    Home-what is it for you?

Send us Fan MailHome—What is it for you?Delbert and Hess join together for their 54th podcast and talk about “home”.  What is it?—it’s not always a structure, it’s a place where your heart is.  A place where you belong, where you connect.  Delbert is taking a book from her childhood today to her niece’s baby shower, We Were Tired of Living in the House, by Liesel Moak Skorpen.  Four small children, a dog, and a cat move into a tree, pond, cave and seashore, but something unusual happens to make them move on to the next place, and finally home.  Home is where we enrich ourselves, recharge, and go out into the world.  Home is  Hess’s horse, Speedy, when she is riding him up the big hill. Home is the gathering around the table. Home is the memories that we take with us when we sell our house. Think about it.  What makes “home” for you?  Listen, like, subscribe and pass it on!   Peace and Love! Legacies--big and small

Send us Fan MailLegacies—big and smallLegacy is how we leave a footprint to the people that come after us.  Thanks for joining us on our Sunday morning chat!  Hess and Delbert had reunited with their Barkley Village this past week.  They enjoyed their time together—especially the conversations around the table. They also experienced important legacies of Kentucky—horses, the land and bourbon!  They toured Keeneland Racecourse, they visited Hess at her farm, they went to the races, and they toured Makers Mark distillery in Loretto Ky.  Legacy can come in many forms-from just the gathering of family or friends around a table, land that gets passed down, or to a new taste of a bourbon.  Legacy can begin at anytime, legacy can change and adapt to the time and the circumstances.  What are personal legacies that touch your life?  Please respond in your comments.  In addition to being a podcast host, Hess is also an LCSW--if you'd like to learn more about her work as a therapist, check it out at www.jessicabollinger.comOne of her mission's is for all of our lights to shine--when we see each other and allow ourself to be seen--and we can say to the person in front of us, There You Are! the world will be an amazing place!Delbert is a top realtor in Louisville, KY, and you can find her at  Kentucky Select Properties   She will help you find your home, and also help you get the most equity when you sell your house.  Her philanthropic work to continue her sister Carole and niece Meghan is Carole's Kitchen. Send us Fan MailWe grow when we do the hard thingsHess is back from a trip in France, and Delbert is back on the green couch today to talk to you about life—Join us in this chat.  They had watched a video of Kara Lawson, Duke women’s basketball coach, telling her players that they should never wait for things to get easier.  She tells them it won’t—but doing the hard things, will make it easier for you to do the hard things in the future. Delbert and Hess have talked a lot about this—doing the “next right thing” does NOT mean that it is the next “easiest thing.”  Listen up and tell us what you think about this.Peace and Love, and we believe in you—You CAN do it!Here is the link to Kara's talk:https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=oDzfZOfNki4 In addition to being a podcast host, Hess is also an LCSW--if you'd like to learn more about her work as a therapist, check it out at www.jessicabollinger.comOne of her mission's is for all of our lights to shine--when we see each other and allow ourself to be seen--and we can say to the person in front of us, There You Are! the world will be an amazing place!Delbert is a top realtor in Louisville, KY, and you can find her at  Kentucky Select Properties   She will help you find your home, and also help you get the most equity when you sell your house.  Her philanthropic work to continue her sister Carole and niece Meghan is Carole's Kitchen. Self Care

Send us Fan MailSelf Care—This is a previously recorded podcast.Hess and Delbert talk about how important self care is for our lives.  We have to listen to ourselves.  Delbert hit the “wall” after a very busy time, as she was walking her GrandDogs down the alley.  She went home, cooked herself some “soul food” (for her)—Linguini and clams, and binge watched her feel good series, Ugly Betty.  She did her laundry-returned calls and emails, and went to bed at 5:30.  After the following day, she was recharged.Self Care is so important.  Our body needs it to stay healthy.  Delbert pushed through old childhood guilt messages of “You have to stay busy”.  The previous year she had not listened to her body talking to her when it was tired. Her immune system was low and she had bronchitis twice.Hess shared Teal Swan's analogy—we are all “Cups”—if someone has their cup half full, we cannot ‘tilt’ our cup to fill theirs up.  The cups don’t tilt. The way to fill someone else’s cup is to allow our cup to overflow.Fill your cup!  Peace and Love friends!  Like and share! Neurotransmitters--the Brain Bridge to Possibility!

Send us Fan MailNeurotransmitters—the Brain Bridge to PositivityHess and Delbert feel energized when they talk about possibility.  They wanted to follow up and talk about it more after last week’s Podcast.   In their Sunday chat this morning, Hess explains how we can move from trauma to resiliency.  We can use the neuroplasticity of the brain to rewire and get out of the “ditch”. Trauma lives in the limbic area of the brain and stays there if it is not processed in a healthy way.  The trauma lives on in the re-triggering with anything similar to the trauma.  She is trained in a modality called Accelerated Resolution Therapy.  With this modality, the therapist leads the client to replace the trauma—with something different—something more positive.  After a session, the traumatic event is a fact-it happened, but the brain is no longer triggered emotionally.  There are options—there are ways to get the help we need to be able to “spiral back up”.  We can work together, there are solutions.  Delberts family charity, Carole’s Kitchen was able to combine with a bigger organization—Dare to Care that can help the Seneca Food Pantry stay stocked all year round. Do what you can to move to positivity—towards better outcomes.  It is good for you and for others. Thanks for listening!  We love you!  Like and share! Possibility--Your Reframe

Send us Fan MailPossibility—You Reframe  #49!Delbert and Hess have a Sunday afternoon chat today.  Hess just got back from boating with a friend on Dale Hollow Lake.  They are “lit up” and excited today to talk about Possibility. After Hess finished college—her Dad asked her what she was going to do, and when she told him she wanted to start a fruit market in Lexington, he responded, “Look into it.”   That was such a positive open response, Hess looked into it, and opened up that summer. Naive is NOT a negative, naive means you have the energy not stifled by negative experiences.  Her truck broke down on the Kentucky River Bridge returning from market and she handled it when it happened.  There is less worry. Delbert did a reframe from tragedy of her sister and nieces death and made Caroles Kitchen, serving youth hunger. Father Greg Boyle in LA with his Homeboy Industries sees the possibilities in the gang members, he gives them a new place to belong, work and learn. The teacher reframes acceptance to her students.  Connection and the “WE” moves us from US and THEM and gives a sense of greater good for the whole.   Listen up—We love you, thanks for joining us. Send us Fan MailUnity—We are all in this together  Our 48th podcast! It’s been a week where hard things have happened.  Delbert and Hess want to do a U-Turn like we talked about last week, and to move into Unity—.  We are better when we cross the bridge into the other’s world. Put good energy and love out there.  Be the sparkles on the wall—like Hess has her window covering that the light reflects rainbow colors on the wall—like Delbert’s sandals with shiny crystals that reflected sparkles around the house she was showing—Do your best to put some good energy and love out there!  You will feel better in that space!  It is all of us individually—in our differences that make life the wonderful place that it is. Run Towards It!

Send us Fan MailEpisode 47!  Run Towards It!Hess and Delbert were inspired this week by the passing of the mother of one of their classmates from Sacred Heart.  Maureen Walker was a musician, a teacher and a family counselor in Louisville Kentucky—also she was Delberts senior year cheerleading coach. She had a private practice in Louisville for 40 years.  She would see a need, and fill it.  It is what all of us must do. One step at a time. We take what we have experienced, oftentimes something that is very difficult, and we move forward to a change that would be better for others.  We feel the fear and run towards it. What can be done different? How can things be improved?  Our experiences are important, they guide us to the next best step.  Peace and Love, we believe in you, we hear you!  Run towards it! Send us Fan MailPodcast 46!  Honor the Hard and Make a  U-turn towards LoveHess and Delbert commiserate about the news headlines of the week.  People starving in Gaza, another school shooting, ICE holding people without cause.  It is tough and hard.  One of their classmates from Sacred Heart was the mother of the Minnesota shooter.  Their compassion goes out to her.  Hess finds solace in the words and wisdom of Buddhist practitioner Tara Brach.  “Don’t be dismayed by the brokenness of the world, all things break. And all things can be mended not with time as they say but with intention. So go, love intentionally, unconditionally.  Honor the hard.”  Delbert tells another story of her Papaw who on Labor Day made joy happen by thinking of a new paradigm.  Let’s go!  Let’s move to compassion and connection and weave a new world!  Peace and Love, and thanks for listening. Send us Fan MailPodcast 45!  Friends-Connection, it’s what its about!Hess heard today that “connection is the opposite of depression”.  That is something that Delbert and Hess learned last week from Jay Davidson, director of the Healing Place Recovery Center. He said “Addiction is the disease of isolation.”   Delbert and Hess talk today about friends.  Old friends, new friends.  Friendships evolve over time.  We have neighbor friends, school friends, friends from our kids when they are growing up.  Hess got 12 new friends from pickleball by running into an old friend sitting next to her at a concert.  Friends help our hearts. We can be there to listen, and a friend can be there to listen to us. Through the hard times and the good times.  Make someone’s day! Mentorship: Learning from others who have learned from others.

Send us Fan MailHess and Delbert have a great conversation this morning about mentoring. When we mentor, it helps someone else, but it also helps ourselves.  Hess just attended the Freedom Dinner for the Healing Place the night before.  The Healing Place is a free addiction and recovery facility in Louisville and now in Campbellsville Ky.   They honored the past director Jay Davidson for his over 35 year career at the Healing Place.  There are 125 employees and 85% are alumnae.  Hess read that the International Space Station crew safely splashed down yesterday morning.  They were replaced last week by a new crew.  Anne Mclain who had been in space for 148 days talked about how amazing things can get done with world collaborations.  The predominant theme was gratitude for the experience together, and the things they accomplished.  It was a “snapshot of humanity.”   “When you reach your goals, send the elevator back down.” McClain wrote.   Delbert and Hess expand on that in their own lives, how they have learned and then passed on down their knowledge and experiences.   Even our loves get passed down—Delberts love of the water to her kids and darlings, and Hess with her horses, and her pastime on her boat.   Peace and love,  Listen and share and give us some feedback! Possibilities--Moving into a Better Place

Send us Fan MailThis morning on our Sunday chat, Hess and Delbert add onto last weeks podcast that was on Imagination—what can come next is possibilities.  When we sit with what is, and are able to feel it, we can think of new ways things could be.  We can see opportunities of changing something, doing something new, or even just looking at it in a new way.  It begins with wondering, being with it, focusing, then moving into creativity.  We change things for ourselves in our own personal world.  We can change things that would be good for others also.  Surround yourself with people who are positive, that tell you they believe in you.  Give yourself the creative space to focus in.  Then act and move to the implementation of possibilities.   Hess gives a salute to the life of Andrea Gibson, the poet laureate of Colorado, who just passed away from a long fight with cancer on July 14th.   In her messages and poems she often gave us the possibility of looking at challenges in a new light. Send us Fan MailDelbert and Hess love, love this topic—Imagination!  In this Sunday morning chat, join us for our discussion about imagination.  Imagination is the bridge from the reactivity of the limbic brain—fight, flight, freeze—into the broad expanse of the potential and unlimited possibilities in the universe!  We again, talk about Delbert’s Papaw, and how imagination kept him alive in the 104th division of the U.S. Army in Europe in WW 2.  Papaw had a wife and family to come home to.  He continued that practice in all of his life, and inspired his children and grandchildren to continue using imagination.  Imagination moves us from fear based thoughts, connects us to our hearts and moves us to a broader sense of reality that is love based.  Delbert and Hess share their own personal stories of imagination making their life what it is today.   Peace and Love, think about imagination and it moving you forward to the next best step!   Tara Brach's website and talk about imagination:  https://www.tarabrach.com/the-healing-power-of-imagination-part-1/ In addition to being a podcast host, Hess is also an LCSW--if you'd like to learn more about her work as a therapist, check it out at www.jessicabollinger.comOne of her mission's is for all of our lights to shine--when we see each other and allow ourself to be seen--and we can say to the person in front of us, There You Are! the world will be an amazing place!Delbert is a top realtor in Louisville, KY, and you can find her at  Kentucky Select Properties   She will help you find your home, and also help you get the most equity when you sell your house.  Her philanthropic work to continue her sister Carole and niece Meghan is Carole's Kitchen. Our Tribes and Villages--

Send us Fan MailDelbert and Hess have their Sunday morning chat today about what having a tribe or village in our lives does for us.  They are varied.  This week Delbert was grateful for her Kentucky Select tribe of mentors and colleagues that she works with in real estate,  grateful for her village of family, the village of friends.   Hess is on her boat, the Relation Ship on the Rideau Canal, finishing up a two week cruise with her friend Melinda.  She belongs to a tribe of people that own the same type of vessel—a Rosborough 246.  They joined up and cruised for a while with Mike and Linda on their Rosborough—the Tailwind, they met up also with Rob on his, called Sweet Pea’.   (He is a big Popeye fan.)  Hess spoke of feeling a connection—a camaraderie that happens with these boaters—feeling like she has always known them.  Our village or tribe accepts us for who we are.  It is important that they are compassionate and help raise us up.  We are better when the people around us share their knowledge and talents with us.  Who are your tribes?  Peace and Love, and please like and subscribe and share! Our Independent Memories--July 4th

Send us Fan MailDelbert and Hess, from their respective places in their lives, and in their memories discuss the 4th of July.  Hess informs the conversation of the history of the 4th of July and how it came about.   They both speak of what they like the most.  Delbert has a top five, Family, food, music and water.  Fireworks being last and not as important.  The fireworks are something that always surrounded us, but sometimes caused fear and pain!  With Delbert being the oldest of seven, she recalls her father being the sergeant of safety.  The kids had to hold their arms straight out and when the lit sparkler got close to their hand they took it to the water and put it out, and then put the end into the sand.  Hess remembers a hot sparkler was set on the naugahyde helm seat on the boat.  We invite you to join our conversation.  What does the 4th mean to you?  How do you hold it in your memories?  Peace and Love! Be a Helper, It Makes Life Better!

Send us Fan MailIn this week’s Sunday conversation, Delbert and Hess reflect on the helpers of the world.  Hess has had quite the list of things on the farm that needed to be repaired the last 6 weeks—her geothermal furnace, the brakes on her boat trailer, and then this week, the well pump on the farm and other components needed replaced.  Delbert made the point that helpers can get good feelings by helping—an endorphin rush by helping, and also by figuring out solutions to problems. Helpers come in all sizes. There are the police, the nurses, firefighters who of course are helpers. Delbert also appreciates the lifeguards at Turner pool and all the helpers that cleaned it up after it was flooded by the river this spring.  She also appreciates how good it feels to walk in her neighborhood Trader Joe’s.  All the people there are so helpful and friendly.  Hess really loves the connections she has with the people she depends on to keep everything running at the farm.  She respects their abilities and knowledge.  She loves them as people.   Hess and Delbert also bring up the point that it’s important to ask for help.  It gives others a gift to be able to help.  Edie Windsor needed help to fight for the legal rights of her marriage to her wife Thea, and Robbie Kaplan, took her case.   Mr. Roger’s says there are three key’s to being an ultimate success: “Number one, be kind; Number two, be kind, and Number three, be kind.”  In addition to being a podcast host, Hess is also an LCSW--if you'd like to learn more about her work as a therapist, check it out at www.jessicabollinger.comOne of her mission's is for all of our lights to shine--when we see each other and allow ourself to be seen--and we can say to the person in front of us, There You Are! the world will be an amazing place!Delbert is a top realtor in Louisville, KY, and you can find her at  Kentucky Select Properties   She will help you find your home, and also help you get the most equity when you sell your house.  Her philanthropic work to continue her sister Carole and niece Meghan is Carole's Kitchen. Pride Month! Be Proud and Own Who You Are!

Send us Fan MailHess and Delbert invite you to the celebration of Pride Month.  They both share their own experiences of their life, having been born in 1958.  Hess talks about the Stonewall riot that created a shift towards gay rights.  There is a National Monument in Christoper Park in NYC in its commemoration.  You don’t know what you don’t know, so Hess talks about how confusing it was to her, not to see any representation in her childhood with who she was.  It made her difficult for her to even know who she was because nothing was ever mirrored back.  In NYC it was against the law to serve a homosexual a drink. The gay bars back then in the city were run by the mafia, and things were kept hidden.   There were something like 10,000 rights that were not given to a gay person or couple.   In these days, as rights have expanded, it is important as Delbert says, that “We have to keep moving forward!”  We need to acknowledge and celebrate the differences.  Delbert and Hess love our Governor Andy Beshear because he takes the side of the LGBTQ+.  This is the way that the real Jesus Christ loves.  Celebrate the diversity—it is where the magic is!  Peace and Love. Living Wholeheartedly Can Get You Through

Send us Fan MailDelbert and Hess just got back to Kentucky after being with their tribe at Bethany Beach, Delaware.  They came back with the spirit of living wholeheartedly. They all read Brené Browns the Gifts of Imperfection before they got together. They talked about letting go of fear of what people think and moving into authenticity; moving from perfectionism into self compassion; moving from numbing and powerlessness to a resilient spirit; from scarcity and fear of the dark into gratitude; from the need of certainty to listening to your intuition and have trusting faith; creativity; comparisons to creativity; don’t buy into exhaustion as a status symbol, but move to play and rest; anxiety as a lifestyle to calm and stillness; “supposed to’s” to meaningful work; and finally being cool and ‘always in control’ to laughter, song and dance. You got this!  Be You. Living in the beautiful circles of Life

Send us Fan MailOut of perfection nothing can be made. Every process involves breaking something up. The earth must be broken to bring forth life. If the seed does not die there is no plant. Bread results from the death of wheat. Life lives on lives. Our own life lives on the acts of other people. If you are lifeworthy, you can take it.  -- Joseph CambellIn this episode, Delbert and Hess share their recent experiences of noticing the circles. The circles that begin, even in the face of some thing hard, even the tragedy of death.  We do the next best thing, one step at a time. 16 years later, Delbert finds herself back in the same Texas Roadhouse where she sat stunned after her sister and nieces' death, now she returns and is tingling.  She is being greeted by Taquan who just graduated, and how he was an integral part of Caroles Kitchen at his Seneca High School.  We take the seeds that come our way, and we plant them, and even though circumstances happen, they will take hold. Finding Balance with Connection-

Send us Fan MailDelbert and Hess talk about connection helping them process and re-balance. Delbert shared what she and her daughter Sophie love to do—it is a daily exercise from the book the Artists Way by Julia Cameron—You do what is called Morning Pages, and you write—stream of consciousness, without any self editing, whatever shows up—  This is a great tool to help you balance, help get your creativity going, helping you get a great start for the day.   Hess shared the Liz Gilbert exercise from her Substack.  You ask Unconditional Love a question.  Any question that you are grappling with.  And then, you allow her the space for her to write back to you—you just start with pen and paper, or the keyboard—she is directly speaking to you—no edit, no stopping—let her say it.  It comes from your inner being full of love.  Delbert gives the listeners the scoop on how she become known as the "Darling" to her grandchildren, and how the "Darling Society" was born!
