by Lisa Orkin
♥Honestly Lisa is a Pu Pu Platter of my life.I am on a mission to figure out what I am supposed to do with my life. I have been in the desert forever with no Moses to show me the way. Lost at 50 something, I am talking to everyone from family,, guru's, spiritual leaders, life coaches, ex-boyfriends, childhood friends, thought leaders and maybe even Oprah in search of who I am and what I'm supposed to be. when I grow up. Listen to me fall down, tell stories and search for a reason or a livelihood. There is salty language, talk of sex , feelings, and spiritual stuff. So, you may not want to listen in front of the kids or your coworkers. There's interviews, essays, and sketch.Love Bites are audio clips based on real conversations from my love life, featuring my friend Robbie Rist, who plays every man who has graced my path.Men Are People Too, where I interview a variety of men; comedians, actors, musicians, artists, writers, computer programmers, yoga guru's, to gain a someti

Episode Put Your Money Where Your Self-Love Is! Feat. Denise Duffield-Thomas
"Wealth consists not in having great possessions, but in having few wants."Epictetus I have struggled to make enough money my whole adult life and when I had money I spent it, and not well. I grew up very comfortable and so I don't where I developed this weird story with money. I have read so many books on money blocks and manifestation! Still, I have not truly gotten a handle on it. Now, I always try to make it through and it always comes at the last second, but I am not where I want to be at all. I don't want just enough to get by anymore! I do want enough to pay my bills, travel, buy cute shoes once in a while and not to panic from the 20th until the end of the month and live paycheck to paycheck. It's so hard to be honest with myself. Getting Denise on my show felt like a real coup! I was so excited and what I learned was she is super real, full-hearted and very vulnerable. The other thing I learned was I need to take her course and get full on Denise support and take the maybe painful deep dive. Denise is not about magical thinking she is smart and practical. It's not about saying a million mantras and listening to subliminal money meditations. It's about knowing your worth and value and believing it! Looking at what you have and grow it and be honest with yourself. Really fucking honest! Now with all that said, I learned a lot in our hour together and you will too. SHOW NOTES: Denise helps people get their money stories straight. People really ignore the obvious and try to earn money doing something that isn't their true passion. We are being called to let go of what isn't working anymore. It takes courage and a leap of faith. We need to give ourselves the permission to change and move into what we want. You have to declutter your life before the Universe can give you more. The core of Denise's work is self love and acceptance. There aren't any rules anymore about anything. We can look at our culture and see our money blocks reflected back to us. Quit saying what you DON'T have. Episode Epic Danger feat. Nick McArthur
Every once in a while you find someone you know you have to be friends with and for me that's Nick. He is kind, tough, romantic, evolved and super real and cool. And this is why I love Nick, in Nick's words, "I'm a dude, with a wife, five kids an online business. I also happen to have a history of living as a woman. This little piece of the internet is where I'll attempt to tell you all my secret views of the world as someone who has lived fully on both sides of the gender coin. I believe in soul mates and destiny and so many hippie things. I believe in morning sex and donuts for breakfast and Thursday night concerts in dives with beer in plastic cups. I also believe in the word Mother Fucker… try it, it feels good as it rolls off the tongue." Nick was born with ovaries and lived as a woman, married a man, and gave birth to 4 children and then fell in love with the beautiful Anna and now lives as a transman with Anna. Together they have 5 children, Brave and authentic! Show Notes & Links Epic Danger The Very Best Man Nick has given birth to five babies. If I going to be a girl I am going to be the best at it. Trans-friendly people Hormones change the way you smell and taste. Listen to the first to the first time. Men listen to men differently than women... they actually listen to men. I stopped in the middle of the podcast to yell at my cat. Hormones give Nick more energy that needs to be put somewhere. I need to fight someone or fuck someone. Do mothers take more ownership of their children? Why does their house always look clean on Instagram when they have 5 kids. Anna is a professional organizational coach. Declare Dominion. Nick's Instagram Nick is studying to be a paramedic. I don't have to go to my kid's holiday concerts anymore. Nick's favorite swear word is fuck. Favorite Bush is lilac. Nick changes would be to grow a beard and end child marriage. We discuss hairy bodies in depth. How the hormone changes your body and how it's like puberty. Lost masturbater on my porch.

Every Little Thing She Does is Magic Feat. Michelle Simkins
Michelle is one of those cool people who is unapologetically herself…. created her life the way she wants it & walks her talk. Growing up witches were either Bewitched or the Wicked Witch of the West, not the cool chick your friends with. That's why I dig Michelle because she breaks the mold because her intention is to help people through her practices and craft. Listen in and you learn what it is to be a modern-day witch. Actually, I think most women are modern-day witches. Michelle is magical! SHOW NOTES: Michelle makes amazing talisman. A lot of people carry family and ancestral patterns. The deeper the wound the harder it is to remove. Being a witch for Michelle means: an inner knowing, making magic for healing, tuning into the earth and seasonal cycles. There is a magical and spiritual component to being a witch. The less apologetic you are, the less flack you get. It is all about boundaries. Naked Talk feat. Karly Nimmo
I kind of feel naked with a bloated belly in this episode. I was so lost in my own negativity spiral when I recorded this episode. Then I found Zofie and Relax Me Happy and my perspective has really shifted. Maybe I was not ready or maybe I did not have the right teacher. I know it sounds simple, but since then I have been so focused on ye old proverbial phrase "glass half full". Anyhow, this is a very honest interview with Karly Nimmo, who is so lovable, honest and smart and makes you feel like her instant best friend. I feel like she and I are spiritual/podcasting soul sister and we both also have voice over careers! I dream of having a podcast with Karly! And going on retreats with her in Thailand. Or maybe Karly and I meet in Thailand every 6 months and record 20 episodes at a time! Dreamy! Meet Karly Nimmo! You will love her! SHOW NOTES: We are often looking for that place when we are free of struggle…that fairy tale place. We're just where we need to be at any given moment. Leaning in means allowing and trusting instead of resisting. The judgement of others doesn't matter. People are generally uncomfortable with other's pain. They want us not to feel that pain, because it makes them feel uncomfortable. We are already the person we are meant to be, we are just not seeing it because we are over complicating it. Thinking about dying makes shit very real. It's all about choices, and taking responsibility for ourselves. Be okay with it, own it. The world is just the mirror to what is going on inside. Judgement is always about us. When you strip away all the other voices and other people's stories about you, you get to the real you. The love we crave is there ALL THE TIME. Your version of success can only be defined by YOU You can't be all things to all people. You can only be you. Stalking Happiness feat. Zofie Lloyd-Kucia
Since my divorce, over 15 years ago I have been on a quest for happiness and enlightenment. Books, podcasts, audio tapes, audiobooks, mantras, yoga, prayer, meditation, therapy, retreats, seminars, grateful apps, A Course of Miracles (I've done the first two weeks a half dozen times), a cord cutter (don't ask), a shaman, many Super Souls Sundays and list could go on! I was chasing it away! Get rid of those negative thoughts! Do it right now! Do it! And then I met Zofie, practical, real and so funny, she gives a relaxed easy approach to letting go of those negative thoughts and finding your own happy place. I use her mediations on a daily basis these days. And they are knocking the shit out of my ancient stories about myself and life and I am seeing the forest through the trees. She has one on her website you can get for free! So, meet Zofie Lloyd-Kucia… this is her first time but won't be her last on Honestly Lisa. And FYI, in the not too distant future, we are going to do about three sessions ala Katy Perry style for you all to hear. SHOW NOTES It's all about using relaxation to find happiness or success. Live without love, laughter, and fun doesn't make sense. Living with Faith and Trust helps things work out. Our thoughts really matter. You don't need to make yourself happy. You just need to stop fucking things up. It's not about what you do, but how you feel. Life is a big mirror. When you shift how you feel, your life will reflect that. You are born on this earth to have fun, so get on with it! The less we judge, the freer we are. Life feels easier when we just state things factually. Goodness is flowing to us all. The questions is how much will you allow? Be mindful of where your focus is. Don't say I'm afraid, say I'm excited! It's the same in your body. Take the pressure off. Seeking your happiness should be stressful. Ever. Till Death Do Us Plan feat. Michelle Pante & Reena Lazar
I have Michelle Pante & Reena Lazar on this episode from the glorious inspiring Willow EOL. They help us look at the things that may be scary but important to grasp because ultimately, looking at the end of our lives can inspire us to live fully right now. Honestly, this is a pretty funny interview and not a downer at all… you will laugh ass off and maybe cry a little. Like a good romcom. ♥ I remember calling my mother about a week before she died to ask her what color Crocs(the shoes) she wanted. My sister said to me, Lisa she is dying and does not need shoes. I argued with my sister to not be such a Debbie Downer and then bought my mom a leopard pair Crocs. I arrived at my moms' house with leopard Crocs in hand to find my whole family sitting with her. My mom still able to talk said thank you and looked at me with a mom look and I began to sob, really sob. And I could not stop crying until… well… I am still crying now writing this. It's been almost 10 years and I still cry out of nowhere. I still have the crocks. They are my go-to yoga shoes and every time I look down I see my mom. I want to be buried in the leopard Crocs, they will be super comfortable to wear in the afterlife. SHOW NOTES Willoweol It's about the legacy you leave in the world. If you take care of things now, it will make a huge difference in the future. Do it yourself home funerals Green burials Community Based Death Caring Community Based Learning Inspires people take charge of their lives by taking care of their death Death as a cool adventure The Ultimate Transformation Most people are fascinated by what they do There is something empowering about planning your death Departure directions: understanding the scope of your options Love letters and heart wills: take time to write lasting messages to those they love and legacy letters. here is the link to WillowEOL to download your free guide and write your heart will. We're Moving in Together feat. JP Sears
When I first saw JP Sears I fell in love with him, laughed my ass off and then I thought with a giant pause... WAIT! Woah, Nellie! Spiritual comedy is my bag! Then the more I watched the more I loved the door he opened! Then the more I watched the more I loved the door he opened! Then I sent him a note asking him to be on Honestly Lisa and he said yes! Talking to JP was like talking to a brother from another mother. I felt like we had been playing in the same sandbox for many lifetimes. I had a bit of the nervous giggles in the beginning... fangirling all over him. Listen in and see if you can hear the giggles... also you can head over to my patreon or youtube to watch the video. JP SEARS SHOW NOTES: Breathing is not an essential part of deep breaths How to be Ultra Spiritual JP is humorous and serious at the same time There is some truth in all jokes and a joke in all truths. Current girlfriend Amber thinks he is funny, his last girlfriend didn't think he was funny Amber and JP are engaged! The victim is who we think we are. Lisa does her chanting in Sanskrit and English…San-Linguish Kundalini starts where your doo doo comes out When I'm not in denial I feel blessed…JP Success is basically that you are nice to people You have to be nice to yourself and other people to be successful Being nice to yourself isn't taking yourself to a spa. It's the fucking comments in your head The inner critic has endless material, it's even in alphabetical order One of the ingredients of being nice to ourselves is being nice to the parts of us that aren't nice to us (inner critic) Bulletproof coffee JP is going on a comedy tour on the East Coast JP's Book How To Be Ultra Spiritual You can also get JP Book free when you join Audible with Lisa's special URL! audiblefreetrial.com/honestlylisa Lisa should be opening for JP on his comedy tour.(Tell JP! Email him!) Lisa's recommendation for JP's comedy tour: playing theaters and not comedy clubs, bill it as the Unfunny Comedy Tour, an opening act Say your fucking truth in every moment. Is my truth that I'm not saying my truth right now. What is my truth and will no one like me if I say my truth? Comedy is science to Lisa JP started as a life coach and emotional healing Keep growing using the same means that got us to grow to a certain point We need to let go of what has served us well to keep growing. Whether we need to let something go or life seemingly takes it from us it is a form of letting go. The more stubborn we are and are not willing to let us go, life will make us let it go. The unknown is the greatest mystery. The three C's…Creativity, Connection, Curiosity Austin, Texas a high vibe, high consciousness place Laying in bed like Willy Wonka's grandparents Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is about what they didn't show you Walmart is close to heaven JP prefers Target over Walmart Willy Wonka When we listen to other people tell us what our truth is, we will go crazy. Funny thing about people is that we are not all the same. If someone is trying to treat us all the same, they are full of shit. Lisa doesn't do well on a vegan diet, but feels guilty about eating meat. JP eats a strict vegan diet, and a meat-eating diet simultaneously. Everyone is very different in the same way. Being yourself is being just like everyone else trying to be themselves. There is strength in words that sound like...

Are you a good Daughter? feat. Kelly Carlin
I have the thoughtful, smart, talented Kelly Carlin in the studio today! We have a ton in common, both tendered & raised by professionally funny men. Chickenman & The Hippy Dippy Weatherman I am not sure I have discussed the fact my dad was Chickeman. He was local radio personality in Chicago and dressed up in feathers and tights and went to malls on weekends to meet people. After the feathers, he became a national radio guy and advertising guru as well. I always thought kelly's dad was much cooler, truly the comic's comic that spans generations with his humor and brilliance. I was lucky enough in my Comedy Store days to watch him put together shows. All that being said, they are still just our dad's, that we love, and try are best to be the good girl for... or the good daughter. Kelly and I unpacked our lives as daughter's, showbiz struggles and finally how to be your own women. Kelly is doing full force... me I am a bit behind. I think we both dove deep in this conversation and held nothing back, talked about everything from Carl Jung to money, to Carol Burnett. Show Notes! Here is a link to Kelly's website. Kelly Carlin And if you want to Unplug With Kelly go check her course. She will teach you how to use meditation and MINDFULNESS and easily fit it into your life. Kelly got her degree in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in Jungian Psychology in 2001 at Santa Barbara's Pacifica Graduate Institute She lost her mom a few years before the entered Pacifica Graduate Institute Kelly's dad was a bit uncomfortable with the autobiographical work and that created pause. Carl Jung You may be visiting the same part of the circle in your life but you are a little higher up so you have a little more consciousness Life Coaching Lisa is up for anything, but her follow through in life is sucky Kelly needed to get on stage These negotiation we make inside of ourselves with our parents is interesting. Kelly is writing her second book about daughter-hood. None of the stories we tell ourselves are true. You get to rewrite your story. This is where follow through comes in. What if there is no safety net? The safety net does you a disservice. Kelly's father's legacy is really important to her. She wanted to participate in the world as his daughter. She needed to walk the fire of being her father's daughter in public. Lisa hears' all the time, you're just like your Dad, but not quite… We've all felt like we're drowning, we've all been lost and confused, overwhelmed by tragedy. We need to tell our stories. Kelly needed to get over her stage fright. Carol Burnett Lucille Ball Lily Tomlin Spalding Gray Kelly needed to prove to herself she could do it A Carlin Home Companion Entertainers Who Died on Stage Rain Pryor Marianne Williamson Rick Shapiro Eddie Pepitone We live in a world that has no set path anymore unless you are in technology. I was the kid with the perpetually messy desk in school, it seemed to get messy within moment minutes of cleaning it. As an adult closets, car trunks, garages, silverware drawers. 116: What's Your Number? Feat Nova Noell
What is numerology? Is there a rhyme to its science. Shelly Winter's told me I should change my name to Ollie Orkin. Would my life be different? Would I have 4 kid,s a great career and George as my husband? Or would I be an accountant living in Pheonix? And honestly either is fine as long as I was happy? Would that have changed my happiness factor? What comes first the numbers or the life? 100: Moms are Allowed to be Funny Too! feat. Jennifer Vally
Lisa Orkin feat. Jennifer Vally I admit that this episode is ripe with name dropping, and might not be very deep. But it was good to talk to someone who I feel is a contemporary of mine as well as someone who was in the same shoes. Ye Olde News starring Robbie Rist as Benjamin Franklin We've known each other at least 20 years. We met at LA Cabaret. "We were both young mothers who wanted to be comedians." - Lisa "I had so much more energy when I had little kids to get me up on stage" - Lisa "If my butt can stick out farther than my belly, I'm good." - Lisa Trying to find contemporaries. Young brunette mothers. Not a lot of women in the comedy venues. We felt like we were pretty unusual. "Will you drive me to my gig? I'll let you be my opening act" - Jennifer on how she got her first paid comedy gig. "You get up when it's dark, don't you?" - Jennifer Thinking about doing Roast Battle at the Comedy Store Jennifer was in theatre when she was growing up, moved and did some summer theatre, then moved to LA and did sketches and got into comedy. "You couldn't get on stage unless you wrote something for yourself" - Jennifer on being a woman in sketch theatre. "I know what's funny now, it's a science" - Lisa "I'm not sure I know why people laugh, but I know what will make them laugh." - Lisa "I speak with my ex too. We have kids!" - Jennifer We got more done when we had little kids. FYI to the millenials, kids do not change your lifestyle. "I had a cleaner house and I got way more done" - Lisa Babs - Our dear Babs. A woman in her 40s when we were young comediennes. She had children and she was a comic and writer all along. Contemporaries: Maria Bamford , Zach Galifianakis, Chelsea Handler, Heather (Chelsea's writer) "I felt like I couldn't compete because I was a mom" - Lisa Don't sleep with comics. Even if you're the opposite sex, there's still the competitive vibe. Going pee outside, trying not to pee on my shoes. Tree People - bathrooms that are dark because of motion sensor lights. Being safe in a creepy neighborhood, keep a frying pan in your car. Can you bury your pets just anywhere? "Cremate me and sprinkle me at fryman or the shoe department..." - Lisa, after I die. "I will not shop in stores where I don't believe in their practices." - Jennifer not macy's too! And bed bath and beyond. "I wanted an instapot, but I guess I'll just get it off amazon" - Lisa "Amazon prime is like my boyfriend" - Lisa We went to the women's march! Marla Maples - more beautiful in person, still! Favorite signs at the women's march "Keep abortions safe and legal Trump / ABORT TRUMP" "Without immigrants, Trump would have no wives" Hollywood is such a small world, but not even within Hollywood. Weirdest connections. Pregnant by choice, photoshoot pregnant with an american flag. "The reluctant madonna" I want to do comedy again, but I don't want to jump through the hoops, I've already done that. Set List Auditioning for America's got talent, like they wanted her to have a gimmick. Wanted her to be a grandmother, feeling pigeon holed as a woman in a certain between age stage. VERBAL RORSCHACH! Taco - Tuesday Table - Top Love - Hate Beans - Cheese Sushi - Stinky Grass - Smoke Forest - Trees Horse - Hair Bucket - Pail Do you have a bucket list? No. How long is her bucket list? It makes it sounds like she's dying!...

096: Am I too Old to be a Digital Nomad? feat. Hannah Dixon
Hannah Dixon - Digital Nomad (Links coming soon!) She's currently in Hanoi, although based out of Bangkok. Sardinia, Sicily, Budapest... I want to live your life" - Lisa I think the pros outweigh the cons for sure." - Hannah The digital nomad community is incredible everywhere. They do meet ups for dinner and drinks and such. Hannah is a virtual assistant but is now training other virtual assistants. She's been a VA for three years, and on the road for the last 8 years. She worked at a husky dog center, a farm in Italy, mostly bars and farms. "I think we forget how privileged we are when we just want to "get out of here""- Hannah Why are you moving again? "I don't have a home"- Hannah Do you get sick? Yes I'm a bit more sensitive to that. What's the first thing you tell people who want to transition to this lifestyle? Take your laptop and work on the other side of town all day. If you can do that, then you kind of have an indication already if you can do this thing. Take smaller trips. Go to a different city in your country for a month. You have a lot of things you have to change all the time. You can't be sentimental about stuff anymore. Hannah is from London, UK, and she'll stop home about once a year in October for her parents and her birthday. What made you decide to do this? I guess I was travelling already, I knew this nomadic lifestyle was for me. I never even considered working online, I was a farm girl. Past partner taught her how. "I know it doesn't just happen-but it does!" - Lisa Working online, it's so important to have these communities online. (insert communities) "It's like another family, and I'm not even on the road" - Lisa What's the best place you've been to? Budapest! (she confirms the food is great!) Low cost of living, and being an introvert, the people aren't going to chat you up a lot. Outdoor baths and autonomy. Who do you follow? Who do you think is really cool that's doing what you're doing? Natty and Jodie - the house sitting academy The had a business in Dubai that went really wrong but they're kind of house sitting extraordinaire so they decided to teach people how! They teach you how to make sure that you're selected for sought after sits. An online community with referrals. They don't pay you and you don't pay them. "I usually save a bunch of money and plan a two week trip, but I think I want something else now" - Lisa It's actually very much up to you "You just need your first months rent and a plane ticket" - Hannah Flight stein - a subscription that finds you the best price flights Nomad Fly - flight hacking course saving $100s and $100s Having a boyfriend / dating. What if you have a partner that's in a stable job? Should you just date nomads? No real solution, but this lifestyle is becoming more normal, so we're still looking for solutions. Did it get more addicting as you did it? Yes, after becoming a digital nomad. You meet people who tell you about amazing places and you "Get a bit of jealousy, I want to go there!" - Hannah "There's a whole different life out there" - Lisa You're really chasing WiFi, right?" - Lisa Nomad list - a resource for checking places out, i.e. is it safe/female friendly/wifi/cost of living Are there people in their 40's and 50's? Oh yeah! Way older than that too! What if I'm seasick the whole time?" Lisa on sailing around the world on a boat. Co-boat - co working co living sailboat that goes around the world for digital nomads! One of the big issues with traveling a lot is Visas. Always having to do visa runs. Counting down the days having to rush places. "I have a year lease on my apartment but I can't be in the country...

Carrie Silver "health coach and functional nutritionist, working with women and balancing hormones" It's not just women of women of your age, it's women of all ages. During all ages of our lives we are going through fluctuations. Each woman is going through the same fluctuations as their best friend! "I'm we're all running together, then why doesn't the whole world get it's period?" In the first phase of the month we are feeling happy, and toward the period (end of the month) we have less energy. "we just can't throw as many parties!" - carrie on when we have less energy in our cycle. "I'm putting this in my body and I know my body's not going to be happy" - Lisa on eating traditional glutinous pancakes for her fasting glucose test. "Hormones are building blocks and we need nutrients to make them work properly." - Carrie "Change is scary for people, for everyone, for me!" - Carrie Carrie was always the healthy type, but always felt like crap. Had a lot of anxiety and depression and no libido. Extremely painful periods. Very active and realized when she was super low blood sugar that she needed to figure it out. She had an inkling and went to see a functional medicine doctor that told her about hormones. Up until then she thought something was wrong with her. "Let's fix you" This whole weight lifted, and it's not about what was wrong with her, but her body. "If your body's mechanisms aren't working right you're going to be depressed" -Lisa "Sometimes it gets hard to figure out what to eat." - Lisa We definitly have to cut out some things that are causing inflammation, and when we look at the connection between the brain and the body. "Sometimes its not what you have to cut out, but what you're putting in." - Carrie We are taught our whole life to go on this deprivation diet. Telling some women to take it out, that's going to cause even more stress. Stress is a huge factor that people don't even take in. - Carrie Carrie loves going to the women's health section in the bookstore, and she happened across the orgasmic diet. She had never liked chocolate, and this book encouraged her to incorporate more chocolate. "incorporating new foods is where to start"- Carrie" "We are not talking about a Hershey bar here" - Lisa "there are a lot of nutritious foods that are frickin' yummy" "I get aroused from sweet potatoes" - Carrie Sweet potato is good before your period, and its great for building seratonin, which helps with anxiety and mood. "We're living in such an awesome age" - Carrie "I use hemp milk, I just want the world to know" - Lisa I haven't had a period in four months, menopause is signaled by a year of no period. I feel like I'm in a constant state of PMS. Greens at every meal, what kinds of fats are you having? Can we talk about the gut? I love talking about the gut. "There are so many tests out there now to find out what's going on in the gut" - Carrie Healing food, restoring the intestinal lining. Leaky gut- when particles making it beyond the intestinal wall. Functional medicine doctors - they look at the root cause of the problem. Little bit of testing and natural medicine, blend of eastern and western medicine. Once you solve the root cause, then you're solving symptoms. Not feeling well happens over time and you don't realize you're not your best self. "One day you're like, This is my life and I don't feel very vibrant" - Lisa "I 100% believe everyone should the life they fricken want...

090: Why Surrendering isn't Giving Up with Ted Kruse
Previously a pastor. I met Ted at a Rob Bell lecture/seminar. Ted is painting houses now. Grew up in a legalist Christian background. Was a pastor for about 17 years, expresses it was both the best and worst of times. He didn't know how to navigate depression that he'd experienced his whole life. Lisa describes pea soup. Ted needed an escape from his life, became secretive about his sex addiction and finally confessed his actions. "A boulder on my chest that was going to kill me dead." His wife saw two choices before her, and decided to stay with him, the road that led to life, not to darkness and resentment. He was on skype with his counselor and said he wanted to leave his family. She responded, "are you a man who leaves?" - This question saved his life. "why am I?" There are moments in life where we don't know what's going to happen. Even in our darkness, there's little bits of light that shine through- Lisa "Life is a canvas that you just get to keep painting on" - Ted Sometimes we need a huge moment to wake us up, to break us open, to peel back the layers. "God I'm not done with you yet." The issue wasn't staying or going from the marriage. "Christianity has writer's block, they aren't good at embracing mystery." - Ted "I don't believe it's a man, it's all a big giant force that's in the room with me." - Lisa "I am a recovering know it all" - Ted "Embracing the mystery, God has become more big and beautiful" - Ted It's tough to put together the fragments of a 2,000 year old book. "Electricity, love, marriage, keeping the faith is mystery." - Ted "We are all in the mystery, we are all in the same boat" - Ted When God came in, and experience. "Sometimes I don't know if i should tell these stories, because I don't know what they will do to people" - Ted Escape became a very powerful thing, "Wow this is real dumb, I gotta give this up." We think it's love, but it's not love. "Hold on, I'm just a guy, there's no way I could make that feeling happen." Being overcome with feeling while driving. Was shown a vision of Aces, in a poker hand. "Something else was going on here. This was not coming from me, but from out there." Began rubbing his belly. "Hey do you have a stomach ache?" "No, I feel like I have a baby in my belly" And then we all began to pray. They thought I was going to be ill, they began yelling prayers at me, and then I was sick. At the end, I felt as though all of the evil had left me. Physical manifestation of feelings or lessons. "It's not I, but it's sin living in me" Paul, saying, I'm not a sinner, but it's in me. Sin: Being off the path It will manifest within us if we are not being our best selves. It leads to disease. If we are hiding, or lying to ourselves. "when you use a certain language over people it d Sometimes the truth is so scary. We are so scared we're going to die from that truth. "it becomes easier and easier to stick our head in the sand, but you can't breathe anymore" - Lisa Lisa "Prayer is just a pep talk to ourselves" and wrote it off. Then I dated a christian. He was super kind to the world, showed me how to be in service. I was drawn into this by the sex. I knew all of my friends would think I was weird. I've learned that when I do prayer, or meditation, or mantra, it helps my brain stay straight. "Having faith that the world is better than I imagine it to be." "My life is not about me." The line I read in a book that I never read the rest of - Ted "Prayer and worship for me is being grateful and thankful for a force outside myself" - Ted What worship is like, am I in the moment, or is the moment in me. "He's standing there and knows - The world is way bigger than me "I hate to

I feel like I've been in the woods since I was 2. - Lisa Earliest memories of learning and sharing information. "The universe kept putting people in front of me, after I'd learned something" - Amanda Is crying on the floor at night normal? Always during menopause. "I don't believe in coincidences" - Amanda "I was an avid student, I was like a puppy." - Amanda on e mail coaching. "He told me I had 99% crap in my head and I was like, WAHOO! I have 1% still good!" - Amanda He must see something in me, that I don't see at the moment. So I'm going to believe in his belief until I believe in myself." - Amanda ALL THE FREAKING TIME: Being called out, to an opportunity, and not taking it, because it doesn't show up how we've imagined it. It is a muscle, "To be clear enough to see what's in front of you" - Lisa --"and know that you're already worthy of the thing you've asked for" - Amanda I get 20% done and then I get distracted. Amanda relates, and has trained herself. She needed a team to take her ideas and keep them focused through launch. "I need people that are much more structured and detailed than I am- and I tell them to hassle me because I know that's what I need." -Amanda My daughter is my only assistant that can get me to focus. "I always feel very stuck, and I have no idea what I'm really supposed to be doing" - Lisa "There's a part of me that thinks my endeavors are unrealistic notions" - Lisa "Maybe I'm not funny enough" - Lisa, for the first time ever "Your brain is trying to devalue what you actually have accomplished. What I would tell it is to go Fuck Off and sit in the corner" - Amanda "I tell my mantras to go fuck off like they're bullshitting me" - Lisa Running theme: It's silly to be silly. (WHO MAKES A LIVING BEING SILLY?!) THOUSANDS of funny people, making THOUSANDS OF MILLIONS of dollars because people are dying to laugh. The only thing holding you back, is the story of "Who am I?" Who are you not to be that person, why not you? "Who am I, not to have that, why aren't I allowing myself to have that?" - Lisa If you fully stepped out on the stage to be silly, what would that mean for you? Lisa: People wouldn't take me seriously...... EXACTLY Jim Carey and Robin Williams do both! I'm afraid I won't be taken seriously, but I'm already not empowering myself to do it. I renounced my self help books. My friends were so disappointed. The self help was the next crutch to keep you from being your best self. The tool or the crutch. Let the products come from going out on stage and doing your thing. Teaching through comedy and humor. "Most people need to learn to laugh at themselves" -Amanda "I am missing something" - I am in the same money place I always am - Lisa "WHY ARE YOU NOT GETTING THIS?" That is your brain trying to get you into judgement mode to get you into the downward spiral The more you step into your power, the brain starts screaming these obscenities at you. As soon as you acknowledge that thought pattern is happening then you can say, really Lisa, how has all this personal development enhanced my life" - Amanda The self help lets me see more beauty, be more compassionate - Lisa "Can you see a connection to opportunities because you were in a better mindset? More attractive opportunities?" - Amanda "The jobs come in and then they dry up and I'm in a bad mood and bad space. I get to be funny, I get to have my own show basically, but it's my dad's. I don't feel like it's mine. -...

086: Lisa Meets the Drunk Mom feat. Amy Wright
Your life is completely different. Even than that person you thought was you. Amy Wright and The Drunk Mom She took a bunch of business courses, and nothing ever happened for her. She kept at it because she thought she was supposed to. "Hustle More!" She ran herself into the ground for 7 years trying to make it work. She is raising a teenager, and trying to be a perfect parent. Why isn't anything working out? She snapped 5-6 months ago, wasn't enjoying what she'd done in her life lost her mind. "You know what would be really cool? Cause I'm a genius!" - Amy She told her husband she wanted to make videos about all the things moms do but don't want to talk about. He was worried for the kids sake, but then she just went ahead and made the videos. She didn't tell her husband for months. "I don't want to die with any regrets" - Amy The videos were extremely well received, and she said her first step was to make a facebook page with videos she thought were totally hilarious. She hit 5000 likes within a few weeks, and her previous business page was torture. People loved this. She gets emails from people who were having a hard time with their kids and lives. The way I went viral, Share Ross, told her facebook live would grow her page fast. No regrets, let's do this! She locked herself in her bathroom, sitting on the toilet talking about real life. "The time I shit my pants and the story of imperfection." We are cautious about what we put online, sometimes its really scary. Did I just put very real stuff out there? 26000 followers in three months. It's crazy. People love that its real life, and it makes them feel normal. She shared how nasty her car was after driving the kids around for a few days. My husband had a barbie shoe stuck to his butt. The one that went viral: shit my pants drunk dancing gas station blocking diagram Not doing anything but creating, not marketing anymore. Amy had a baby when she was young. Invited on a talk show, not really what she wanted to be doing, but it was a step in the right direction. Now she just looks like s sad drunk mom on this show they ask her. People fall down, it's so much more entertaining. Where did we get the idea that we shouldn't show our imperfections? - Lisa "That shit has been communicated so long" Amy on expectations of moms to hide their imperfections. "We feel like it's our fault if everything's not perfect." - Amy "We live in this hidden society" - Lisa My boyfriend covering up his farts with the coffee grinder. "when you're not your true self, you just get depressed" - Lisa "I'm not a huge fan of rejection." - Amy How did your husband not find out? He's fairly busy and they have 5 collective kids. Once things got going, and she got comfortable stepping into the role of playing honestly. "I have this gut feeling, you can call it appalling or whatever, but I can't settle for a 9 to 5 job. I can't ignore the fact that I'm somewhat entertaining. I can't continue to push that down and ignore it, and not share my god given gift with the world." Raised by hippies. Bong on the coffee table, mirror and straw and razor. Successful parents, but very loving and accepting of people. It was just normal life for me. Trying to communicate two different worlds into one. "I've never been able to work for somebody" - Lisa on never being able to keep a job. There's more than going somewhere you hate every day. She doesn't know if it will ever make sense to her husband. Unless its raking in the dough. Just making something and putting it out there has just turned into something amazing! "If you're not doing...

084: Things our Kids Say feat. My daughter Becca Cuellar
I never expected to have a child. Never. But then I decided maybe I wanted to. My spiritual, jewelry designing daughter, Becca Cuellar. Can't remember when we met, how rude. Doesn't know how long we've known each other. But I remember her in my uterus! I made her! She and I are very close, it's just the two of us. We weren't a religious family, but enjoyed the traditions. Loved participating with Bubbie (My mom) and loved being fed ice cream at nine months. "Do you think you picked me out before you came?" - Lisa oh totally! "Was it embarrassing that I was a comic?" - Lisa "I love being able to say I slept in a lot of backs of theatres when I was a kid"- Becca I'm afraid she inherited my "artistic, sort-of let's make things all the time," and it's hard to make a living when you're making art all the time. Becca dislikes that she spends money like I do. "Neither of us know how to use what we do to make money" - Becca Why does shopping make us feel better? "How we picked out all this stuff, nobody knows" - Becca "We are insane at manifesting clothing, but not the money to buy the clothing" - Lisa Selling your clothes at wasteland, and crossroads, and how it feels like selling your soul. The Thrift Mission - They have a Becca collection! Email to find out how to donate to them. "If us buying clothing, in turn made someone else happy, then I am so okay with that" - Becca "My friends line up at my back door to go through my clothes before I give them away" - Lisa My friends get so much joy out of my old clothing. We are extremely gifted at manifesting clothing, we help others find things! The moral of the story: JUST TRY IT ON. We are so open to all the different opportunities and options, and we know that we would love to be surprised by joy. This is manifestation, just give it a try! Did my daughter suck me into the yoga and spiritual life? And I mean, really sucked in because we are both obsessed. But we have such a close relationship, and we do fight, it happens. But we've traveled all over the country, and been to Paris together. (with all kinds of gauntlets. Sick for days, bank blocking our funds...) How does she feel about me dating? She wants me to be happy. "I really hope she finds someone before I get married, or this will be depressing" - Becca Don't hide your emotions and problems from your children. I passed on my sensitivity to my daughter. You're not over-sensitive! We just have a better alarm system. Does it scare you that I might live with you in her old age? Tantric Numerology My daughter is a full on believer in all this spiritual stuff. I am way more skeptical. She feels as though she was born with belief in spirituality. Kundalini Yoga The ten bodies "Will you do all 40 days of the meditaion?"- Lisa I would want to do it, I would plan on it, do five days and take two off and then kick myself for not making it. Becca moved home after college for six months and I got her the most uncomfortable (BUT SO STYLISH) monk bed. I didn't want to make her too comfortable for fear of becoming Grey Gardens. <a href=...

082: Takes a Village to Raise a Grown Up feat. Sanyika Street
Your Fans are Waiting - and a spoken word piece at the end--- WHOA! How would you describe yourself? Motivational person who teaches people how to be their best self and love their best self- and their worst self Let's take all this and make something out of it. The best way to describe what i do, is the combination of real tactics and strategies to change your live, to develop your business- primarily through art. Tony Robbins is a huge inspiration. Identify who you are at the most raw, most honest, and put those pieces together as a mold and create the individual you see. at 6'8" can seem very intimidating, but he is a sweet heart. The physical represetation of who he is, and the quest to find more transparency in his life. Grew up in DC in "you've got drive throughs, we've got drive bys" "I saw more of the artist in you" as he has gotten to know Lisa. Sanyika hanging out with a friend in a barber shop with his friend who liked to record his thoughts, and the recorder falls out of his pocket and all the guys think they're cops! There is this weird idea that we have to torture ourselves to create. You can still be an artist and be creative. "You don't have to be bound by the same chains of artistry and struggle. Those two things are mutually exclusive. You can still flourish and prosper." - Sanyika [Tweet theme="basic-white"]"The demonization of money is the first way that artists have been held down." @sanyikastreet #honestlylisa[/Tweet] [Tweet theme="tweet-box-normal-blue"]"If you've played it small long enough, when it looks like things are getting bigger, it gets scary." #honestlylisa[/Tweet] Fear of bouncing off negative attention, fear of not being able to handle the money (Are you listening universe? I can handle it!) Bouncing back and forth between high and low points. "At that low point, eitherI can choose to rise into the person I always imagine myself being, or i can just stay there and hide." "Rising is scary" - Lisa "Hiding is not a life satisfied" - Lisa Listening to the heart lately, trusting things will be fine as they grow. Everyone wanted Sanyika to fit into the mold, help them move. "I am the pick up truck" because he's big and strong. But he organizes the truck--- not even do the heavy lifting! Metaphor for what he does now! Wow! [Tweet theme="tweet-box-normal-blue"]"The way you organize and empower people to do good is by asking the powerful questions" @SanyikaStreet #honestlylisa[/Tweet] It feels like an impossible task to be honest with yourself. "It's so easy to lie when you're 6'8" and 300lbs. Everyone thinks you're a celebrity."-Sanyika "I never want to walk the red carpet because I feel so invisible." - Lisa Sanyika realized that red carpets are for selling yourself or something, so he rarely walks one. "If you are caught up in a world where you are not being honest with yourself, then no one can help you- no one knows what your challenges are." - Sanyika This process of revelation, vulnerability began with a video blog to tell his story. Lisa finds it easier to tell the truth on stage than real life. How do you find that? Meditation? Therapy? "We aren't really learning anything new about ourselves, it's more about a revelation process." - Sanyika If you keep hiding, you're going to betray the people who instilled the confidence in you, and the people you could be helping. - Lisa/Sanyika Fans - Real people, maybe even your family and friends for you to be inspirational for. Not even Beyonce status. How do you not shit all over who you were, not that you're feeling better. "The greatest gift in that struggle is humility" - Sanyika The...

080: If You're not Living, You're Dying: Weird Girls, Funny Women feat. Shannon Bobo
Shannon Bobo I really just think if I have her close to me for 50 minutes, then I can grab some of that youthful exuberance, that vivaciousness, that positive feeling that it will stick to me like glue.. "I just have this zest for life, I guess. It's not always easy, I can tell you that. It's a choice. A moment by moment choice" - Shannon "Unless you're about to fly me somewhere or pay me something, you don't need to know how old I am" - Shannon Did stand up for youth christian highschool kids, no wonder she felt she didn't do so well. Why we don't really care if our family and friends come out to see our stand up. Shannon is live streaming comedy for sonicbox up to seven hours, daily. Not porn-actually! People listen all day at work, and she's actually developing a fan base. This video "The Struggle is Real" about online dating! "I don't believe in god outside of us" - Shannon on asking for energetic help when she needs it. She grew up in a non-denominational christian church with gospel and shaming, "Beat you up type church." It felt so wrong to her that the pastor was driving a Cadillac from multiple passings of the collection plat--and the toilets in the church didn't flush. "In order to not feel bad about all the wrongs all the time, we have to make fun of it to ourselves"-Lisa Shannon was way more interested in having intelligent conversations with the grown ups and they were always telling her to get out and play. She came to LA to be an actor, but didn't believe it could be a practical career for her, so she worked in casting. "I will make the rules in life as long as it's kindness" - Lisa "I'm learning about myself, by who I want to be around" - Shannnon "What is it about me, that I see in him?" - Shannon It's not necessary to be the broke actor, casting is such a weird crap shoot, you can't get caught up in it because it's a numbers lottery. "If the job is yours, it was always yours. If you didn't book it, it was never yours." - Shannon "I never let one thing be my source." Shannon on moving on when her jobs weren't working out. Shannon grew up half in Evanston, IL "Moral-Obama-Black sort of thing, street but sweet" - Shannon "I think all my high school friends who thought I was weird think I'm cool now"- Lisa + Shannon She followed her boyfriend to college in Madison, and he broke up with her right before school started! Last boyfriend was a minister of new thought, old wisdom and was super manipulative. After they were together for 3-4 years, he turned around and said something completely different. Manifesting manipulation: Trump seems pretty happy with all his money, even though he does horrible things. Online dating doesn't work for us. "They are always much shorter than they say" but it's okay because her friends fix her up all the time. The Four Man Plan by Cindy Lewis - That book did not work for Shannon. It was way too much work, even though getting the date wasn't the hard part. "He tried to kiss me and I wanted to throw up" - Shannon on dating against your type and forcing it. "So do you think he was farting out of anger?" - Lisa "You don't want me, and I'm good with that- I want everyone in the whole world to like me, and that is bad." - Lisa "I don't feel bad at all, cause I dodged the bullet" - Shannon on guys being mean after she turns them down. "If someone doesn't like you, it has everything to do with them, nothing to do with you" - Shannon Dinner with: Beyonce "Even Beyonce...

078: Happy, Happy, Happy! feat. Kat Frati
I always thought it was wrong to admit you were happy. So, I've always been very careful keep my happiness to myself and quickly give myself a shitty thought to take it down a notch. Wait for the other shoe to drop, cause it will. Kat Frati admits she's happy and teaches how to be happy. So, f*** it I will admit to the days that I feel happy. I will call out those moments! I am happy right now! Okay, I'm just going to go a little at a time that felt really false and weird. Show notes Kat Frati is a happiness coach, and incredibly successful entrepreneur. How do you become a happiness coach? "It's a full time job being me." -Kat Frati Just go for it, be happy, the sky is the limit. Let things go, put good things into your body that will slow down the aging process. Forgiveness is key, mind, body, spirit is a balance. You must work everyday to clear out the bad. Who were some of the people that you follow? Are there books you read? Do you follow some meditations? Kat had a turning point when she got divorced, and began exploring spiritual leaders. Oprah Winfrey´s Soul Series with Eckhart Tolle Part 1 We have to learn to remove our own roadblocks. You don't really understand what it is until you start loving yourself. Kat made a point to buy herself flowers every week. Began to take herself to the movies, going and taking the time to go downtown and explore the city and going on mini vacations by herself. Her advice? Avoid mirrors, work within. Katherine Hepburn, had wrinkles but she was still beautiful. Own the wrinkles, envelope them into your beauty. "I have never had a lightbulb moment, I have never gone oh my gosh everything looks different. And I don't want to have to take mushrooms to get there." -Lisa Orkin #honestlylisa Do you meditate everyday? Meditation can come in many forms, it can be as simple as grabbing a cup of coffee, sitting on your deck, and checking in with yourself. If you could go to dinner with anybody in the whole world who would that be? Doreen Virtue How do you see yourself leaving this realm? 070: I Married My High-School Sweetheart feat. Lee Cuellar
070: I Married My High-School Sweetheart feat. Lee Cuellar "time made me stronger, you're no longer on my mind" ― Boyz II Men I interviewed my ex-husband… wanted dig into his head to see if there were clues to my quest to find me. And find his take on our marriage. I think I was not as kind to him and was really about getting as opposed to giving. It could have been youth but really I had a lot of growing up to do. We were married 18 years. Dated for 2 officially and were together for 4 years. Separated twice and divorced once. And finally ended in 2000. And we still talk. Met at Kaleidoscope Disco, I asked him to dance. He said no. I am such a dork I thought his name was Woody for weeks. A relationship built on bickering and great sex. I should send a bill for house training him. Lee moved back to Jersey when we were 16. When we dropped him off at the airport this Alice Cooper song came on and we both got teary eyed. The Alice Cooper song I referenced in the show was You and Me, but the song that actually played I think was How You Gonna See Me Now? Visited him in New York and we got into Studio 54! First place we lived was a crime scene apartment in Germany. There were numbers on the couch from the crime scene. Creepy. Lee was watching the Olympics, I decided to put on something sexy. He couldn't stop laughing for a solid 10 minutes. Never again. We decided to have a baby, went to Greece and drank Ouzo and she was conceived. Perpetual chainsmokers that we were, we managed to both quit smoking when the rabbit died. "Wait until she's a teenager, then she'll really start shitting on you." -Grandma Bunny #honestlylisa Got a puppy right before having a baby, not the brightest idea to have a puppy and a baby at the same time. I was probably fired 10 times in the first 10 years of our marriage, but I insisted on private school for our daughter. I don't know how we managed to keep our marriage together, I was a terrible housekeeper, couldn't keep a job, and never wanted to have sex. "Wow, was I mesmerized by her pussy!" -Lisa Orkin #honestlylisa Our dog Sidney ran away, and she was gone for like 3 months. Then I found her at the pound by accident one day. I lost my mind, Sidney lost her mind! When I met Lee's new wife at our daughter's graduation, I had just gone spelunking and my legs were covered in bruises and scrapes. There she was, looking perfectly put together and there I was in a sundress and cowboy boots and bloody legs. Lee set me on the path to be a comedian, about 5 years into our marriage he turned to me and said "Wow, you're really funny!". We separated once and got back together. The second time we separated it was hellacious. It ended really hideously, but it needed to so we could both grow. "You can't put the shit back in the donkey." -Lee Cuellar #honestlylisa Did a musical together while living in Germany - The Boyfriend "Live your life, and be happy." -Lee Cuellar's advice to his daughter #honestlylisa Questions for Lee: If you could have dinner with anyone dead or alive, who...

066: He Ain't Heavy He's My Brother! feat Haris and Mike Orkin
I talked to my brothers this week! Who knows me better? Really! They were forthright with opinions and I am not sure they know me that well. Or do they? They are funny and charming and full of thoughts about my life and why I am who I am. Haris is the oldest and yes he spells it with one R. My parents did not know it was spelled with two, Mike is between us both… I am not the baby though, there is one more of us. We played houdini growing up and they tortured me and teased me! And they love me very much. I love them! I think there is great insight in this podcast no matter who your siblings are… at some point my brothers forget we are recording and you get to peer in like a fly on the wall. They would always help me out of a pickle! "Success and failure are brothers, they become who they are because they never believed in each other." 060: Can Hypnotherapy Save Lisa from Her Procrastination Problem? feat. Carmen Isais
WARNING: Lisa gets hypnotized "My evil genius Procrastination has whispered me to tarry 'til a more convenient season." Mary Todd Lincoln #honestlylisa Carmen Isais took me on the Journey, Carmen is a Professional Life Coach, Facilitator & Trainer specializing in Integrative Coaching & Coaching Mentorship. There is more info about Carmen below. So here's the deal, I didn't bawk like a chicken or moo like a cow! That would have been easier and less revealing. Also, when I listened back, I noticed my voice actually shifted while I was hypnotized. I was very unsure whether I wanted to release this episode because it's makes me feel so vulnerable, but here it is. Sorry dad. It felt more like a super relaxed trance state where new pathways revealed a part of my brain that I had closed off, taped off with duct tape, to stories from my past that I have held onto my whole life. Stories I twisted with age into the unconscious reasons to why I hold myself back in life by procrastinating....PLAYING IT SMALL. PLAYING IT SMALL! Stories I hold on to, like old sexy underwear at the bottom of my underwear drawer that I have not seen in 20 years and will never ever wear, but I let just hang out and take space. That was a shitty analogy! Like a takeout menu you still have even though the restaurant has closed 20 years ago that you find in a junk drawer and shove back into the junk drawer knowing damn well it's of no use. Fuck it! I have no analogies… just listen. It's not writer's block! It's procrastination! Hi. my name is Lisa and I am a lifelong PROCRASTINATOR. Check out Carmen's Website here! Join Carmen's 30 Day Gratitude Practice here For today's listeners Carmen has shared a free self hypnosis audio walk through, listen here! 056: Love Your Bad Thoughts, Like a Piece of Chocolate feat. Melody Park Shin
Show Notes: Melody is a soul awakening alchemist, reality up-grader, and mermaid. Please go check out Melody Park Shin's Facebook group here! Melody and I discussed this Hawaiian prayer, so here it is as promised! Ho'O'pono'pono is an ancient Hawaiian prayer of forgiveness, love, and healing. There are four phrases that are used as a prayer or declaration. You must first quiet your mind and focus on yourself and being present in your heart. The Ho'O'pono'pono phrases are used to assist in self-cleansing. The first phrase is "I am sorry", you apologize for whatever you may have knowingly or unknowingly contributed to this situation. "Please forgive me", you acknowledge that on some level you have contributed to the situation simply because it exists in your frame of reality. You are taking responsibility for the situation. "Thank you", you are expressing gratitude and offering thanks to your true self. "I love you", you are offering these words to your true self as well as the true nature/self of the other person or the situation. These phrases are meant to acknowledge, forgive, and offer love to a situation or person that is concerning you. "For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction."
