He Did Deliver Me From Bondage

In this episode Colleen and Lisa interview Bryan, a man in long term recovery from an addiction to pornography and lust. Bryan's story of addiction begins with him being exposed to pornography as a young boy of just five or six years old.  His attraction to pornography and lust later developed into an addiction that progressed and plagued him most of his life, until a powerful experience in the temple became his rock bottom.  From that moment Bryan decided to find out if Christ could truly redeem even him. Bryan's story of redemption, his insights, and his new found understanding and love for the Savior are powerful.

In this episode Colleen and Lisa interview Carole a person fresh in recovery. Carole shares her difficult and heartbreaking journey of battling multiple addictions, and finally finding healing and a new way of life through Jesus Christ. She brings the special spirit of joy and excitement that often radiates from those new to recovery. Her courage and hope in sharing her story, especially this early in her recovery journey, is truly inspiring.

This episode is a conversation between Colleen and Lisa about Lisa's personal recent relapse.  They talk about conversations and scriptures and personal revelation and how connecting with Christ is getting Lisa through and bringing her back again and again to the goodness and love of both Jesus Christ and God. 

This is the third episode in our Kimberly trilogy.  In this episode Kimberly comes back, this time to help her friend Barbara share her story.  Barbara suffers from a language disorder called aphasia due to a brain injury, but an enduring and special friendship between these two amazing women makes it possible for Barbara's story to be shared.  It is an inspiring story of perseverance and strength, and how Christ turned Barbara's devastating defeats into glorious victories. Kimberly shares her journey of finding healing and hope after a terrible accident involving her semi-truck. She recounts how the twelve steps of recovery came into play in that journey continuing to occupy an essential place in her life, her healing, and her divine relationships.

In this episode Colleen and Lisa discuss Elder Patrick Kearon's talk from the October 2025 General Conference, titled Jesus Christ and Your New Beginning.  They share their insights and personal revelation about the everlasting mercy of Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father, and add their testimonies that each of us are given as many new beginnings as we need through the power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ.

In this episode Lisa and Colleen have the opportunity to interview Cori the mother of and adult child who struggles with substance abuse addiction. In her own words, she was a desperately fearful woman who did not know what to do, and was then invited to an addiction recovery meeting.  Through attending meetings and working the twelve steps with a sponsor, she experienced her own transformative healing and came to know Christ as her personal Savior.  Her story will inspire you on your own personal journey.

In this episode Colleen and Lisa interview Ben Erwin, the Program Manager for Healing Through the Savior: The Addiction Recovery Program of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  Ben shares the inside scoop on the history of the addiction recovery program in the church, the latest revision of the manual, and news of a future new family support guide. Along the way, Ben shares his personal involvement in these processes working for several years at The Church of Jesus Christ Family Services.

In this episode Lisa and Colleen interview a unique guest, Colleen's son Spencer. Spencer tells his story of growing up in a difficult home where he experienced several forms of abuse, and developed an addiction to pornography, and lust. In this episode Lisa and Colleen interview Seth and Nicole, a couple in relationship recovery.  They briefly share their own recovery process, and then move to a discussion about the recovery of their marriage through attending a Recovering Couples Anonymous meeting and working the 12 steps for their coupleship. Their story illustrates the healing and miracles that are possible not only for us as individuals, but also for our relationships through the Atonement of Jesus Christ.

In this episode Lisa and Colleen interview Wendy Hales, a person in recovery from alcoholism.  Wendy recounts an incredible story of how she was lifted from a life of hopelessness and shame to a knowledge of God's love for her and a relationship with Jesus Christ that she thought could not be possible for her.  Her journey has brought her to seek first and foremost to be of maximum usage to God.  Wendy's words will touch your heart and inspire you to continue on in your own journey with greater hope and faith in Christ and His power to heal and redeem us all.

In this episode we get the opportunity to hear from Ali.  Ali is the wife of Chaz who was our guest in episode 70.  Ali joins us to tell her own story of healing and hope as the wife of a pornography addict.  She shares her journey of working the twelve steps for herself and her marriage and the joy and happiness her and Chaz have found both individually and together. 

In this episode we get the opportunity to hear from Chaz, a person in recovery from lust and pornography addiction. Chaz speaks about many different aspects of his journey including the power that came into his life as he overcame fear and began to share his story. In this episode Colleen and Lisa cover the final appendix materials of the book, including several pages grouped together as Twelve Step Information.  These pages were added to the book in 1991 coinciding with the establishment of Heart t' Heart, an LDS Twelve Step addiction recovery organization. Colleen and Lisa give some background information about these materials and a brief summary of their purpose, bringing us to the end of the content of the book!! In this episode Colleen and Lisa discuss another doctrinal essay found in the appendix titled Discussion On Opposition. This essay is referenced on page 133 in the chapter that focuses on Step 10. The essay itself is Colleen's personal capturing of the scriptures 2 Nephi 2: 11-13, and discusses the absolute truth that there is opposition in all things.

In this episode listeners get an opportunity to listen to a recording of Benjamin's Promises, a doctrinal essay written by Colleen and found in the appendix.  Benjamin's Promises takes a close look at Mosiah chapter 4, and the principles and promises it contains.  

In this episode Colleen and Lisa discuss the very last section of the chapter titled I Was Desirous That My Family Should Partake. They cover four "pointers" from Colleen on how to continue on this journey that you have begun by going through this book and working these steps. The four pointers are scripture study, prayer, ordinances, and personal revelation. Colleen shares a few words about what an epilogue to the book would be like today and then both Lisa and Colleen outline what the next few podcast episodes will contain as they make their way through the appendix to the end of the book.

They begin with a deeper dive into the principle opposition using the appendix, discussing how without opposition ,ultimately we nor God could even exist. Then they return to the chapter to discuss the need for continual repentance and progression for our entire lives, growing in our ability to receive revelation, the blessing of continued humbling experiences, and once again, how Christ's mercy and grace, are the only solution to every challenge and trial we face.

In this episode Colleen and Lisa discuss the first half of the chapter Retain a Remission of Your Sins.  They share personal insights and experiences relating to step ten, including the truth that in order to retain the change of heart we have experienced, we must continue to apply and live by the principles that we have learned in the previous nine steps. Step ten is the first of the three maintenance steps. This step helps us to understand that rather than arriving at perfection, we will continue learning and progressing throughout our entire mortal life.  And rather than this truth discouraging us, we can embrace it with gratitude and excitement. God has so much more in store for each of us!

These scriptures prepare us for the concepts we will discuss and learn in Step Ten: Realizing that the weakness to be tempted and to sin is a part of the mortal experience, we continue to take personal inventory and promptly admitted it, being willing to repent as often as needed.

These scriptures prepare us for the concepts we will discuss and learn in Step Eight: Made a list of all persons we had harmed and became willing to make restitution to all of them (even those we had harmed in what we might have considered righteous anger), desiring instead to be peacemakers and to do all that we could to come unto God by being first reconciled to others.
