The things of this world that we look to for comfort—whether they be sports teams, relationships, TV shows, or material items—will always let us down. Listen in on Live in the Light and look to the God of comfort in 2 Corinthians 1.

As we’ve seen throughout the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus is King. And because He’s the King—He has a program, the Law of the kingdom that He has the power to fulfill. In our study of Matthew 8, He demonstrates that power in supernaturally healing people’s bodies and souls.

You can measure a quality carpenter by his work. You can discern a skilled administrator by her organization. The product of what they do speaks of who they are. So too, with false teachers. Dr. John instructs us to consider the impact and effect of false teachers. They promise much but leave desctruction and emptiness in their wake. What they produce speaks of who they are. Danger From Within: Jesus spoke of wolves in sheep's clothing. Paul warned of wolves among the flock. Peter alerts the Church of false teachers. It was a danger for the early church. It remains a challenge for today's Church. Listen as Dr. John unfolds 2 Peter for our caution and protection.

Today on Live in the Light, pastor Robbie kicks off a new series, working verse by verse through the book of 2 Corinthians. We start with the first 7 verses that remind us that we serve a God of comfort! When we cling to worldly comfort, it restricts us from experiencing the perfect comfort that only the Lord can provide. This does not mean that this life will be free from pain and trials, but in the midst of suffering, the Lord comforts us. It is this suffering that produces endurance in us—and this endurance produces blessings for those around us.

In a recent radio broadcast, Reverend Kaiser interviews David, the special event coordinator at Haven of Rest Ministries, about the launch of an exciting new children's program called Camp CORE. Developed over the past year in partnership with Lisa Marshall, the outreach director at The Chapel in Akron, the Christian-based camp is designed for children in first through sixth grades and runs Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to noon. The program features high-energy music, art activities, Bible studies, and hands-on learning, culminating in a special Friday celebration featuring outdoor tents, Chick-fil-A, ice cream, and gift bags containing t-shirts, sports equipment, children's Bibles, and toys.

A day will come when the grief will end, the groans will be silenced. Jesus will return and the dead in Christ will arise with bodies glorified.

Jesus calls us to live by the Golden Rule from Matthew 7, treating others with love and respect. Christians have died with Christ and been raised with Him—and that means a clean break with our old life. Our constant challenge is to live that reality, putting to death the old patterns of life and setting our sights on things above.

Pastor Robbie is in Matthew 7, where Jesus cautions that self-examination and humility should precede judging others. Only after examining our own hearts can we help others with theirs in a constructive and loving way. Instead of being quick to criticize, we are called to show compassion and grace, knowing that we, too, are in need of mercy for the sin in our lives. Another heart check today on Live in the Light.
