Why we push people away when we need them most
Have you ever said you're fine when you absolutely weren't? Or watched someone you love disappear into their grief and push you away, even though that's when they need you most? There's something deeply human about withdrawing when we're hurting the most. But research shows us that the very moment we need connection is often when it feels most impossible to receive it. Today we're talking about what's actually happening inside us when we isolate, why the people we push hardest are often the ones we trust most, and what it really means to show up for someone in the dark. In This Episode: Why isolation isn't relief, it's a self-reinforcing loop that amplifies distress by making our brain interpret the world as more threatening the more alone we are The burden belief: that deep, unconscious conviction that we're too much and our pain is an inconvenience, so we push people away before they get the chance to leave How Scripture doesn't shame us for withdrawing (Naomi, Elijah, Psalm 88), but shows us that God meets us there and sends us people who refuse to be pushed away If you're isolating: find just one person and let them sit with you in it without needing to fix it. If you're being shut out: keep showing up in low-demand ways and prove through continued presence that you're not going anywhere Connect with us! Healing Your Past to Disciple Your Daughter with Dannah Gresh
Dannah Gresh has been shaping conversations about faith, purity, and womanhood for over two decades. She's the bestselling author of And the Bride Wore White, founder of True Girl, and a voice calling moms and daughters to get closer to each other and closer to Jesus. Today we're talking about reconstructing the purity conversation, why the word itself matters, and how healing from our past prepares us to disciple the next generation. In This Episode: Why Dannah pulled over on the side of the road 26 years ago and decided to do the healing work she wasn't brave enough to do for herself, but would do for her six-month-old daughter The nuanced truth about purity culture: what was good, what got murky, and why we need to reconstruct the conversation instead of deconstructing it What the Hebrew word "yada" reveals about God's design for sex, and why it transcends the physical to get at our deepest desires to be known and respected Why moms need to be healed first before they can sexually disciple their kids, and how confessing to safe people brings the healing that confession to God alone doesn't complete Connect with us! To the Graduates
My baby girl Kloe is graduating from high school this week, and it doesn't seem real that 18 years have gone by so fast. So many of the girls I love are stepping into this next chapter, and I have some things on my heart I want to say to all of you. You don't have to have it all figured out. You just need the next right step. Here's what I wish I could tell every graduate walking across that stage. In This Episode: Why getting plugged into a local church isn't just a nice extra, it's the thing that will shape every decision you make about your career, your relationships, and your future How to choose friends wisely: find girls who value what you value, but beware of the ones who are always talking about other girls because they're probably talking about you too The truth about your career path: God doesn't show you the whole 10-year picture, He shows you the next step, then the next one, then the one after that Standing firm in your convictions when the rest of the room is doing something different, and remembering that your worth doesn't shrink because someone fails to see it Connect with us! Her Favorite Color Is Purple: A Trip of a Lifetime With Candyce DeKruyff
Y'all, this conversation is one I have been waiting to share. My friend Candyce DeKruyff just got home from a trip of a lifetime, and she is sitting down with me today to tell us all about it. For nearly three decades Candyce has been faithfully serving with Operation Christmas Child, and as the area coordinator for five counties here in central Alabama, she has counted and prayed over thousands of shoeboxes headed out into the world. This spring, she finally got to see the other side of that work in Trinidad and Tobago, watching children open the very kind of boxes she has packed for years. Friend, our God is such a big, big, big God. He sees a little girl who loves purple, and he sees you right where you are listening. Come hear Candyce's story, and then go pack a box. Satan's Strategic Attacks
In this episode, I share a powerful lesson that hit me during my slow-and-steady Bible reading journey—one that changed the way I see the story of David and Goliath. We dig into how Satan doesn’t attack us randomly—he targets the very areas where God wants to use us most. I reflect on a personal experience from my teaching days that mirrors David’s moment, and together, we uncover how to recognize these strategic attacks and respond with faith, not fear. You can win but still feel empty
I landed my dream licensing clients: the ones I'd prayed over for years, the ones I rallied everyone to help me win. I walked into a shop in Seaside and saw my art on their shelves, and it felt like I'd made it. But here's the thing about chasing beautiful things: beautiful and lasting aren't the same. James 1:11 warns us that even the richest, most successful pursuits will fade, and you can win the thing you've been chasing and still feel empty. In This Episode: Why I started chasing art licensing in the first place The disorienting feeling when a dream you finally land doesn't deliver what you thought it would Blake McCoskey's story: he built Tom's Shoes, sold it for millions, helped people worldwide, and still felt empty The real question is: who are you without the thing you're chasing, and are the people who matter most getting the best of you or just what's left over? Quick to Listen, Slow to Speak
My husband has told me "Kasey, I wasn't done" more times than I can count. I think that pause means he's finished, so I jump in... and suddenly a normal conversation has an edge to it. James 1:19 sounds simple on the surface: be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger. But when you really sit with it, this verse gets into your business in the best way possible. The Secret to Gaining Wisdom
Eighteen years ago, I enrolled in a master's degree program without praying about it once. I had all the research, all the numbers, all the logic, and I still ended up spending time and money on something I never finished or used. That expensive lesson taught me something I want to give you for free: information is not wisdom, and doing the next logical thing is not the same as doing the next right thing. Connect with us! Half a million meals started with one question
Half a million meals. That number still takes my breath away. But this story didn't start with a big organization or a master plan—it started with a simple prayer at 4am and a question: God, how can I be a better steward of what you've given me? What happened next proves that God doesn't need something big from us. He just needs what's already in our hands. In This Episode: How a sleepless night and a childhood memory of Rice Bowls led to teaching kids that generosity starts with awareness, not resources The story of Katie, a young art student who went door-to-door with her Rice Bowl and eventually traveled to Honduras to meet the kids she helped feed Meeting Christian in Honduras—a little boy with a string bracelet who's now in college, owns land, and represents the long-term impact of small acts of obedience Why the one-for-one model works: every student who walks through our doors helps feed a child, proving that God multiplies what we place in His hands Connect with us! Choosing Life - A story of Faith, Fear, and God's Faithfulness with Halee Vaughan
When Halee got a phone call hours after a routine ultrasound, everything changed. The words "cystic hygroma" and "10% chance of survival" shattered her carefully planned world. But over the months that followed, through weekly appointments, grim statistics, and doctors who suggested ending her pregnancy, she learned what it means to trust God in the unknown and choose life even when the odds seem impossible. In This Episode: Navigating pregnancy when doctors give you a 10% survival rate and the emotional weight of living week-to-week in the unknown Why choosing a different medical provider matters—finding doctors who will support your faith-based decisions instead of pushing termination The beautiful "God winks" along the way: how butterflies became a constant theme before Halee even knew her daughter's diagnosis would be represented by a butterfly Halee's message to mothers facing scary diagnoses: statistics don't define your baby's story, and there are doctors who will encourage you to choose life Connect with us! Who's Driving
We all want guidance and direction in life, but we also want to maintain control. I learned something powerful standing in a parking lot in Atlanta: there's a big difference between having a navigation system and having an actual driver who knows the route. What if the stress and exhaustion we feel comes from trying to navigate our own lives when God is ready to take the wheel? In This Episode: What a driverless car in downtown Atlanta taught me about trusting God with the unknowns instead of trying to control every detail The difference between having a route programmed versus having a driver who's actually seen the road, and why God's experience matters more than our planning How white-knuckling the steering wheel of our lives keeps us from experiencing the beauty of what God is doing around us Practical steps for letting God drive: prayer, journaling, silence, and taking the next step without needing to see the whole route mapped out Connect with us! From small business to unexpected impact with Taylor Moore
Taylor Moore started Tees by Taylor at 20 years old with a newborn baby and a dream she'd been praying about since ninth grade. What began as one t-shirt printer in 2020 has grown into a fully faith-based company that's impacting lives far beyond Alabama. Saying Yes when it doesn't make sense
Two weeks ago, I had a thought I'd never thought before: take your book to market. The problem? Market was eight days away, and my devotional about hearing God's voice wasn't even finished yet. But what if impossible timing is exactly God's invitation to trust Him? In This Episode: Recognizing God's voice through unexpected thoughts, dreams, and open doors, even when the timing feels crazy Why walking by faith means taking the next step before you can see steps two, three, and four The three questions that keep us from following God's leading: Does this feel crazy? 111: Rest
This week, I'm talking about the power of rest. Recently, I had the incredible privilege of participating in the annual tradition of a girls' weekend away at the beach and the rest I was able to get from that retreat gave me the resilience to handle all the things I needed to come home and take care of back in real life. If you won't take my word for it, we're also looking at the Bible for examples where we are called to rest... and not because we've "earned it," but because we need it. 110: God I need a sign
In this episode, I talk about something we can all relate to - that natural desire to wait for God's confirmation before we step out in faith. From beautiful Biblical stories to personal examples from my own life, I'm sharing how God's confirmation often comes after our obedience, not before. If you've ever found yourself hesitating to take that next step because you're waiting for a clear sign, this episode will encourage you to trust God's faithfulness and step into the water first. I hope it gives you the gentle push you need to take that step of faith you've been putting off! Join Whatever Letter for your happy mail! https://whateverletter.com/ Connect with us! 109: Out of Rhythm
Summer has thrown my entire world into chaos and maybe you can relate! I notice it every single summer - gone are those predictable mornings and reliable rhythms that keep me grounded. As we're getting closer to school starting, I'm reminded how much I love routine and how much we all need rhythm in our lives. When our rhythms get disrupted, everything suffers - not just our schedules, but our spiritual lives too. Join Whatever Letter for your happy mail! https://whateverletter.com/ Connect with us! 108: From Products to Purpose: When God Pivots Your Business
I have such a special guest today that I think you're going to love listening to: Krystal Whitten, a hand lettering artist who had her products in stores all across America for years. But recently, God has been pivoting her business in a completely new direction, and her story is going to encourage anyone who's listening to God's leading in their own life transitions. If you're in your own season of wondering what's next or feeling God stirring up changes in your path, Krystal's journey of releasing what was comfortable to step into what God had next is going to speak right to your heart. BONUS REPLAY: "As You Go" Ministry
This week, I want to share how everyday acts of kindness and service, like a hamster, a handwritten letter, and a home-cooked meal, have been powerful ministry tools in my life. Discipleship doesn't require formal roles or platforms, but simply keeping our eyes open to the needs around us. My hope is to inspire you to recognize the opportunities for ministry all around you, right where you are. Connect with us! 107: Chats with Girls on How to Connect with Adults
In this episode, I sit down with three incredible teenage girls: my daughter, my niece, and one of their closest friends, to hear straight from them what actually makes them feel connected to the adults in their lives. If you’ve ever felt unsure of how to bridge the gap with a teen who’s pulling away, their honesty will meet you right where you are. These conversations reminded me that connection isn’t about having all the answers, it’s about being intentional, being present, and showing up as a safe place. Whether you're a parent, grandparent, teacher, or mentor, this episode is a beautiful reminder that it’s never too late to lean in with love. Connect with us! 106: The Key to Faith
In this episode, I'm talking about something I think is super important but we don't use enough: remembering what God has already done for us. Just like David remembered how God helped him fight lions and bears before he faced the giant, we need to remember all the times God has shown up in our lives when we're scared about what's happening right now. I'm sharing some easy ways to keep track of God's faithfulness and why remembering His goodness actually helps our brains choose faith over fear. When you're facing something big and scary today, the answer isn't in trying to think positive thoughts - it's in remembering all the ways God has already taken care of you before. Connect with us! 105: Navigating Adult Friendships
In this episode, I sat down with my very best friend since fourth grade, Alli Hunter, to talk about something so many of us struggle with—adult friendships. We opened up about how our friendship has lasted through all of life’s stages and what it really takes to keep friendships strong when life gets busy. I shared what’s worked for me, how I think about healthy versus unhealthy dynamics, and why I believe God created us for community. If you’ve ever felt lonely, unsure how to maintain your friendships, or just want to be more intentional, this conversation is for you. Connect with us! 104: Guided Meditation
Lately, I’ve been seeing the surprising power of just 10 minutes. Whether it's creating art, organizing a messy studio, or simply sitting still with God, small pockets of time can create real transformation. In this episode, I guide you through a simple 10-minute meditation to help you slow down, refocus, and rest in God's presence, because even a few quiet minutes can reset your whole day and remind you that you are deeply loved. 103: Making Time for the Moments that Matter
This summer looks different, and honestly, it’s teaching me a lot. Shifting rhythms and interrupted schedules are nudging me to redefine what “valuable time” really means and why I believe the enemy wants us to think those quiet, seemingly unproductive moments don’t count. Spoiler: they absolutely do. This is a reminder, for me and maybe for you too - that presence is the reward. Connect with us! 102: Running On Empty
If you’ve ever kept pushing when you knew you were running on empty, you’re not alone. In this episode, I’m sharing why it matters to pause before the breakdown: spiritually, emotionally, and relationally. We weren’t made to live in constant burnout, and there’s strength in slowing down, asking for help, and letting God refuel us. This is your reminder that empty isn’t a failure. It’s an invitation to rest. Connect with us! Website: https://www.pzazzonline.com/ Facebook: www.facebook.com/pzazzartstudio Instagram- www.instagram.com/pzazzartstudio Text us: 1-334-249-1818

101: Secret to Happiness
This episode is such a tender reminder of how deeply joy and connection are woven together. I share stories from the life of our dear Avery—how her quiet, intentional acts of love created ripple effects of happiness and belonging. As we celebrate her legacy, I hope you’ll be inspired to see that true joy doesn’t come from chasing big things, but from choosing to love others well in the small, consistent ways.
