some truths about our savior as we study this essential scripture.

We're told in scripture that Jesus is the creator of heaven and earth.  So, then what should we do if He really is the God of creation?  Pastor Jim Jarrett will pursue that question here today on Growing in the Word.

Remember that this letter from Paul was written to a group of believers, the Colossians, who had been deceived by false teachers. In the verses we'll study today, Paul goes about setting the record straight on exactly who Jesus Christ is. 

We're currently studying the book of Colossians, and today we'll bring you the second half of a study Jim began last time, dealing with chapter one, verses nine through fourteen. One mistake many people make is believing that you can have a halfway relationship with God. Can you believe in Him, and serve Him, and still walk in the darkness of the world?

Colossians chapter one points us toward our inheritance in heaven...an inheritance that no amount of money can buy! If you had to choose between riches on earth and riches in heaven, what would be your "final answer"?

When you think about the great men of the Bible, one name that is near the top of everyone's list is the Apostle Paul. One of his greatest qualities was his selflessness. Today as we continue studying Colossians chapter one, we see this trait quite clearly. Paul is in jail in Rome, and yet his concern is for his brothers in the Colossian church. They've been deceived and taken in by some false doctrine, and Paul writes this little letter to help get them back on course.

Today on Growing in the Word as we continue our new series in Colossians, we'll see that this is the very situation Paul finds himself in. His brothers in the Colossians church had allowed some false teaching to creep into their doctrine. As he always does, Paul comes up with some wonderful advice for the Colossians, and our teacher, Jim Jarrett, will take us through them today.
