"Is there a part in there for me?" | Pauly Shore is Dead
This week on the podcast we are closing out the season with the ultimate self-aware, early-2000s fever dream that is Pauly Shore Is Dead. That's right it's officially our season finale and we figured what better way to close it out than with the last of the Pauly Shore Cinematic Universe (or the PSCU for those that know). Directed, written by, and starring Pauly Shore himself, this mockumentary is packed with an absurd amount of celebrity cameos. We may have taken the ultimate pass this week, but we've got a lot going on and it's the end of the season, so we thought we could get away with it. Not saying we didn't drink, we had ourselves a few stiff drinks before we got started, I mean we are your favorite drunken duo after all. So get your own favorite drink and join us for this hysterical underrated good time.Don't worry, no Pauly Shore's were harmed in the making of this episode.Instagram - @kentuckyfriedcriticsFacebook - www.facebook.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsYouTube - www.youtube.com/@kfcriticsE-mail - [email protected] - patreon.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsKo-Fi (to buy us a beer) - ko-fi.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsMerch - bonfire.com/store/kentucky-fried-critics#PaulyShoreisDead #Mockumentary #MovieReview #Podcast #SeasonFinale

"We're not vigilantes." | Ring of the Musketeers
This week on the podcast we’re stepping into the glorious, low quality chaos of 1992’s TV movie extravaganza, Ring of the Musketeers! Join us as we break down David Hasselhoff and Cheech Marin leading a band of modern-day Musketeers riding motorcycles through Los Angeles. Does it hold up as a forgotten cult classic, or should it have stayed locked in the vault? To complement our high-stakes silliness, we’re sipping on Something Witty, a refreshingly light Belgian Witbier brewed with citrusy orange peels by Sawstone Brewing Company. Its smooth, bright flavor profile provides the perfect palate cleanser after a heavy dose of over the top Hoff action. All for one and one for all!Instagram - @kentuckyfriedcriticsFacebook - www.facebook.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsYouTube - www.youtube.com/@kfcriticsE-mail - [email protected] - patreon.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsKo-Fi (to buy us a beer) - ko-fi.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsMerch - bonfire.com/store/kentucky-fried-critics#RingoftheMusketeers #MovieReview #BeerPairing #SawstoneBrewing #SomethingWitty

"You know, a million dollars doesn't buy all that much these days." | Blank Check
This week, we’re revisiting the ultimate childhood wish fulfillment fantasy, Blank Check! Join us as we dissect Preston Waters’ unhinged spending spree, question the intelligence of adults, and the dangers of an office water slide. Most importantly we ask each other "What WOULD you do with a million dollars as an 11-year-old?" and how long that money would have lasted. To match our high-roller dreams on a sensible budget, we’re sipping on Piggy Bank Light, a crisp, ultra-refreshing pilsner from Fifty West Brewing. It might be light on the ABV but the clean taste and drinkability will have you throwing them back like you're a millionaire. "After fifteen years, we're finally rescued!" | Rescue from Gilligan's Island
This week we took a 3 hour tour (not really) of the 1978 made-for-TV reunion movie Rescue from Gilligan's Island. The Castaways finally get off the island, but that's just where the chaos starts! From Russian spies to makeshift bamboo tech with a little help from space, we break down all the cheesy 70s nostalgia. And to help us navigate the madcap journey home, we found a pairing that even Gilligan's couldn't screw up in Gilligan's Red Ale from West Side Brewing. It's a rich, malty Irish-style Red Ale with smooth caramel notes that makes getting shipwrecked with a 6-pack almost sound appealing.GILLIGAN!!!Instagram - @kentuckyfriedcriticsFacebook - www.facebook.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsYouTube - www.youtube.com/@kfcriticsE-mail - [email protected] - patreon.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsKo-Fi (to buy us a beer) - ko-fi.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsMerch - bonfire.com/store/kentucky-fried-critics#GilligansIsland #MovieReview #Podcast #BeerPairing #WestSideBrewing

"A web would indicate an arachnoid presence." | Arachnophobia
This week on the podcast we revisited the 1990 creepy crawly creature classic Arachnophobia. We break down how this movie gave an entire generation an irrational fear of household objects and what could be hiding inside. These practical effects and creepy killer spider story are possibly where Shane's own fear of spiders originated. And we found the perfect pair to all the eight-legged chaos in Original Sin's Black Widow Cider. Crafted with freshly pressed New York apples and blackberry this dark, tart and crisp pour is the ultimate companion for a night of battling off arachnids. It's got a bold dark color that's just as deep and intoxicating as it's bite. The itsy-bitsy spider crawled up the water spout.Instagram - @kentuckyfriedcriticsFacebook - www.facebook.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsYouTube - www.youtube.com/@kfcriticsE-mail - [email protected] - patreon.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsKo-Fi (to buy us a beer) - ko-fi.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsMerch - bonfire.com/store/kentucky-fried-critics#Arachnophobia #MovieReview #Podcast #OriginalSin #BlackWidow

"Wait till he goes to the bathroom." | Man's Best Friend
Put on your seatbelts and lock up the neighborhood cats because this week we're taking a trip back to 1993 for the sci-fi/horror/creature feature Man’s Best Friend!Max is just your run of the mill dog spliced with DNA from cheetahs, bears, and... chameleons. Once his sedatives wear off, the body count starts rising in this absolute beast of a B-movie.To survive the carnage, we needed a beer with a bite equally fierce. Enter Hellhound IPA from our local brewery Sawstone Brewing Co.. A bold, resinous West Coast IPA boasting a 7.6% ABV, a sturdy malt backbone, and a heavy dose of piney, bitter hops. With enough flavor to match anything that Max 3000 could throw at us we knew we found the perfect pairing. He's not your typical dog!Instagram - @kentuckyfriedcriticsFacebook - www.facebook.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsYouTube - www.youtube.com/@kfcriticsE-mail - [email protected] - patreon.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsKo-Fi (to buy us a beer) - ko-fi.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsMerch - bonfire.com/store/kentucky-fried-critics#MansBestFriend #MovieReview #Podcast #BeerPairing #Hellhound

This week, we're lacing up our boots and taking a trip back to 1993 for the beloved Disney sports classic, Cool Runnings. So get ready to push off from the starting line as we dive into the true-ish story of the first Jamaican Bobsled Team, John Candy’s iconic performance, and why this movie’s heart still hits gold over 30 years later. To stay cool under pressure, we’re pairing this winter classic with a tropical torch of a craft beer, It's Not the Heat, It's the Humidity a Mango Habanero IPA from Sawstone Brewing Co. "Now you're the biggest idiot on two planets." | RocketMan (1997)
This week we strapped into our launch chairs and blasted off back to 1997 to revisit the peak slapstick, zero-gravity absurdity of Disney's RocketMan. We’re talking about Fred Z. Randall’s accidental astronaut journey, zero gravity shenanigans, and a chimpanzee co-pilot who might actually be the smartest crew member on the ship. Does this 90s nostalgia space trip still land with audiences? To survive the isolation of space we found the ultimate high octane rocket fuel: Voodoo Ranger G-Force IPA from New Belgium Brewing. Clocking in with a high enough alcohol percentage to simulate a real NASA gravity test, we’ll see if this crisp, hoppy pairing helps us stick the landing or causes a total mission failure. "Stupid is as stupid does." | Forrest Gump
This week on the pod we... are... running back to 1994 as we review the Best Picture powerhouse that is Forrest Gump. It's truly an epic masterpiece that we feel funny even explaining it here. We breakdown everything from the music, the amazing adventures, and even the book that it was all based on.We couldn't think of a better pairing for this one than a special cocktail that even Forrest might have had 15 of, Flaming Dr. Pepper. That's right we figured it was the perfect homage to the great ping pong master and his affinity for the non-alcoholic ones. This week on the podcast we unlock a prehistoric made-for-tv memory as we review the live-action fever dream that is Adventures in Dinosaur City. With peak 90s dialogue, teenage dinosaurs kicking butt and even a SNES companion video game, you'll be wondering how you missed this hidden gem. Or at the very least you'll wonder how we found it...To survive all this wild trip through dino mayhem we found the perfect pairing in Spinosaurus, a Mango IPA by the great people at Urban Artifact. "When my Grandfather died, all I got was a sweater." | Little Big League
Batter up, film buffs and beer lovers! This week on the podcast we stepped up to the plate and swung for the fences as we threw it back to 1994 to revisit Little Big League. Possibly the ultimate childhood fantasy movie that convinced every kid in the '90s they could manage a Major League baseball team with nothing more than baseball cards and video game knowledge. Quite possibly the best baseball movie that way too many people never heard of.To survive the high stakes of pennant races and middle-school homework, we cracked open a heavy hitter from the good people over at MadTree Brewing, Rounding Third Red IPA. This seasonal favorite brings a rich, caramel malt backbone that pairs beautifully with old-school stadium nostalgia, balanced by a sharp, citrusy hop finish that carries you all the way to home plate. You should start Wedman!Instagram - @kentuckyfriedcriticsFacebook - www.facebook.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsYouTube - www.youtube.com/@kfcriticsE-mail - [email protected] - patreon.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsKo-Fi (to buy us a beer) - ko-fi.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsMerch - bonfire.com/store/kentucky-fried-critics#LittleBigLeague #MovieReview #BeerPairing #MadTree #RoundingThird

"We don't need no stinking badgers." | UHF
This week we tuned into the zany and chaotic world of UHF, the 1989 cult comedy masterpiece by the undisputed king of parody, "Weird Al" Yankovic. We revisit George Newman's wild ride running (and saving) Channel 62 and all the personalities that call it home, so fire up the transmitters and grab your accordions! To match the vibrant, loud, and delightfully unconventional energy of this film, we cracked open a few cans of Squeezebox, a heavily fruited Strawberry Fruit Tart from Cincinnati's Urban Artifact. It's fruity, tart and with a flavor strong enough to stand up to the fast-paced, colorful sketches of this classic comedy. Not too many people know this, but the turtle is also Nature's suction cup.Instagram - @kentuckyfriedcriticsFacebook - www.facebook.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsYouTube - www.youtube.com/@kfcriticsE-mail - [email protected] - patreon.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsKo-Fi (to buy us a beer) - ko-fi.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsMerch - bonfire.com/store/kentucky-fried-critics#UHF #WeirdAl #MovieReview #BeerPairing #UrbanArtifact

"It'd be a lot cooler if you did" | Dazed and Confused
This week on the podcast we grabbed our keys, rolled down the windows, and started cruising all the way back to May 1976 to take a look at the Richard Linklater high school epic Dazed and Confused. From the legendary classic rock soundtrack to the brilliant ensemble cast, we talk about why this film holds the crown for the greatest cinematic hangout movie ever made. Even with it's 50 year old setting it still feels timeless today. To survive the hazing, climbing the moon tower, and Wooderson’s questionable philosophy, we are matching the film's patriotic time period with a beautiful piece of liquid history. We are drinking Narragansett Lager straight from their limited-edition USA 250th Anniversary cans! These stunning cans are a flawless reprint of 'Gansett's iconic 1976 Bicentennial Liberty Bell design for a double-shot of that 1976 aesthetic.Alright, alright, alright.Instagram - @kentuckyfriedcriticsFacebook - www.facebook.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsYouTube - www.youtube.com/@kfcriticsE-mail - [email protected] - patreon.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsKo-Fi (to buy us a beer) - ko-fi.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsMerch - bonfire.com/store/kentucky-fried-critics#DazedandConfused #MovieReview #Podcast #BeerPairing #Narragansett

"Oh, Rat Fart!" | Caddyshack
This week we grabbed our clubs and headed out to the back nine at Bushwood Country Club for a deep dive into the 1980 comedy masterpiece Caddyshack. A movie intended to be a teen comedy about the working class hijinks on the links that was hijacked by Murray, Chase and Dangerfield. In the process, and with the help of an animatronic gopher, they accidentally created a piece of film history. And what's a day on the fairway without a great beverage and we found the perfect one to pair with this golf classic in Gopher Golfin', a session IPA by Moeller Brew Barn. Wonderfully crisp, but sitting at a lower, "sessionable" ABV. It's clean, refreshing, and designed to keep your head clear whether you're playing 18 holes or trying to flush out a destructive varmint with plastic explosives. "Send...More...Paramedics" | The Return of the Living Dead
This week we are diving headfirst into a muddy graveyard of punk rock and practical effects with the 1985 horror-comedy masterpiece, The Return of the Living Dead. A groundbreaking zombie tale that drastically changed the undead creatures lore. These are some sentient, fast-moving ghouls that have been brought back by some shady military experiments hidden away in a warehouse basement in Kentucky. To survive the toxic military gas, we are cracking open a true local favorite, Dusty Bottoms, a pre-Prohibition style Kentucky Common style ale from Sawstone Brewing Co. (our local brewery). A style of beer that originates in Lousville, just like the outbreak of Trioxin zombies, and is comforting enough to help you survive the onslaught. You mean the movie lied? "The person who handed you this card is under the care of a prescription puppet" | The Beaver
This week we unpacked the fascinatingly weird 2011 film The Beaver, directed by Jodie Foster. A movie with a deceptive trailer that pulled us in with a wild premise and promises of absurd humor. Is it a bizarre dark comedy, a tragic look at mental health, or just Mel Gibson talking to his hand in a weird accent? To help us cope with the heavy themes and puppet-induced existential dread, we cracked open another perfect pairing in No Beavers Were Harmed, a luxurious Vanilla Bean Nitro Stout from the folks at our local brewery Sawstone Brewing Co. With hints of vanilla and a creamy nitro finish it is perfect for the film's wild highs and emotional lows. Please treat him as you normally would, but address yourself to the puppet.Instagram - @kentuckyfriedcriticsFacebook - www.facebook.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsYouTube - www.youtube.com/@kfcriticsE-mail - [email protected] - patreon.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsKo-Fi (to buy us a beer) - ko-fi.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsMerch - bonfire.com/store/kentucky-fried-critics#TheBeaver #MovieReview #Podcast #BeerPairing #NoBeaversWereHarmed

"They're real bad metal" | Omega Doom
This week we ventured into the post-apocalyptic robot filled ruins of 1996's Omega Doom. A very 90s aesthetic, cyborg cowboys, and Cold War vibes fill this low-budget reimagining of a western classic. Starring the legendary Rutger Hauer and providing a truly unique take on the Yojimbo story, this hidden gem was bad... in all the right ways.To help us wash down the radiation and rust, we’re cracking open a cold one that fits the theme perfectly, Peso in My Hand, a crisp, clean, and light-bodied Mexican lager by the people at Fretboard Brewing. A taste that cuts through the grit of this dusty dystopia. It's not quite "A Fistful of Dollars", but neither is the movie...He drinks water....with ice.Instagram - @kentuckyfriedcriticsFacebook - www.facebook.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsYouTube - www.youtube.com/@kfcriticsE-mail - [email protected] - patreon.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsKo-Fi (to buy us a beer) - ko-fi.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsMerch - bonfire.com/store/kentucky-fried-critics#OmegaDoom #MovieReview #Podcast #BeerPairing #PesoInMyHand

"Sir, it's moving!" | The Peanut Butter Solution
For this week's episode we venture into the surreal world of 1980s Canadian cinema to tackle The Peanut Butter Solution. A film that has lived rent-free in the "was that a fever dream?" corner of many people's brains for decades at this point. We break down the bizarre logic of hair-growing recipes, the questionable parenting of the 80s, and all the other madness. To wash down the stickiness of the plot (and cope with everything we had to witness), we’re sipping on a heavy hitter from Left Hand Brewing that perfectly mirrors the film's thick, nutty, and slightly dark undertones. The Peanut Butter Milk Stout was the perfect peanut butter solution for us as we took on The Fright and this strange tale.Human hair grows only half an inch a month, no more. This week on the podcast we grabbed our proton packs and P.K.E. meters as we headed back to the 1984 paranormal masterpiece, Ghostbusters. Whether you're in it for the antics of our ghost busting team or the terrifying elegance of Gozer the Gozerian and the terror dogs, we’re breaking down why this film remains a gold standard for the horror-comedy genre(s). To match the nostalgia of the film (and the entire Ghostbusters Empire), we are pairing this review with Ecto Punch by Atrium Brewing. This hard soda is a vibrant, citrusy throwback that looks like it was siphoned directly out of Slimer himself. Pack your bags and hide the fine china for this week's episode as we revisit the 1987 classic, Harry and the Hendersons. We discuss John Lithgow’s impeccable "dad energy" and whether this film actually makes a compelling case for the existence of Bigfoot as a gentle giant. Is Harry welcome in your home?To help us tame the beast, we found one of our own. We cracked open a Screamin' Sasquatch (or two) from Abettor Brewing Company. "Wurry Burry" | The Chipmunk Adventure
This week we embarked on a global hot air balloon race with the 1987 animated cult classic, The Chipmunk Adventure. Forget the modern CGI, we went all the way back to the hand-drawn era where Alvin, Simon, and Theodore went head-to-head against the Chipettes to help some diamond smugglers... Join us as we fly high with Alvin and the gang.To match the "high" adventure of the film, we needed something bold. At 8% ABV, this isn't your average juice-box cider. "You're endangering me." | The Upstairs Neighbor
This week on the podcast we climbed the creaky stairs into the eccentric world of James Merendino’s 1994 cult oddity, The Upstairs Neighbor (big thanks to Bloodstreamtv for hosting the movie). You may know him from SLC Punk, but this one is whole different world with a lot of that specific brand of "90s indie weirdness" that defines the era.Helping us navigate the movie’s frantic paranoid energy, we’re cracking open a heavy hitter in Double Dog Double IPA by Flying Dog Brewery. "Myy brother, the poolman." | In The Army Now | Kentucky Fried Critics | S 3 E 28
At ease, recruits! This week, we headed to the front lines of 90s slapstick. We revisited the 1994 comedy In The Army Now, starring Pauly Shore and Andy Dick as two slackers who join the Army Reserves. Does the humor hold up under fire, or should this one have stayed in the barracks? To help us navigate the desert heat, we’re cracking open a Voodoo Ranger Juice Force IPA. This Hazy Imperial IPA by New Belgium Brewing is a citrus-forward explosion of hops that packs a punch. This beer’s tropical sweetness is the perfect contrast to the dry, sandy humor of the Weasel. "We're the reasons why brothers hate their sisters!" | Little Monsters
Grab your flashlights and check your floorboards, this week we headed to the monster underworld! We took a look at the 1989 cult favorite Little Monsters, starring the brothers Savage and a very caffeinated Howie Mandel. Dive under your bed and come along for the ride.To wash down the "apple juice" pranks, we found a monster of our own in Simcoe Monster, a hazy NEIPA from the good people at Mirror Twin Brewing. "I have to push the pram a lot." | Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Grab your coconuts and your finest glassware, this week we ventured into the mist-covered hills of 932 AD England to revisit the comedy masterpiece Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Pull up a throne, mind the Bridge of Death, and don't forget to bring a shrubbery. To keep us alert through the perils of the Cave of Caerbannog, we’re sipping on Frenzied Chalice, a crisp Coffee Pilsner from the wizards over at DSSOLVR. A brew perfectly balanced to keep you protected from all the insults (and animals) that the French can throw at you.Strange women lyin' in ponds distributin' swords is no basis for a system of government. "I got a date with a soap on a rope." | Friday the 13th Part 7: The New Blood
This week we had to go back (a little late) to Crystal Lake as we try to tackle more of this franchise, this time with Friday the 13th Part 7: The New Blood, or as it has affectionately been dubbed "Jason vs Carrie". That's right the one with the psychic/telepathic powers. It also happens to be Kane Hodder's entrance into the franchise as Jason Voorhees. And if you’re going to deal with a telekinetic teenager fighting a zombie in a hockey mask, you’re going to need a stiff drink. We found the perfect thing in Friend of the Devil, a powerful Belgian Tripel by our local brewery Sawstone Brewing Co. The perfect companion, but be careful it is every bit as dangerous as Jason himself.A curse on Crystal Lake. "Prodigious!" | October Sky | Kentucky Fried Critics
This week, we’re heading to the a small West Virginia mining town in the 1950s so we can cover 1999 biographical masterpiece October Sky. This film is a powerful exploration of the "Space Race" era seen through the eyes of a group of boys determined to build their own rockets and be more than just another miner. And we're pairing it with a brew that perfectly captures the spirit of looking upward Skygazer Citrus Wheat by MadTree Brewing. This ale provides a crisp, citrusy escape from the heavy fate of the mines and a vision to the night sky. It's not just about building rockets...Instagram - @kentuckyfriedcriticsFacebook - www.facebook.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsYouTube - www.youtube.com/@kfcriticsE-mail - [email protected] - patreon.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsKo-Fi (to buy us a beer) - ko-fi.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsMerch - bonfire.com/store/kentucky-fried-critics#OctoberSky #MovieReview #BeerPairing #MadTree #Skygazer

"But in the failing light, they can't focus." | Reign of Fire
This week we headed into the scorched earth of 2002’s Reign of Fire. A close look at what happens when you wake up a dormant species of fire-breathing lizards in the London Underground. You get a gritty, soot-covered cult classic full of dragons and we are here for every minute of it.And we found the perfect pairing, a dragon for a dragon, we're fighting fire with fire. Toppling Giants Brewing's amazing Dragon Fandango and all the amazing fruit flavors help keep our spirits high as the apocalypse is in full swing. "I pledge of allegiance... to the band" | School of Rock
Grab your hall passes and join us as we revisit the golden age of Jack Black this week as we headed back to class for Richard Linklater’s musical classroom comedy, School of Rock. From the amazingly talented kids, to the (almost) creepy premise and all the classic rock you can handle. And we found the perfect pairing in Improv, a West Coast IPA from the people at Fretbaord Brewing Company. Just like a great rock performance, this beer is bold, loud, and expertly crafted with a taste that will have you feeling like your in the front row of your favorite show.Instagram - @kentuckyfriedcriticsFacebook - www.facebook.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsYouTube - www.youtube.com/@kfcriticsE-mail - [email protected] - patreon.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsKo-Fi (to buy us a beer) - ko-fi.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsMerch - bonfire.com/store/kentucky-fried-critics#SchoolofRock #MovieReview #Podcast #BeerParing #Improv

"I'll show you my cannelloni." | Grumpier Old Men
The boys are back... in Wabasha! That's right we revisited the 1995 sequel, Grumpier Old Men. We're talking Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau and their return as elderly frenemies, Max and John. This time their feud takes a backseat (sort of) when a new Italian restaurant threatens their beloved bait shop and brings another new woman to town. And to celebrate these two stubborn legends, it felt only appropriate to once again crack open a beer that feels like it was brewed specifically for these movies, Old and In the Way by our local brewery Sawstone Brewing Co. This beer is light and crisp and the perfect companion for a day battling it out over the ever elusive Catfish Hunter.Relax, kids swallow quarters all the time.Instagram - @kentuckyfriedcriticsFacebook - www.facebook.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsYouTube - www.youtube.com/@kfcriticsE-mail - [email protected] - patreon.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsKo-Fi (to buy us a beer) - ko-fi.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsMerch - bonfire.com/store/kentucky-fried-critics#GrumpierOldMen #Podcast #BeerPairing #SawstoneBrewingCo #OldandintheWay

"The bend and snap, works every time." | Legally Blonde
This week we took a look back at the 2001 Reese Witherspoon hit, Legally Blonde. From it's very Barbie-esque pink aesthetic to the highly relatable undertones of being the outcast, despite outwards appearances. This movie deserves all the love it gets and more, and we're here to give it our seal of approval. And in honor of Elle herself, we found an equally amazing drink that keeps things light, crisp, and sunny, just like Elle Wods. We are pairing this comedy with Approachable Blonde, a delicious blonde ale from Municipal Brew Works. What, like it’s hard? "Every cult worth it's salt has a compound." | How to Start a Cult in 5-Easy Steps
This week we were indoctrinated by the indie comedy/thriller "How To Start A Cult in 5 Easy Steps". It follows a debt-ridden graduate who decides that if you can’t join the workforce, you should exploit it by becoming a guru. It’s a satire on modern "alpha" influencers, financial desperation, and the chaos of manipulation. It's directed by Wes Clark, who we were able to chat with and will release that interview later in the week. And for our drink of choice we decided to stay away from the Kool Aid at the compound and instead went with a delicious 10 Ton oatmeal stout from Warped Wing Brewing Company. With it's chocolate and coffee notes and smooth creamy texture, it was the perfect thing to keep us from being swayed by a charismatic cult leader. You wanna stay on the right side of your followers...Link to the movie: https://www.howtostartacultin5-easysteps.com/Instagram - @kentuckyfriedcriticsFacebook - www.facebook.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsYouTube - www.youtube.com/@kfcriticsE-mail - [email protected] - patreon.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsKo-Fi (to buy us a beer) - ko-fi.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsMerch - bonfire.com/store/kentucky-fried-critics #howtostartacultin5easysteps #moviereview #podcast #beerpairing #warpedwing

"I might know everything. Ask me something!" | Year One
We are kicking off the year by turning back the clock—way, way back—to tackle the 2009 religious-adjacent comedy Year One. Directed by Harold Ramis and starring the chaotic duo of Jack Black and Michael Cera, this movie takes us on a road trip of biblical proportions through the Old Testament. Is it a misunderstood satire or a relic best left in the stone age? To help us navigate the perils of Sodom and the attacks from Cain, we are drinking a beer fit for an Emperor, and even a lowly caveman or two, Hazicus Maximus from Lagunitas Brewing Company. It’s a colossal Hazy IPA that packs a punch strong enough to knock out a hairy high priest.I've seen what you do with your right hand. "Throwing a party it's like... it's like an invitation for abuse." | 200 Cigarettes
We are heading way back to New Year's Eve 1981! That's right, we're tackling the star-studded cult classic that's pure 80's chaos wrapped in 90's packaging, 200 Cigarettes. We discuss whether this massive ensemble cast saves the chaotic plot, and why hasn't this movie become more a secret holiday staple... And Sawstone Brewing Co., our own local brewery gave us the perfect pairing. Their Sweater Weather IPA, it’s a very inviting IPA that's cozy enough to settle you down. "We're gonna have the hap hap happiest Christmas" | National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
Nobody's walking out on this fun, old-fashioned family Christmas. This week we are revisited the ultimate holiday of errors, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. Clark desperately battles with the in-laws (and unexpected guests), the squirrels, and the jelly-of-the-month club Christmas bonus trying to reclaim that elusive festive feeling of yesteryear. And what better to help Clark try and capture that perfect family memory than a nice cold one. We found the perfect pairing, and gift to honor all the Dad's like Clark this season, in Dad a Hoppy Holiday Ale by Rhinegeist Brewery. "Come around with your husband, we'll have a blizzard!" | The Year Without A Santa Claus
This week we took a look at another Rankin/Bass stop-motion classic, The Year Without a Santa Claus. Santa called in sick, Vixen is in the dog pound (literally), and we are caught in the middle of the ultimate sibling rivalry between Heat Miser and Snow Miser. And to help us decide whether we're team "Mr. 10 below" or "Mr. 101," we are drinking the X-Mas Cookie from Fifty West Brewing Company. It’s a winter warmer with flavorful hints of Christmas, loaded with cinnamon, vanilla, and brown sugar. "I made my family disappear." | Home Alone
Very big in Sheboygan. This week, we’re eating junk and watching.... a true holiday classic! That's right, we finally sit down to talk about the 1990 holiday mainstay, Home Alone. John Hughes masterfully wrote this gem that blends a home invasion into family holiday cheer. Big names, lots of fun and family (and personal) redemption just in time for Christmas. And to help us find the courage and inspiration to defend ourselves from the Wet Bandits, we found just the drink in Christmas Ale from Jackie O's Brewery. With warm winter spices and hints of honey, this ale really did help boost the Christmas vibes as we entered further into the season and further on our Christmas movie journey.Keep the change, ya filthy animal!Instagram - @kentuckyfriedcriticsFacebook - www.facebook.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsYouTube - www.youtube.com/@kfcriticsE-mail - [email protected] - patreon.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsKo-Fi (to buy us a beer) - ko-fi.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsMerch - bonfire.com/store/kentucky-fried-critics#HomeAlone #Christmas #Classic #MovieReview #Podcast

"I am one with the Yuletide, know what I mean?" | Ernest Saves Christmas
This week, we took a look at the 1988 holiday laugh fest that is Ernest Saves Christmas. We hopped in the taxi with the one and only Ernest P. Worrell as he got taken on a wild journey to help THE Santa find a worthy successor. Christmas cheer, 2 different Santa's, and all the Ernest P. Worrell chaos make for a truly special holiday romp. And what better to pair it with than a glass of a special holiday treat, Sugar Cookies from Ellicottville Brewing Company. "You've gotta think to shrink, so you've gotta know to grow!" | Mother Goose Rock n' Rhyme
Hop to it!This week we detour through Rhymeland and watch Shelley Duvall's Mother Goose Rock 'n' Rhyme (what a mouthful). Imagine if MTV hijacked your childhood nursery rhyme book. Mother Goose has been kidnapped, and it's up to her son, Gordon Goose, with help from Little Bo Peep to find her in this technicolor, pun-filled world of 90's nostalgia and rock star cameos. And to pair with this movie we found something that even Mother Goose's pet Honker would approve of in Honker's Ale by Goose Island Brewery. "A machine becomes human when you can't tell the difference anymore." | D.A.R.Y.L.
This week we booted up the 1985 sci-fi family adventure, D.A.R.Y.L. We follow the adventures of a "Data Analyzing Robot Youth Lifeform," a top-secret government project who escapes, finds a foster family, and just wants to be a real kid... albeit a kid who can hack ATMs and fly an SR-71 Blackbird. Is this the next step in AI or is this pure sci-fi fantasy? And since we're not robots (we think), we needed a little help with processing all of the 80s fun. We found the perfect upgrade in TechnoSignature, a double New England style IPA from R. Shea Brewing. Flavorful and strong enough to match D.A.R.Y.L.'s programming.Holy shit! He's a robot? "My friends and I want to see a naked lady." | Milk Money
This week, we're diving into one of the most tonally bizarre "comedies" of the 90s, Milk Money! This movie asks the tough questions, like "What if three suburban kids pooled their cash, went to the city to hire a sex worker, and then just... brought her home?" Then it morphs into a rom-com between a hooker-with-a-heart-of-gold and an absent minded dad. It's a clunky, strange, and unforgettable mess, and we're here to unpack all of it. We found the perfect dark and sweet brew to match the tone of this movie in Left Hand Brewing's delicious Milk Stout Nitro. It's a creamy, smooth stout big on flavor and the nitro pushes that even further. But the real question is can it help us try and figure out who the audience for this movie was, we sure hope so.It's okay, they're not hairy enough to be dangerous.Instagram - @kentuckyfriedcriticsFacebook - www.facebook.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsYouTube - www.youtube.com/@kfcriticsE-mail - [email protected] - patreon.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsKo-Fi (to buy us a beer) - ko-fi.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsMerch - bonfire.com/store/kentucky-fried-critics#MilkMoney #Comedy #MovieReview #90sNostalgia #BeerPairing #CraftBeer #MilkStoutNitro #LeftHandBrewing #Podcast #KentuckyFriedCritics
