Daniel Paikea
In this powerful and deeply personal conversation, I chat with Pastor Dan Paikea from Gold Coast Chapel, to talk about one of the hardest seasons his family has ever faced. On June 11th, 2025, Dan's son Joel was involved in a devastating motorbike accident while out delivering Uber Eats. Within hours, the family found themselves in the ICU facing a reality no parent ever wants to hear. Doctors told them the injuries were severe and they could not guarantee Joel would survive. What followed was a journey through trauma, uncertainty, faith, and an incredible outpouring of community support. Joel suffered multiple life-threatening injuries including a severe brain injury, a torn aorta, a shattered femur, and extensive damage to his leg. He spent nearly a month in a coma and months recovering in hospital. But this story isn't just about the accident. It's about what happened in the weeks and months that followed. Dan shares what it was like sitting in the ICU not knowing if his son would wake up, the tension between medical reality and faith, and how thousands of people around the world began praying for Joel. We talk about the moments that stood out during the recovery, the role of worship and prayer in the hospital room, and the surprising encounters with paramedics and surgeons who were there the night Joel's life was saved. It's an honest conversation about pain, hope, faith, and the power of community when life suddenly turns upside down. If you or someone you love has ever faced a moment where everything felt uncertain, this conversation will encourage you!
