We pick up as Joseph is sold to Potiphar, an officer of Pharoah. While overseeing Potiphar’s house, Potiphar’s wife tries to seduce him. Although Joseph refuses, the woman covers up her own sin by framing Joseph. As our study closes, Joseph is thrown in jail.

Today on the program, we return to one of the most hope-filled verses in the book of James, which says that God “gives a greater grace.” This verse is a reminder that while God demands wholehearted allegiance, He also provides the mercy and strength we desperately need to obey Him.

There is an ancient Japanese pottery technique called kintsugi, where a potter will take a chipped or shattered piece of ceramic and repair it using precious metals instead of simple lacquer. The repaired piece doesn’t hide its imperfections; instead, they are highlighted in gold, silver, and platinum. In today’s message, Pastor Jeff encourages you by reminding you that God has a plan for you, even when you’re stuck in a dark valley. Hope in the Night - Salvation

We often go about our lives making choices, big or small, without ever consulting God. Instead of asking Him to bless our choices after the fact, we should seek His wisdom and His plans for us, letting Him lead our decisions in all that we do.

In every age, there will be those who insist that traditions, rules, and regulations are the key to pleasing God, but this is actually the heart of all worldly forms of religion. Paul sets out to remind us again that these things do not offer spiritual life—but that life is found only in Christ. Life is found not through rite and ritual, but through holding fast to Christ by faith.

Tom explains that while our sin and pride are deep, God’s restoring grace is deeper still, provided we abandon our self-reliance and meet Him on the terms of biblical humility.

Sermon OverviewScripture Passage: Hebrews 10:38The Book of Hebrews describes the heroes of our faith and explains how those heroes exemplified the only way to live.Hebrews 10:38 says, “Now the just shall live by faith; but if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him.”Many of us are plagued with worry, guilt, or loneliness; but there is not one problem that faith does not have an answer for. This is why it is crucial that we know what faith is, and how to have it.Faith is not blind superstition, positive thinking, or a feeling of optimism. Rather, it is confidence that rests in hope, conviction that sees the invisible, and communication that comes from Heaven.Hebrews 11:1-2 says, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good testimony.”Faith can’t be altered by appearances or fettered by feelings. Our emotions are the shallowest part of our nature, while faith is the deepest work of God. And in a world that must see to believe, the Bible instructs us to believe in order to see. Faith is not limited by logic; it simply goes beyond it and becomes its own best logic.We must also understand the dynamics of our faith. Adrian Rogers explains, “Faith is the heart’s response to the character of God.” Only after we accept God through faith will we receive the wisdom to understand His works and the ability to worship. Faith—not fame or fortune—is the medium of exchange in the kingdom of God.Finally, a life of faith is destined to find, follow, and finish the will of God.Hebrews 12:1-2 says, “Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith…”To win this race, we must be motivated by the saints of old and separated from the weight of the world. Repenting of our sins, we run the race of life with our eyes set on the Savior above.Apply it to your lifeIs your faith real, growing, and developing through wisdom and worship? Are you actively finding, following, and finishing the will of God?

A valuable lesson for us to learn is that our actions have consequences. When you throw a baseball at a window and break it, you are responsible for replacing it. When you get distracted while driving and rear-end another vehicle, your insurance will find you liable for the accident. Pastor Jeff wants us to realize today that our actions have eternal consequences. Whether or not we accept Jesus’ salvation can mean eternity in God’s rest, or eternal separation from His presence. 

Many Christians assume that heaven will be exactly the same for every believer. But the Bible describes a time of judgment during which every Christian will be evaluated—and hopefully rewarded—for his or her good works on earth. Hope in the Night-Trials

Too many Christians live off of the frozen fruit in their lives, acting like religious believers but not having God’s work actively present in changing them from the inside out. When we stay connected to Him, as a branch is connected to the vine, He does all the work in our lives that continues to produce fresh spiritual fruit.

No love is more important to us than the love of God himself. Beyond the love of spouse or parent or friend is the significance of the love of God. Nothing matters more to us than to know that the God of heaven loves us—and that in his character, he is indeed a God of love.
