S3E245 – 1 Chronicles 20-24: A Special Spot

Transcript Podcast Introduction Since today is Tuesday, we’ll be reading from one of the books of History. We’re currently working our way through 1 Chronicles, and today we’ll read chapters 20-24. After the reading, I’ll have some comments for you. I’m calling today’s episode “A Special Spot.” Design: Steve Webb | Photo: Ilanit Ohana on Unsplash Comments on 1 Chronicles 21 1 Chronicles 21:18 Then the angel of the Lord spoke to Gad. He said, “Tell David to build an altar to worship the Lord. David must build that altar near the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.” David went against the word of the Lord and ordered a census of the Israelites, which angered the Lord, and He punished Israel. David repented, and asked God to forgive him. God told David’s seer, Gad, that David must choose between three punishments, and David chose to put himself in God’s hands, instead of man’s. In the midst of the punishment, which brought a sickness on the people of Israel in which 70,000 died, God stayed the hand of the angel which He had sent to destroy Jerusalem. At this point, the angel of the Lord was standing at the threshing floor of Araunah (Ornan in other translations) the Jebusite. David saw the angel, and he asked God to punish him and his family and not the people, because it was he (David) who had sinned. And the angel of the Lord spoke to Gad. He said, “Tell David to build an altar to worship the Lord. David must build that altar near the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.” There are some interesting facts concerning this event and this place. 1) This is the only altar before any of Israel’s exiles that God had commanded to be built 2) This threshing floor was on Mount Moriah, which is where Abraham offered Isaac and is in the same hills where Jesus was crucified. 3) Mount Moriah is inside what was to become the city of Jerusalem, and is where Solomon built the Temple, and where it will someday be rebuilt. So during the Millennial reign of Jesus, He will again stand on this land. I think it’s safe to say that this is one of the most significant places on earth! What is there is a bunch take a look at Lifespring media.com. Well, what do you say we get started? Steve Webb 1:21First Chronicles chapter 20. In the spring, the time of year when kings normally went out to battle Joab bled out the army of Israel let David stayed in Jerusalem. The army of Israel destroyed the land of Amman and went to the city of Rabbah and attacked it. David took the crown off the head of their King and had it placed on his own head. That gold crown weighed about 75 pounds and it had valuable gems in it. And David took many valuable things from the city. He also brought out the people of the city and forced them to work with saws, iron picks and axes. David did this to all the Ammonites cities. Then David and all his army returned to Jerusalem. Later it geezer war broke out with the Philistines Sybil chi the use of ICT killed sippy who was one of the descendants of the Rafale knights, so those Philistines were defeated. Later there was another battle with the Philistines. l Hainan son of Jair killed Lumie the brother of Goliath, who was from the town of gaff, his spear was as large as a weaver’s rod. At Gath. Another battle took place, a huge man was there, he had six fingers on each hand, and six toes on each foot 24 fingers and toes and all. This man also was one of the sons of refa when he spoke against Israel, Jonathan, son of Shamia, David’s brother killed him. These descendants at refa from gaff were killed by David and his men. Steve Webb 2:48First Chronicles chapter 21. Satan was against the Israelites, he encouraged David to count the Israelites. So David said to Joab and the leaders of the people go and count all the Israelites count everyone in the country, from the town of Beersheba all the way to the town of Dan, then tell me so I will know how many people there are. But Joab answered, may the Lord make his nation 100 times as large, sir, all the Israelites are Your servants. Why do you want to do this thing, my lord and king, you will make all the Israelites guilty of sin. But King David was stubborn. Joab had to do what the king said. So Joab left and went through all the country of Israel, counting the people. Then he came back to Jerusalem and told David how many people there were. In Israel, there were 1,100,000 men who could use a sword. And there were 470,000 men and Judah who could use a sword Joab did not count the tribes of Levi and Benjamin because he did not like King David’s order. David had done a bad thing in God’s sight. So God punished Israel. Then David said to God, I have done something very foolish. I have committed a terrible sin by counting the Israelites. Now I beg you to take the sin away from me your servant. Gad was David seer. The Lord said to Gad, go and tell David. This is what the Lord says. I’m going to give you three choices. You must choose one of them, then I will punish you the way you choose. Then gad went to David. He said to David, the Lord says, David, choose which punishment you want. Three years without enough food, or three months of running away from your enemies while they use their swords to chase you. Or three days of punishment from the Lord. Terrible sicknesses will spread to the country and the Lord’s angel will go through Israel destroying the people. David, God sent me now you must decide which answer I will give to him. David said to God, I’m in trouble. I don’t want some man to decide my punishment. The Lord is very merciful. So let him decide how to punish me. So the Lord sent terrible sin In essence to Israel and 70,000 people died, God sent an angel to destroy Jerusalem. But when the angel started to destroy Jerusalem, the Lord sought and felt sorry for all the suffering. So he said to the angel who was destroying the people stop, that is enough. This happened when the angel of the Lord was standing at the threshing floor of Araunah, the Jebusite David looked up and saw the Lord’s angel in the sky. The angel was holding his sword over the city of Jerusalem. Then David and the elders bowed with their faces touching the ground. They were wearing the special clothes to show their sadness. David said to God, I am the one who sinned, I gave the order for the people to be counted. I was wrong. The Israelites did not do anything wrong. Lord, my God, punish me and my family, but stop the terrible sicknesses that are killing your people. Then the angel of the Lord spoke to gad. He said, tell David to build an altar to worship the Lord. David must build that altar near the threshing floor of a Rana the Jebusite. God told David this and David went to a rawness threshing floor. A Rana was threshing the wheat. He turned around and saw the angel. His four sons ran away to hide. David walked up the hill to a Rana Rana saw him and left the threshing floor. He walked to David and bowed with his face to the ground in front of him. David said to a Rana, sell me your threshing floor, I will pay you the full price, then I can use the area to build an altar to worship the Lord, then the terrible sicknesses will be stopped. Iran has said to David, take this threshing floor, you are my Lord and King. So do whatever you want. Look, I will also give you cattle for the burnt offering. You can have the wooden threshing tools to burn for the fire on the altar. And I will give the wheat for the grain offering. I will give all of this to you. But King David answered Irana No, I will pay you the full price. I will not take anything that is yours and give it to the Lord. I will not give offerings that cost me nothing. So David gave a Ronna about 15 pounds of gold for the place. David built an altar for worshiping the Lord there. David offered burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, he prayed to the Lord. The Lord answered David by sending fire down from heaven. The fire came down on the altar of burnt offering. Then the Lord commanded the angel to put his sword back into his sheath. David saw that the Lord had answered him on the threshing floor of Aruna, so David offered sacrifices there. The Lord’s holy tent, and the altar of burnt offerings were at the high place in the town of Gideon. Moses had made the holy tent while the Israelites were in the desert. David could not go to the holy tent to speak with God because he was afraid. He was afraid of the angel of the Lord and his sword. Steve Webb 7:53First Chronicles chapter 22. David said, the temple of the Lord God in the altar for burnt offerings for the Israelites will be built here. David gave in order for all foreigners living in Israel to be gathered together. He chose stone cutters from that group of foreigners. Their job was to cut stones ready to be used for building God’s temple. David got iron for making nails and hinges for the gate doors. He also got more bronze than could be weighed and more cedar logs than could be counted. The people from the cities of Sidon and tyre brought mini cedar logs to David. David said, we should build a very great temple for the Lord. But my son Solomon is young does not yet have enough experience to know how to do it well, it should be so great and beautiful that it will be famous among all the nations. So I will prepare what is needed to build it. So before David died, he prepared everything needed to build a great temple. Then David called for his son Solomon and told him to build the temple for the Lord, the God of Israel. David said to Solomon, my son, I wanted to build a temple for the name of the Lord, my God. But the Lord said to me, David, you have fought many wars, and you have killed many people. So you cannot build a temple for my name. But you have a son who was a man of peace, I will give your son a time of peace. His enemies around him will not bother him. His name is Solomon, and I will give Israel peace and quiet during the time that he is King. Solomon will build a temple for my name, he will be my son, and I will be his father. I will make his kingdom strong and someone from his family will rule Israel forever. They’ve also said, Now son, may the Lord be with you. May you be successful and build the temple for the Lord your God as He said you would. He will make you the king of Israel. May the Lord give you wisdom and understanding so that you can lead the people and obey the law of the Lord your God. And you will have success if you are careful to obey the rules and laws that the Lord gave Moses for Israel, be strong and brave. Don’t be afraid. Solomon I have worked hard making plans for the Lord’s temple. I have given 3750 tonnes of gold and about 37,500 tons of silver. I have given so much bronze and iron that it cannot be weighed. And I have given wood and stone, Solomon, you can add to them. You have many stone cutters and carpenters. You have men skilled in every kind of work. They are skilled and working with gold, silver, bronze and iron. You have more skilled workers than can be counted. Now begin the work and may the Lord be with you. Then David ordered all the leaders of Israel to help his son Solomon, David said to these leaders, the Lord your God is with you. He has given you a time of peace. He helped me defeat the people living around us, the Lord in His people are now in control of this land. Now give your heart and soul to the Lord your God and do what he says, Build the holy place of the Lord God, then bring the box of the Lord’s agreement and all the other holy things into the temple built for the Lord’s name. Steve Webb 11:10First Chronicles chapter 23. When David was old and approaching the end of his life, he made his son Solomon king over Israel. David assembled all the leaders of Israel along with the priests and the Levites. The Levites, who are 30 years old and up were counted. There were 38,000 men, David said, of these 24,000 are to direct the work of the Lord’s temple 6000 are to be officials and judges. 4000 are to be gatekeepers, and 4000 are to praise the Lord with the instruments I supplied for worship. David divided them into groups corresponding to the sons of Levi, Gershon, Kohath, and Moray, the Gershonites included laden and shimmy AI, the sons of laden Jihyo, the oldest, Zi thumb and Joel three and all the sons of shimmy AI, shallow moth, hazy yo and heron, three and all. These were the leaders of the family of Laden, the sons of shimmy AI, J half, Xena, G ash and Mariah, these were shimmy II sons for in all. J half was the oldest incisa the second oldest, G ash and Mariah did not have many sons, so they were considered one family with one responsibility. The sons of Kohath Amram izhar, Hebron, and Ezio for in all the sons of Amram, Aaron and Moses, Aaron and his descendants were chosen on a permanent basis to consecrate the Most Holy items to offer sacrifices before the Lord, to serve Him, and to praise his name. The descendants of Moses, the man of God were considered Levites the sons of Moses, Gershom and Eliezer, the son of Gershom should Buell the oldest, the son of Eleazer, was re Habiba the oldest Eloisa had no other sons, but Rhea baya had many descendants, the son of his har Shalom if the oldest, the sons of Hebron DARIAH, the oldest Amariah, the second to Hazel The third jakka Miam, the fourth, the sons of Asiel mica, the oldest and his Shaya, the second, the sons of Moray, malai and mu Shai, the sons of malai Eliezer and Kish Eliezer, died without having sons he had only daughters, the sense of Kesh their cousins married them, the sons of mu Shai malai, eater, and Jeremiah three and all. These were the descendants of Levi according to their families. That is the leaders of families as counted and individually listed, who carried out assigned tasks in the Lord’s temple, and were 20 years old and up. For David said, The Lord God of Israel has given his people rest in his permanently settled in Jerusalem, so the Levites no longer need to carry the tabernacle or any of the items used in its service. According to David’s final instructions, the Levites 20 years old and up were counted. Their job was to help Aaron’s descendants in the service of the Lord’s temple. They were to take care of the courtyards, the rooms, ceremonial purification of all holy items, and other jobs related to the service of God’s temple. They also took care of the bread that is displayed the flour for offerings, the unleavened wafers, the round cakes, the mixing, and all the measuring. They also stood in a designated place every morning and offered thanks and praise to the Lord. They also did this in the evening. And whenever burnt sacrifices were offered to the Lord on the Sabbath, and it New Moon festivals that assemblies, a designated number were to serve before the Lord regularly in accordance with regulations. They were in charge of the meeting tent and the holy place and helped their relatives the descendants of Aaron in the service of the Lord’s temple. Steve Webb 15:11First Chronicles chapter 24. The divisions of Aaron’s descendants were as follows The sons of Aaron Nadab, a by Hugh Eliezer and Ithamar may daban. Obi who died before their father did, they had no sons, Eliezer and Ithamar served as priests, David Ze, Doc, a descendant of Eliezer, and Ahimelech, a descendant of Ithamar divided them into groups to carry out their assigned responsibilities. The descendants of Le aser had more leaders than the descendants of Ithamar. So they divided them up accordingly, the descendants of Le A’s are had 16 leaders, while the descendants of Ithamar had eight. They divided them by lots for there were officials of the holy place and officials designated by God among the descendants of both Eliezer and Ithamar. The scribe Shemaiah, son of Nathanael, a Levite wrote down their names before the king, the officials, ze doc the priest, Ahimelech, son of Abiathar, and the leaders of the priestly and Levite families. One family was drawn by lot from a laser and then the next from Ithamar. The first lot went to Jehovah rib, the second to Judea, the third to harem, the fourth to see Yoram the fifth to Mao Kaija, the sixth to menjamin. The seventh to hackers, the eighth to Obeida, the knights to Joshua, the 10th, to second nya the 11th to Eliashib. The 12th to Jake him, the 13th to Hapa the 14th to just Shibby ab the 15th to Bilger the 16th to imer the 17th to hazer the 18th to happen says the 19th to Petha HYAH the 20th to Jahaz Cal, the 21st to Jaken the 22nd to gamble, the 23rd to delay the 24th to may Uzziah. This was the order in which they carried out their assigned responsibilities when they entered the Lord’s temple, according to the regulations given them by their ancestor Aaron, just as the Lord God of Israel had instructed him. The rest of the Levites included shoe bale from the sons of Amram. Judea from the sons of shoe bale. The firstborn is Shi’a from rehab via and the sons of rehab via Shalom off from the Israelites. J hath from the sons of shalom off the sons of Hebron DARIAH and Mariah, the second J zo the third and jeca miam the fourth, the son of Osito. Mica shamer from the sons of mica, the brother of mica, the Shi’a, Zechariah from the sons of a Shi’a, the sons of Moray malai and mu Shai, the son of J. Uzziah. Beano, the sense of Moray from J. Uzziah. Beano, shoham Zacher. And in Bri from Mali, le aser, who had no sons, from Kish, Jeremy to the sons of new Shai, my ally, eater, and Jeremiah. These were the Levites listed by their families, just like their relatives, the descendants of Aaron. They also cast lots before King David ze doc Ahimelech, the leaders of families, the priests and the Levites, the families of the oldest son cast lots along with those of the youngest. Steve Webb 18:35In chapter 21, verse 18, we read tell David to build an altar to worship the Lord David must build that altar near the threshing floor of Aruna, the Jebusite. All right, beloved, so what’s going on here? As you heard, David went against the word of the Lord and ordered a census of the Israelites which angered God, and He punished Israel. Well, that caused David to repent, and he asked God to forgive him. And God told David seer or prophet, a guy by the name of Gad, the David must choose between three punishments, and David chose to put himself in God’s hands instead of man’s. I think that was a wise decision, don’t you? Well, in the midst of the punishment, which brought a sickness on the people of Israel in which 70,000 died, God stayed the hand of the angel which he had sent to destroy Jerusalem. At this point, the angel of the Lord was standing at the threshing floor of Aruna, or Ornan, in other translations of David saw the angel and he asked God to punish him and his family and not the people because it was he David who had sinned. And the angel of the Lord spoke to GATT. He said, tell David to build an altar to worship the Lord and he must build that altar near the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite Well, the reason I bring this up to you is that there are some interesting facts concerning this event in this place. Number one is, this is the only altar before any of Israel’s exiles that God had commanded to be built? Isn’t that interesting. And number two, this threshing floor was on Mount Moriah, which is where Abraham offered Isaac, and it’s also in the same hills where Jesus was crucified. Number three, Mount Moriah is inside what was to become the city of Jerusalem, and is where Solomon built the temple and where it will someday be rebuilt. So during the millennial reign of Jesus here on earth, He will again stand on this very land. Isn’t that cool? Well, I think it’s safe to say that this is one of the most significant places on the entire face of the earth. You agree? Never comment. Have you ever been to Jerusalem? Let me know. May your breasts be like the clusters of grapes? and may the fragrance of your breath be like apricots. May your mouth be like the best wine flowing smoothly for my beloved, gliding gently over our lips as we sleep together, the beloved about her lover. I am my beloved’s and he desires me the beloved to her lover. Come My Beloved, let us go to the countryside. Let us spend the night in the villages. Let us rise early to go to the vineyards to see if the vines have butted to see if their blossoms have opened. If the pomegranates are in bloom. There I will give you my love. The mandrakes send out their fragrance over our door is every delicacy both new and old, which I have stored up for you my lover Steve Webb 2:40Song of Solomon chapter eight, the beloved to her lover. Oh how I wish you are my little brother nursing at my mother’s breasts. If I saw you outside, I could kiss you. Surely no one would despise me. I would lead you and bring you to my mother’s house the one who taught me I would give you spiced wine to drink the nectar of my pomegranates. The beloved about her lover. His left hand caresses my head and his right hand stimulates me. The beloved to the maidens. I admonish you will maidens of Jerusalem do not arouse or awaken love until it pleases the maidens about his beloved who is this coming up from the desert leaning on her beloved, the beloved to her lover. under the apple tree I aroused you there your mother conceived you there she who bore you was in labor of childbirth sent me like a cylinder seal over your heart, like a signet on your arm for love is as strong as death. Passion is as unrelenting as she’ll it’s flames burst forth. It is a blazing flame. Surging waters cannot quench love. Floodwaters cannot overflow it. If someone were to offer all his possessions to buy love, the offer would be utterly despised. the Beloved’s brothers. We have a little sister and his yet she has no breasts. What shall we do for her sister on the day when she is spoken for? If she is a wall, we will build on her a battlement of silver. But if she is a door, we will barricade her with boards of cedar. The beloved. I was a wall and my breasts were like fortress towers. Then I found favor in his eyes. The beloved to her lover. Solomon had a vineyard at Baal Haman. He leased out the vineyard to those who maintained it. Each was to bring 1000 shekels of silver for its fruit. My vineyard which belongs to me is at my disposal alone. The 1000 shackles belong to you. Oh, Solomon, and 200 shekels belong to those who maintain it for its fruit. The lover to His Beloved. Oh, you Stay in the gardens. My Companions are listening attentively for your voice. Let me be the one to hear it. The beloved to her lover, make haste to my beloved, be like a gazelle or a young stag on the mountains of spices. Steve Webb 5:17Beloved, as we’ve already discussed on a previous episode, Song of Solomon or Song of Songs can be seen as an allegory about the relationship between Jesus as the bridegroom and the church as the bride. Obviously, discussing all the imagery is far beyond the scope of this podcast. But I do suggest that you make it a point to get a good commentary and do your own study. It is well worth your time. What I’d like to do today is take a couple of minutes to focus on chapter seven, verse 10, where the bride exclaims, I am my beloved’s and he desires me. She says this after he’s told her the many ways that he finds her beautiful. It sort of reminds me of when Sally Field won the Oscar for Best Actress in 1985. Do you like me? Yes, it’s true. Despite our many flaws, Jesus finds us the church beautiful and worthy of His love. Romans five eight says, God demonstrates His own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Now, I cannot imagine why. Why would he do that? What could he possibly find in us that would cause him to give of himself so completely? Why would such a holy and perfect God loves me and you so much that he would give up the glories of heaven for even an instant to live amongst us on this tiny, dirty, sin filled and rebellious speck in the vastness of the universe to ultimately be tortured, and nailed to across like a common criminal? Why would he choose to take on my sins and yours? Why would he allow himself to be so utterly separated from God the Father because of me? Well, the answer is truly beyond my understanding. His Word tells me and I believe what the Word says that the only reason is because he loves me, and he loves you. But why does he love us? First, John four eight says simply because God is love. Let that sink in. God is love. Not God has love, but God is love. It is His essence. It is who He is. God is love. and he loves you. and he loves me. I am my beloved’s, and he desires me. I don’t know about you. But my response to that kind of love is to reciprocate, to return that love as much as I can, in my puny, imperfect human way, that thrills me to no end that he sees me as worthy of his attention. and above that, the fact that he’s working in me to refine me to purify me, so that on that day, when I see him face to face, I will be the bride that He desires. I’d love to hear your thoughts, send to Boostagram or call the Lifespring family hotline or go to the comments page or write an email. I’ll tell you how, at the end of the show, tomorrow will be prophecy Friday, and we’ll close the prophetic books with chapters 18 through 22 of the last book of the Bible, the Book of Revelation. Steve Webb 8:30Yesterday, I forgot to credit Daniel Terrell Leo as an associate producer on the show when I thanked him for his $150 donation. My apologies, Daniel, I did put you in the credits on the show notes page, but I missed it on the show. So that’s been rectified. Now. Today’s associate producer is Jared viewer. I think I’m pronouncing that right viewer bu er, he came in with $200. and his note says, Thanks for everything, Steve. I’m glad I was able to be a part of the final season. And by the way, yes, I keep most of the splits. But I also share some of the splits with the team that you hear me thank at the end of each show. Some of it goes to the podcasting 2.0 project and some goes to blueberry. I use blueberries plug in on the website, so they get some of it as well. I think that’s fair. and again, Brian, thanks for the Boostagram God bless you. and Lifespring family Berean brother Shawn, formerly of San Pedro Santa show number boost 13 357 sets, Sean said welcome Juliet just found this episode and the adorable photos in the show notes. Well, thank you, brother Sean. Of course, Sean is referring to the birth of our sixth grandchild Juliet Grace Webb, who was born a week ago today, the lovely lady Liana and I can hardly wait until December when we’re going to fly out to Florida to meet her for the first time. Thank you. and God bless you. and thanks so much to each of you for your value for value support. Today, you know how to warm a man’s heart. I appreciate each of you. Beloved, many of the donations that have come in over the past few days have been longtime listeners in first time donors, these donations will certainly help to keep Lifespringmedia.com and the over 3000 episodes online into the future. I’ll keep them there for as long as I can. As you’ve heard in the notes from some of these generous Lifespring family members, some people found the show early some later. So keeping the episodes up means that others will be able to find them too. We talked a couple of days ago about the fact that God sometimes orchestrates the events of our lives so that things come into our lives at just the right time. and I believe that he’ll bring new people do these episodes at just the right time for them. So your donations make you a part of the Ministry of Lifespring media. How cool is that? I’m so grateful. and as I’ve said many times before, I believe that God will bless you. Now if you’ve not yet made a value for value donation, I only ask that you pray and ask the Lord what he would have you do, and then go over to this website Lifespringmedia.com slash supports. Well, thank you. Those who hear these episodes in the future will thank you. and I believe God will bless you. Steve Webb 12:25Chase Jacobson sent in this note, he said, I want to email you and say thank you. I heard about your podcast a year ago on no agenda, Adam Curry and John C Dvorak 12:34no agenda, boost boost boost to get boosted boost. Steve Webb 12:39and I haven’t missed an episode this season. You’re the first thing I listened to. and I like to play it while I drive my kids to daycare. Well, hey, what a great way to start the day for you and for them. Jay says I want you to know that you have made an impact on my life this year. and I thank you very much for that. Thanks, Jase. I know I’m too late for your prayer segment. But I want you to know that I pray for your peace, your happiness and your prosperity into the future. Thank you chase. I will miss your voice in the mornings but with the Lord signs, I agree that you can step back, I will be finding another season to start up to continue listening to the Lord’s word. Also, I have an aside, I wanted to share a couple of artists and songs that are pretty new and that you might not have heard of but are almost mainstream singing the good news. In new country. There is a lot of artists who sing about God and Jesus. I don’t know if they’re genuine, but if half their audience believes it. That’s a good thing. I think. Well, I agree with you chase. These next songs and artists I think are genuine Cody Johnson being one of my all time favorites. So here’s his list. Grace by Cody Johnson, this time around by Gary Nichols to be a man by DAX God’s Eyes by DAX where I find God by Larry fleet, CB radio by muscadine bloodline. That’s a great song muscadine bloodline. Let’s see next is saved me now by Jelly Roll. Need a favor by Jelly Roll. Chase says I want to show there is some new music coming out that is popular and for the most part a positive message. Thanks for that list. Chase. I will check these out for sure. and thanks for your note. I’m so glad to have had you in the Lifespring family this year, brother. Thank you. and your note also gives me the perfect opportunity to talk about what I might be doing for the next Lifespring podcast. If you’re a longtime Lifespring family member, you probably remember that I interviewed many Christian artists on the original Lifespring podcast. God has given me many opportunities to meet and get to know some of the Christian artists that have had quite a lot of success. Dove Awards, Grammy Awards, gold records, some of them who are real groundbreakers in the contemporary Christian music arena. and one of the things that truly flabbergasted me is how the music industry works in terms of royalties. Artists have not traditionally seen much of them. Money that their music earns. A great deal of it goes to the labels. and in the new world of streaming, what doesn’t go to the labels goes to the streaming services, very little actually flows to the artists. Well, Adam curry, Dave Jones and the others in the podcasting 2.0 community are doing something about that, as a sort of a next step to streaming SATs and boosting Satoshis to podcasts, they’ve launched a way to do that for music. They’re developing a way for you to send SATs directly to the artist when you hear a song you like on a podcast. So while you’re listening to the music, when you send a boost, or Boostagram, or if you’re streaming SATs, those SATs go directly to the artist. It’s fantastic. Now, it’s still in its infancy. But there are now about 1000 Music enabled podcasts or artists that are doing this. and after I take a bit of a rest from this show, there’s a good chance that I’m going to be creating a sort of Lifespring music 2.0 version of the show that I used to do. and by the way, the Lifespringmedia.com podcast is still at Lifespring media I did I think about 100 episodes of that. and if I say so myself, those are still good shows to listen to. So if I can find enough good Christian music that is enabled for this new thing, I will do the show. The difficulty right now is that the music websites that have these value for value enabled songs don’t list the genres of their music. So that makes it hard to find the kind of music you’re looking for. If you’re one of the music podcasters that wants to get into this, you have to kind of go through all the songs to find songs that you like. and since I want to do primarily Christian music, it’s even harder because you really have to listen hard to the lyrics. and as you know, sometimes lyrics are not all that easy to understand when you’re listening. Well, I’ve talked to Adam curry about this. and he agrees with me that categorizing by genre needs to be done. He’s even suggested that I should be the guy to get that started. Well, I’ll be talking to my friend Ron Plouffe this weekend, and we’re going to knock some ideas around. To be honest, I don’t even know where to begin to get this started. But I’m willing, one of the things I’ll be doing is to talk to some of the artists that I’ve already interviewed to see if they have some music, that they own all the rights to music that isn’t owned by the labels, it would thrill my heart if I could help these guys earn money directly from their fans, instead of to just take the crumbs that the labels give them or the streaming services. I’d love to help them get their music value for value enabled. Wouldn’t it be great? Would you boost a show or stream SATs to a show if you knew that when that music came on the SATs would go directly to the artists? The way it works is this when the song begins, all of us ads are immediately switched from the podcaster to the artist. How cool is that? So I’m going to try to get some of the old artists to jump in on this. But I’m also going to be looking for new artists as well. Email me to tell me if this is something you’d be willing to do. Adam believes and I agree with him that this can truly revolutionize the music industry. Psalms 149-150: The Ultimate Encore

Transcript Today’s Bible Translation Bible translation used in today’s episode: Ch. 149-150 NCV Associate Producer Daniel Torrelio, James in Norway Podcast Introduction Today is Psalms Wednesday. We’ll close this, the longest book of the Bible with chapters 149-150, and we’ll have our last prayer time together. I’m calling this episode “The Ultimate Encore.“ Design: Jason Paschall | Photo: Cason Asher on Unsplash Summary Chapters 149 and 150 are part of the Hallelujah Psalms, beginning and ending with praises to the Lord. Psalm 149, like the other Hallelujah Psalms, lacks a specific title. It’s a celebration of the joyful connection between God and His people, radiating the excitement of praising God together. Psalm 150, the last in the book, offers a fitting conclusion with its exuberant praise. It invites all of creation to worship the Creator. This echoes the scenes of worship in the book of Revelation. In Revelation, we glimpse heaven’s worship, where countless beings from all nations and languages honor God. Imagine a concert’s finale, but on an unimaginable scale, where God’s restoration brings endless celebration. With eternity at our disposal, we can worship and rejoice without end. The closing Psalms offer a taste of the grand celebration awaiting us in God’s presence. We’ll declare, “Holy is the Lamb. Hallelujah! Great is the King of kings and Lord of lords!” It’s a vision of eternal worship and awe in the presence of the Almighty. Listen to the episode for more! My name is Steve Webb. I’m your OG Godcaster. Today is Psalms Wednesday, our last Psalms Wednesday, we’ll close this the longest book of the Bible with chapters 149 and 150. We’ll also have our last time of prayer together. The website is Lifespringmedia.com. and I’ll have contact information at the end of today’s show over there Lifespringmedia.com There are over 3000 episodes waiting for you to discover. Before we read, let’s pray. Our Heavenly Father, we thank you so much for your word, and we thank you for the richness in the blessing of the Psalms. As we close out that book today. I pray you would touch our hearts. We pray this in Jesus name. Amen. All right, are you ready? Let’s begin. Steve Webb 0:57Remember, I told you last week that the last five psalms are known as the Hallelujah Psalms, each one begins and ends with either the words hallelujah or praise the Lord, like the others in this group of five Psalm 149 is given no title. Steve Webb 1:14Psalms chapter 149. Praise the Lord, sing a new song to the Lord sing his praise in the meeting of his people. Let the Israelites be happy because of God their maker. Let the people of Jerusalem rejoice because of their king. They should praise him with dancing. They should sing praises to Him with tambourines and harps. The Lord is pleased with his people, he saves the humble. Let those who worship Him rejoice in his glory. Let them sing for joy even in bed. Let them shout his praise with their two edged swords in their hands. They will punish the nations that defeat the people. They will put those kings in chains in those important men and iron bands. They will punish them as God is written. God is honored by all who worship Him, praise the Lord. Steve Webb 2:05Psalm 150 is the final Psalm in the book of Psalms which itself has five sections or divisions. The first division ends with Psalm 41. The second with Psalm 72, the third with Psalm 89. The fourth was Psalm 106. and now we end with Psalm 150, which closes the fifth division and indeed, the entire book. Each of the five divisions in with a doxology or an expression of faith in Psalm 150 tops them all. It is truly a fitting way to close this most precious book. Commentator Alexander McLaren wrote, The 150th Psalm is more than an artistic close of the Psalter. It is a prophecy of the last result of the devout life and in its unclouded sunniness, as well as in its universality. It proclaims the certain end of the weary years for the individual and for the world. Steve Webb 3:03Psalms chapter 150. Praise the Lord. Praise God in his temple. Praise Him in His mighty heaven. Praise him for his strength, praise him for his greatness. Praise him with trumpet blasts, praise him with harps and liars. Praise him with tambourines and dancing. Praise him with stringed instruments and flutes, praise him with loud cymbals. Praise him with crashing cymbals. Let everything that breathes praise the Lord, praise the Lord. Steve Webb 3:33Beloved, what is your idea of what heaven is like? What do you think we’ll be doing? Of course, we really have no way of knowing everything. But the Bible gives us some idea of at least part of what life will be like. As we recently read in the book of Revelation, chapter five, verse 13, John tells us, then I heard all creatures in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and in the sea, saying to the one who sits on the throne, and to the land be praise and honor and glory and power forever and ever. and in Revelation seven, verses nine and 10, there was a great number of people John wrote, so many that no one could count them. They were from every nation, tribe, people and language of the earth. They were all standing before the throne and before the Lamb wearing white robes and holding palm branches in their hands. They were shouting in a loud voice. Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne and to the Lamb. Revelation 19 five through eight says, then a voice came from the throne saying, praise our God, all you who serve Him and all you who honor him both small and great. Then I heard what sounded like a great many people, like the noise of flooding water, and like the noise of loud thunder. The people were saying, Hallelujah, our Lord God the Almighty rules, let us rejoice and be happy and give God glory. Because the wedding of the Lamb has come, and the lambs bride has made herself ready, fine linen, bright and clean was given to her to wear. Beloved, I think we’re going to be spending a great deal of time praising God the Father, God, the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Have you ever been to a concert where one of your favorite bands or musicians played? My son Stephen and his wife recently took the lovely lady Liana nice to see Norah Jones at the Greek theatre in LA a beautiful outdoor venue. It was a great show. and what do you think happened at the end of the show? Sure. Everybody’s stood up and applauded. Well, Nora and her band took their bows and left the stage while the applause continued. and after this went on for several minutes, guess what? Nora in the band came back out to do an encore. and of course, their entrance was met with even more applause and cheering. Now, imagine, at the end of time as we know it when everything here is wrapped up, and God has made all things right. He’s wiped every tear. and the enemy has been finally and eternally sent to his final destination, never to bring heartbreak and havoc again. Don’t you think we’ll all just break out in praise and celebration of the Lamb. and since we’ll have eternity to do it, it won’t be a problem to spend 1000 years or even 10,000 years singing Hallelujah is and rejoicing at what he has done. Today’s closing chapters of Psalms were just a small warm up for what awaits us when we see God face to face. Holy, holy, holy is the Lamb. Hallelujah, great is He Who is the King of kings and Lord of lords. I’d like to hear from you. What did you think about the Psalms this year? Have they been a blessing to you as they have been to me, let me know send to Boostagram or call the Lifespring family hotline or go to the comments page or write an email. I’ll tell you how to do those things at the end of the show. Tomorrow will be poetry Thursday, and we’ll close that section of the Bible with chapters seven and eight of the Song of Solomon. Steve Webb 7:10Beloved, the Lifespring One Year Bible has never accepted nor sought any kind of outside advertising. The only support has come from the Lifespring family. I know that you want to hear God’s word with no compromise. You want to know that the message is not watered down or changed just to placate those who don’t want to hear what the Bible teaches. I think that over the years I’ve been faithful in that, when the tough issues have come up. I’ve told you what God says about them. and I think I’ve done it in such a way that communicated his love his holy nature and his justice. Some people didn’t like the message and they stopped listening. That breaks my heart. But some people don’t want to hear the truth. But you’re still here. Praise the Lord for that. To those of you who have supported the show with time, talent or treasure, thank you. Every gift. Every donation has encouraged me to keep going. Doing a seven day a week show is a little bit like running a marathon. At the beginning of the race. There is a lot of adrenaline. It’s exciting. But as the race wears on, it can be a slog. It’s grueling. You just have to keep putting one foot in front of the other no matter what. and along the way you grab whatever refreshment you can. Beloved, your prayers, your emails, your comments, your Boostagram is your streaming, SATs, your donations of time and talent. All of these have helped to keep me going. I’ll always be grateful for each one of you. After today’s episode, there are just three episodes remaining. This is the last season. If you’ve received any value from the daily reading of God’s word, I would truly appreciate your value for value. Thank you for the show. Your donation now will help me keep the more than 3000 episodes online at Lifespringmedia.com into the future so that you and others will be able to enjoy him. My plan is to keep the website alive for as long as possible. But just like everything else in life that costs money, your donation no matter the size will help me do that. Now right now I want to thank today’s associate producer James in Norway who came in with his monthly $20 donation. Thank you so much, James, God bless you, my brother, and anonymous sent in a $33.33 cent donation in memory of PG Chris, and they sent a prayer request in with that which we’ll talk about in a moment. Thank you anonymous and God bless you. and Daniel Torrelio came in with $150. In this note, thank you for helping me become a better Christian. It was no agenda who helped me realize I was focusing my faith in the wrong place. I know that’s not the goal of the show, but that’s what happened. It was your donation last year that spoke directly to me. You brought me closer to Christ through the daily reading. I have lots more work to do. May God bless you now and forever. Well, oh my goodness, Daniel, thank you. Yeah, I love the no agenda show too. and Adam and John’s approach to media deconstruction, as they call it really does help to put current events in perspective. But it’s most important in all that to remember that God is still on the throne and no human on the planet is going to fix things. Our faith has to remain in the Lord. and Daniel as far as having lots more work to do. Join the club, my brother, each of us is a work in progress. But we have this promise from Philippians one six, and I am sure of this, that He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. Amen. Daniel. Amen. Thank you so much for your donation. Daniel. God bless you Steve Webb 10:48Lifespringmedia.com/support Steve Webb 10:53Beloved, this is our last time to pray together here on the show. I have loved our times of praising God for His goodness this year to so many in the Lifespring family and I have been honored to pray with you in for you. Thank you for sharing with the Lifespring family. Okay, now we have several prayer requests today. Here is anonymous, his prayer request that we mentioned a few minutes ago, anonymous wrote Steve this is a request for prayers in remembrance of former no agenda social member PG Chris. Her brother PG Kelly wrote a tribute to her and I think the first two paragraphs help us to know Chris better. Here they are. So this part is what PG Chris’s brother PG Kelly wrote. Recently I lost my sister Chris. She passed unexpectedly on August 11. After hip surgery. Many of you know her as PG Chris, a name she adopted from her email address, as well as being known in Pacific Grove as Chris Pacific Grove. PGx. You get that part? Okay. She was he continues, she was a member of shine a local small church in Monterey, California. She spent 10 years working at the Carmel mission and was a photographer of the kids that hung around downtown Monterey. Her artwork was featured around the Monterey area, and she took care of these kids as if they were her own and watched over them in return for being photographed. Chris did some work for her friend art, who had a show on public access TV, and was credited as PG Chris. Prior to this, we grew up in Southern California. Chris studied acting in Hollywood at Lee Strasberg acting Academy alongside Ed Begley Jr. When the school was located on Hollywood Boulevard. We would frequent the original farmer’s market where she worked as a teen Paramount Studios together many visits to Disneyland and Knott’s Berry Farm. She even worked at home savings and loan for my father. and he says Home savings alone is now Chase Bank. She banked at Chase Bank, the block my dad bought and turned over to Howard Amundsen to build their landmark bank on the corner of sunset and Vine. She was a true Hollywood brat. Her work continued with Hoag Hospital, Woodbridge walking in Irvine and Irvine Medical Center in Orange County. She worked at buffets department store and Harriman Jones clinic in Long Beach. The best of all, we grew up on the peninsula in Long Beach right on the sand. Chris found Christianity back in the early 70s, along with her cousin Debbie, both became born again. Chris was a loyal follower of Christ, she made sure all her T’s were crossed and all her eyes were dotted every minute of every day. She did not miss a beat. We did daily readings together as well as attending church services and functions. So that’s what PG Kelly said about his sister. and thanks anonymous for sharing that as a Southern California native, I’m familiar with just about all those places, and I’ve been to most of them. As a matter of fact, our son Steven was a patient at Irvine Medical Center after his terrible illness. and then LeeAnn’s grandparents lived in Long Beach for decades until they went home to be with the Lord. Sounds like Chris was a great lady. I’m so glad to know that she loved the Lord and it makes saying goodbye a lot easier when we know that we will pray for her family. and then a different anonymous set this in. Number one, I appreciate your devotion to the one year Bible even though I only started this season. I plan to go back as it has brought a lot of learning for me even though I am a longtime Christian, although sometimes not a great one. So thank you. Number two, prayers for my friend Matt in his family as they have been enduring a terrible tragedy. Number three, prayer from my friend Mark who was the cause of the terrible tragedy. I pray that Mark can find salvation. and then anonymous continues I guess praise report for you helping me get better acquainted with God’s word. I’ve tried to read the Bible and have failed but this format has helped me immensely. Thank you and keep up the good fight. Well, anonymous, thank you for sending that nodia and we will be praying. Next, James in Norway sent this in. Hi, Steve. praise report. I got a note from my dad today he writes, Apple Watch reported 5% AFib events last week, which was to be expected given how busy I was. overall feeling great. James in Norway says Dad is definitely on the mend, and he put his smiling emoji. and then James says thanks for leading us in prayer over the past years, Steve, on that note, some of us will need to lead ourselves in prayer now seeing is how the podcast will be retired in a few days. Would you mind giving us a quick Steve’s Practical Guide to quiet time with the Lord? Well, James, I will do that, though not on this episode. I will probably do that on Friday show. How’s that? and then James says more praise. Thank God for telling you to do this podcast. By the end of the week. I’ll have read the entire Bible for the first time. Next week. I’ll start reading it for the second time with a great big smiley emoji. I’m glad to hear that James. and then he continues I’ll be leaving my monthly donation active in the hope that it’ll keep the back catalogue available for many years to come. Well, thank you for that, James very much. That’s very kind of you. God bless you for that. and then James signs off with this. Enjoying your retirement hobby. and greetings to the lovely lady Leanne, and hurray for Jesus. Yes, hurray for Jesus. Indeed. Thank you, James. He says PS I thought he was signing off P S. What was the name of that other Lifespring media feed that we could point our podcasters at in case you publish a show now and then now thanks for asking James. It’s called Lifespring. All shows. If you subscribe to that Lifespring. All shows, any show that I produce in the future will show up there. Thank you again for asking. And then this one came in from Lily of the Valley. He said, Steve, hopefully this makes it in under the wire. Would you please pray for my wife, Lily. She is struggling with depression. Please use my online handle Lily the valley in the show. God bless. and then he signed his name. So yes, Lily, the valley your request did did just make it in as as matter of fact, it came in at two minutes past the deadline. But we believe in grace around here, don’t we? Seriously though, I am sorry to hear about your wife’s depression. That’s certainly no laughing matter. We’ll add her to the list. and thank you, Lily of the Valley for sending it in. and then Roy from Poland asked for prayer for his family. There were no other details. But of course, the Lord knows them. and that’s really all that matters, isn’t it? So yes, Roy, we will add your family to the prayer list. and then one more. I’ve mentioned my friend Mark on the show a few times this season. Mark has been in my life since I was about eight years old when we were on our city’s swim team. We’ve been there for each other all these years. So that’s about 61 years now. Mark married Karen in 1976. If I remember right, now get this she lived literally directly across the street from Mark when they were growing up. So they’ve known each other their entire lives. How amazing is that? They’re both wonderful people. and Mark told me today that Karen was concerned about a mole on her thigh. Well, it turns out that the Mole was a melanoma. They did surgery to remove it, I think just this past week, and they found that the melanoma has spread beyond the mall. So now they’re going to have to do further tests and biopsies to see if it has spread to any of the lymph glands, or any other parts of her body. Melanoma, as you probably know, can be a very aggressive, deadly cancer. So as we pray today, please do remember Karen and the others in our prayer requests list in your own prayer time. Okay, so let’s pray. Our heavenly Father, Lord, we do praise you, we worship you. We lift up your name, the name above all names, you are worthy, You’re mighty, you are our Savior, our shield, our strength, our rock, our provider, there is none like you. Hallelujah. We praise you, Lord. and we look forward to the day when we will see you and join our voices with all of creation to sing your praises. Father, we thank you for Chris for the fact that she knew you and for the life that she shared with so many people. We pray for those that she knew. We pray for her family and friends and those whose lives she touched. We pray that they would remember the special times that they shared with Chris, and that Chris’s relationship with you would encourage them to know you too. We pray for her brother Kelly Lord, I know that he misses her and I pray that you would comfort him. and now Lord, we pray for anonymous his friend Matt in his family. Lord, you know what the trash God is and we lift them up to you. and ask that you show yourself even through the pain. Help them Lord, we pray that the Holy Spirit would comfort them, strengthen them, and draw them to you. Fill them with your peace father. and we lift up anonymous, his friend Mark to you, the one that anonymous says caused the tragedy that Matt and his family are experiencing. We pray that you would bring someone into Mark’s life that will point the way to Jesus. Help mark to find a way to you, Lord, to a relationship with you. Show mark that in you is forgiveness in wholeness. and I thank you for bringing anonymous to this podcast. I pray that you would continue to teach him through your word, Lord. We thank you now for the good AFib report from James’s Dad, thank you for continuing the healing in his heart. We just asked you to continue that as you have in mind. and we thank You, Lord, for bringing James to the Lifespring family. He’s been an encouragement to me and I pray that you will bless him. Father, we now lift Lily up to you who was suffering with depression. Lord for us, this can be a hard thing to deal with. But for you all it takes is your touch your word, we pray that you would fill Lily’s heart with your peace and your joy. We pray that the Holy Spirit would be with her in a very special and powerful way. He is called the comforter in Scripture. That’s one of his ministries to believers. So we asked him to comfort and encourage Lily now, help her to see how much you love her and even cherish her. You made her you formed her, you have a purpose for her. We pray that you would show that to her, we pray that you would lift her depression now. and now Father, we pray for Roy in Poland and his family. We have no idea what’s going on in Roy’s family, but you do. and we pray that you would be there for them. Whatever it is, you can bring healing of hearts and relationships. You created the family and you are the ultimate healer of families. So we ask you to work in Roy’s family in your own loving and perfect way. and Father we pray now for Karen and Mark. We pray that the doctors are wrong about the melanoma having spread beyond the mole that if they’re not wrong about that, we pray you to stop the cancer now and remove it from her body. We pray that you would heal her miraculously or through the hands of the doctors, we pray that there would be no place for this disease in her body. Mark tells me it’s going to be almost two weeks before they have any word from the doctors on some tests that they’ve already taken. and we pray that you would calm Karen and marks hearts and minds. Let them find rest in comfort in you, Lord, they love you. Be with him now as they look to you. and father again, I thank you for each Lifespring family member. You brought them here. and I thank you for answering our prayers to teach us as we read. These people have been such a blessing to me, Lord, and I’m grateful. I pray that You would bless them, Lord, we pray this in Jesus name. Amen. Well, beloved, it has been such a privilege this year to pray with you and for you. Thank you for praying with me and for me this season. I will miss this time for sure. God bless each of you. Please remember to keep those we’ve prayed for today in your own prayers. Lift them up to the Lord as you think of them throughout the days. In 2004, I learned about the brand new technology of podcasting when I tuned into a radio show, seemingly by chance. But I believe it was the hand of God. Following His call, I created the world’s first Christian podcast. This led to many unexpected opportunities and blessings. It all began on a fateful day in September 2004. Yes, God orders events in our lives to fulfill His plans. Listen to the episode for more! On that night, the king could not sleep, and he gave orders to bring the book of memorable deeds, the Chronicles and they were read before the king. and it was found written how Mordecai had told about big dinner in tea rush two of the kings Unix who guarded the threshold, and who had sought to lay hands on King Ahaz, you heiress. and the king said, What honor or distinction has been bestowed on Mordecai for this. The King’s young men who attended him said, nothing has been done for him. and the king said, Who is in the court? Now Haman had just entered the outer court of the king’s palace to speak to the king about having Mordecai hanged on the gallows that he had prepared for him. and the king’s young men told him, Haman is there standing in the court? and the king said, let him come in. So Haman came in and the king said to him, what should be done to the man whom the king delights to honor? and Haman said to himself, who would the king delight to honor more than me? and Haman said to the king, for the man whom the king delights to honor, let royal robes be brought, which the king has worn, and the horse that the king has written, and on whose head a royal crown is set, and let the robes and the horse be handed over to one of the king’s most noble officials. Let them dress the man whom the king delights to honor and let them lead him on the horse through the square of the city proclaiming before him. Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delights to honor. Then the king said to Haman, Hurry, take the robes in the horse, as you have said, and do so to Mordecai, the Jew who sits at the king’s gate, leave out nothing that you have mentioned. So Haman took the robes in the horse, and he dressed Mordecai and led him through the square of the city proclaiming before him. Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delights to honor. Then Mordecai returned to the king’s gate, but Haman hurried to his house morning and with his head covered, and Haman told his wife Zeresh, and all his friends everything that had happened to him, then his wise men and his wife Zeresh said to him, If Mordecai before whom you had begun to fall is of the Jewish people, you will not overcome him but will surely fall before him. While they were yet talking with him, the Kings Unix arrived in hurry to bring Haman to the feast that Esther had prepared. Steve Webb 3:12Esther chapter seven. So the king and Haman went into feast with Queen Esther. and on the second day, as they were drinking wine after the feast, the king again said to Esther, what is your wish? Queen Esther, it shall be granted to you, and what is your request, even to the half of my kingdom it shall be fulfilled. Then Queen Esther answered, If I have found favor in your side, oh king, and if it please the king, let my life be granted me for my wish, and my people for my request, for we have been sold I and my people to be destroyed, to be killed and to be annihilated. If we had been sold merely as slaves, men and women, I would have been silent for our affliction is not to be compared with the loss to the king. Then King has you were said to Queen Esther, who is he? and where is he who has dared to do this? and Esther said, a fool and enemy this wicked Haman. Then Haman was terrified before the king and the queen. and the king arose in his wrath from the wind drinking in went into the palace garden. But Haman stayed to beg for his life from Queen Esther, for he saw that harm was determined against him by the king. and the king returned from the palace garden to the place where they were drinking wine. As Haman was falling on the couch where Esther was, and the king said, will he even assault the queen in my presence in my own house, as the word left the mouth of the king they covered Heymans face. Then her Bono, one of the units and attendants on the king said, moreover, the gallows that Haman is prepared for Mordecai, whose word saved the king is standing at Hammonds house 50 cubits high. and the king said, Hang him on that. So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai, then the wrap Have the king abated. Steve Webb 5:02Esther chapter eight. On that same day King Xerxes gave the property of Haman, the enemy of the Jews to Queen Esther. Then Mordecai was brought before the king for Esther had told the king how they were related. The king took off his signet ring, which he had taken back from Haman and gave it to Mordecai. and Esther appointed Mordecai to be in charge of Heymans property. Then Esther went again before the king falling down at his feet and begging him with tears to stop the evil plot devised by him in the aggregate against the Jews. Again, the king held out the gold sector to Esther. So she rose and stood before him. Esther said, If it pleases the king, if I have found favor with him, and if he thinks it is right, and if I am pleasing to Him, let there be a decree that reverses the orders of Haman, son of him a date of the aggregate, who ordered the Jews throughout all the kings provinces should be destroyed, for how can I endure to see my people and my family slaughtered and destroyed. Then King Xerxes said to Queen Esther and Mordecai the Jew, I have given Esther the property of Haman. and he has been impaled on a pole because he tried to destroy the Jews. Now go ahead and send a message to the Jews in the king’s name, telling them whatever you want, and seal it with the king’s signet ring. But remember that whatever has already been written in the king’s name, and sealed with his signet ring can never be revoked. So on June 25, the king secretaries were summoned, and a decree was written exactly as Mordecai dictated, it was sent to the Jews into the highest officers, the governors and the nobles of all the 127 provinces stretching from India to Ethiopia. The decree was written in the scripts and languages of all the peoples of the empire, including that of the Jews. The decree was written in the name of King Xerxes and sealed with a king signet ring. Mordecai sent the dispatches by swift messengers, who rode fast horses, especially bread for the Kings service. The King’s decree gave the Jews in every city authority to unite to defend their lives. They were allowed to Kill, slaughter and annihilate anyone of any nationality or province, who might attack them or their children and wives, and to take the property of their enemies. The day chosen for this event throughout all the provinces of Kings Xerxes was March 7 of the next year. A copy of this decree was to be issued as law in every province and proclaimed to all peoples so that the Jews would be ready to take revenge on their enemies on the appointed day. So urged on by the kings command, the messengers rolled out swiftly and fast horses bred for the king’s service. The same decree was also proclaimed in the fortress of Susa. Then Mordecai left the king’s presence, wearing the royal robe of blue and white, the great crown of gold, and an outer cloak of fine linen and purple, and the people of Susa celebrated the new decree. The Jews were filled with joy and gladness and were honored everywhere. In every province and city. Wherever the king’s decree arrived, the Jews rejoiced and had a great celebration and declared a public festival and holiday. and many of the people of the land became Jews themselves, for they feared what the Jews might do to them. Steve Webb 8:23Esther chapter nine. On the 13th day of the 12th month, the month of a dar, the edict commanded by the king was to be carried out. On this day the enemies of the Jews had hoped to overpower them. But now the tables were turned in the Jews got the upper hand over those who hated them. The Jews assembled in their cities and all the provinces of King Xerxes to attack those determined to destroy them. No one could stand against them, because the people of all the other nationalities were afraid of them. and all the nobles of the provinces the satraps, the governors and the kings administrators helped the Jews because fear of Mordecai had seized them. Mordecai was prominent in the palace. His reputation spread throughout the provinces and he became more and more powerful. The Jews struck down all their enemies with a sword, killing and destroying them, and they did what they pleased to those who hated them. In the citadel of Judah, the Jews killed and destroyed 500 men. They also killed par Chanda delfont as paisa for raitha. A Daliah era data for Masta era SCI era die and via the 10 Sons of Haman son of hammer data, the enemy of the Jews, but they did not lay their hands on the plunder. The number of those killed in the citadel of Susa was reported to the king that same day, the king said to Queen Esther, the Jews have killed and destroyed 500 Men and The 10 Sons of Haman in the citadel of Susa. What have they done in the rest of the kings provinces? Now what is your petition? It will be given to you what is your request? If it will also be granted if it pleases the king Esther answered, give the Jews in Susa permission to carry out this day’s edict tomorrow also, and let Heymans 10 sons be impaled on poles. So the king commanded that this be done. and edict was issued in Susa, and they impaled the 10 Sons of Haman, the Jews in Susa came together on the 14th day of the month of a dar, and they put to death in Susa 300 men but they did not lay their hands on the plunder. Meanwhile, the remainder of the Jews who are in the Kings provinces also assembled to protect themselves and get relief from their enemies. They killed 75,000 of them but did not lay their hands on the plunder. This happened on the 13th day of the month of a dar and on the 14th they rested in made it a day of feasting and joy. The Jews in Susa, however, had assembled on the 13th and 14th. and then on the 15th day they rested and made it a day of feasting and joy. That is why rural Jews those living in villages, observed the 14th of the month of a dar is a day of joy and feasting a day for giving presents to each other. Mordecai recorded these events and he sent letters to all the Jews throughout the provinces of King Xerxes near and far to have them celebrate annually. The 14th and 15th day of the month of Vadar is the time when the Jews got relief from their enemies. and as the month when their sorrow was turned to joy, and their mourning into a day of celebration. He wrote them to observe the days as days of feasting and joy and giving of presents of food to one another and gifts to the poor. So the Jews agreed to continue the celebration they had begun doing what Mordecai had written to them. For Haman, son of ama data, the aggregate, the enemy of all the Jews, had plotted against the Jews to destroy them, and had cast the pier that is the lot for their ruin and destruction. But when the plot came to the kings attention, he issued written orders that the evil scheme Haman had devised against the Jews should come back onto his own head, and that he and his sons should be impaled on poles. Therefore these days were called Pure him from the word pure, because of everything written in this letter, and because of what they had seen, and what had happened to them, the Jews took it upon themselves to establish the custom that they and their descendants, and all who joined them should without fail, observe these two days every year in the way prescribed, and at the time appointed. These days should be remembered and observed in every generation, by every family, and in every province and in every city. and these days of pure him should never fail to be celebrated by the Jews. Nor should the memory of these days die out among their descendants. So Queen Esther, daughter of Abba Hale along with Mordecai, the Jew, wrote with full authority to confirm this second letter concerning purine. and Mordecai sent letters to all the Jews in the 127 provinces of Xerxes kingdom, words of goodwill and assurance to establish these days of pure I’m at their designated times as Mordecai, the Jew and Queen Esther had decreed for them and as they had established for themselves and their descendants in regard to their times of fasting and lamentation. estrous decree confirmed these regulations about PRM and it was written down in the records Steve Webb 13:22Esther chapter 10. In Kenya has us imposed tribute on the land and on the islands of the sea. Now all the acts of His power and His might, in the account of the greatness of Mordecai, to which the king advanced him, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of media in Persia? For Mordecai, the Jew was second to King a has you eres, and was great among the Jews and well received by the multitude of his brethren, seeking the good of his people, and speaking peace to all his countrymen. Steve Webb 13:55Beloved, I have a question for you. Do you believe that God orders the events in the lives of people to accomplish his plans? There are some people who believe that once God finished His work of creation, he stepped away, took his hands off, and let events on earth happen on their own. To me, that seems sort of foolish, but that’s what some people think. Well, here in estar, we have an example of how God does orchestrate the events of man for his purposes. The king was unable to sleep on the very night that Haman was plotting to kill Mordecai. So the king does what many of us do, he decided to read a book hoping that that’ll make him sleepy. Think of it has awareness is the king of the most powerful kingdom on earth. So he could have done almost anything for a diversion. But he chose to read a book. He orders that a book of remembrance is be brought to him. Now he had a kingdom of 127 provinces so I can imagine that this book of remembrance is probably had several volumes, can’t you? But the person who was tasked with bringing the book brought the volume that included the account of how Mordecai saved the king from assassination. and the servant opened the book to the very page with that record. What are the odds? Well with God, the odds are 100%. Without God, who knows? There had to have been many remembrances in that book. But on this specific night, this specific page was opened. Coincidence? I think not. Do you believe that God orders events in the lives of people to accomplish his plans? Of course he does. Has God ever intervened in your life like this? Can you remember a time where the course of your life was changed by a seemingly random event? Let me tell you about a time this happened to me. and some of you know this story. But it happened in 2004. It was a Saturday in September, I think it was. and I turned on the radio to listen to a talk show about technology. This was normally a callin type show where people would ask the host for help with their tech devices. But when I turned on the radio, the host was interviewing a guy. and the guy was telling the host about this new thing he had vented where radio type shows would be automatically downloaded to people’s computers. and better still, every time a new show was created. The new episodes would just show up on their computers, and then they could transfer the new shows onto their portable mp3 player, and they could listen to them whenever they want it. Well, this idea sounded pretty interesting to me having been in radio in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Of course, this new invention was podcasting. The interviewer was Leo Laporte, and the interviewee was Adam curry, whom I am now happy to not only call my friend, but ecstatic to call my brother in the Lord. But that’s a different story. Well, just a week before I heard this interview, I had asked God, what more I could do to serve him. I was already the tech guy at my church and putting in a lot of time in that. But I wanted to do more for God’s since he had been so very good to me and had blessed me with a wonderful wife, great kids, a business that paid the bills, and a home. I just wanted to be available to do whatever God had for me. I prayed and I asked God, what more I could do. and his answer was a very clear almost audible proclaim My name. So was it just a random event when I heard Adam curry telling Leo Laporte about podcasting? I don’t think so. God prompted me to turn on that radio at just the right time. and on November 13 2004, I uploaded the world’s first Christian podcast to my church’s website. and within days, I received emails from around the world telling me stories of how God was using my podcast to bring them to Jesus. God was using my little podcast in miraculous ways. But the story doesn’t end there. From that first podcast that I called Lifespring. I created several other podcasts, one of which was the Lifespring family Audio Bible. and because of that show, a person asked me to record the entire Douay-Rheims Bible. and because of that project, I wrote Webb ZZ Bible names Pronunciation Guide, which was published in 2012. and it’s helped many, many people as they study and teach and preach God’s word. and also because of podcasting, I’ve got a career doing voiceovers for radio and TV commercials and videos for companies around the world and church videos and so much more. Something I never would have dreamed would happen. My life was changed when God orchestrated events on that September Saturday in 2004. Do you believe that God orders events in the lives of people to accomplish his plans? I sure do. Have you seen God’s hand in the events of your life? Let me know about it. Tell me how do you do that? Well send a Boostagram or call the Lifespring family hotline or go to the comments page or write an email. How do you do any of those things? I’ll tell you in a few minutes. Tomorrow will be Psalms Wednesday, we’ll close this the longest book of the Bible with chapters 149 and 150. and we’ll have our last prayer time together. Be sure to have your praise report or prayer request in by five o’clock Pacific time today to be included. Steve Webb 19:26James Garner came in today with $40 With this note, he said, “Hello. I was going to wait until later to do this but my life with four kids and multiple renovations that are ongoing by a team of one me tells me that I will not get this done unless I sit down and write this on a break right now. Your podcast is going to get me to complete the one of many new year’s resolutions that I actually stuck with. I wanted to get through the Bible by January 1 and as of next week, I will have done it been to church on and off my whole life but never actually dove into it. So it turns out I pretty much knew all of the information. So I have read more than I thought I had only a few surprises came up. So for getting me to my goal, I’m throwing in a few shekels your way. I found value in that. Well, thank you, James. He said, Now since you’re giving up the reins, I would request a recommendation. I want to go through it again. But I would not mind going through whole books straight and not jumping around. I would also like a more in depth analysis and or insight to the readings. If you know of such a thing. I would gladly like to give it a try.” Okay, I’ll stop reading James’ note for just a moment right here to respond. Now, James, you probably won’t be surprised by this. But with producing this show for so many years, I really haven’t had a chance to listen to other Bible reading podcasts. I know there are many, but I can’t personally recommend any specific ones. Since I’ve not listened to them. I can’t personally vouch for their doctrinal accuracy. I’m sure there’s probably some great ones. I just don’t have personal experience with them. But on Saturdays closing show I will have a Christian podcast recommendation. It isn’t a Bible reading podcast, but one that I do listen to twice a week. and as soon as I see a new episode in my podcast app, I hit play. I’ll tell you more about it this Saturday. Okay, getting back now to James’s note. He said, “Also, the big thing I’m still hung up on is basically the Trinity part. We have one group of people Jewish, worshiping God and still go that route, not using the New Testament, and then all the rest using the New Testament.” Alright, so we need to stop there for a moment. Just to be clear. Our Jewish friends are very different in that they reject Jesus as the Messiah, I’m sure you know that. That’s why they reject the New Testament. They do have much to teach us in terms of the Old Testament, but because they reject Jesus, we need to very carefully consider their thoughts even about the Old Testament. As an example, one of my favorite people is Dennis Prager, who happens to be a Jew. I’ve been a fan of Dennis for more than 40 years. and in case you don’t know, Dennis has a radio show he’s had for decades. That’s when I first became aware of him. I used to listen to him on KABC here in the Los Angeles area, back when I was on the radio at the end of the 70s and early 80s. In addition to his radio show, he’s written books, he has a podcast. He writes columns in syndicated newspapers around the country, maybe the world, I’m not sure how far is newspaper column is syndicated. But he’s a really prolific guy, I love him. He’s in the process right now of writing a set of commentaries on the first five books of the Bible. He is a learned wise man. But when it comes to biblical doctrine, I have heard him say many things that I as a believer in Christ cannot agree with. I love him. and I pray that he will one day come to realize that Jesus is the Messiah, that the Jewish people had been looking for. Okay, James continues, “It is said, God, Jesus in the spirit are one in the same, but I don’t feel God and Jesus are at all the same. I’m speaking in the way that they communicate to people, et cetera. I don’t know if it’s coming across the way I’m intending but hopefully you get what I’m saying.” Okay, I’ll stop there. James, if I’m understanding you correctly, I think that you’re misunderstanding the doctrine of the Trinity. The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, are not one in the same. Each person of the Trinity, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Each person is distinct from the others with different roles and different functions, while at the same time being one. It is a difficult concept to fully grasp as a human, but I hope that helps a little. They’re not the same. They are different. They’re distinct. and James, did you hear the essential series that we did this season? On? Episode s 13, e 136. I talked at some length about the Trinity. I’ll put a link in the show notes to that episode. and maybe that’ll help you. Also, please feel free to email me with your questions even after the show’s done. I’m not going anywhere. As far as I know. Of course, I don’t know what God has planned for me. But I’m planning on being around for a while. And James closes his note with this. “Anyway, I enjoyed your show this year. Thanks for doing it. and thanks to no agenda for hitting me in the mouth when I was open to taking on this challenge. I see some things happening that make me more open to this information than I have been in the past.” And he signed, “James Garner, not the actor.” Well, thank you, James. God bless you. You have me a little curious about your last sentence, but I’m so happy that you have been part of the Lifespring family. Thank you. Deuteronomy 32-34: Moses Says Goodbye

Transcript Today’s Bible Translation Bible translation used in today’s episode: Ch. 32-33 CEB, Ch. 34 GWT Podcast Introduction Today is The Law Monday. We’ll complete this section of the bible with the final chapters of Deuteronomy…chapters 32-34. I’m calling this episode “Moses Says Goodbye.“ Design: Jason Paschall | Photo: Susan Myers on Unsplash Summary In Deuteronomy 32, we read the “Song of Moses”, which emphasizes the importance of God’s teachings and recounts Israel’s history, including their disobedience and the consequences they faced. The chapter ends by highlighting the significance of following God’s Law for a blessed life. In Deuteronomy 33, Moses blesses the twelve tribes of Israel before his death. Simeon is notably omitted from these blessings, possibly due to the tribe’s previous actions and reputation. Moses, aware of his impending death, uses this moment to encourage and bless the people he has led for forty years. Finally, in Deuteronomy 34, God allows Moses a view of the Promised Land from Mount Nebo before his passing. This symbolizes the culmination of his life’s journey and the passing of leadership to Joshua, signifying the continuation of God’s plan for Israel. These chapters explore themes of God’s faithfulness, the consequences of disobedience, the importance of God’s Word, and the transition of leadership. Listen to the episode for more! One Year Bible coming to you from Riverside, California and podcasting since 2004. I am your OG Godcaster. Steve Webb, this is the law Monday, we’ll complete this section of the Bible with the final chapters of Deuteronomy, chapters 32 through 34. You can find this episode and more than 3000 others at Lifespringmedia.com. and I’ll have contact information at the end of today’s show in case you’d like to say something to me, before we read, let’s pray. Our Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your word. It is life and we are so happy that you’ve given us this time to read together. Teach us by your Holy Spirit as we hear your words for us. We pray this in Jesus name. Amen. All right, are you ready? Let’s get started. Steve Webb 0:52Deuteronomy chapter 32. Heaven, pay attention and I will speak Earth. Listen to the words of my mouth. My teaching will fall like raindrops, my speech will settle like do like gentle rains on grass, like spring showers on all that is green, because I proclaimed the Lord’s name, give praise to our God, the rock, his acts are perfection. No doubt about it. All His ways are right. He’s the faithful God, never deceiving. Altogether righteous and true is he? But children who weren’t his own sinned against Him with their defects? They are a twisted and perverse generation. Is this how you thank the Lord you stupid, senseless people? Is it he your father, your Creator? Didn’t he make you and establish you? Remember the days long past? Consider the years long gone? Ask your father and he will tell you about it. Ask your elders they will give you the details. When God most high divided up the nations when he divided up humankind he decided that people’s boundaries based on the number of the gods. Surely the Lord’s property was his people. Jacob was his part of the inheritance. God found Israel in a wild land in a howling desert wasteland. He protected them cared for them, watched over them with his very own eye. Like an eagle protecting its nest hovering over its young Gods spread out his wings to a cold of Israel, carried him on his back. The Lord alone let Israel no foreign god assisted. God made Israel glide over the highlands. He fed him with food from the field nursed him with honey from a boulder with oil from a hard rock curds from the herd milk from the flock along with the best of lambs rams from Batian he goats to along with the finest wheat and for drink wine from the juiciest grapes. Jacob ate until he was stuffed Jeshua and got fat then rebellious. It was you who got fat, thick, stubborn Jeshua and gave up on the God who made him thought the rock of his salvation was worthless. They made God jealous with strange gods aggravated him with detestable things. They sacrificed to demons not to God to deities, of which they had no knowledge New Gods only recently on the scene, ones about which your ancestors had never heard you deserted the rock that sired you, you forgot the God who gave birth to you. The Lord saw this and rejected out of aggravation his sons and his daughters. He said I will hide my face from them. I will see what becomes of them because they are a confused generation. Their children lacking loyalty. They provoked me with no gods aggravated me with their pieces of junk. So I am going to provoke them with no people aggravate them with a nation of fools. A fire burns in me it will blaze to the depths of the grave. It will destroy the land and its crops. It will black in the base of the mountains. I’ll throw on them disaster after disaster. I’ll destroy them with my arrows, devastating hunger, consuming plague, bitter sickness. I’ll send animal things after them venom from dust crawlers to outside in the streets, the sword will be removed. Inside in the safest room, there will be terror for young men and women, nursing baby and senior citizen. I thought about it. I could have struck them down erase them from human memory. But their enemies rage concern me. Their opponents might misunderstand. They may say our strong hands not the Lord’s did all this because they are not a thoughtful nation. They lack any insight. If they had any wisdom, they would understand this. They would discern what will become of them. How could one person chase off 1000 in battle? How could two people make 10,000 flee for their lives? Only because they’re rock sold them off only because the Lord handed them over. But no, their rocks can’t compare to our rock. Our enemies are completely stupid. Their roots run straight from Saddam from the fields of Gomorrah. Their grapes are pure poison. They’re great clusters, nothing but bitter. Their wine is snake poison. Venom from a cruel Cobra. Don’t I have this stored up sealed in my vaults? Revenge is my domain. So is punishment in kind at the exact moment their steps lips up, because the day of their destruction is just around the corner. Their final destiny is speeding on its way. But the Lord will acquit his people will have compassion on those who serve him once he sees that their strength is all gone, that both prisoners and free people are wiped out. The Lord will ask where are their gods, the rocks they trusted in who ate up the fat of their sacrifices, who drank their sacred wine, they should stand up and help you. They should protect you now. Now look here, I myself, I am the one. There are no other gods before me. I am the one who deals death and gives life. I am the one who wounded but now I will heal. There’s no escaping my hand. But now I’m lifting my hand to heaven. I swear by my own eternity. When I sharpen my Blazing Sword, and my hand grabs ahold of justice, I’ll pay my enemies back. I will punish in kind everyone who hates me, I will make my arrows drink much blood while my sword devours flesh, the blood of the dead and captured flowing from the heads of enemy generals. heavens rejoice with God, all you God’s bow down to the Lord, because He will avenge his children’s blood. He will pay back his enemies. He will punish unkind those who hate Him, He will cleanse his people’s land. So Moses came and recited all the words of this poem and everyone’s hearing Joshua none son joined him. When Moses finished speaking all these words to Israel, he told them, set your mind on all these words, I’m testifying against you right now, because you must command your children to perform carefully all the words of this instruction. This is no trivial matter for you. This is your very life. It is by this means alone, that you will prolong your life in the fertile land you’re crossing the Jordan River to possess. The Lord spoke to Moses that very same day, hike up the Abra mountains to mount Niebo, which is in the land of Moab opposite Jericho. Take a good look at the land of Canaan, which I’m giving to the Israelites as their property. You will die on the mountain you have hiked up and you will be gathered to your people just like your brother Aaron, who died on Mount Hor and was gathered to his people because the two of you were unfaithful toward me in front of the Israelites at the waters of Marybeth k dash in the Zinn wilderness because you didn’t treat me with proper respect before the Israelites. You can look at the land from the other side of the river, but you won’t enter there. Steve Webb 8:10Deuteronomy chapter 33. This is the blessing that Moses the man of God gave the Israelites before he died. He said, The Lord came from Sinai from SEER he shone like the dawn on us from paper and mountain he beamed down 1000s of holy ones were with him. His warriors were next to him ready? Yes, those who love the nation’s all His holy ones. Were at your command. They followed your footsteps. They got moving when you said so. Moses gave the instruction to us. It’s the prized possession of Jacob’s assembly. A king came to rule and gesture when when the peoples leaders gathered together when Israel’s tribes were one. I pray that Ruben lives doesn’t die, though his numbers are so few. Moses said this to Judah. Lord, listen to Judas voice, bring him back to his own people, strengthen his hands, be his help against every enemy. Then he told Levi, give your thumb to leave I your urine to your faithful one. The one you tested at masa, the one you challenged by Mara buzz waters, the one who said of his own mother and father, I don’t consider them as such of their siblings. I don’t recognize them of their own children. I don’t know them, but who obeyed your words and who guarded your covenant. They teach your case laws to Jacob, your instruction to Israel. They hold sweet incense to your nose put the entirely burned offering on your altar. I pray that the Lord blesses Levi strength favors his hard work and crushes the insides of his enemies so that those who hate him can’t fight anymore. He said to Benjamin, the Lord’s dearest one rest safely on him. The Lord always shields him he rests on God’s chest. Then he told Joseph, I pray that his land is blessed by God with Heavens gifts from above, with the deep waters stretching out underneath, with the gifts produced by the sun, with the gifts generated by the moon, with the best fruit from ancient mountains, with the gifts of eternal hills, with the gifts of the earth, and all that fills it, and the favor of the one who lives on Sinai. I pray that all these rests on Josef’s head on the crown of that prince among brothers, a firstborn bull that is how majestic he is a wild ox his horns, those are his horns. With them he goes all peoples completely to the far ends of the earth. His horns are F freedoms 10s of 1000s his horns are Manassas 1000s. Then he told Zamberlan Zeb Yulin celebrate when you are out and about is a car celebrate when you’re at home and your tents. They call all sorts of people to the mountain where they offer right sacrifices. It’s true. They’re nourished on the seas abundance, they are nourished on buried treasures in the sand. Then he told Gad, may God’s broad lens be blessed. He lives like a lion. He rips an arm even ahead. He chose the best part for himself because there were the commander’s portion was the leaders of the people gathered together, God executed the Lord’s justice and the Lord’s judgments for Israel. Then he told Dan, Dan is a lion cub. He jumps up from Batian. and then he told NAFTA lie. NAFTA lie you are full of favor, overflowing with the Lord’s blessing. Go possess the west and the south. Finally, he told Asher Asher is the most blessed of sons. I pray that he’s his brother’s favorite. One who dips his foot in fine oil. I pray that your deadbolts are iron and copper and that your strength lasts all your days. Jeff Sherman, no one compares to God. He rides through heaven to help you rides majestically through the clouds. The most ancient god is a place of safety. The eternal arms are a support. He drove out the enemy before you He commanded destroy them. So Israel now lives in safety. Jacobs residence is secure in a land full of grain and wine, where the heavens drip do happy are you Israel, who was like you? You are a people saved by the Lord. He’s the shield that helps you your majestic sword. Your enemies will come crawling on their knees to you that you will stomp on their backs. Steve Webb 12:46Deuteronomy chapter 34. Then Moses went up on mountain Niebo from the plains of Moab. He went to the top of pisco across from Jericho. The Lord showed him the whole land. He could see Gilead as far as Dan, all of NAFTA lie, the territory of Ephraim and Manasseh. All the territory of Judah as far as the Mediterranean Sea, the Negev and the Jordan plane, the valley of Jericho, the city of palms as far as our Then the Lord said to him, this is the land I promised with an oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. I said I would give it to their descendants. I have let you see it with your own eyes, but you may not go there. As the Lord had predicted, the Lord servant Moses died in Moab. He was buried in a valley in Moab near Beth peor. Even today, no one knows where his grave is. Moses was 120 years old when he died. His eyesight never became poor, and he never lost his physical strength. The Israelites mourn for Moses in the plains of Moab for 30 days, then the time of mourning for him was over. Joshua son of Nan was filled with a spirit of wisdom, because Moses had laid his hands on him. The Israelites obeyed him and did what the Lord had commanded through Moses. There has never been another prophet in Israel, like Moses, whom the Lord dealt with face to face. He was the one the Lord sent to do all the miraculous signs and amazing things in Egypt to Pharaoh to all his officials into his whole country. and Moses used his mighty hand to do all the spectacular and awe inspiring deeds that were seen by all the Israelites. Steve Webb 14:31Today, I’ve got thoughts on each of our chapters. Let’s talk about Deuteronomy 32. First, chapter 31 ended with the words and Moses spoke this whole song for all the people of Israel to hear leaving us with a bit of a cliffhanger. Well, most of chapter 32 is the song to which the end of 31 referred. The first four verses are a call to all of creation to listen to what he’s about to say, and the fact that he’s proclaiming the name of the Lord. Start giving him praise for who he is and what he does. The next two verses state the fact that Israel has sinned. and then verses seven through 14 Tell how God has been faithful to Israel throughout history, and that He has loved them and bless them. In verses 15 through 18, Moses reminded the people of how Israel responded to God’s love by abandoning him. Verses 19 to 27. Tell how in response to their rebellion, God left their side and punished them. and then in the final verses of the song verses 2343, God lists his charges against Israel in calls them back to himself. Notice that he calls them back even still. Well, after the song, Moses encourages Israel with the words, this is no trivial matter to you, this is your very life. It is by this means that you will prolong your life on the fertile land, you are crossing the Jordan River to possess it. Another way to say this is no trivial matter to you is, this is no meaningless thing this matters. One of the lies that the enemy tells us when we’re in the midst of sin is what God says, doesn’t matter. You can do what you want. Well, Moses is reminding them that what God says does matter. and what he says is life itself. and then in the final five verses of this chapter, God gives Moses his final instructions, he’s told to go up to the place where he will breathe his last, God says, he’ll be able to look across the Jordan River into the promised land, but because of his sin at Meribah, k dash, he will not be allowed to go in. and then in chapter 33, very few of us know the time of our death. But here in chapter 33 of Deuteronomy, Moses knows that his time has come because God told him so. and here in chapter 33, Moses wanted to leave the people that he had led out of Egypt and through the desert for these 40 years with words that would be encouraging to them despite their failings. Chapter 34 tells us about Moses death. Now imagine the bittersweet thrill that it must have been for Moses to have God show him a view of the promised land from the top of Mount Niebo. It had to be disappointing not to get to go in. But since God had already told him that this would be the case after their sin in Numbers, chapter 20, Moses must have been somewhat used to the idea, but the thrill of actually seeing the land with his own eyes had to have been at least somewhat satisfying. If you’d like to see a picture of the land that Moses saw when he looked over into the Promised Land, I’ve got one and a link on the show notes page at Lifespringmedia.com slash s 13. Jude: A Call to Persevere

Transcript Today’s Bible Translation Bible translation used in today’s episode: Ch. 1 NIRV Podcast Introduction Today is Epistles Sunday. Our reading will be the tiny little book of Jude. Just 24 verses. And while it is short, we need to remember that it’s in the Bible for a reason. It’s message is important. I’m calling this episode “A Call to Persevere.“ Design: Jason Paschall | Photo: Midjourney Summary Jude’s letter still resonates with relevance today. It emphasizes the need to defend our faith, especially in a time when Christianity faces challenges. The idea that Christianity is always one generation away from extinction underscores the importance of passing down the faith to the next generation. We have a responsibility to follow Jesus’ Great Commission, which calls for spreading the Gospel to all nations. Jude also addresses the issue of false teachers who misuse God’s grace to justify sexual sin. Modern arguments about love and God’s acceptance parallel Jude’s description of people doing what feels natural to them. Jude encourages believers to abide in God’s love, pray guided by the Holy Spirit, live lives that honor God, and offer praise to Him and Jesus Christ. His message transcends time, speaking to the early church, the contemporary church, and future generations. Listen to the episode for more! Support This a value for value podcast. One Year Bible coming to you from Riverside, California and podcasting since 2004. My name is Steve Webb. I’m your OG Godcaster. This is the first day of the last week of episodes for season 13. and for the Lifespring!, One Year Bible, yes, including today, there are just seven episodes left. This week, we’ll be bringing a close to each of the seven books. We’re now reading. Today’s epistle Sunday, our reading will be the tiny little book of Jude, just 24 verses. and while it is short, we need to remember that it’s in the Bible for a reason. Its message is important. The website is a Lifespringmedia.com. and you’ll have contact information as always at the end of the show, before we read, let’s pray. Our Heavenly Father, we love you and we thank you for your work. and as we read today, we ask that you bless us and that you would teach us. We pray this in Jesus name. Amen. Okay, are you ready? Let’s begin. Steve Webb 1:03Like James, Jude was the brother of Jesus, or more accurately a half brother. This epistle or letter was probably written to Jewish believers. and he wrote to them about Jewish history, angels and false teachers. Steve Webb 1:17The book of Jude, I, Jude and writing this letter, I serve Jesus Christ. I am a brother of James, I’m sending this letter to you who have been chosen by God. You are loved by God the Father, you are kept safe by Jesus Christ made more and more mercy, peace and love be given to you. Dear friends, I really wanted to write to you about the salvation we share. But now I feel I should write and ask you to stand up for the faith. God’s people were trusted with it once and for all time. Certain people have slipped in among you in secret. and long ago it was written that they would be judged. They are godless people. They use the grace of our God as an excuse for sexual sins. They say no to Jesus Christ. He is our only Lord and King. I want to remind you about some things you already know that the Lord saved his people. He brought them out of Egypt. But later he destroyed those who did not believe that some of the angels didn’t stay where they belonged. They didn’t keep their positions of authority. The Lord has kept those angels in darkness, they are held by chains that last forever. On Judgment Day, God will judge them. The people of Sodom and Gomorrah and the towns around them also did evil things. They gave themselves over to sexual sins, they committed sins of the worst possible kind. They are an example of those who are punished with fire. The fire never goes out. In the very same way those dreamers pollute their own bodies. They don’t accept authority. They speak evil things against heavenly beings. But not even Michael did that. He was the leader of the angels. He argued with the devil about the body of Moses, but he didn’t dare to speak evil things against the devil. Instead, he said, May the Lord stop you. But those people speak evil things against what they don’t understand. They’re like wild animals. They can’t think for themselves. They do what comes naturally to them. Those are the very things that destroy them. How terrible it will be for them. They followed the way of Cain. They rushed ahead and made the same mistake as balem did. They did it because they loved money. They’re like Cora, he turned against his leaders. Those people will certainly be destroyed just as Cora was there like stains that the meals you share. They eat too much. They have no shame. They’re shepherds who feed only themselves. They’re like clouds without rain. They’re blown along by the wind. They are like trees in the fall. Since they have no fruit, they’re pulled up so they die twice. They’re like the wild waves of the sea. Their shame rises up like foam. They’re like falling stars. God has reserved a place of very black darkness for them. He will keep them there forever. Enoch was the seventh man in the family line of Adam. He gave a prophecy about those people. He said, Look, the Lord is coming with 1000s and 1000s of His holy ones. He is coming to judge everyone. He is coming to sentence all and godly people. He will judge them for all the ungodly acts they have done. They have done them in ungodly ways. He will sentence ungodly sinners for all the bad things they’ve said about him. Those people complain, they find fault with others. They follow their own evil longings. They brag about themselves. They praise others to help themselves. Dear friends, remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ said was going to happen. They told you in the last AES. Some people will make fun of the truth. They will follow their own ungodly longings. They are the people who separate you from one another. They do only what comes naturally. They are not led by the Holy Spirit. Dear friends, build yourselves up and your most holy faith. Let the Holy Spirit guide and help you when you pray. The mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ will bring you eternal life. As you wait for His Mercy remain in God’s love. Show mercy to those who doubt, pull others out of the fire, save them to others show mercy mixed with fear, hate even the clothes that are stained by the sins of those who wear them. give praise to the one who was able to keep you from falling into sin, He will bring you into His heavenly glory without any fault. He will bring you there with great joy, give praise to the only God He is our Savior, glory, majesty, power and authority belong to him, and give praise to Him through Jesus Christ our Lord, give praise to the one who was before all time who now is and who will be forever. Amen. Steve Webb 6:10Isn’t it amazing how a letter written more than 2000 years ago sounds so current. Jude talks about the importance of standing up for the faith. and never has it been more important to do than it is today when Christianity is under attack as it has not been in many years. and never, I believe as it has been here in the United States. I’ve heard it said that Christianity is always just one generation away from extinction. If we don’t share our faith with the next generation, there will be no one to share the good news of a risen Savior. But of course, we know that God has promised to always have a remnant in each generation. So that isn’t going to happen. But that doesn’t take away our responsibility to heed what Jesus said just before He ascended into heaven. He said all authority in heaven and earth has been given to me. So you must go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Teach them to obey everything I’ve commanded you. and you can be sure I am always with you to the very end. and of course, is the Great Commission. and that’s the job he gave to each of us. He didn’t say to do this when it’s easy or convenient or politically correct. He didn’t give any opportunity or no excuse, or a way out of doing everything we can to accomplish this job. and we must do what Jesus said. In his epistle here Jude spoke as others did about false teachers. But here Jude talked about those who abused God’s grace and excuse sexual sin. That sounds vaguely familiar, doesn’t it? Today, they say, How could a loving God condemn me for who I love. This is the way he made me, which addresses the point Jude made about how they quote, do what comes naturally to them. Unquote. Listen, it might come naturally to me to have multiple women. But that is not God’s plan. and I choose to follow God’s teaching about marriage, and I am joyfully faithful to one wife. Jude encouraged the believers to remain in God’s love in this letter as well, to pray with a leading of the Holy Spirit and to live lives that please God and praise Him for who He is. and praise Jesus Christ, our Lord. Jude’s message was written to the early church and to the church of today and the church of tomorrow without a doubt. Let me hear from you. If you have a thought or a question about what we’ve talked about, send to Boostagram or call the Lifespring family hotline or go to the comments page or write an email. Tomorrow will be the law Monday and we’ll complete the book of Deuteronomy with chapters 32 through 34 Steve Webb 8:48A 50,000 sat Boostagram came in from anonymous using the podverse app. Anonymous says, “A couple of years ago, I had to make some dietary changes for health reasons. I learned it wasn’t enough to eat more of the healthy stuff. I also had to give up the unhealthy stuff, I think is probably the same for the content we consume. This podcast doesn’t just increase my exposure to Scripture. It also reduces my exposure to content that encourages fear, anger and sin. Thanks.”, Anonymous says. Well, Anonymous, thank you. That’s very kind of you to say. and it’s also true that it isn’t just enough to get more than good food. That bad stuff does so much damage that it’s impossible to get healthy if you keep eating it even if you eat more good food. This is something that I have learned this last year. In about October or November of last year I began eliminating processed foods and replacing them with non processed foods, grass fed and finished beef pasture raised eggs, raw dairy and organic fruit. and guess what so far I have effortlessly dropped over 40 pounds. My arthritis pain which I’ve had for many years is nearly gone. On, my digestion is much better than it’s been in years I sleep better, I no longer have high blood pressure. Now it’s typically about 10 points lower than a man my age is supposed to have. and I could go on. I don’t have food cravings, and I’m rarely hungry. I realized that those seemingly harmless processed and fast foods were slowly killing me. The foods I now eat are far more nutritious and fulfilling. and on the rare occasion, when I do eat junk, my body lets me know that it isn’t happy. My stomach is upset my blood pressure spikes and my thinking is not as clear. This is a great parallel you’ve drawn for us anonymous, thank you for that. We need to eliminate those things that damage us spiritually. This is sort of the flip side to what the Apostle Paul wrote in Philippians 489. Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable. If there is any excellence. If there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you. So Beloved, if there are spiritually unhealthy things that you’re holding on to thinking that it’s no big deal, don’t fall for that lie from the enemy. It is a big deal. You cannot grow in the Lord if you keep them in your life. Thanks again, anonymous. God bless you. Jingle 11:30Lifespringmedia.com/support Steve Webb 11:35Prayer requests and praises. You might remember the prayer request from Brother Phil for a singer at his church by the name of Dallas who has aphasia. Well, at the beginning of September, he had an operation and a few days ago, Phil said in this update, he said Hi Steve Dallas was in church yesterday. He’s communicating fine, it seemed to me but I only had a chance to say hello and welcome him to church. So let’s praise the Lord Dallas seems to be on the mend. Thanks for the update. Brother Phil, please give Dallas our best the next time you see him. and then this came in from the lovely lady Leanne, one of our son, Tim’s longtime friends has a very young son named Kai. He’s three or four years old and little guy has cancer. and he started chemotherapy this past week. So let’s pray for chi in his family. and I’m praising God that my cold is nearly gone. You can still hear it a little bit of my voice. But I feel so much better. and I hope to get my laser eye surgery done very soon. All right, so let’s pray. Our Heavenly Father, we thank you for preserving your Word through the centuries so that we can know the truth. There are so many that tried to teach things that are false, but your word is the standard, the plumb line. and when distortions are lined up against it, the lies are revealed. We thank you for that, Lord, Lord, give us discernment. and help us to be immersed in your truth. Father, we thank you and we praise you for the good report from Phil about Dallas. and we pray that you will continue to use the gifts you’ve given him to communicate in speech and in music. We thank You Father. and we lift up little chi Lord, we ask you to heal him of this cancer, be with him and his family as they go through this chemotherapy. and we pray that you would keep them strong and help them to lean on you use this time to teach chi and his family that you’re stronger than any disease, and that you are indeed our provider. and now Father, I thank you for this the Lifespring family. Thank you for bringing them here. You called each one and I pray that You would bless them. Give us all a thirst to know you better each day. Hold us close to you, Lord and use us as you see fit. We pray this in Jesus name. Amen. Beloved, we have one more time to pray together. this coming Wednesday will be the last time you see the last episode is Next Saturday, not Sunday, as I mistakenly said previously, so if there is anything that you’d like to praise God for, or if you have a request, let me know why this coming Tuesday at 5pm Pacific so that I can get it on Wednesday’s show. Three days after Festus arrived intercessory. To take over his new responsibilities. He left for Jerusalem, where the leading priests and other Jewish leaders met with him and made their accusations against Paul. They asked Festus as a favor to transfer Paul to Jerusalem, planning to ambush and kill him on the way. But Festus replied that Paul was at Surya and he himself would be returning there soon. So he said, those of you in authority can return with me. If Paul has done anything wrong, you can make your accusations about eight or 10 days later, Festus return to assessor Ria. and on the following day, he took his seat in court and ordered that Paul be brought in. When Paul arrived, the Jewish leaders from Jerusalem gathered around and made many serious accusations they couldn’t prove. Paul denied the charges. I am not guilty of any crime against the Jewish laws or the temple or the Roman government. He said, Then Festus wanting to please the Jews asked him, Are you willing to go to Jerusalem and stand trial before me there? But Paul replied, No, this is the official Roman court, so I ought to be tried right here. You know very well, I’m not guilty of harming the Jews. If I’ve done something worthy of death, I don’t refuse to die. But if I am innocent, no one has a right to turn me over to these men to kill me. I appealed to Caesar Festus conferred with his advisors and then replied, very well, you have appealed to Caesar and to Caesar you will go. A few days later, King Agrippa arrived with his sister Bernice to pay their respects to Festus. During their stay of several days, Festus discussed Paul’s case with the king. There was a prisoner here he told him whose case was left for me by feelings. When I was in Jerusalem, the leading priests and Jewish elders press charges against him and asked me to condemn him. I pointed out to them that Roman law does not convict people without a trial, they must be given an opportunity to confront their accusers and defend themselves. When his accusers came here for the trial. I didn’t delay. I called the case the very next day in order to Paul brought in, but the accusations made against him were at any of the crimes I expected. Instead, it was something about their religion and a dead man named Jesus, who Paul insists is still alive. I was at a loss to know how to investigate these things. So I asked him whether he would be willing to stand trial on these charges in Jerusalem. But Paul appealed to have his case decided by the emperor, so I ordered that he be held in custody until I could arrange to send him to Caesar. I’d like to hear the man myself a grip have said and Festus replied, You will tomorrow. So the next day Agrippa and Bernice arrived at the auditorium with great pomp accompanied by military officers and prominent men of the city. Festus ordered that Paul be brought in. Then Festus said, King Agrippa, and all who are here, this is the man whose death is demanded by all the Jews, both here and in Jerusalem. But in my opinion, he has done nothing deserving death. However, since he appealed his case to the Emperor, I have decided to send him to Rome. But what shall I write the Emperor, for there is no clear charge against him. So I have brought him here before all of you, and especially you King Agrippa, so that after we examine him, I might have something to write, for it makes no sense to send a prisoner to the Emperor without specifying the charges against him. Steve Webb 4:19Acts 26. Then Agrippa said to Paul, you may speak in your defense, so Paul gesturing with his hand started his defense. I am fortunate King Agrippa that you are the one hearing my defense today against all these accusations made by the Jewish leaders. For I know you are an expert on all Jewish customs and controversies. Now please listen to me patiently. As the Jewish leaders are well aware, I was given a thorough Jewish training from my earliest childhood among my own people and in Jerusalem. If they would admit it, they know that I have been a member of the Pharisees, the strictest sect of our religion. And now I’m on trial because of my hope in the fulfillment of God’s promise made to our ancestors. In fact, that is why the 12 tribes of Israel zealously worship God, night and day, and they share the same hope I have. Yet, Your Majesty, they accused me for having this hope. Why does it seem incredible to any of you that God can raise the dead? I used to believe that I ought to do everything I could to oppose the very name of Jesus, the Nazarene. Indeed, I did just that in Jerusalem. Authorised by the leading priests, I caused many believers there to be sent to prison, and I cast my vote against them when they were condemned to death. Many times I had them punished in the synagogues to get them to curse Jesus. I was so violently opposed to them that I even chased them down in foreign cities. One day, I was on such a mission to Damascus, armed with the authority and commission of the leading priests. About noon, Your Majesty, as I was on the road, a light from Heaven brighter than the sun shone down on me and my companions. We all fell down, and I heard a voice saying to me in Aramaic, Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me? It is useless for you to fight against my will. Who are you, Lord, I asked. and the Lord replied, I am Jesus, the one you’re persecuting. Now get to your feet, for I have appeared to you to appoint you as my servant and witness. Tell people that you have seen me and tell them what I will show you in the future. and I will rescue you from both your own people and the Gentiles. Yes, I am sending you to the Gentiles to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, then they will receive forgiveness for their sins and be given a place among God’s people who are set apart by faith in me. and so King Agrippa I obeyed that vision from heaven. I preached first to those in Damascus, then in Jerusalem, and throughout all Judea, and also to the Gentiles that all must repent of their sins and turn to God and prove they have changed by the good things they do. Some Jews arrested me in the temple for preaching this and they tried to kill me. But God has protected me right up to this present time so I can testify to everyone from the least to the greatest. I teach nothing except what the prophets and Moses said would happen, that the Messiah would suffer and be the first to rise from the dead, and in this way, announce God’s light to Jews and Gentiles alike. Suddenly fester. shouted Paul, you’re insane. Too much study has made you crazy. But Paul replied, I am not insane, most excellent Festus what I am saying is the sober truth. and King Agrippa knows about these things. I speak boldly for I am sure these events are all familiar to him, for they were not done in a corner. King Agrippa Do you believe the prophets? I know you do. Agrippa interrupted him. Do you think you can persuade me to become a Christian so quickly? Paul replied, whether quickly or not, I pray to God that both you and everyone here in this audience might become the same as I am, except for these chains. Then the king, the governor, Bernice and all the others stood and left. As they went out, they talked it over and agreed. This man hasn’t done anything to deserve death or imprisonment, and Agrippa said to Festus, he could have been set free if he hadn’t appealed to Caesar. Steve Webb 8:36In Paul’s opening statement, he established his credentials to Agrippa and everybody else who was listening Agrippa was a convert to Judaism, and who therefore knew better than most other Roman authorities the Jewish laws and customs. Paul explains that not only is he a Jew, but that he’s a highly educated Jew from a sect that is known as being very strict or conservative, as we might say today. and not only was he from such a sect, he adhered to its teachings. He then explained that he used to persecute Christians and even encouraged and participated in the execution of Christians, believing that this was a right and proper thing to do. and then Jesus stepped into his life in a way that Paul could not deny. Paul literally saw the light and then forth, his life was forever changed. God chose this man among all others to take the message of the Good News to the Gentiles. What do we learn from this? We learned that it doesn’t matter what your background is, God can reach down and save you and he can use you no matter what. Paul was the least likely candidate for man’s perspective, to be the one to carry the message to the Gentiles, let alone the Jews, but God had other plans. So what are his plans for you? They’re probably completely different than you could have ever imagined. One thing I can recommend you do is this. Ask the Lord to use you. In whatever way he sees fit. He will take you up on your offer in some way, shape or manner. He’s always looking for willing hearts. Steve Webb 11:08On Wednesdays episode, Psalms 146 through 148, the God who can be trusted. After the commentary, I asked this question, how have you found God to be worthy of praise? Well, in response to that this call came in on the Lifespring family hotline. LeeAnn Webb 11:25Good morning, everyone is LeeAnn. Just calling to give a word about the faithfulness of God to our lives. He has been faithful to me in so many ways. Number one, he provided me with a fabulous husband that I would not have ever dreamt I could have. and he’s taken care of our family through the years. If there was a need, he always made sure it was taken care of. and he took care of our son in his deathly illness, and brought him through that gave him good doctors to make him have a good life again. and he’s always provided in the fact that our boys have had good spouses who love their children and love them, and have given them good relationships. and just the relationship that Steve and I have, and in the fact that we’ve got this great life, big family. and he’s blessed us in so many ways. It’s been amazing. and I’m grateful to God for that. Have a great day everyone. Steve Webb 12:22That was of course the Lovely Lady LeeAnn, and yes, God has been so faithful to us. Not that we’ve been without struggles. Of course, we’ve had numerous times when life got difficult, but we always knew that God was there and that he is faithful. We didn’t know how he was going to provide but he always has, and often in the most unexpected ways. One of the great lessons we have learned is that God works in the midst of our struggles, difficulties and heartbreaks. Our heavenly Father walks with us through those times, and uses them to strengthen us to teach us and to bring us wisdom. He truly is worthy of praise. So thank you, sweetheart for your call. Revelation 12-17: The Antichrist, 666 and Babylon

Transcript Today’s Bible Translation Bible translation used in today’s episode: Ch. 12-16 WEB, Ch. 17 NLV Associate Producer Timothy LaFontaine Podcast Introduction It’s Prophecy Friday. Our reading will be Revelation 12-17, I’m calling this episode “The Antichrist, 666 and Babylon.“ Design: Jason Paschall | Photo: Midjourney Summary In Revelation 10-12, the Bible discusses spiritual warfare, emphasizing that our battles are not against people, but against spiritual forces of wickedness. In Revelation 12, there’s a symbolic image of a woman, representing the church, with the sun as Jesus, a crown of twelve stars as the twelve apostles, and the moon as the Jewish people. The dragon, symbolizing Satan, has always tried to harm humanity and the church. Despite ongoing battles, Satan’s defeat is certain, thanks to God’s love and patience as He awaits more believers. In Revelation 13 and 14, we encounter prophecies like the fall of Babylon and the mysterious number 666. Speculations about its meaning have existed throughout history, but its true significance will become clear when the time comes. Superstitions about this number are unwarranted. Instead, we should focus on doing the work God called us to, loving Him and others, and spreading the Good News. Revelation 17 and 18 discuss a great sinful city, Babylon. While its identity is uncertain, we should find encouragement in the fact that throughout history, evil entities have risen but eventually faced destruction. Recent examples like ISIS remind us that evil will ultimately be judged by God. We serve a powerful and just God who acts at the perfect time, bringing swift and certain judgment when necessary. My name is Steve Webb I am your OG Godcaster is prophecy Friday. and our reading today is Revelation 12 through 17. The website is Lifespringmedia.com. and I’ll have contact information at the end of today’s show. Before we read, let’s pray. Our heavenly Father, Lord, we thank You for Your Word. and we thank you for the book of Revelation. We pray, Lord, that as we read this sometimes very difficult to understand book, we pray that you would teach us, help us to see what it is you want us to understand. Teach us we pray in Jesus name, Amen. All right, beloved, are you ready? Let’s begin. Steve Webb 0:48Revelation chapter 12, is a great sign was seen in heaven. A woman clothed with the sun and the moon under her feet, and on her head, a crown of 12 stars. She was with child, she cried out in pain, laboring to give birth. Another sign was seen in heaven. Behold, a great red dragon having seven heads and 10 horns, and on his head’s seven crowns, His tail drew 1/3 of the stars of the sky and threw them to the earth. The dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth, so that when she gave birth, he might devour her child. She gave birth to his son, a male child, who was to rule all the nations with a rod of iron. Her child was caught up to God and to his throne. The woman fled into the wilderness where she has a place prepared by God, that there they may nourish her 1260 days, there was war in the sky, Michael and his angels made war on the dragon, the dragon and his angels made war. They didn’t prevail. Neither was a place found for him anymore in heaven. The great dragon was thrown down the old serpent, he who was called the Devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world. He was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, now the salvation, the power, and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ has come for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them before our God day and night. They overcame him because of the lambs blood, and because of the word of their testimony, they didn’t love their life, even to death. Therefore, rejoice heavens, and you who dwell in them, whoa to the Earth into the sea, because the devil has gone down to you, having great wrath, knowing that he has but a short time. When the dragon saw that he was thrown down to the earth, he persecuted the woman who gave birth to the male child. Two wings of the great eagle were given to the woman that she might fly into the wilderness to her place, so that she might be nourished for a time and times and half the time from the face of the serpent. The serpent spewed water out of his mouth after the woman like a river, that he might cause her to be carried away by the stream. The Earth helped the woman and the earth opened its mouth, and swallowed up the river which the dragon spewed out of his mouth. The dragon grew angry with a woman and went away to make war with the rest of our offspring, who keep God’s commandments and hold Jesus testimony. Steve Webb 3:24Revelation chapter 13. Then I stood on the sand of the sea, I saw a beast coming up out of the sea, having 10 horns and seven heads. On his horns were 10 crowns, and on his heads blasphemous names. The beast, which I saw was like a leopard, and his feet were like those of a bear and his mouth like the mouth of a lion. The dragon gave him his power, his throne and great authority. One of his heads looked like it had been wounded fatally, his fatal wound was healed, and the whole earth marveled at the beast. They worshipped the dragon because he gave his authority to the beast, and they worshiped the beast saying, who was like the beast who was able to make war with him, a mouth speaking great things and blasphemy was given to him. authority to make war for 42 months was given to him. He opened his mouth for blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name and his dwelling, those who dwell in heaven. It was given to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them. authority over every tribe, people, language and nation was given to him. All who dwell on the earth will worship him, everyone whose name has not been written from the foundation of the world, in the book of life of the Lamb who has been killed. If anyone has an ear, let him hear. If anyone has to go into captivity, he will go into captivity. If anyone is to be killed with the sword, he must be killed. Here is the endurance and the faith of the saints. I saw another beast coming up out of the air If he had two horns like a lamb, and he spoke like a dragon, and he exercises all the authority of the first beast in his presence, he makes the earth and those who dwell in it to worship the first beast, whose fatal wound was healed. He performs great signs, even making fire come down out of the sky to the earth in the sight of people. He deceives my own people who dwell on the earth because of the signs he was granted to do in front of the beast, saying to those who dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast who had the sword wound and lift, it was given to him to give breath to it to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak and causes many is wouldn’t worship the image of the beast to be killed. He causes all the small and the Great, the rich and the poor, the free and the slave to be given marks on their right hands or on their foreheads, and that no one would be able to buy or sell unless he has that mark, the name of the beast or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. He who has understanding, let him calculate the number of the beast for it is the number of a man his number is 666. Steve Webb 6:13Revelation chapter 14, I saw and behold, the Lamb standing on Mount Zion, and with him a number 144,000 having his name and the name of his father written on their foreheads. I heard a sound from heaven, like the sound of many waters, and like the sound of a great thunder. The sound which I heard was like that of harpists playing on their harps. They sang a new song before the throne. and before the four living creatures and the elders, no one could learn the song except the 144,000, those who had been redeemed out of the earth. These are those who were not defiled with women, for they are virgins. These are those who follow the Lamb wherever He goes. These were redeemed by Jesus from among men, the first fruits to God and to the Lamb. in their mouth was found no lie for their blameless I saw an angel flying in mid heaven, having an eternal good news to proclaim those who dwell on the earth, and to every nation, tribe, language and people. He said with a loud voice, Fear the Lord and give Him glory, for the hour of His judgment has come worship Him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of waters.Another a second angel followed, saying, Babylon the Great has fallen, which has made all the nations to drink of the wine of the wrath of her sexual immorality, and another angel, a third, follow them saying with a great voice. If anyone worships the beast and his image and receives a mark on his forehead, or on his hand, he also will drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is prepared unmixed in the cup of his anger, he will be tormented with fire and sulfur in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb. The smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever. They have no rest, day and night, those who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name. Here is the perseverance of the saints, those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus. I heard a voice from heaven saying, right, bless it are the dead who die in the Lord from now on. Yes, says the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors for their works follow with them. I looked and behold a white cloud. and on the cloud one sitting like a son of man, having on his head, a golden crown, and in his hand, a sharp sickle. Another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him who sat on the cloud, send your sickle and reap for the hour to reap his come for the harvest of the earth is ripe. He who sat on the cloud, Thrust his sickle on the earth, and the earth was reaped. Another angel came out of the temple, which is in heaven, he also had a sharp sickle. Another angel came out from the altar, He who has power over fire, and he called with a great voice to him who had the sharp sickle, saying, Send your sharp sickle and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth. For the earth, scrapes are fully ripe. The angel thrust his sickle into the earth, and gathered the vintage of the earth, and threw it into the great wind press of the wrath of God. The wind press was trodden outside of the city, and blood came out of the wind press, even to the bridles of the horses. As far as 1600 stadia in Steve Webb 9:37Revelation, chapter 15. I saw another great and marvelous sign in the sky, seven angels having the seven last plagues for in them God’s wrath is finished. I saw something like a sea of glass mixed with fire, and those who overcame the beast, his image and the number of his name standing on the sea of glass having harps of God. They sang the song of Moses, the servant of God and the song of the Lamb saying, Great and marvelous are Your works, Lord God, the Almighty, righteous and true are your ways you king of the nations. Who wouldn’t fear you, Lord and glorify your name, For you are holy, for all the nations will come and worship before you, for your righteous acts have been revealed. After these things I looked, and the temple of the tabernacle of the testimony in heaven was opened, the seven angels who had the seven plagues came out clothed with Pure Bright linen, and wearing golden sashes around their breasts. One of the four living creatures gave to the seven angels, seven golden bowls full of the wrath of God who lives forever and ever. The temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God, and from his power, no one was able to enter into the temple until the seven plagues of the seven angels will be finished. Steve Webb 10:56Revelation chapter 16. I heard a loud voice out of the temple, saying to the seven angels, Go and pour out the seven bowls of the wrath of God on the earth. The first went and poured out his bowl into the earth, and it became a harmful and evil sore on the people who had the mark of the beast and who worshipped his image. The second angel poured out his bowl into the sea, and it became blood as of a dead man. Every living thing in the sea died, the third poured out his bowl into the rivers and springs of water, and they became blood. I heard the angel of the waters saying, you are righteous, who are and who were you holy one, because you have judged these things, for they poured out the blood of the saints and prophets, and you have given them blood to drink. They deserve this. I heard the altar saying, Yes, Lord God, the Almighty, true and righteous are your judgments. The fourth poured out his bowl on the sun, and it was given to him to scorch men with fire. People were scorched with great heat, and people blasphemed, the name of God who has the power over these plagues. They didn’t repent and give Him glory. The fifth poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast and his kingdom was darkened. They nod their tongues because of the pain and they blaspheme the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores. They didn’t repent of their works. The six poured out his bowl on the great river, the Euphrates, its water was dried up, that the way might be prepared for the kings that come from the sunrise, I saw coming out of the mouth of the dragon and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet, three unclean spirits, something like frogs, for their spirits of demons, performing signs which go out to the kings of the whole inhabited Earth, to gather them together for the war of that great day of God the Almighty. Behold, I come like a thief. Blessed is he who watches and keeps his clothes so that he doesn’t walk naked, and they see his shame. He gathered them together into the place which is called in Hebrew Megiddo. The sevens poured out his bowl into the air, a loud voice came out of the temple of heaven from the throne, saying it is done. There were lightnings sounds and thunders. and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since there were men on the earth, so great an earthquake, so mighty. The great city was divided into three parts and the cities of the nations fell. Babylon the grade was remembered in the sight of God to give to her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath. every island fled away, and the mountains were not found. Great hailstones about the weight of a talent came down out of the sky on people. People blaspheme to God because of the plague of the hail for this plague is exceedingly severe. Steve Webb 13:48Revelation chapter 17. Then one of the seven angels who had the seven jars came to me, he said, Come, I will show you how the powerful woman who sells the use of her body will be punished. She sits on the many waters of the world, the kings of the earth have done sex sins with her, the people of the world have been made drunk with a wine of her sex sins. I was carried away in the spirit by the angel to a desert. I saw a woman sitting on a red wild animal. It had seven heads and 10 horns. All over the red wild animal was written bad names, which spoke against God. The woman was wearing purple and red clothes. She was wearing gold and pearls and stones worth much money. and she had in her hand a gold cup full of sinful things from her sex sins. There was a name written on her forehead, which had a secret meaning it said, the big and powerful Babylon mother of all women who sell the use of their bodies, and mother of everything sinful of the earth. I looked at the woman she was drunk with the blood of God’s people, and those who had been killed for telling about Jesus. Well I saw her, I wondered very much. The angel asked me, Why do you wonder? I will tell you the secret about this woman and the red wild animal that carries her. It is the red wild animal was seven heads and 10 horns. The red wild animal you saw was alive but is now dead. He will come up from the hole without a bottom and be destroyed. The people of the earth whose names have not been written in the book of life from the beginning of the world, will be surprised as they look at the red wild animal. He was alive but not now, but will yet come. Here is where we need wisdom. The seven heads of the animal or mountains where the woman sits, they are seven kings, also. Five of them are no longer kings. The sixth one is now King, the seventh one will be king, but only for a little while. The red wild animal that died is the eighth king. He belongs to the first seven kings, but he will be destroyed also, the 10 horns of the red wild animal which you saw are 10 kings, they have not become leaders yet, but they will be given the right and the power to lead their nations for one hour with the red wild animal. They agree to give the right and the power to the red wild animal. and these kings will fight and make war with a lamb. But the lamb will win the war because he is Lord of lords and King of Kings. His people are the called and chosen and faithful ones. Then the angel said to me, you saw the waters where the woman who sold the use of her body is sitting. The waters are people in large groups of people and nations and languages. The 10 horns you saw in the red wild animal will hate the woman who sold the use of her body, they will take everything from her and even her clothes, they will eat her flesh and burn her with fire. God put in their minds a plan that would carry out his desire, they will agree to give their nation to the read wild animal until the words of God had been completed. The woman you saw is the big and powerful city that has power over the kings of the earth. Steve Webb 17:09Ephesians 6:12 says, “…for our wrestling is not against flesh and blood but against the principalities, against the powers against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.” In today’s reading of revelation 12, we saw more of that spiritual warfare with what John described as a great sign in heaven, a woman clothed with the sun and the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of 12 stars. Most commentators agree that the woman represents the church, the bride of Christ, the son is Jesus, the crown of 12 stars as the 12 apostles, and the moon is the Jewish people. Of course, the dragon is Satan who has tried from the very beginning of human history to destroy humanity in general in the church and particular, this warfare will continue until Satan is thrown into the pit. One thing we do know is that his defeat is as sure as sure can be, the war has already been won. The battles continue only because of God’s great love as He waits for the fullness of time, and the final soul to be added to the role of believers. Until then our job is to proclaim the gospel, the good news of a risen Savior. This is what is meant in chapter 12 Verse 11, which says, they meaning the believers overcame him meaning Satan, because of the lambs blood, and because of the word of their testimony. They didn’t love their life, even to death. Yes, there will be martyrs. But as we’ve already seen, God will dry their tears. The important thing, beloved, is to remain faithful. Whatever we go through here on Earth is temporary and fleeting. and an eternity with God is certainly something glorious to look forward to, don’t you think? and then as we read Revelation and try to understand the prophecies contained in it, like the fall of Babylon and the mark of the beast to the 666, which is the number of a man, it’s natural. and this has been happening probably since John wrote the book of Revelation to try to understand them and put them into a familiar frame of reference. For example, considering the number of 666. Throughout history, believers have thought that it was Nero to Mohamed to Henry Kissinger to Barack Obama to George Soros to Klaus Schwab. I’m certainly not going to venture a guess because until he is revealed to guesses just to guess, we can know this. The number does represent a very real person, and when the time comes, everybody’s going to know who he is. Now, some people are superstitious about the number. If the total at the cash register comes up to 666 They’ll buy something else to change it. Athletes who are assigned entry number 666 oftentimes will ask for a different number or they’ll refuse to compete. Listen. In my opinion, that’s just plain foolish as all superstitions are. So in terms of Babylon, who is this great city, this one who sinned greatly caused others to sin was rich and brought riches to those who threw in with her, and was drunk with a blood of God’s people. Are you ready? Here’s the answer. I don’t know. I can speculate. But I’m not going to. I just want to bring your attention to something that should bring encouragement to your heart. When we see evil arise, we can take heart knowing that God will bring justice and judgment, even the harlot of Babylon, whoever she may be, he will be destroyed. We do not serve an impotent God. We do not serve a Deaf God. We do not serve a heartless God, we serve a God who acts at precisely the perfect time. and when the time comes for judgment, it will come swiftly and surely, all these prophecies we read about in Revelation will happen just as the prophecies of Jesus first coming did. The best thing for us to do beloved in preparation for His Second Coming, is to do the work he called us to do love God with all of our heart and soul and mind, love others and share the good news until the day of his coming, or until we’re called home. What do you think? Do you have thoughts or questions? Let me hear from you. Send a Boostagram or call the Lifespring family hotline, go to the comments page or write an email. Song of Solomon 5-6: Altogether Lovely

Transcript Today’s Bible Translation Bible translation used in today’s episode: Ch. 5-6 HCSB Podcast Introduction It’s Poetry Thursday. Then I’ll have contact information in case you want to get in touch with me at the end of the show. Before we read, let’s pray. Our Heavenly Father, we thank you for our time together. We thank You for Your Word. and we pray that as we read today, you would teach us touch our hearts in our minds. We pray this in Jesus name, Amen. All right, let’s begin. Steve Webb 0:44Song of Solomon chapter five. I have come to my garden, my sister, my bride. I gather my myrrh with my spices. I eat my honeycomb with my honey. I drink my wine with my milk, eat friends, drink, be intoxicated with love. I sleep but my heart is awake. A sound My love is knocking. Open to me my sister My darling My Dove my perfect one. For my head is drenched with do my hair with droplets of the night. I have taken off my clothing. How can I put it back on? I have washed my feet. How can I get them dirty? My love thrusts his hand through the opening, and my feelings were stirred for him. I rose to open from my love. My hands dripped with myrrh, my fingers with flowing myrrh on the handles of the bolt. I opened to my love, but my love had turned and gone away. I was crushed that he had left. I sought him but did not find him. I called him but he did not answer. The guards who go about the city found me. They beat and wounded me. They took my cloak from me. The Guardians of the walls. Young Women of Jerusalem I charge you. If you find my love, tell him that I love sick. What makes the one you love better than another most beautiful of women? What makes him better than another that you would give us this charge? My love is fit and strong. Notable among 10,000 His head is purest gold. His hair is wavy and black is a raven. His eyes are like doves besides streams of water, washed in milk and set like jewels. His cheeks are like beds of spice towers of perfume. His lips are lilies dripping with flowing myrrh. His arms are rods of gold set with Topaz. His body is an ivory panel covered with sapphires. His legs are alabaster pillars set on pedestals of pure gold. His presence is like Lebanon as majestic as the cedars. His mouth is sweetness. He is absolutely desirable. This is my love. and this is my friend Young Women of Jerusalem. Steve Webb 3:05Song of Solomon chapter six. Where has your love gone most beautiful of women. Which way has he turned we will seek Him with you. My love has gone down to his garden to beds of spice to feed in the gardens and gather lilies. I and my loves and my love is mine. He feeds among the lilies. You are as beautiful as Tirza my darling lovely as Jerusalem. All inspiring is an army with banners turn your eyes away from me for they captivate me. Your hair is like a flock of goats streaming down from Gilead. Your teeth are like a flock of us coming up from washing, each one having a twin and not one missing. Behind your veil your brows like a slice of pomegranate. There are 60 Queens and 80 concubines and young women without number. But my dove my virtuous one is unique. She is the favorite of her mother, perfect to the one who gave her birth. Women see her and declare her fortunate queens and concubines also and they sing her praises. Who is this who shines like a dawn as beautiful as the moon bride is the sun. All inspiring is an army with banners. I came down to the Walnut Grove to see the blossoms of the valley to see if the vines were budding and the pomegranates blooming. Before I knew it, my desire put me among the chariots of my noble people. Come back, come back Shulamite come back come back that we may look at you. Why are you looking at the Shulamite as you look at the dance of the two camps. Steve Webb 4:48Beloved, as you probably know this book The Song of Solomon can be read from at least two levels. It can be read as an account of a bride and groom from a purely human level or as an ally. Glory of the love of Christ for the church. Both interpretations are beautiful, and both have merit. Now, as I was studying this book again in preparation for how to present it to you, I came upon an interesting fact. In times past, Jewish teachers often advised their young people not to read it until they were 30 years old, because they were afraid that the book would stir up feelings of lust in them. While reading the language with a very different vocabulary today, it’s a bit difficult to imagine it having that effect on us, I suppose. But their fears are understandable, don’t you think? But if we look at the book from the allegorical perspective, we see how much Christ loves His church, and how much we should love him. I ran across the following excerpt from the great 19th century preacher, Charles Spurgeon, he said in reference to a portion of chapter 15, which reads in the King James, yay, he is altogether lovely. These following words, looking at my text, I felt much humbling of spirit, and I hesitated to preach upon it for I said, in my heart, it is high I cannot attain to it. These deep texts show us the shortness of our plumb line. These ocean verses are so exceeding broad, that our skills are apt to be driven far out of sight of land where our timid spirits trembled to spread the sail. Then I comforted myself by the thought that though I could not comprehend this text in a measure, Norway, its mountains in scales, or its hills in a balance, yet it was all mine own by the gift of divine grace, and therefore, I need not fear to enter upon the meditation of it. If I cannot grasp the ocean in my span, yet me I bathe there in with sweet content, if I cannot describe the king and his beauty, yet May I gaze upon him, since the old proverb says, a beggar may look at a prince, though I pretend not to preach from such a heavenly word is that before us as to spread before you all its marrow and fatness. Yet May I gather up a few crumbs which fall from its table, for men are glad of crumbs and crumbs from such a feast are better than loaves from the tables of the world, better to have a glimpse of Jesus, than to see all the glory of the earth all the days of our life. If we fail on this subject, we may do better than if we succeeded upon another. So we will pluck up courage, seek divine help, and draw near to this wondrous text with our shoes from off our feet like Moses when he saw the bush or glow with God. This verse has been translated in another way, he is all desires. and so indeed Jesus is, he was the desire of the ancients. He is the desire of all nations, still, to his own people. He is there all in all, they are complete in Him, they are filled out of his fullness. He is the delight of his servants, and fills their expectations to the full, but we will not dispute about translations. For after all, was such a text so full of unutterable spiritual sweetness. Every man must be his own translator, and into his own soul must the power of the message come by the enforcement of the Holy Spirit. Such a text as this is very like manna which fell in the wilderness which the rabbi’s say it tasted after each man’s liking. If the flavor in a man’s mouth was very sweetness, the angels food which fell around the camp was luscious as any dainty he had conceived, whatever he might be, the manner was to him as he was, so shall this text be to you with low ideas of Christ, the Word shall but glide over your ears and be meaningless. But if your spirit be ravished with a precious love of Jesus, there shall be songs of angels and more than that, the voice of God’s own spirit to your soul. That was from Spurgeon, the treasury of the Old Testament, and I can’t improve on what he wrote. So I’m gonna leave it at that. If you have thoughts or questions I’d like to hear from you. Send to Boostagram or call the Lifespring family hotline or go to the comments page or write an email. One Year Bible and it’s coming to you from Riverside, California. I’m your OG Godcaster. Steve Webb podcasting since 2004. It Psalms Wednesday, we’ll read chapters 146 through 148. and we’ll also have a time of prayer. The website is Lifespringmedia.com. and I’ll have contact information at the end of today’s show in case you got anything to say to me, before we read, let’s pray. Our Heavenly Father, we thank you for our time together, we pray God that as we read today, you would bless us. Thank you for the Psalms. Lord, they teach us so much about how to praise you, how to worship you, and even how to just talk honestly to you. I pray God that you would teach us today in Jesus name. Amen. Are you ready? Let’s begin. Steve Webb 0:51The last five chapters or songs of the book of Psalms beginning with this Psalm 146, are known as the Hallelujah Psalms. So what does hallelujah mean? In the simplest terms, it means praise the Lord. But there’s so much more to it than that. Listen to this from Bible study tools.com. The word itself is a transliteration into Greek of two Hebrew words halaal and Yawei. Hall all means to extol the greatness or excellence of a person, object or event. It’s often translated to praise, but who are you to praise? Yahweh is the covenant name of God, so to say, hallelujah is saying, extol greatness to our covenant keeping God and so the final five psalms are all about that to extol greatness to our covenant keeping God. Well, what does extol mean? From Merriam Webster it means to praise highly to glorify. So are you beginning to understand Hallelujah means to celebrate, to praise to glorify, to lift up the name of God, to rejoice in to offer up to him all the honor he so rightly deserves. James Montgomery Boice, the commentator wrote, In the earlier songs we have studied the writer’s griefs, shames, sins, doubts and fears. We have witnessed the people of God and their defeats and victories, their ups and downs in life. We have encountered rebellious words in struggling faith, all that is behind us. Now, in these final Psalms, every word is a praise. Steve Webb 2:30Psalms chapter 146. Praise the Lord, my whole being praise the Lord, I will praise the Lord all my life, I will sing praises to my God as long as I live. Do not put your trust in princes or other people who cannot save you. When people die, they are buried, then all of their plans come to an end, happier those who are helped by the God of Jacob. Their hope is in the Lord their God. He made heaven and earth, the sea and everything in it. He remains loyal forever. He does what is fair for those who have been wronged. He gives food to the hungry. The Lord sets the prisoners free. The Lord gives sight to the blind. The Lord lifts up people who are in trouble. The Lord loves those who do right. The Lord protects the foreigners. He defends the orphans and widows, but he blocks the way of the wicked. The LORD will be king forever. Jerusalem, Your God is everlasting. Praise the Lord. Steve Webb 3:30Like the other hallelujah Psalms, Psalm 147, has no title and like the others, this psalm begins and ends with hallelujah or praise the Lord. Steve Webb 3:43Psalms chapter 147. Praise the Lord. It is good to sing praises to our God. It is good and pleasant to praise Him. The Lord rebuilds Jerusalem. He brings back the captured Israelites. He heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds. He counts the stars and names each one. Our Lord is great and very powerful. There is no limit to what he knows. The Lord defends the humble but he throws the wicked to the ground. Sing praises to the Lord, praise our God with harps. He fills the sky with clouds and sends rain to the earth and makes grass grow on the hills. He gives food to cattle and to the little birds that call he is not impressed with the strength of a horse or with human might. The Lord is pleased with those who respect him with those who trust His love. Jerusalem praise the Lord, Jerusalem praise your God. He makes your city gates strong and blesses your children inside. He brings peace to your country and fills you with the finest grain. He gives a command to the earth and it quickly obeys Him. He spreads the snow like wool and scatters the frost like ashes. He throws down hail like rocks. No one can stand the cold he sends then he gets is a command and it melts. He sends the breezes and the waters flow he gave his word to Jacob is laws and demands to Israel. He didn’t do this for any other nation. They don’t know his laws, praise the Lord. Steve Webb 5:15In Psalm 148, all of creation is called upon to praise God, every creature in all the universe of this song commentator G. Campbell, Morgan wrote, what a wonderful song this is, look over it again. and note the fact that there is no reference in it from first to last to the mercy or pity or compassion of God. But that’s because there is no reference to evil in any form. Hallelujah indeed. and beloved, lest you think that this is only an enthusiastic cry based on emotion, thank again, Revelation 511 through 13 says it will indeed happen. In Revelation five, the apostle John wrote, then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne, the living creatures and the elders, and the number of them was 10,000 times 10,000, and 1000s of 1000s, saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb who was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom, and strength, and honor and glory and blessing. and every creature which is in heaven, and on earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, I heard saying, blessing and honor and glory and power be to Him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb forever and ever. Steve Webb 6:34Psalms chapter 148. Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord from the skies. Praise him high above the earth. Praise Him, all you angels. Praise Him all you armies of heaven. Praise Him Sun and Moon, praise him all you shining stars, praise him, highest heavens and you waters above the sky. Let them praise the Lord because they were created by His Command. He put them in place forever and ever. He made a law that will never change. Praise the Lord from the earth, you large sea animals and all the oceans, lightning and hail, snow and mist and stormy winds that obey Him. Mountains, and all hills, fruit trees, and all cedars wild animals at all cattle, crawling animals and birds, kings of the earth and all nations, princes at all rulers of the earth. Young men and women, old people and children. Praise the Lord because He alone is great. He is more wonderful than heaven and earth. God has given his people a king, he should be praised by all who belong to him. He should be praised by the Israelites, the people closest to his heart, praise the Lord. Steve Webb 7:44Beloved, Psalm 146 praises God for His trustworthiness and oh how I agree with that. I have discovered this to be so very true in my own lifetime. So many times he’s demonstrated that he is always they’re always able, always loving, and always true. and Psalm 147 praises God for the way he cares for us. and for his power over creation itself. There is nothing that he cannot do. and Psalm 148 calls for all of creation to praise the Lord. and there will come a day when that will indeed happen. Beloved, the older I get, the more I realized that he is worthy of praise. I love him more today than the day I received Him as my Savior over 50 years ago. and when you think about it, that makes sense. I love my wife, the lovely lady Leanne more than the day I married her. How could that be? Well, because we have gone through so many things together. and I know we’re better now than I did then. She’s never left my side. She puts up with my idiosyncrasies, my faults, my moods, my rough edges, and on and on and on. She loves me despite my oh so many faults, and God knows me even better than LeeAnn’s does. and yet, he loves me. and just as I still discover new things about my wife, I discover new things about God. Though he never changes. He reveals new things to me about himself. The depth of our relationship continues to grow deeper as I walk with him. Yes, the Lord is indeed worthy of praise. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Steve Webb 10:27Hallelujah indeed. How have you found God to be worthy your praise? Let me know. Send to Boostagram or call the Lifespring family hotline or go to the comments page or write an email. I’ll tell you how to do that at the end of the show. Tomorrow we’ll be poetry Thursday, and our reading will be Song of Solomon, chapters five and six. Steve Webb 10:49John Train is today’s executive producer John came in with his monthly $50 donation. Thank you, John. God bless you. Beloved, if the Lifespring! That means these episodes aren’t related to current events, but to the timeless truths of God. So if someone listens next year or five years from now, or 20, they’ll hear the good news. But there are costs associated with keeping the website online. Would you help me pray about it? Would you ask the Lord what he would have you do and then go here Jingle 11:43Lifespringmedia.com/support Steve Webb 11:46I’ll Thank you, those who hear the episodes in the future will thank you, and I believe that God will bless you. Steve Webb 12:01And now in medical news, or something like that, here’s another anecdotal story that shows I’m not alone in their shoulder pain after laparoscopic surgery category. This note came in from Lifespring Berean Brother Phil. He said here’s my shoulder story. I had my gallbladder removed. and after the operation, it felt like they had dropped me off the operating table onto my shoulder agony. No position helped. Yes, that does sound familiar brother Phil. Phil says I asked what has caused this. and now here’s where the medical staff had brother Phil’s hospital far excelled the staff at my hospital, he said, I was told it’s referred pain from co2 inflation of my stomach. They remove as much co2 as they can, but some remains. I researched it. and it seems that some nerves also map to other places. and I assume that in my case, stomach nerves or something associated with the gallbladder uses my shoulder nerve. So pain in the shoulder, right shoulder also means pain in an internal organ. I wonder if all internal organs shared nerves that we mentally map to other parts of our body. My neighbor has to have his gallbladder removed and was grateful for this knowledge. and he’s just signed it, Phil. Well, Brother Phil, thank you for that known, yes, you are confirming my research for sure. I’m sorry, you had to have your gallbladder removed. and I do hope you’re doing okay. One of my sisters in law also had hers removed many years ago. and as far as I know, she’s just doing fine without hers. Yesterday was the first day since my surgery that I haven’t had any shoulder pain at all. So I’m thankful that that little adventure is behind me. and as long as we’re in the health corner of the shell, today, I’m having a little follow up surgery procedure done on for my cataract surgery that I had a few weeks ago. I’m having a little laser surgery done on that eye to clean up a bit of lens flare caused by a remnant of the lens that was removed, I think and it should just take a few minutes show so it shouldn’t really be a big deal. and this, by the way, will be the third time that I’ve had laser surgery on that I the first time was LASIK surgery about 20 years ago. The second time was when my retina tour in a sort of spot welded it to keep further damage from happening to the retina. and then now this little cleanup job. So this laser surgery is sort of getting to be old hat Steve Webb 14:29Prayer requests praises. Well, there’s nothing new today from the Lifespring family but praise the Lord as I said my soldier pain, my soldier pain, my shoulder pain. I used to say shoulder for soldier when I was a little kid I think I would call my shoulder my soldier. Well, that goes back a few years anyway, my shoulder pain seems to be gone. and a prayer request that my laser procedure takes care of the annoying lens flare in my left eye would be good as well. So let’s pray. Our Heavenly Father, we offer you our enthusiastic and heartfelt praise now and we look forward to the time that we join our voices with all of creation around your throne, rejoicing in your presence. Hallelujah. and Father, I thank you and I praise you that the pain in my shoulder is in the past. I praise you to Father for Liane who’s taken such good care of me while I’ve been recovering from the surgery. and I pray that You would bless her for all that she does to be the wife that I need. She is a gift father, I again, just ask that you bless her. and I pray now that today’s laser surgery would be successful, and that no new complications would happen. I deeply thank you, Lord for the Lifespring family. and I pray that where there are needs you would meet them according to your perfect will. I pray this in Jesus name. Amen. Well, beloved, we have only three more times to pray together here on the show. It’s good to pray with and for our brothers and sisters, and our next time will be this coming Sunday. It’s interesting to note that the ruins of Ahasuerus’ palace in which the events of this book took place have been unearthed by archaeologists, as the events of this book take place, Ahasuerus’ is the largest empire, the Persian empire the world had ever seen up to that point, spanning modern Turkey, Iraq, Iran, Pakistan, Jordan, Lebanon, Israel and parts of Egypt, Sudan, Libya, and Arabia. So yeah, it was big. As the book takes place, Ezra had returned to Jerusalem, and 30 years before the temple had been rebuilt. 40 years later, under a hazard awareness, his successor or desert sees the first Nehemiah would return to Jerusalem to rebuild the walls. Steve Webb 1:43Esther chapter one. The following events happened in the days of a heavy Waris, I’m referring to that A has you heiress who used to rule over 127 provinces, extending all the way from India to Ethiopia. In those days as Kenya has you era sat on his royal throne and Susa the Citadel. In the third year of his reign, he provided a banquet for all of his officials and his servants. The army of Persia and Media was present, as well as the nobles and the officials of the provinces. He displayed the riches of His royal glory in the splendor of His majestic greatness for a lengthy period of time. 180 days to be exact. When those days were completed, the king then provided a seven day banquet for all the people who were present in Susa, the Citadel for those of highest standing to the most lowly. It was held in the court located in the garden of the Royal Palace. The furnishings included white linen, and blue curtains hung by cords of the finest linen, and purple wool on silver rings, alabaster columns, gold and silver couches displayed on a floor made of valuable stones of alabaster, mother of pearl and mineral stone. drinks were served in Golden containers, all of which differed from one another. Royal wine was available in abundance at the Kings expense. There were no restrictions on the drinking for the king had instructed all his supervisors that they should do is every one so desired. Queen Vashti also gave a banquet for the women in Kenya has you Waris, his royal palace on the seventh day is King has you Aris was feeling the effects of the wine he ordered me human because the heart Bona big fo a bag the Z Thor and carcass the seven Unix who attended him to bring Queen Vashti into the king’s presence wearing her royal high turban. He wanted to show the people and the officials her beauty for she was very attractive. But Queen Vashti refused to come at the king’s bidding conveyed through the Unix. Then the king became extremely angry and his rage consumed him. The king then inquired of the Wiseman who were dissenters of the times for it was the royal custom to confer with all those who were proficient in laws and legalities. Those who were closest to him were car Sheena sheath are at Mesa Tarshish me res Martina and memudahkan these men with the seven officials of Persia and Media who saw the king on a regular basis and had the most prominent offices in the kingdom. The king asked by law what should be done to Queen Vashti in light of the fact that she is not obey the instructions of King a has you Eros conveyed through the Unix mum you can then reply to the king and the officials. The rung of Queen Vashti is not against the king alone but against all the officials and all the people who are throughout all the provinces of Kenya has you whereas, for the matter concerning the queen will spread to all the women leading them to treat their husbands with contempt, saying when King has you Eros gave orders to bring Queen Vashti into His presence she would not come and this very day the noble ladies of Persia in media who have heard the matter concerning the queen will respond And in the same way to all the royal officials, and there will be more than enough contempt and anger. If the king is so inclined, let a royal edict go forth from him, and let it be written in the laws of Persia and Media that cannot be repealed that Vashti may not come into the presence of King has you, Eris, and let the King convey her royalty to another who was more deserving than she and let the king’s decision that he will enact be disseminated throughout all his kingdom vast though it is, then all the women will give honor to their husbands from the most prominent to the lowly. The matter seemed appropriate to the king and the officials. So the king acted on the advice of mucus and he sent letters throughout all the royal provinces to each province according to its own script, and to each people according to its own language that every man should be ruling his family and should be speaking the language of his own people. Steve Webb 5:54Esther chapter two. After these things when the wrath of King has us subsided, he remembered Vash tie what she had done, and what had been decreed against her. Then the king servants who attended him said, Let beautiful young virgins be sought for the king, and let the King appoint officers in all the provinces of his kingdom, that they may gather all the beautiful young virgins to Sham the Citadel into the women’s quarters under the custody of Haggai the Kings unic custodian of the women, and let beauty preparations be given them. Then let the young woman who pleases the king be queen instead of Vashti this thing please the king and he did so. In Shu Shan, the Citadel there was a certain Jew whose name was Mordecai the son of Jair the son of shimmy AI the son of Kish, a Benjamites. Kish had been carried away from Jerusalem with the captives who had been captured with Jack Enya, king of Judah, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away. and Mordecai had brought up a dasa that is estar, his uncle’s daughter, for she had neither father nor mother, the young woman was lovely and beautiful. When her father and mother died, Mordecai took her as his own daughter. So it was when the king’s command and decree were heard. and when many young women were gathered at Shu Shan, the Citadel under the custody of Haggai, that Esther also was taken to the king’s palace into the care of Haggai, the custodian of the women. Now the young woman pleased him and she obtained his favor, so he readily gave beauty preparations to her besides her allowance. Then seven choice maid servants were provided for her from the king’s palace, and he moved her and her maid servants to the best place in the house of the women. Esther had not revealed her people or family for Mordecai had charged her not to reveal it. and every day Mordecai paste in front of the court of the women’s quarters to learn investors, welfare and what was happening to her. Each young woman’s turn came to go into King a has us after she had completed 12 months preparation. According to the regulations for the women. For the US were the days of their preparation apportioned six months with oil of Morocco, and six months with perfumes and preparations for beautifying women Thus prepared, each young woman went to the king, and she was given whatever she desired to take with her from the women’s quarters to the king’s palace. In the evening she went and in the morning, she returned to the second house of the women to the custody of che ash gas, the king’s unit who kept the concubines, she would not go into the king again unless the king delighted in her in called for her by name. Now, when the turn came for Esther, the daughter of Abba Hale, the uncle of Mordecai, who had taken her as his daughter to go into the king, she requested nothing but what Haggai the Kings unit, the custodian of the women advised and Esther obtain favor in the sight of all who saw her. So Esther was taken to King Ahaz you Eros into his royal palace in the 10th month, which is the month of tea Beth in the seventh year of his reign. The king loved Esther more than all the other women and she obtained grace and favor in his sight more than all the virgins, so he set the royal crown upon her head and made her Queen instead of Vashti. Then the king made a great feast, the Feast of Esther for all his officials and servants, and he proclaimed a holiday in the provinces and gave gifts according to the generosity of a king. When virgins were gathered together a second time, Mordecai sat within the Kings gate. Now Esther had not revealed her family and her people just as Mordecai had charged her for Esther obeyed the command of Mordecai is when she was brought up by him. In those days while Mordecai sat within the king’s gate, to have the king’s Unix big fun and Tirosh doorkeepers became furious in sought to lay hands on King as you heiress. So the matter became known to Mordecai who told Queen Esther and Esther informed the king and mortar guys name and women inquiry was made into the matter. It was confirmed and both were hanged on a gallows. and it was written in the book of the Chronicles in the presence of the king. Steve Webb 10:10Esther chapter three. After these things King a has you Eros promoted Haman, the son of hammer data, the aggregate and advanced him and set his seat above all the princes who were with him. and all the king’s servants who were within the Kings gate bowed and paid homage to Haman, for so the king had commanded concerning him. But Mordecai would not bow or pay homage. Then the king servants who were within the king’s gate said to Mordecai, why do you transgress the king’s command? Now it happened when they spoke to him daily and he would not listen to them that they told it to Haman to see whether Mordecai his words would stand for Mordecai had told them that he was a Jew. When Haman saw that Mordecai did not bow or pay him homage, Haman was filled with wrath, but he disdained to lay hands on Mordecai alone, for they had told him of the people of Mordecai. Instead, Haman sought to destroy all the Jews who were throughout the whole kingdom have a has you Eris, the people of Mordecai in the first month, which is the month of nice and in the 12th year of Kinga has you Waris, they cast pure that is the lot before Haman to determine the day and the month until it fell on the 12th month, which is the month of ADR. Then Haman said to King has you Eris, there is a certain people scattered and dispersed among the people in all the provinces of your kingdom. Their laws are different from all other peoples and they do not keep the king’s laws. Therefore, it is not fitting for the King to let them remain. If it pleases the king, let a decree be written that they be destroyed, and I will pay 10,000 talents of silver into the hands of those who do the work to bring it into the king’s treasuries. So the king took his signet ring from his hand and gave it to Haman, the son of hammer data, the aggregate the enemy of the Jews, and the king said to Haman, the money in the people are given to you to do with them as seems good to you. Then the king scribes were called on the 13th day of the first month, and a decree was written according to all that Haman had commanded to the kings satraps to the governor’s who were over each province, to the officials of all the people to every province according to its script, and to every people in their language. In the name of King it has us it was written and sealed with the king’s signet ring. and the letters were sent by couriers into all the king’s provinces, to destroy, to kill and to annihilate all the Jews, both young and old, little children and women in one day on the 13th day of the 12th month, which is the month of a dar and to plunder their possessions. A copy of the document was to be issued as law in every province being published for all people, that they should be ready for that day. The couriers went out, hastened by the kings command, and the decree was proclaimed in Shu Shan, the Citadel. So the king and Haman sat down to drink, but the city of Shu Shan was perplexed. Steve Webb 13:08Esther chapter four. When Mordecai learned all that had happened, he tore his clothes and put on sackcloth and ashes and went out into the midst of the city. He cried out with a loud and bitter cry, he went as far as the front of the king’s gate, for no one might enter the king’s gate close with sackcloth, and in every province where the Kings commanded decree arrived, there was great morning among the Jews with fasting, weeping and wailing, and many lay in sackcloth and ashes. So Esther’s maids in Unix came and told her and the Queen was deeply distressed. Then she sent garments to clothe Mordecai and take his sackcloth away from him, but he would not accept them. Then Esther called haystack one of the kings Unix whom he had appointed to attend her. and she gave him a command concerning Mordecai to learn what and why this was so hate that went out to Mordecai in the city square that was in front of the kings gate, and Mordecai told him all that had happened to him and the sum of money that Haman had promised to pay into the Kings treasuries to destroy the Jews. He also gave him a copy of the written decree for their destruction, which was given at Shu Shan, that he might show it to Esther and explain it to her, and that he might command her to go into the king to make supplication to him and plead before him for her people. So hey, Thach returned and told Esther the words of Mordecai. Then Esther spoke to hate back and gave him a command for Mordecai. All the king’s servants and the people of the kings provinces know that any man or woman who goes into the inner court to the king, who has not been called, he has but one law put all to death, except the one to whom the king holds out the golden scepter that he may live, yet I myself have not been called to go into the king these 30 days. So they told Mordecai Esther’s words, and Mordecai told I’m to answer Esther, do not think in your heart that you will escape in the king’s palace any more than all the other Jews. For if you remain completely silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this? Then Esther told him to reply to Mordecai, go gather all the Jews who are present in Shu Shan and fast for me, neither eat nor drink for three days, night or day, my maids and I will fast likewise. and so I will go to the king which is against the law, and if I perish, I perish. So Mordecai went his way and did according to all that Esther commanded him. Steve Webb 15:44Esther chapter five. On the third day Esther put on her royal robes, she stood in the courtyard of the king’s palace facing the king’s throne room. The king was sitting on the royal throne inside the palace facing the entrance. When the king saw Queen Esther standing in the entrance, she won his favor. So the king held out the golden scepter that was in his hand to Esther. Esther went up to him and touched the top of the scepter. Then the king asked her, What is traveling you Queen Esther? What would you like? Even if it is up to half of the kingdom it will be granted to you. So Esther answered, If it pleases you, Your Majesty come today with Haman to a dinner I’ve prepared for you. The king replied, bring him in right away and do whatever Esther asks. So the king and Haman came to the dinner that Esther had prepared while they were drinking wine. The king asked Esther, what is your request that will be granted to you? What would you like? Even if it is up to half of the kingdom? It will be granted. Esther answered my request. What would I like? Your Majesty come with him into a dinner I will prepare for you and tomorrow I will answer you, Your Majesty. If I have found favor with you, Your Majesty, and if it pleases you, Your Majesty, may you then grant my request and do what I would like. When Haman left that day, he was happy and feeling good. But when Haman saw Mordecai at the king’s gate, neither getting up nor trembling in His presence. Haman was furious with Mordecai, however, Heyman controlled himself, he went home and sent for his friends and his wife Zeresh. Then Haman began to relate in detail to them how very rich he was, the many sons he had, and all about how the king promoted him to a position over the officials in the Kings advisors. Haman went on to say, what’s more Queen Esther allowed no one except me to come with a king to the dinner she had prepared. and again tomorrow I am her invited guest together with the king. Yet all this is worth nothing to me. Every time I see Mordecai, the Jews sitting at the king’s gate, then his wife Zeresh and all his friends said to him, have a pole setup 75 feet high, and in the morning asked the king to have Mordekaiser dead body hung on it. Then go with the king to the dinner in good spirits. Haman liked the idea, so he had the pole set up. Steve Webb 18:10Well, how’s that for a cliffhanger? What will happen to Mordecai Tune in next week to find out well today in chapter one out of pride has he Where is held to different banquets. First, there was a six month long banquet for all of his officials and servants. He was the ruler of the largest empire in the world and he wanted to show off and by the way, in all likelihood this lavish celebration was paid for from the taxes he collected. The word tells us that it was his own expense. But where do you suppose he got the money in the first place? Yeah, taxes. Go figure. The second banquet was for all the residents of the capital city Shu Shan this celebration was much more modest, of course lasting only seven days. Drink was abundant at both banquets, but at the second it was not compulsory. Well, in chapter one, we were introduced briefly with a has us his wife, Queen Vashti. She also had a banquet for the women in the palace. and on the seventh day of the second banquet, a hazard awareness was drunk, and he ordered that Vashti should come to him at his banquet because he wanted to display her beauty. and commentators believe that it’s implied that the king wanted her to appear without her clothes on, which is the reason she refused to go. Well, in his drunken condition, the king became enraged and he asked his advisers what he should do in response to this insubordination. They said he should remove her as Queen because she was a bad example to all the other women in the kingdom. Find a replacement they said, or wives everywhere will disrespect their husbands. In the New Testament, in Ephesians, chapter five Paul says that wives should respect their husbands. Well, I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say that I agree with Paul. Respect is the greatest gift a wife can give to her house. Bend, but a husband cannot demand respect. Well, that’s not entirely true, though is that I mean, a husband can demand respect and many husbands have cruel ways to do that. But respect given as a result of mistreatment is not true respect, is it? Let’s look at what exactly Paul said there in Ephesians. It’s in verse 33. of chapter five, he said, each one of you is to love his wife as himself, and the wife is to respect her husband. So that brings a bit more perspective into the equation, doesn’t it? and then earlier in the chapter in verse 25, Paul made it even more clear, he said, Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself for her. Well, that really drives at home, a husband that loves his wife, just as Christ loved the church will, in almost every case, be rewarded with respect and love from his wife. If a has you, whereas had loved Vash Thai with this kind of love to begin with, he would have never made such a request of her and he would have had her respect. But of course, if that had happened, then we wouldn’t have had the rest of the story with Esther would we don’t miss next week’s conclusion?
