Unfortunately, as sinners, we constantly do it because the appeal of this dark world is very strong. As a result, our souls suffer and become ugly, intemperate, weak, blind, and corrupted. And if we allow persistent resistance to God through our faithless lives, due to our attachments to a secular and atheist world, returning in heart and spirit to an old, sinful life, our souls can even freeze - just as Lot’s wife froze when she turned her head to see Sodom again – and the worst that can happen afterwards will happen, being our souls finally broken and absorbed by this world. Another relentless disobedient soul will stand motionless and frozen, turned into a pillar of salt and outcast by God when the world passes away. For Jesus' followers, the pillar of salt is a symbol and a lasting memorial, but if they are not faithful and become careless, it could be a destination during God’s final judgment and could not be included in the book of life.
