Living as a Disciple

From a young age, God gave Beverly a love for teaching and discipling young children. She shares the story of founding Medicine Lake Academy (now Heritage Christian Academy), and the opportunities God has given her throughout her life to understand and guide little kids into a relationship with Jesus.

Brady had just finished two years at the Free Lutheran Bible College and was thinking he wanted a break. He and some friends then hopped a plane to Hawaii with plans to hang out for a year and see what happened. What happened is that God opened their hearts and minds to what serving Him could really look like. In this episode, Brady shares how he went from adamantly not wanting to be a pastor to being moved by God to start a church on Waikiki Beach that is now 8 years old and reaching a wide range of people with the gospel as well as growing new disciples with hearts to reach others.

Tom and Carrie were your typical, church going, middle-class family living a normal life, but God challenged them through some difficult situations that caused them to decide what they really believed. Jessie Kaplan is a regional manager for Minnesota Teen Challenge and a married family man, but it wasn’t an easy journey to get here. In this episode Jessie shares his testimony of how God brought him through some hard and difficult times, including 4 prison sentences before he came to his senses and found real meaning and purpose in his true identity in Jesus Christ.

Micah and Randy talk to Rev. Lloyd Quanbeck about his experience with small group discipleship, usually in groups of 3 or 4. Quanbeck notes that discipleship is often mutual, and how it has been an enriching part of his own ministry as a congregational pastor.

The Great Commission was given to the disciples and to the Church as a clear description of what we are to be doing until Jesus returns. However, it’s fair to ask, are we still doing it? What should it look like to live as a disciple of Jesus Christ, living out the Great Commission in 2024? In this episode, we will be reviewing the truths we have touched on over the last several episodes with the goal being to flesh out what it should look like to seek daily to fulfill this calling.

As we come to the end of our brief look at the Great Commission, we find one of the most comforting and encouraging statements in all of Scripture. “And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” In this episode, we will be discussing all that this brief statement means, and why we can find courage even in the most difficult of situations, as we seek daily to live as a disciple of Jesus. 

In part one we looked at God’s gracious work of salvation through baptism, including His calling, convicting, and working faith within us spiritually dead sinners, forgiving us our sins, adopting us as His children, promising us eternal life, and giving us the gift of His indwelling Holy Spirit, all by His Grace. And while it is all of His work, there is a part that we play in becoming and living as His disciples. In this episode we will be looking at our part in becoming and living as a disciple of Jesus Christ and what that looks like practically and over a lifetime.
