Ep 138: Knitting & Magic During a Hurricane
Text the Show! In this special episode of Knit A Spell, I’m sharing my personal experience with Hurricane Milton and how I used a protection sigil, magic, and knitting to keep myself, my family, and our home safe. As the eye of the storm passed directly over Sarasota, Florida, I combined practical action with magical intention to create a spell jar for protection. Using water from Hurricane Helene, Good Luck Oil from Madame Pamita, and a sigil I designed, I crafted a powerful protection spell—and then turned to knitting to keep myself grounded through the chaos. In this episode, I’ll walk you through: • How I created and activated my protection sigil • The magical elements I used, including hurricane water and ice cubes • My knitting project during the storm: a center-out shawl that became a tarot spread cloth • Reflections on how magic and knitting work together to bring calm in stressful times I also share some critical tips for staying grounded during a natural disaster—like finding trustworthy news sources—and give a huge shoutout to the amazing line workers who helped restore power so quickly! Ep 127: TINK Positive!
Text the Show! Welcome to Episode 127 of Knit a Spell! This time around, Jim and I unraveled the concept of TINK-ing - that’s knit spelled backwards, for the uninitiated. We delved deep into the philosophical and metaphysical implications of undoing our work, whether it's stitches on a needle or patterns in our lives.I kicked things off by introducing the concept of TINKing, or undoing our knitting as a metaphor for reflection and reconsideration in our craft and personal lives. We explore common scenarios that prompt knitters to undo their work, from mistakes to aesthetic changes, and Jim had some novice insights that were enlightening. The episode takes a mystical turn as we considered undoing in the magical realm, including an interesting practice involving crocheting a chain to represent something one wishes to undo. Jim shares how undoing our knitting can parallel releasing or altering intentions or energies in the magical practice, from breaking habits to transforming relationships. How would you use the act of un-knitting as a magical act?
