Jake helps us examine the Beatitudes found in Matthew 5:8-9 “Blessed are the pure in heart” and “Blessed are the peacemakers.” We think through what these values would have meant to Jesus’ original audience and how they can encourage and challenge us in our context today.

Jake leads us through a discussion of our next Beatitudes: “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied” and “Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.”

Madison leads us through the story of Jesus’ resurrection from John 20, focusing on Mary Magdalene’s perspective and the “Gardener God” who conquered the grave!

Jake teaches as we continue our study of the Beatitudes together, with “Blessed are those who mourn.”

Jake introduces our passage of Scripture for the year, “The Beatitudes” before diving into the first line “Blessed are the Poor in Spirit.”

Jake teaches through the Christmas story, as we reflect on the pain, grief and loneliness of the 1st Christmas, as well as the beauty and holiness of the Advent season.

As Kainos concludes a 3+ year journey reading from Genesis 1 to Revelation 22, Madison leads us through the Biblical theme of God bringing order to the chaos of the world.

Kainos is celebrating our 3rd anniversary as a church community, so we took some time to reflect on the past years and look ahead at the year to come! Then, as we conclude a 3 year journey through the whole Bible, we begin a conversation about the final book, Revelation, learning about its genre and the different ways Christians have viewed it throughout history.

Jake unpacks the book of James - who wrote it, how and why they may have written it and what it can mean for us today - and is joined by special guest Luke Gomes! Luke is a senior at King's Way High School who loves Jesus, soccer and serving others and helps us think through what it means to "wait" on God through trials and questions in our lives.

Guest speaker Lauren Wilson, founder of Speak Out PDX, is committed to breaking the stigma of mental health in the local church. Lauren shares her story, and unpacks how God can meet us in the midst of whatever season we find ourselves in with our mental health - and how we can walk alongside others in their journey as well - living as the type of community Jesus embodied and displayed for us.

Justin leads us through a discussion on Hebrews 11 and what the Bible actually means when it uses the word “faith.”

Jake introduces the book of Hebrews and helps us unpack the context it comes from, what it meant to its original audience, and what we can learn from it in present day.

Madison leads us through the book of Ephesians, helping us understand the original context it was written in, unpacking major themes we’ll explore this month and navigating some of the tricky verses, to see what we can apply to our own lives today.

Justin leads us through Philippians 1-2 as we begin a series going through the New Testament letters!

For Easter 2024, Jake leads us through a time in John 20, focusing on Jesus’ resurrection and his conversation with “Doubting Thomas.” We discuss the tension of doubt and faith and what it looks like to follow Jesus and rejoice in the life that He gives us.

As the book of Acts pivots from Peter to Paul, Jake teaches on why Luke may have done this internationally, how Paul (and all of us) grow to be more like Jesus, and what it means for our hearts to be broken for our neighbors.

Special Guest teacher Kim Harris, a pastor in Portland for more than 16 years and a mentor for Kainos' pastoral team, shares how the story of Peter and Cornelius in Acts 10 displays the truth that God is constantly converting us and welcoming all kinds of people in to His family.

Join us for our 2023 Advent Gathering teaching on "The First Christmas Song" recorded in Luke 1:46-55. We'll discuss all the components that go into understanding music, and apply it to Mary's Song, the Christmas story, and what it all means for our own lives.

We’re continuing through the book of Acts, focusing on the story of the early church’s persecution in chapters 4-7. Justin leads us through a teaching on the stories of these early Jesus followers and what we can learn from them for our lives today.

We begin a journey through the whole book of Acts, beginning with the story of The Ascension. Jake leads us though a study of Acts 1:1-11, we hear testimonies of how God has been showing up in our spaces and then Madison shares some exciting announcements as we enter Year 3 as a church community!

A friend and mentor to Kainos, Sean Thome, leads us through a teaching on our 3rd spiritual discipline of the summer: Biblical Community!

Justin and Jake have a conversation about generosity - what it is, how it involves our financial resources but goes so far beyond them - and how, as followers of Jesus, generosity flows out of the grace we’ve been given.

Malik reads from Acts 2:42-47, and then Jake leads us through our first spiritual discipline we’ll be focusing on this summer: consuming Scripture!

Justin teaches on the power of Jesus’ resurrection and we hear from Nate and Katie’s stories about what Easter means in their lives, and what it can mean in ours!

Jake leads us through a teaching on John 14:6-7. We examine Jesus’ famous words “I am the way, the truth and the life” and how it points to the good news that God wants to know us personally.

In this passage of Scripture we examine another common tool Jesus uses to describe himself: a door or a gate. And through this door we find an invitation - away from a life defined by thieves and robbers who steal from us - and into life with a Shepherd who cares for us.

This Christmas we explore Jesus’ words “I am the light of the world,” and what Jesus meant when he then said “You are the light of the world.” We then hear from our friend, David, who shares his story about the light of the gospel.

Justin leads us through the first of seven “I Am” statements from Jesus in the book of John, beginning with “I am the Bread of Life” (John 6:35).

For our 1st “birthday” as a church community we took time to celebrate what God has done in Year 1 and talk about what’s next for Year 2!

Justin leads us through a conversation about prophecy in the Bible - something that can seem confusing and chaotic - but has rich wisdom to guide us as we think about the past, present and future.

Madison leads us through the journey of “Lady Wisdom” in the Bible. Diving into Proverbs 8 and then examining Lady Wisdom through the Old and New Testament, we see what an important character wisdom is in the Scriptures and in our lives today.

Jake & Parker lead us through a discussion on the most quoted passage of the Bible within the Bible: Exodus 34:4-8. In the passage we dive into God’s name - Yahweh - and his character, while talking about what this means for our lives today.

Justin teaches on the Tabernacle and how it was designed to be a walking, talking Eden for the good of humanity and God’s glory.

Madison, Bekah & Abi lead us through an introduction to the book of Exodus - and the tension of light and darkness, lament and confession, brokenness and restoration.

This year, Kainos is going through the story of the Scriptures together as a church community! Starting in the first book, Genesis, we look at how God ruled and rested and how he taught us to do the same, focusing on a beautiful invitation: Sabbath.

Justin shares with us the meaning behind “altars” in the Bible and the importance this picture can have for us as we begin a new year.

This teaching is from our first Collective together in October 2021! We learn the meaning of Kainos and discuss what it means to find new, fresh life in Jesus from 2 Corinthians 5:16-21.
