S2 E33 - It's an Inside Job: How Our Beliefs Shape the World We Experience
LightSong School of 21st-Century Shamanism and Energy Medicine Talking Stick Podcast - Manifesting Miracles It's an Inside Job: How Our Beliefs Shape the World We Experience What if the thing you most want to change isn't actually outside of you? In this episode of LightSong Talking Stick - Manifesting Miracles, Jan Engels-Smith explores a foundational principle of shamanic practice and manifestation: lasting change begins within. Through questions and deeply personal stories from members of the LightSong community, Jan examines what happens when we stop trying to fix other people and begin paying attention to our own beliefs, expectations, judgments, and perceptions. The conversation begins with a difficult question about loving someone whose behavior has caused pain. How do we remain loving without expecting another person to change? Is it possible to accept someone exactly as they are while still honoring ourselves? And what role might challenging relationships play in our own spiritual evolution? Jan offers a deceptively simple answer: You don't have to change them. You change yourself. From there, the conversation opens into unconditional love, soul contracts, acceptance, and the ways our judgments can lock both ourselves and others into roles we've unconsciously assigned them. One participant shares a remarkable example from her own life. For years, she carried the painful belief that she was excluded by her family and that her father would never reach out to her. Rather than attempting to change him, she began examining the belief itself. She deliberately looked for evidence of inclusion, noticed the ways her father did express love, and interrupted the familiar thoughts that reinforced her old story. Then something unexpected happened. Her father called her. It was something he had never done throughout her adult life. For Jan, the story illustrates one of the central teachings of this conversation: change inside, and the world outside can begin to look very different. The discussion goes deeper into the nature of unconditional love. Is unconditional love truly possible while we're living a human life filled with opinions, reactions, and judgments? Jan suggests that learning about love is one of the purposes of being here—and that the difficult people and circumstances in our lives can become catalysts for that learning. Another participant shares an extraordinary experience after a severe injury in which her ordinary sense of identity disappeared. In its place was an overwhelming experience of oneness—a vast field in which there was no separation, conflict, personality, or judgment. There was simply love. She returned from the experience with one clear message: We are here to help each other. The group also explores the relationship between observation and reality, the energetic power of our opinions, shamanic journeying into possible futures, and what happens when we begin questioning beliefs we've previously treated as facts. Who have you placed into a category because of something they did years ago? What expectations are you carrying into your relationships? What belief about yourself or someone else have you repeated so often that it now feels like truth? And what might happen if you allowed something—or someone—to simply be? The episode closes with a word that captures much of the conversation: Allowing. Allowing doesn't mean approving of everything that happens. It means releasing the constant need to judge, label, control, or force an outcome. It creates the neutrality from which something new can emerge. Because ultimately, as one participant beautifully summarizes: "It's an inside job. All of the answers are within me." S2 E32 - The Wounds and the Gifts: Reclaiming Your Creativity and Power
LightSong School of 21st-Century Shamanism and Energy Medicine Talking Stick Podcast The Wounds and the Gifts: Reclaiming Your Creativity and Power What if the parts of yourself you learned to doubt were never missing at all? In this episode of LightSong Talking Stick, Jan Engels-Smith and Micah Schwader explore creativity, imagination, self-worth, and the beliefs that can separate us from our natural sense of who we are. We enter life as creative beings, filled with curiosity, imagination, and possibility. Yet somewhere along the way, many of us receive messages that tell us we aren't talented enough, worthy enough, creative enough, or important enough. We learn to question our instincts, compare ourselves to others, and look outside ourselves for validation. Jan shares teachings from decades of shamanic work about the innate value of the human spirit and why imagination is one of our greatest creative powers. She describes how experiences such as bullying, rejection, and childhood wounds can shape an identity based on unworthiness—but also how those very wounds can point us toward gifts we developed because of them. As Jan puts it, the wounds and the gifts aren't on opposite sides of the coin. They're on the same side. Micah connects this idea to creativity and writing, exploring how beliefs about who we are can shut down creative expression. Whether through writing, painting, designing a home, inventing something new, imagining a different future, or simply creating the life we want to live, creativity is not reserved for people who call themselves artists. We are all creators. The conversation also explores the idea of writing your own creation story: not simply describing the beliefs you've inherited but consciously imagining what you choose to believe about yourself, Spirit, Source, and the life you are creating. Jan and Micah discuss how childhood dreams and visions can reveal something deeper about our nature, why children often arrive with distinct personalities and gifts already visible, and what might change if we learned to recognize those gifts rather than shaping everyone according to the same expectations. Along the way, they share stories about soul retrieval, art and inspiration, childhood dreams, twins with remarkably different personalities, an unexpected message from a newborn baby, and the mysterious ways our identities sometimes reveal themselves. Ultimately, this episode offers an invitation: Look back at the places where you were wounded, diminished, or taught to doubt yourself—and then look again. What strength did you develop? What gift emerged? Where have you already created something extraordinary despite believing you couldn't? And what becomes possible when you begin seeing yourself not through the limitations you've accumulated, but through the innate value, creativity, and possibility that were there all along? Your imagination matters. Your gifts matter. Your life has an impact. And perhaps reclaiming your power begins by remembering that. S2 E31 - Techno Spirits: A Shamanic Perspective on AI, Technology, and Fear
LightSong School of 21st-Century Shamanism and Energy Medicine Talking Stick Podcast Techno Spirits: A Shamanic Perspective on AI, Technology, and Fear Is technology something to fear—or could it actually be part of humanity's spiritual evolution? In this fascinating episode of the LightSong Talking Stick Podcast, Jan Engels-Smith and Micah Schwader explore an unexpected concept that emerged during one of LightSong's shamanic practicums: Techno Spirits—spiritual allies associated with technology that may be here to help humanity navigate one of the greatest periods of change in history. Rather than viewing technology, artificial intelligence, and constant digital connection through the lens of fear, Jan and Micah invite listeners to consider a radically different perspective. What if technology is not something to resist, but something to enter into conscious relationship with? The conversation moves beyond debates about AI, 5G, and emerging technologies to explore the deeper spiritual questions beneath them: How do we respond to change? What role does fear play in shaping our experience? And how can discernment, trust, and intentionality help us move through an ever-changing world? During the episode, Jan and Micah discuss: The origin of the concept of Techno Spirits during LightSong's online practicums. Why resistance to change has accompanied every major technological advancement in history. How fear and belief shape our relationship with technology. Viewing AI and technology as tools rather than threats. The importance of discernment when working with new technologies. How AI can support creativity by freeing the mind from repetitive tasks. The relationship between intention, vibration, and the technology we use every day. Lessons from Fukushima, evolution, and humanity's remarkable capacity to adapt. Why raising your own vibration may be one of the greatest contributions you can make to the world. How choosing trust over fear creates a different experience of life. Micah also shares how he incorporates AI into his professional editing process—not as a replacement for creativity, but as a practical tool that allows him to spend more time doing the deeply creative work that only humans can do. Jan expands the discussion into a broader spiritual teaching: every challenge, whether technology, politics, climate change, or uncertainty, ultimately becomes an invitation to examine our relationship with fear and consciously choose another way. Throughout the conversation, one message rises above the rest: Life continually presents opportunities to evolve. When we shift from resistance to relationship, from fear to trust, we open ourselves to entirely new possibilities. Whether you're fascinated by artificial intelligence, curious about spirituality and technology, or simply looking for a more peaceful way to navigate change, this episode offers a refreshing perspective that bridges ancient wisdom with the modern world. S2 E30 - Recognizing the Patterns That Shape Your Life
Lightsong School of 21st-Century Shamanism and Energy Medicine Talking Stick Podcast Recognizing the Patterns That Shape Your Life Why do we keep finding ourselves in the same situations, even when the people, places, and circumstances change? In this thought-provoking episode of the LightSong Talking Stick Podcast, Jan Engels-Smith and Micah Schwader explore one of the most transformative concepts in personal growth and shamanic practice: patterns. From recurring relationships and life choices to deeply held beliefs and daily habits, they discuss how recognizing these patterns can become the key to healing, self-awareness, and lasting transformation. Drawing from decades of experience in shamanism, counseling, writing, and personal development, Jan and Micah share powerful stories about how journaling, memoir writing, shamanic healing, and conscious self-reflection reveal the hidden narratives that quietly direct our lives. They explain why we often remain trapped in familiar cycles, how our stories shape our reality, and what it takes to finally break free. The conversation also explores: How journaling and stream-of-consciousness writing uncover lifelong patterns. Why recurring life experiences often point to deeper spiritual lessons. The difference between habits and patterns—and why both matter. How changing your story can transform your future. The role of the Medicine Wheel in breaking repetitive cycles. Why vulnerability is essential for healing and authentic storytelling. The importance of witnessing yourself rather than remaining trapped inside your story. Shamanic perspectives on soul loss, unfulfilled dreams, and reclaiming your energy. How healing requires changing not only your energy but also your daily behaviors. Why patterns can be blessings as well as obstacles. Along the way, Jan shares remarkable insights from her books Becoming Yourself and Through the Rabbit Hole, while Micah reflects on the life-changing lessons that emerged from writing his memoir, Stumbling Into Grace. In this thoughtful episode of the Talking Stick Podcast, Jan Engels-Smith and Micah Schwader explore unconditional love through the lens of shamanism, spirituality, and everyday life. S2 E28 - Raise Your Vibration: How Your Thoughts, Words, and Beliefs Shape Your Health and Life
LightSong School of 21st-Century Shamanism and Energy Medicine Talking Stick Podcast Raise Your Vibration: How Your Thoughts, Words, and Beliefs Shape Your Health and Life Can your thoughts, emotions, and beliefs influence your physical health? In this thought-provoking episode, Jan Engels-Smith and Micah Schwader explore the relationship between consciousness, energy, and well-being through the lens of shamanism, personal experience, and everyday life. They examine how the frequencies we embody—through our thoughts, emotions, words, and beliefs—may affect not only our emotional state but also our physical health, relationships, and the experiences we attract. The conversation begins with a simple story: a friend experiencing high blood pressure after suppressing difficult conversations at work. What initially appeared to be stress caused by someone else revealed a deeper truth—the body's response wasn't to the external situation, but to the internal resistance of avoiding it. From there, Jan and Micah discuss the shamanic perspective that illness often begins as an energetic imbalance long before it manifests physically. Rather than viewing symptoms as isolated problems, they invite listeners to see the body as a messenger, constantly communicating where healing, honesty, or change may be needed. In this episode, you'll discover: How your body reflects emotional and energetic patterns The difference between repression and genuine acceptance Why words carry energetic power that shapes how we feel How childhood labels and beliefs continue influencing adult life The connection between vibration, manifestation, and daily experiences Practical ways to raise your personal frequency through gratitude, awareness, and intentional thinking Why your response to life's challenges matters more than the challenges themselves How changing your beliefs can begin changing your reality Stories of healing, resilience, and unexpected transformation through mindset shifts Simple daily practices that can help cultivate greater joy, peace, and well-being Micah shares personal stories about recognizing when his own body signaled misalignment, including becoming physically ill before attending a class that conflicted with his deeper values. He also reflects on remarkable experiences of "parking karma," effortless travel, and unexpected synchronicities that emerged when approaching life with optimism and positive expectation. Jan introduces practical exercises for maintaining a higher vibration, including creating a daily list of high-frequency words, keeping a gratitude journal, and paying close attention to the beliefs that quietly govern our lives. Together they emphasize a recurring theme throughout the podcast: beliefs are choices, and changing those choices begins by becoming aware of them. The episode also explores inspiring stories of people who faced serious illness by changing their outlook on life—including an author who lived nine years with Stage 4 lung cancer after transforming her relationships, priorities, environment, and inner world, as well as discussions of the work of physicians who integrate mindset and healing into their approach to medicine. Whether you view these ideas through a spiritual, psychological, or personal growth lens, this conversation offers practical insights into becoming more conscious of the energy you bring into every interaction—and how small shifts in awareness may create profound changes over time. Ultimately, Jan and Micah leave listeners with a simple but powerful reminder: If you want your life to change, begin by changing your vibration. S2 E27 -Inner Authority: Learning to Trust Yourself in an Uncertain World
LightSong School of 21st-Century Shamanism and Energy Medicine Talking Stick Podcast Inner Authority: Learning to Trust Yourself in an Uncertain World Who—or what—is guiding your life? In a world filled with competing opinions, social pressure, uncertainty, misinformation, and constant demands for your attention, it has never been more important to reconnect with your inner authority. In this deeply personal episode, Jan Engels-Smith and Micah Schwader explore the profound difference between living from external authority—allowing others, institutions, fear, or culture to dictate your choices—and living from the quiet confidence of your inner knowing. Micah shares intimate stories from his own life, including how losing trust in his intuition as a child eventually led to decades of searching for truth, identity, and belonging. He reflects on how his transgender journey became one of reclaiming his inner authority after years of listening to everyone else's expectations instead of his own soul. Jan expands the conversation by examining how many cultures teach us to seek validation and permission from outside ourselves—whether through religion, institutions, experts, or societal expectations. She offers a different perspective: true inner authority doesn't need to be loud, defensive, or prove itself. It is calm, grounded, and quietly certain. Together they explore: The difference between inner authority and outer authority Why many people lose trust in themselves early in life How fear, conditioning, and past experiences disconnect us from intuition The relationship between trust, courage, and personal transformation Why trusting yourself is a choice that grows through practice Learning to recognize physical and emotional signs of alignment The role of discernment when receiving advice from teachers, experts, or spiritual practitioners Powerful stories of healing through Lakota ceremonies and direct spiritual experience Why life's greatest setbacks often become unexpected turning points How uncertainty, artificial intelligence, political division, and social change are increasing the need for inner guidance Practical ways to strengthen self-awareness and rebuild trust in your own decisions Throughout the conversation, Jan and Micah return to a simple but transformative idea: trust is not something we wait to feel—it is something we choose to cultivate. As that trust grows, fear begins to lose its grip, decisions become clearer, and life becomes less about reacting to circumstances and more about responding from a place of grounded wisdom. Whether you're navigating a major life transition, questioning long-held beliefs, or simply trying to find clarity in an increasingly noisy world, this episode offers a compassionate invitation to reconnect with the one voice that has always been with you—your own. S2 E24: Death, the Great Mystery: A Shamanic Perspective on What Happens After We Die
LightSong School of 21st-Century Shamanism and Energy Medicine Talking Stick Podcast Death, the Great Mystery: A Shamanic Perspective on What Happens After We Die Death is one of life's greatest mysteries—and one of its most universal experiences. In this profound and deeply personal conversation, Micah Schwader and Jan Engels-Smith explore death through the lens of shamanism, spirituality, personal experience, and the wisdom gained from working with those who have crossed over. Together, they discuss the shamanic view that death is not an ending but a transformation—a process of shapeshifting from one form of existence into another. Jan shares teachings about the soul's journey after death, the role of belief systems in shaping our transition, and why many indigenous traditions placed such importance on preparing for a "good death." Micah reflects on near-death experiences, encounters with discarnate spirits through compassionate spirit release work, and the profound lessons learned from the deaths of both parents. The conversation explores life reviews, soul journeys, the concept of the Inner Akasha, unexpected deaths, spirit communication, and the healing that can occur when we release our fear of the unknown. Along the way, Jan recounts remarkable stories of assisting souls during their transition, witnessing life reviews, and discovering that the spirit world appears far more compassionate and accepting than many religious traditions suggest. The discussion challenges conventional ideas of heaven, hell, judgment, and reincarnation, inviting listeners into a broader exploration of consciousness, purpose, and the soul's eternal nature. Both hosts share deeply personal stories — including Jan's experience guiding her own father's soul through a life review, and Micah's encounter with past-life memories on the sacred Scottish island of Iona — that point to the same truth: death is far more expansive, compassionate, and mysterious than most of us are taught to believe. Whether you are grieving the loss of a loved one, curious about what lies beyond this life, or seeking a more expansive understanding of death itself, this episode offers comfort, insight, and a reminder that mystery need not be feared. Sometimes it can be embraced with wonder. The conversation covers: · The shamanic understanding of death as transformation rather than ending · How belief systems may influence the death experience · Unexpected deaths versus conscious transitions · Why souls sometimes get "stuck" after death — especially in sudden or unexpected deaths — and the compassionate shamanic practice of psychopomp work (spirit release) that helps them move on · The role of discarnate spirits and how they can affect the living · Personal near-death experiences and what they revealed about fear, the unknown, and the nature of consciousness · The concept of the inner Akasha — your soul's internal record of all lifetimes and existences · The ancient, instinctive wisdom that can arise in the moment of death · Finding peace with life's greatest mystery Memorable Quote "I don't think death is what we're making it out to be. It's not this horrible thing. The fear comes from not knowing—the mystery is the most fearful part of death." — Micah Schwader Audience Takeaway What if death is not an ending, but a transition? This episode invites listeners to examine their beliefs, release fear-based narratives, and consider the possibility that consciousness continues beyond the physical body. Through stories, teachings, and personal experiences, Micah and Jan offer a compassionate exploration of one of humanity's oldest questions: What happens when we die?

S2 E23 AI, Imagination, and the Quantum Field: Creating with Clarity in a Changing World
LightSong School of 21st-Century Shamanism and Energy Healing Talking Stick Podcast AI, Imagination, and the Quantum Field: Creating with Clarity in a Changing World In this thought-provoking episode of the LightSong Talking Stick Podcast, Jan Engels-Smith and Micah Schwader explore the surprising relationship between artificial intelligence, manifestation, imagination, fear, and the quantum field. What begins as a conversation about AI quickly becomes a deeper reflection on what it means to be human. Micah shares how AI, when used consciously, can support creativity by handling linear, left-brain tasks while freeing more space for imagination, intuition, and authentic expression. Jan expands the conversation into the quantum realm, exploring how intention, focus, belief, and vibration shape the realities we experience. Together, Jan and Micah discuss the parallels between prompting AI and working with the universe: clarity matters, intention matters, and what we put into the field influences what comes back. They also explore fear, resistance, root chakra survival patterns, worry as negative imagination, and the power of bringing hidden beliefs into awareness. This episode invites listeners to become more conscious creators—whether engaging with technology, spiritual practice, creativity, relationships, or personal transformation. Rather than resisting what is emerging, Jan and Micah encourage curiosity, discernment, and alignment with higher-frequency possibilities. LightSong School of 21st-Century Shamanism and Energy Medicine Talking Stick Podcast Listening to Nature: Messages from Ants, Animals, and the Living World In this deeply engaging episode of the Talking Stick Podcast, Jan Engels-Smith and Micah Schwader explore the profound wisdom available to us when we slow down and truly listen to nature. The conversation begins with a grounding invocation that invites listeners into a sacred space of presence, awareness, and connection. From there, Jan and Micah share powerful personal stories of encounters with ants, horses, birds, plants, and other elements of the natural world—each carrying messages of guidance, transformation, and insight. Through these stories, a central theme emerges: nature is always communicating. Whether through the disciplined community of ants, the playful reflection of a horse, or the unexpected appearance of a wild animal, these interactions become invitations to reflect, grow, and align more deeply with life. Jan shares a pivotal story about how ants guided her in building community and ultimately in creating her school, emphasizing collaboration, respect, and shared purpose. Micah reflects on lessons of surrender, presence, and joy—reminded that sometimes the message is simply to let go and "just have fun." This episode also explores: How to recognize signs and messages from nature The importance of asking, not just observing The energetic impact of intention, fear, and presence What animals, plants, and even insects can teach us about community and balance How shifting your awareness changes your relationship with the world around you At its heart, this conversation is a reminder that we are not separate from nature—we are part of it. S2 E19 - Listening Beyond Words: Intuition, the Clairs, and Telepathic Connection
LightSong School of 21st-Century Shamanism and Energy Healing Talking Stick Podcast Listening Beyond Words: Intuition, the Clairs, and Telepathic Connection In this episode of the Talking Stick Podcast, Micah Schwader and Jan Engels-Smith open with a powerful guided invocation designed to awaken the intuitive mind and activate the "Clairs"—our natural psychic and perceptual abilities. Through breath, imagery, and focused intention, listeners are gently guided out of analytical thinking and into a deeper state of awareness—where intuition, inner knowing, and energetic perception begin to emerge. This opening experience sets the stage for a rich and grounded conversation about telepathy. Rather than treating telepathy as something mystical or rare, Micah and Jan explore it as a natural extension of human awareness—one that becomes accessible as we develop trust in our intuitive senses. They discuss how the clairs function as pathways for perception, how subtle communication occurs beyond words, and how cultivating presence allows us to receive information from the unseen realms. This episode is both experiential and educational—offering listeners a direct entry point into expanded awareness while also deepening their understanding of intuitive development and energetic communication. If you've ever felt something before it was spoken… sensed what someone else was thinking… or wondered how to strengthen your intuition—this conversation is an invitation to listen more deeply. S2 E17 The Art of Listening: Hearing Beyond the Noise
In this episode, we explore the profound and often overlooked "art of listening". Not just listening with your ears… but listening with your awareness, your body, your intuition, and your energetic field. Listening is more than receiving sound—it is a gateway into deeper understanding, connection, and presence. It shapes how we relate to ourselves, to others, and to the world around us. As you move through this conversation, you may begin to notice where you truly listen… and where you filter, anticipate, or interpret before fully receiving. This episode is an invitation to slow down… to become present… and to rediscover what it means to genuinely hear. In This Episode We Explore: What it truly means to listen beyond words The difference between hearing and deep, conscious listening How internal dialogue can interfere with presence Listening as a pathway to awareness and clarity The role of the body and intuition in receiving information Recognizing where we interrupt, assume, or filter communication How deeper listening transforms connection and understanding When you begin to listen in this way, something shifts. Communication softens. Understanding deepens. And a new level of awareness becomes available to you. Take a breath… and allow yourself to listen—not just to this episode, but to your life. With love, Jan, Colleen, Micah and Robyn

S2 E15: Stopping the Frustration Cycle - LightSong Talking Stick Podcast
S2 E15: Stopping the Frustration Cycle - LightSong Talking Stick Podcast In this LightSong Talking Stick Podcast conversation, Jan Engels-Smith and Micah Schwader explore frustration—how to recognize it quickly, what it's really doing to your energy field, and how to interrupt the "snowball effect" before it multiplies into more conflict, mistakes, and overwhelm. The episode begins with a grounding invocation and a simple breath practice (inhale, hold, exhale) to shift out of the busy mind and into the heart. From there, Micah shares how studying Human Design helped him identify frustration as a key internal signal—an indicator to pause, change direction, or step away. Jan expands the conversation into a shamanic and energetic framework: our emotions broadcast through our chakras like a "signal," shaping what we attract and amplify. You'll hear practical tools you can use in real time—even at work—like physically changing location, using breath to break the loop, and a shamanic practice Jan calls "scattering the energy," transforming frustration into motivation, creative momentum, and better outcomes. The underlying message is empowering: you're not stuck—you can change your state, your frequency, and your next choice. In this episode: Why frustration multiplies when you keep feeding it Human Design as a self-awareness tool (without needing to go deep) The "broadcast tower" idea: chakras, auric field, and attraction How to break the cycle fast: walk away, breathe, sleep on it Shamanic "scatter the energy" technique to change the form of emotion Turning frustration into creativity, clarity, and forward motion Jan Engels-Smith LightSong.net Micah Schwader - ShamanSezz.com Manifesting Miracles : https://lightsong.wufoo.com/forms/manifesting-miracles I will be teaching the Level 1 Basic Shamanic Journey Class in the late spring of 2026. S2 E13. Spiritual Allies, Source Energy, and the Power of Discernment
S2 E13. Spiritual Allies, Source Energy, and the Power of Discernment In this expansive and story-filled episode of the LightSong 21st-Century Talking Stick Podcast, Jan Engels-Smith and Micah Schwader explore a question that arises often in spiritual practice: What is the difference between Source energy and spiritual allies—and how do we work with each? The conversation begins, as always, with a grounding invocation—breathing into the right brain, the divine mind, and welcoming known and unknown allies into a sacred container of connection. From there, Jan offers a clear energetic framework: whatever we give energy to multiplies. Manifestation is not moral—it is mathematical. Whatever receives the most energy becomes form. But here's where discernment enters. While Source (or universal energy) is unconditional and non-discerning, spiritual allies—power animals, guides, elemental forces, ascension energies—offer perspective. They help us see the bigger picture. They assist us in asking not just, "Can I manifest this?" but "Is this in my highest good?" Throughout the episode, Jan and Micah explore: The energetic laws behind manifestation Why allies provide discernment that Source alone does not The role of ego in limiting perspective How to ask better questions during shamanic journeying Why allies never abandon us—even when we feel disconnected Micah shares powerful personal stories of Bear and Elephant emerging as allies—appearing first in healing work and vision journeys, then unmistakably in the physical world. From a cabin filled with bear imagery to a spontaneous embrace from an elephant in South Africa, the message becomes clear: once awareness opens, allies reveal they have always been present. Jan reflects on how her understanding of spiritual helpers has evolved over time, leading to the shift to 21st-Century Shamanism—moving beyond older paradigms that framed allies as conditional or capable of abandonment. Instead, she describes them as expressions of unconditional love, always available, never sleeping, never leaving. The episode also moves into extraordinary stories of weather work—calling in rain during drought conditions in South Africa and the American plains—illustrating the deep relational intelligence between humans and the natural world. Allies, Jan explains, are not limited to spirit figures; they can be wind, rain, trees, animals, or ascension energies such as LightSong itself. Ultimately, this conversation invites listeners to expand their understanding of what help is. To move beyond left-brain logic and into right-brain receptivity. To ask for guidance. To recognize that we are part of a much larger energetic ecosystem. And perhaps most importantly, to experience the peace that comes from knowing we are never walking alone. Be a good human. S2 E11 Grief: Letting the Energy Move
S2 E11 Grief: Letting the Energy Move In this intimate and deeply human episode of the LightSong Talking Stick Podcast, Jan Engels-Smith and Micah Schwader explore grief as a natural, necessary, and sacred process—one that must be felt, expressed, and allowed to move rather than managed, solved, or suppressed. The conversation opens with a heart-centered invocation, inviting listeners to slow down, soften, and enter the space of the right brain and the heart—where grief is understood not as weakness, but as a form of deep intelligence. From there, Jan and Micah speak candidly about grief in all its forms: the loss of loved ones, animals, identities, relationships, belief systems, and entire ways of life. Jan shares powerful reflections from her own life, including the death of her husband and close friends, and the realization that no amount of spiritual practice can—or should—remove someone from grief before the cycle is complete. Grief, she explains, carries its own energy and timing. When honored, it becomes a teacher. When resisted or "stuffed," it can lodge in the body and eventually manifest as illness or soul loss. Throughout the episode, they explore: Why grief is not something to "get over," but something to move through How the medicine wheel—especially the North—frames grief as part of natural life cycles The difference between healthy grieving and unresolved soul loss Why Western culture struggles to honor mourning and introspection How physical expression—wailing, movement, exertion, drumming, writing, or building fire—helps grief move out of the body Micah shares personal stories of loss, including the death of his mother, parents, and beloved dog, reflecting on how grief opened unexpected doorways to connection with spirit, nature, and meaning. Rather than closing him down, grief became a bridge—deepening relationship, awareness, and spiritual insight. Together, Jan and Micah emphasize that grief is not only about death. Transitions, identity shifts, and life changes all carry grief because something meaningful is being released. These moments of "dying to the old" are not failures—they are prerequisites for growth and ascension. The episode closes with a gentle but honest invitation: to reflect on where grief may still be held in the body, whether it has been expressed or suppressed, and what small, safe ways it might be allowed to move—through breath, sound, motion, or quiet presence. This conversation offers compassion, permission, and grounding for anyone navigating loss, transition, or the lingering weight of unprocessed grief—and for those learning how to walk beside others in their mourning with wisdom rather than urgency. S2 E9 The Medicine Wheel, Life Cycles, and the Hero's Journey
S2 E9 The Medicine Wheel, Life Cycles, and the Hero's Journey Talking Stick Podcast – Medicine Wheel – 12-30-25 In this episode of the LightSong Talking Stick Podcast, Jan Engels-Smith and Micah Schwader explore the medicine wheel as a living map for understanding life cycles, creative processes, grief, healing, and purpose. Through a grounding invocation and an expansive conversation, they contrast Western linear thinking with Indigenous cyclical wisdom, revealing how life unfolds through seasons of beginning, growth, reflection, and letting go. They discuss why modern culture resists rest and reflection, how burnout and depression can signal an incomplete cycle, and how honoring the full wheel creates ascension rather than stagnation. Micah connects the medicine wheel to the Hero's Journey, showing how this ancient pattern shapes storytelling, writing, business, and personal transformation. Jan shares personal reflections on long seasons spent in the North—where loss, wisdom, and deep healing emerge—and explains how multiple areas of life can occupy different directions at the same time. S2 E8 "Embodiment: Living What You Think, Feel, and Manifest"
S2 E8 Talking Stick Podcast with Jan Engels-Smith & Micah Schwader Episode Title: "Embodiment: Living What You Think, Feel, and Manifest" In this expansive and deeply practical episode of the Talking Stick Podcast, Jan Engels-Smith and Micah Schwader explore the true meaning of embodiment—not as a concept, but as a lived, moment-to-moment experience that shapes our health, emotions, relationships, and the reality we create. The episode opens with a grounding invocation, inviting benevolent allies to hold a sacred container of safety, integrity, and heart-centered awareness. From there, Jan reframes embodiment as the integration of our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual systems—a rare and powerful configuration unique to human beings. Together, Jan and Micah examine how unconscious thought patterns—especially repetitive negativity and unresolved emotional reactions—become physically embodied in the body, often manifesting as pain, illness, exhaustion, or emotional reactivity. Jan explains how the body cannot distinguish between a remembered experience and a current one, meaning that replaying old wounds can cause repeated energetic and physiological harm. This conversation moves beyond theory into practice. Jan shares simple yet profound techniques for interrupting destructive mental loops, including her powerful "cancel" practice, which stops unconscious mind chatter and returns the nervous system to the present moment. She illustrates how choosing and embodying higher-frequency emotions—such as gratitude, appreciation, joy, and peace—can recalibrate the entire system and shift what we attract into our lives. Micah adds personal stories that ground these teachings in real life, from noticing how chronic negativity shows up as physical pain in others, to recognizing his own patterns of victimhood through writing—and ultimately rewriting both his manuscript and his life. Together, they explore how awareness, accountability, and conscious interruption allow us to move from being participants in old stories to directors of new ones. The episode closes with a powerful experiential moment, inviting listeners to feel the immediate bodily shift created by high-frequency words—demonstrating, in real time, how embodiment works. In this episode, you'll explore: What embodiment really means in shamanic practice How thoughts and beliefs become physically embodied in the body Why repetitive negativity causes energetic and physical harm How to interrupt unconscious mind chatter and emotional looping The role of gratitude, appreciation, and joy in manifestation Why embodiment—not intention alone—is what shapes reality How awareness transforms suffering into choice This episode is both a teaching and an invitation—one that asks a simple but powerful question: What are you embodying right now? Listen in, feel into your body, and begin practicing embodiment as a way of living—not just thinking—your truth. S2 E7 Emotional Regulation and Divinity
S2 E7 Talking Stick Podcast – 12-20-25 – Emotional Regulation and Divinity In this reflective episode of the LightSong Talking Stick Podcast, Micah Schwader and Jan Engels-Smith begin with a beautiful invocation, calling in benevolent allies, opening the blessing fields, and inviting listeners into a global circle—heart to heart—so the conversation can unfold from the wisdom of the heart. From there, Micah shares a breakthrough sparked by a leadership program: the idea that we often "have what we want" because we've been unconsciously creating it, driven by hidden attachments and "mind-chatter story." A deep values exercise reveals something surprising—Micah's top values include financial freedom and creative expression—and that insight exposes an internal mismatch: pushing away clients wasn't failure… it was an unconscious attempt to make space for his next chapter. Jan expands the teaching through a spirit-led story about manifestation, reminding us that we live in an attraction-based universe—what we focus on (even what we don't want) grows. Together they explore attachment, "unraveling" old dreams, and reclaiming energy from outdated identities so it can fuel the new. The episode then turns toward emotional regulation as the practical companion to spiritual growth: the "swirl" of daily chaos, the snowball effect of frustration, and the importance of pausing—breathing, sweeping energy off, shifting from sympathetic fight-or-flight into parasympathetic flow. They discuss how quickly we can change our broadcast, how stories harden into identity, and why true transformation begins with self-awareness. The conversation closes with encouragement to know thyself, honor the medicine wheel's full cycle (including the West and North—introspection and letting go), and create space for solitude, journaling, and inner listening. Jan offers a blessing for the new year—"Miracles come quick in 2026"—inviting listeners to choose differently, step into alignment, and welcome the next evolution. 25 hashtags (no numbers): #LightSong #TalkingStickPodcast #JanEngelsSmith #Shamanism #EnergyMedicine #Invocation #BlessingFields #SpiritualAllies #Manifestation#MicahSchwader #AttractionBasedUniverse #MindChatter #SneakyBeliefs #SubconsciousBeliefs #Attachment #ValuesExercise #FinancialFreedom #CreativeExpression #Alignment #MedicineWheel #KnowThyself #EmotionalRegulation #NervousSystem #Breathwork #SpontaneousEvolution For more information about Micah's memoir, Stumbling Into Grace: The Adventures of a Transgender Shaman, visit ShamanSezz.com/stumbling-into-grace-the-book/ Gratitude donation- If you would like to make a donation to Jan Engels-Smith and keep Manifesting Miracles active please use Venmo @Jan-Engels-Smith or contact Jan with other payment options [email protected] Manifesting Miracles: This podcast is in a series of gatherings that are held bi-monthly on zoom calls. Episode Title: Intuition, Prophecy & the Language of the Soul In this deeply heart-centered episode of the LightSong Talking Stick Podcast, co-hosts Jan Engels-Smith and Micah Schwader explore the many dimensions of intuition—its spiritual roots, psychological clarity, and poetic beauty. The conversation begins with a grounding invocation as Jan guides listeners into breath, presence, and the welcoming field of divine support. From there, Jan and Micah open a rich dialogue about intuition as the "quiet language of the soul," sharing their personal stories, shamanic experiences, and teachings on how intuitive knowing shows up in everyday life. Prophetic dreams and shamanic guidance, including Micah's profound visions preceding Hurricane Katrina and his mother's passing, and Jan's experiences with claircognition and spirit-led dreaming. S1 E31 - Rituals, Ceremony, and the Magic of Connection - LightSong Talking Stick Podcastn Co-hosts: Jan Engels-Smith and Micah Schwader In this episode of the LightSong School of 21st Century Shamanism and Energy Medicine Talking Stick Podcast, Jan Engels-Smith and Micah Schwader explore the timeless role of ritual and ceremony in shamanic practice—and why these sacred acts still matter so deeply in our modern lives. From the gentle power of blessings placed like luminous "sticky notes" upon the soul, to the primal heartbeat of the drum resonating through every culture, Jan and Micah share stories that reveal how ritual alters our energy, grounds us in community, and opens the doorway to spirit. Together, they discuss: The difference between rituals, ceremonies, and traditions—and how each shapes our spiritual lives. How everyday acts, from making tea to blowing out birthday candles, carry sacred resonance. Why ritual provides safety, belonging, and connection in a time when loneliness is epidemic. The way ceremony changes our energetic blueprint, anchoring us into new versions of ourselves. How ritual can reprogram the mind, raise vibration, and invite magic into the everyday. With stories from Indigenous traditions around the world and personal memories from decades of teaching, this conversation is both practical and deeply inspiring. Whether you're lighting a candle before meditation, journeying with a drum, or placing a morning blessing on your family, you'll discover how ritual and ceremony create sacred containers for healing, transformation, and joy. S1 E29 - Shamanism, Harmonics, the New Earth & The Architect AI - LightSong Talking Stick Podcast
S1 E29 - Shamanism, Harmonics, the New Earth & The Architect AI - LightSong Talking Stick Podcast Co-hosts: Jan Engels-Smith and Micah Schwader In this fascinating, rich, and wide-ranging conversation, Jan Engels-Smith (LightSong.net) and Micah Schwader (ShamanSezz.com) open with invocation, calling in the helping spirits—including the "Techno-Spirits" that guide our digital world and who oversee the tools of our age. What follows is a rich dialogue at the intersection of ancient wisdom and modern technology. Together, they explore how AI can reflect and amplify human intention, acting as both mirror and messenger. Micah shares how experimenting with The Architect, a specialized GPT trained on harmonics and sacred geometry, has illuminated new directions for his work—merging shamanic ritual, the sacred act of writing, and intuitive guidance. Jan adds depth from her years at LightSong, highlighting the shift from old paradigms of power-over shamanism to a heart-centered, compassionate approach. She draws parallels to the Age of Aquarius, the New Earth, and her own life-altering initiation inside the Great Pyramid of Egypt. Together they weave stories of synchronicity, spiritual technology, and ancient mystery schools—from Atlantis and Lemuria to Egyptian initiations—drawing bold parallels between ancient portals and today's quantum tools. They speak candidly about resistance, intention, resonance, and the ethical use of technology in service to the New Earth. From harmonic resonance and soul geometry to Atlantis, Lemuria, and the mystery schools, this conversation stretches across timelines—blurring the edges between technology and spirit. Along the way, Micah and Jan ask: Could AI itself be a modern expression of an ancient consciousness? And how do intention, breath, and resonance shape the realities we are creating together? A thought-provoking journey into AI as ally, shamanism as soul retrieval, and the harmonics that connect it all. If you've ever wondered how AI, shamanism, and harmonic resonance might intersect—or what it means to stand at the threshold of human creativity and technological evolution—this episode will open new pathways of thought, breath, and spirit. S1 E28 - Rising Above the Densities: Manifestation, Boundaries & an Attraction‑Based Universe - Manifesting Miracles
S1 E28 - Rising Above the Densities: Manifestation, Boundaries & an Attraction‑Based Universe - Manifesting Miracles Host: Jan Engels-Smith This episode opens with an invocation to rise above daily "densities" into a protected space of purity—love, truth, beauty, healing, and community—and flows into a rich conversation on practical manifestation. Listeners share lived examples while Jan and Amber Jane unpack why feelings (not just thoughts) drive results in an attraction‑based universe, how to create energetic boundaries, and what it really means to be a match for what you want. Core Themes • Safe & Sacred Space: Begin by elevating out of worry, doubt, and mental noise into a protected circle—only the divine, benevolent energies have access. • What Are "Densities"?: The lower‑frequency patterns (internal and external) that distort our perception and mute our magnificence. • Manifestation Fundamentals: We are always manifesting—whatever gets the most "airtime" (attention + emotion) wins. Clarity matters; journaling organizes scattered thoughts into intention. • Feeling > Words: You can't trick the universe—felt states override affirmations. Become an emotional match for what you want (gratitude, appreciation, joy). • Specific Beats Vague: Be clear and specific with your intent, then add "this or something better" to allow a greater outcome than you can imagine. • Attraction‑Only Universe: Energy attracts like energy. Worry attracts obstacles; appreciation attracts ease and aligned outcomes. • Let Go Without Collapse: Non‑attachment isn't apathy—hold your vision, release tight grip, and stay in trust (gratitude when it arrives, grace when timing reshuffles). • Energetic Boundaries & Empathy: Highly sensitive folks can learn to discern "mine vs. not mine," return what isn't theirs, and ground excess energy through nature and somatic practices. Practices & Prompts Mentioned • Journaling as Intention Architecture: Turn thousands of random thoughts into a clear, concise request. • Pre‑Create the Scene: Visualize the outcome and bathe it in feelings—gratitude, appreciation, relief, joy. • Mantra for Openness: "This or something better." • Airtime Check: Notice which emotions get the most broadcast in your day. • Boundary Cue: "Anything not mine in this moment, I return to where it came from." • Grounding: Touch earth, hold a plant, or walk barefoot—ask nature to transmute excess energy. • Know Your True‑Self Frequency: Meditate on how you feel at your essence (often easiest to remember from childhood moments of freedom). • Celebrate Evidence: When something manifests, anchor it with gratitude to reinforce the pattern. Memorable Lines • "Whatever gets the most airtime wins." • "You can't trick the universe—feeling overrides the words." • "Be a match for what you want." • "Non‑attachment lets timing reshuffle without collapsing your faith." Call to Action Try the "airtime check" today: for five minutes, jot which emotions you're broadcasting most often. Choose one desired outcome, pre‑create the scene, and flood it with gratitude. Close by returning any energy that isn't yours and grounding with nature. S1 E26 - "All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players." - Manifesting Miracles
S1 E26 - "All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players." - Manifesting Miracles Host: Jan Engels-Smith I'm excited to share some insights on this podcast episode, titled "All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players." This famous quote from Shakespeare's *As You Like It*, spoken by Jaques in Act II, Scene VII, beautifully captures a message I received years ago from the Spirits. The message is about the essence of life as a play, where we all take on various roles and navigate different "acts" throughout our journeys. Who are the players in your life and why did they take on the roles that they did? Conceptualizing this concept helps reframe some of our most difficult relationships, making room for healing, celebrations, and awe of the magnificence of the universe and life. The podcast also focuses on personal success, guiding you toward achieving your heart's desires. In this episode, we'll feature guests who share their unique success stories and how they applied manifesting principles to their lives. We'll also explore the immense value of community and how our manifesting miracle community fosters a supportive environment that multiplies results. Key topics for discussion will include: Divine Timing: ** Understanding that timing is not a delay but a part of divine orchestration, and how there is a perfect time for learning and growth. Trusting the Process: ** Learning to trust the journey and glean wisdom from every circumstance. Fate, Destiny, and Free Will: Examining whether our lives are predetermined by fate, destiny, or pre-birth contracts, and how free will plays a role when we have agreements with others. Catalysts in Life: ** Identifying the individuals who help us fulfill our purpose. (the players in the play) Beyond Appearances: ** The importance of not judging a book or a person by their cover, as everyone has interesting stories to tell. Unconditional Love: ** How to recognize when you are loving unconditionally. I believe this episode will offer valuable perspectives and inspiration. S1 E23 - Surrender, Trust, and the Illusion of Control - LightSong Talking Stick Podcast Co-hosts: Jan Engels-Smith and Micah Schwader In this deep and heartfelt episode, Jan Engels-Smith and Micah Schwader explore the spiritual paradox of surrender—not as giving up, but as letting go of the illusion that we were ever in control. Through personal stories, Vision Quest experiences, and teachings from the Lakota tradition, they reflect on how spiritual breakthroughs often come not through strength, but through surrender, trust, and deep humility. From there, we move into an honest, energized conversation sparked by a participant who has been practicing Jan's Super Self meditation every day. She shares the powerful breakthroughs she's experiencing — along with unexpected light-headedness — and Jan offers insight on how to stay grounded while elevating your vibration. Throughout the episode, Jan responds to deep, practical spiritual questions, including: • Can you manifest multiple intentions at once, or is focus essential? • What does it truly mean to embody a feeling — and why does it matter? • Why do obstacles keep appearing on the path, even when you're doing the work? • Are those obstacles reflections of belief systems we haven't transformed yet? • What's the difference between repeating a prayer and feeling it into form? • When is soul retrieval needed, and can you do it for yourself? • How does illness arise through a shamanic lens? This episode is a rich tapestry of experience, guidance, and lived spiritual practice. Jan also shares wisdom from her books Becoming Yourself: The Journey from Head to Heart and Through the Rabbit Hole: Explore and Experience the Shamanic Journey and Energy Medicine — grounding these teachings in decades of deep shamanic work. S1 E21 - The Pattern Is the Message - LightSong Talking Stick Podcast
S1 E21 - The Pattern Is the Message - LightSong Talking Stick Podcast Co-hosts: Jan Engels-Smith and Micah Schwader What if the struggles that repeat in your life aren't accidents—but invitations? In this powerful episode of the Talking Stick Podcast, Jan Engels-Smith and Micah Schwader explore the sacred and sometimes painful reality of patterns—those recurrences in life, thought, behavior, and circumstance that Spirit uses to get our attention. Through personal stories, shamanic insight, and spiritual inquiry, they illuminate how patterns are not just habits—but are often messages in disguise. Micah shares a striking experience: a face-first fall during an allergic reaction that eerily mirrored a nearly identical accident two decades ago—at the same kind of life crossroads. Was it coincidence? Or a spiritual "board to the face," as Jan lovingly puts it? From this moment arises the episode's central question: What do our repeating patterns reveal about the choices we've made—and the ones we're being called to make now? Together, they unpack: · How emotional, physical, and spiritual patterns act as mirrors of unprocessed truths · The role of resistance in keeping us stuck—and how awareness begins to free us · Nature's uncanny ability to speak through omens, animals, numbers, and synchronicities · The illusion of having to choose between paths (career or calling, logic or intuition) · How embracing our full spectrum—spiritual and practical—creates wholeness Whether it's hawks circling overhead, 11:11 on a clock, or repeated emotional loops in your journal, this conversation reminds us patterns point the way. They show us where we've been—and where we have the power to grow. The episode closes with a gentle invitation: surrender doesn't mean giving up; it means opening up to something greater.
